Dearest Heidi, So glad you were able to do the turkey day. So sorry to hear about the shingles. I have had them before prior to the CML but have been warned they could pop out just at any time again. They are so painful. I hope you soon recover from them. I know there is so much you want to do but take it easy, be good and baby yourself. How's the hubby & kids? Fine I hope. Will email you privately soon.
Happy Holiday's to You and Yours

Hello Heidi,
You look great! I'm so happy you are feeling better every day - as they say, "day by day"! As you know, we celebrated Allan's 1st year post BMT a few weeks ago. Our newest news is that we met his donor last weekend!!! To be put on the national bone marrow registry, we expected a distant donor. We were surprised and very pleased that he is from Ottawa like us! It was a wonderful meeting, and we all became friends and plan to get together again soon. Actually, they are planning on coming to one of his concerts next week. There are a lot of great people out there! Take care.

So glad to "finally" hear from you. I have been concerned and was just going to post to ask if one of your children could maybe do the posting if you were not able. It's the not knowing that gets to me. So sorry to hear you are faced with such obstacles. Just remember, "there may come a time when you believe all is finished...that will only be the "beginning". I know this to be true because I've lived it. Keep the faith and you will find the inner strength to endure the test, trials and tribulations. I'm thinking of you in my prayers daily. Wishing you Godspeed....love, peace, hope & prayers, Pat

Hello Heidi,

You must be so happy to be able to go home for the day - it won't be long that you will be back home for good! Allan's mouth GVHD seems to have reached the worst point and now, after at least 2 months, is getting better. He was feeling otherwise good, and hungry, throughout this phase so it was difficult not to be able to eat what he wanted because of the pain. Keep us posted. Take care.

Hello Heidi,
I'm so glad to see a message from you! I'm sorry you are having a hard time with the GVHD - and I know it is hard!! Just remember that it will get better and keep thinking that, and don't get discouraged because it will take some time. Allan had severe skin reaction from head to toe, leaving his skin in bad shape, but it is better now. He was exhausted and had no energy and this too is coming back. Keep us posted on how you are doing - thinking of you a lot and hope your turning point on the road to recovery will be soon.

Heide,
Keep up the good work! Love to hear you've not had a problem with mouth sores. I didn't either, thankfully!
I'll never forget when my hair started falling out. When I took a shower, my hands would look like bear's paws, the drain clogged with hair, my pillow case covered with hair each morning.
So, i just had the rest of it shaved off. It was very liberating!
Continued prayers for your donor marrow to take charge!

Dear Heidi,

I'm so glad that everything went well. It's hard to imagine how all this works, and what they can do now with all the medical advances. It is so amazing. In a few weeks you will be functioning with someone else's bone marrow. It is so touching that so many people are on the bone marrow registry waiting to donate. I can't wait for the year to be over and to hopefully be able to thank the donor who gave to my son, Allan, who apparently is a young man around 20 years old or so, like Allan. I wish I could do the same, but because I had thyroid cancer 20 years ago, I cannot donate anything even blood. So I guess what I can do is reach out to those going through what I did and to what Allan is going through hopefully giving moral support and love. Take care. Suzanne XOXO

Heidi,
I hated the chemo, too. The Busulfan was tolerable, but the Cytoxan was brutal. I couldn't wait until I was through with it. Hope you are still able to get out of your room and walk some. Keep up the strength.

Dear Heidi, I just read your update, April 3rd, and don't worry about BMT day - it's just like a transfusion and you won't know the difference. I don't think there will be a 'scent'. The only time we were told and noticed that there was a scent was when it was a patient receiving his own stem cells - and it was not a bad smell, it was like 'corn'. Hard to believe, on April 7th, it will be 6 months since my son Allan's BMT! And he is doing fine. Good luck, and I will be thinking of you. Suzanne

Dear Heidi, I found your website through Julie Anna's site. I would like to wish you good luck with all you are going through. My son, Allan at 20 years old, was diagnosed with ALL in May 04. He had three chemo treatments over the summer, and a BMT in Oct. My daughter was not a match, so he was placed on the National Bone Marrow Registry and a full match was quickly found. We don't know who the donor is except that he is a 20 year old male. Six months later, Allan is doing extremely well - of course he experienced some side effects of the chemo, radiation,(but not that bad) then GVHD, but now is on the mend. He still needs lots of rest, but is able to things he likes; spending time with his wonderful girlfriend Caitlin, and music. He is a percussionist, working on his Bachelor of Music in performance. I'm glad I found your website and I will continue checking your progress. Take care

Dear Heidi
Thanks to Patrica, we have found your caringbridge site. The photograph of you and your girls is beautiful. Just know you are in our thoughts and prayers here in the UK. Rich has cml and has just started the BMS Phase 2 Trial for CP resistant due to a mutation in Germany as he could not wait for the UK centres to start their trials. This is a difficult journey for all of us, but know you have much support and people around the world wishing you well. Will look in on your site regularly. Keep strong. Best wishes
