Maddie, we had all of your Merkel cousins (except Matthew)to our house last weekend. You continue to be a part of family stories and everytime Dan and I see an eagle I do my little shout out to you - "Hi Maddie".

Just thinking about you today and thought I'd write something quick - You'll always be Maddie, Maddie Pooh Pooh Butt to me and your sister is most certainly Silly Lily Picadilly -

Hello Fall family,

Was thinking about you all today. Wondering how Lily is enjoying her new room. I know she just had a birthday recently as well. I suppose with all of this nice weather you will be able to things in Maddie's memory garden earlier than usual this year.

Hi Steve, Darla, Maddie and Lily,

It has been a long time since I have been out to the site. I do check it every couple of weeks. I really felt for you when I heard you had to help Zach pass peacefully. Knowing that Maddie was now caring for him up in Heaven I hope it helped a little with the grief. I just had to help my beloved Sadie kitty pass peacefully on June 15th, so I can empathize with how you felt. She was 19, and although she still wanted to stay, her body wasn't working with her. I had read in a book about a person not wanting to get another pet because losing them hurt too much, and their father said to them, the hurt you are feeling from the loss is the price of love - and I get that, because as much as it hurts, I would not give back the time spent with her to not feel the pain. All of the memories, all of the love and all that she taught me is worth every last tear. Her spirit is still here. I can't see her, but I feel her with me.

I wish you all well. I do think about you all and wonder how your life is, so I am glad to read the updates. What an amazing thing for you to have seen Maddie guarding over Lily when she was ill.

My friend and her 4 kids just visited me for the past couple of days from NE Wisconsin (to help me with Sadie's loss) Ages 12,9,4, and 2. I have some idea now of what living with a 2 yr old is like, so I am sure Lily is probably exploring and learning about everything, practicing vocal communication, and climbing around.
May you have many joys and laughter with her over the summer. Steve, I wish and your family well in your new business and Maddie, much love to you for being such a wonderful inspiration to so many and an attentive guardian angel for your family.

Hi Darla, Steve and Lily!
You can't imagine how thrilled I was to open your page Maddie and see that your Mom had up dated it! I was beginning to think it was the end of your caring bridge book! Darla I am SOOO HAPPY that you found that precious CD of all of Maddie's pictures! What a GIFT! I have a special photo album just for Maddie on my computer and I was very glad to be able to add to it tonight!
I still think of all of you so often..I just wish we would have gotten our visit in--I can't believe how fast time is going since we talked about it before LENT!I know I delayed it because my MS has been challenging and I have lost all but two care givers and that makes it very difficult. But I am still hoping that we might get a visit in sometime, I still haven't even been able to make it home for a visit with my sisters, so that tells you how crazy it has been around here! Too much to do and to few people to do it! But we are having a new woman join our community in mid-July which is exciting! I hope it all works out! Please keep all of us in your prayers and remember you are always in mine! I love you all so much and miss you a lot! I can't even begin to imagine how big Lily must be by now! I will need an up dated picture of her!
I too still watch for eagles and cardinals! We have a pair of cardinals that come to our feeder every day and I think of Maddie and we always have a special conversation...she always has something to tell me! She will forever be my special angel! Every week when I go to Dr. Miller I always think of Maddie and thank God for the day we met!
Have a wonderful summer! I promise to try and keep in touch more often...you are always in my heart! Take care and God bless!
With love and hugs +

So glad your Mother found the CD with all of your pictures. The front page picture is one of my favorites. Like your parents, I love being able to say "Hi Maddie" at every eagle sighting.

Still missing you Pooh Pooh Butt. You'll always be our litte peanut.

Hi Maddie -
It has been quite a while since we left a note but thought we should share how much you were in our thoughts while we babysat your little sister (11/12-11/14). Miss Lily stayed with us for two nights and we had some snow. Uncle Dan says there was an eagle sitting across the road from the house and Harley scared it away when they went out to plow/shovel. We also saw 2 eagles that Sunday as we traveled to St. Paul to go to Uncle Dan's work. I said hi to you as I always do when I see eagles.

Looks like you were keeping a close eye on Lily. We appreciated the help. Everyone who sees Lily and has seen your website pictures agrees she looks an awful lot like her big sister.

Love seeing the pictures - I check every week for updates. They still makes me smile with a tear in my eye.

Thanks for watching over all of us -

Love, Uncle Dan and Aunt Denise

Dear Darla and Steve,
What an inspiring little story. Although we can't often explain the things that happen in this life, it's nice to know that our loved ones are "always" with us. I think Maddie wanted this angel to be just like her and this was a definite sign for all to witness. God Bless her precious soul. XOXOXO

Hi,

I haven't written in a while, but I do check out the site every few weeks. I have been seeing more eagles than usual lately as well, especially up near the Chequamegon Forest. I enjoy hearing about the memories of Maddie, her garden, and Lily's latest adventures. Hope you are all doing well and enjoying this beautiful spring.

