CaringBridge Supports and Honors Caregivers with “Ask A Caregiver” Campaign

Global social network nonprofit creates new campaign to support caregivers for National Family Caregivers Month

Eagan, Minn. (November 1, 2018) – Every day, more than 43 million Americans care for a sick loved one. The work, while often rewarding and the ultimate labor of love, can be tough, emotional, confusing, underappreciated and lonely. This November, for National Family Caregivers Month, CaringBridge – where hundreds of thousands of people going through health journeys tell their stories – has launched a platform to help family caregivers build community and get answers through their “Ask a Caregiver” campaign.

The “Ask A Caregiver” campaign is a new feature on CaringBridge where family caregivers are encouraged to submit questions about their caregiving journeys. Expert family caregivers answer these questions and provide tips, tricks and suggestions for how to address their concerns. All family caregivers are then invited to comment, engage in conversation and build each other up through the process sharing their own stories and offering support.

“There is so much healing power in sharing stories with others,” CaringBridge CEO Liwanag Ojala said. “With this new campaign for caregivers to have dialogue about their experiences and uplift each other during these times that, while often rewarding, can also be very trying, we hope to give them some of that support and community that is proven to be so healing.”

November is National Family Caregivers Month, celebrating the millions of Americans who deliver an estimated $470 billion annually in unpaid care to their loved ones, a number that will only rise as subsequent generations attend to the needs of aging baby boomers.

“The one thing that everyone needs is someone or a group of people to not forget about you,” says Elizabeth Miller, founder of HappyHealthyCaregiver.com and one of the certified caregiving consultants who will be answering questions for the campaign. “I hope that by sharing some of my insights and interacting with the other family caregivers through the campaign, we can all find a little more strength and balance as we try to take care of ourselves and our loved ones.”

Just as CaringBridge created a community of support 21 years ago, the organization hopes that this new initiative will help family caregivers find answers, support and hope.
