I was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer de novo in October 2018. It had already metastasized extensively (too many lesions to count) in my liver as well as 2 lesions on my spine and one in my pelvis. The pain from the liver is what took me to the ER and led to my diagnosis. However, I had been having back issues for awhile that would not allow me to stand or walk long. My primary docs pretty much dismissed it or mentioned spinal stenosis but never sent me for scans. I did have my liver enzymes tested 5 months before my diagnosis and they were not elevated at that time. They were 5 months later when diagnosed.