Dear Darla, Steve and Lily,
It was great to see my "little" Lily in person---FINALLY! Thanks so much for bringing her Darla---it was really the greatest pre-Christmas GIFT I could have ever received! But let me tell you, Darla, I was more than a little SHOCKED to see my picture with Lily on the CB page!
My days are flying by and because of this,I want to be one of the first to wish "Our Precious Angel" Madeline a very HAPPY 6TH BIRTHDAY! I know if I don't put it in print
while I have my computer open, Monday, Jan.11th will come and go and I will have missed her very special day! I can't even imagine how fabulous it must be to celebrate a birthday in HEAVEN! I can hardly wait to find out! But Maddie if I am ever going to find out, YOU better keep praying that I finally make it up there to be with you again! :-) Know that I will be celebrating with all of you again, as you let off all of those balloons and have cupcakes with all of the kids at Sunday school~~~!
Here's hoping you continue to make more and more great memories! Have a great weekend and a very happy Monday, January 11th, 2010!

Hi guys,
Well, I think the reason you're not seeing cardinals yet is that they're all around church. We had SEVEN at our birdfeeder at one time yesterday. They all seem to want to be up this way for some reason... :)

Our precious little Madeline. A year ago today we were at your funeral. I didn't want to go and say good bye to you, but when I got to church and you looked like a little angel and the beautiful music that the choir was singing (thank you Fr. Chris and Paula)was so beautiful--I thought, what a beautiful way to send our little angel to Heaven. Auntie Denise and Uncle Dennis speaking of all the things you taught us and all the love we received from you. Fr. Chris' sermon and service books he made in loving memory of you. All the people who came, the lives you touched. Your memorial service was so beautiful, no words to describe it. We love you Honey and will never forget our little Sunshine. Sister Jane, I do wish you could have been with us too.

Steve, Darla and Lily,
Nadia and I were thinking of you all so much today--especially this morning as we were missing Maddie's memorial service. While we couldn't be there physically, please know that our hearts and minds were with you as you observed Madeline's 1st ^Angelversary^. Nadia and I also released balloons for Maddie from home--since we couldn't be with you all to do so at church. We drove down the road to get out of the woods and parked and at 12:10, Nadia released them. Wish we could have been there with you today, but I'm sure Maddie understands that Nadia wasn't feeling good:-) Love you all........Laurie

Hi Darla, Steve and Miss Lily Ann,
I can't tell you how much I loved the pictures you posted yesterday of Lily on Maddie's bed taking in all the pictures of her "Big Sister" and just jabbering away at her---they are absolutely adorable! I especially treasure them because I was unable to make it to Maddie's wake or funeral, so this is my first glance at them too! You did a GREAT job, Darla and all extended helpers! What a labor of LOVE---and LOVED---is surely what Miss Madeline was/IS!
I just can't believe it has been 9 months since God took her home. She most definitely has NOT LEFT US! I am so happy you see and feel her presence so continually! It seems to me you have TWO very special little daughters, what a precious GIFT and BLESSING!
Darla, I am still hoping we can get in that visit before summer is over...the days are just flying by! I know our day will come...Maddie told me SHE is so anxious to "show-off" her baby-sister!
I also love Maddie's garden that seems to be thriving, although I am praying that she will help God open His faucets in heaven and pour down rain to water it and ALL of our parched earth!
Have great day, week--LIFE!

Dear Darla, Steve and Lily,

The pictures of Lily sharing a moment with her big sister Maddie are absolutely precious, brought tears to my eyes. I think a very special bond is being formed each and every time Lily enters Madeline's room. It won't be long before Lily starts to notice the cardinals and eagles that make themselves visible to you at just the right moment. She too will learn that Maddie is always with her.

We love Madeline's grave site. It looks so beautiful with all of the lovely flowers, and the mulch that was added looks like her garden at home.

Thanks for sharing such wonderful moments and pictures with all of us. It helps to keep us connected with Maddie in a very special way. Take care and God Bless.

Dear Darla, Steve and Lily,

Love, love, love Maddie's garden. The tree you planted looks very nice. I especially love the garden ornaments, they are a wonderful tribute to Madeline. Now every time you come and go, you're greeted by her in a very special way. Have any cardinals visited the garden? Looking forward to seeing what you've done.

