Adam Sheer, a 15 year veteran of the Richmond, Va. police force,  recently went on vacation to an island in southern Thailand with fellow officers.  On November 3rd he was involved in a serious accident on a motor bike .  He was critically injured, suffering  three  broken vertebrae,  three cracked ribs,  head trauma,  and spinal cord damage.  He was transported to a local hospital by speedboat.  He spent approximately a week at this small, island hospital, with little or no care.  He was then medevaced 400 miles to a hospital in Bangkok.  Adam had back surgery in Bangkok and had 12 screws inserted.  There were also lung and bladder infections and periods of a low grade fever.  There was further spinal cord damage discovered in Bangkok, but the hope was that this damage would self heal.

Adam spent approximately three  weeks in the hospital in Bangkok.   He did receive minimal rehab, with some excruciating  pain accompanied by fainting episodes.  On  Friday,  December 1,  Adam,  his sister,  Aimee,  and a nurse flew first class from Bangkok to Washington, Dulles Airport with a stop in Dubai, and then by limo to Richmond..  It was a grueling  24 hour trip.  He is now in Richmond,  at Medical College of Virginia,  waiting for evaluation results and a rehab plan.

Adam and his family are incredibly fortunate to have so many wonderful people make  donations, send  their thoughts and prayers,   and offer to help.    We cannot thank everyone enough.  We will provide updates on this caringbridge page.  Please feel free to send any thoughts to Adam on this site.