Dear Darla & Steve,

We sure enjoy receiving pictures of Maddie and the stories you share with all of us. Madeline's tree is so beautiful all lit up. Her smile is contagious and makes my heart happy every time I see a picture of her.

Maddie is so lucky to have Emily as a friend. She sounds like a very special little girl with a big heart. I'm glad she shares such beautiful flower arrangements with Madeline, her friend in Heaven. The monument will complete her grave site.

We look forward to seeing Maddie's garden blossom this summer and enjoy its beauty. It will certainly be a very special place for all of us.

All our love,

H Darla and Steve,

It's hard not to tranpose names when you have more than one child. :-)Maddie's probabling giggling up in heaven. My Mom has always transposed my brothers' and sister's and my name. Sometimes she runs them all together in a string because she figures one of the ones she said is right. :-) She has even accidentally called me her dog's name, but that is because her name is Sandy, which is close to mine.

Steve and Darla,I am sooo excited and over-joyed for both of you upon the arrival of your beautiful new little daughter, Lily Ann! I KNOW it was Miss Madeline who got you through that very rapid labor and delivery, Darla!

She asked me to convey this message to you:"I thought it was time for Lily to arrive, after all,I have been waiting 9mos.to SEE my little sister and it is about time she made her debut! She didn't arrive quite as early as I did, and that was good, but hey,it WAS TIME! Besides, God and I had everything under control! But I am sorry, Mommy, we overlooked the "small detail" of giving the epidural time to work! I am glad you are all home together and are so happy---I am too! :-) I will always be with all three of you and I have a feeling that Lily Ann is gonna keep me mighty busy and always on my toes as the days go on...but I love it!!! and I love her and you Mommy and you Daddy... always and forever! I already told Lily, before she left heaven that she was getting the best set of parents in the whole wide world...and if you took half as good care of her as you did me (and I KNOW you will!) she will be the happiest, luckiest and most loved baby God has ever created! Know I will always be with you to guide and protect you and when ever you need anything, just call my name and I will be there! I have already shown you how very much I am with you...every eagle, every cardinal, everything happy and full of life...that IS ME just saying "I LOVE YOU!" and I am glad God sent you Lily...I can be just as good a Big Sister from up here in heaven as I could have been down there with you...but I still miss you...Please give Lily a hug and kiss from me...

With love,JOY & Warm, fuzzy hugs +

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR MOST PRECIOUS ANGEL

Madeline was born on Jan. 11, 2004. She was only with us for 4 1/2 short years, but in that time she demonstrated the true meaning of Will, Courage and Strength. Maddie had beautiful blue eyes, hair of silk (happy hair, according to Fr. Chris) and a smile that will be remembered forever. She was a constant warrior. She is our hero.

Throughout Madeline's battle with her disease, she remained strong. She taught us more about life than anyone we've ever met. Maddie's illness weakened her body but never her spirit. Her courage reminded us that every day is a celebration! Each moment, a gift.

Although we feel that our hearts are breaking and we can't imagine a life without Madeline in it, we are blessed by all that she has taught us. This child was remarkable and a true example of God's greatest miracles.

Best wishes on you special day Maddie. We hope you share a dance or two with Grandpa Porky. God Bless.

Hugs & kisses

My Dearest Ms. Madeline,

Happy Birthday to my little angel in heaven. I miss you so much. Words cannot describe the hole that your death has left in my heart. The second that I met you I felt that we had a very special connection.
I was your comfy couch aunt. Whenever I held you, you seemed to relax so much that you almost never failed to poop and/or fall fast asleep. I really miss that.(okay maybe not the smell of the CoQ10)
Thank you for teaching me so many things in your short life. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been your aunt. I am especially grateful for being one of the people to hear you say Amen. I am consoled by the fact that you are in heaven with God. You no longer feel any pain and have free movement. I hope that you are dancing, singing and eating crunch cones in heaven.

Love Aunt Joey

_HEAVEN'S PENNIES_
Upon a crowded street, in a store or in your car,
You may find a penny that has traveled very far.
At first glance you question, if you should stop or pass it by,
But what you will soon discover is a wish sent through the sky.
For this is no ordinary penny,
But a child's wish come true.
Because this very penny,
Was meant for only you.
You see, in Heaven there's a playground,
Where all the children play,
They laugh and sing and dance,
And everything's okay.
In this little playground,
In the middle of it all,
Is a magic wishing well,
That stands just two feet tall.
The children all get pennies,
To send wishes through the sky,
So mom and dad will know,
They do not need to cry.
Because in Heaven there's a playground,
Where all the children say,
"We love you mom and dad,"
"We will meet again one day."
So when walking down the street or riding in your car,
If you should find a penny that has traveled very far,
You will no longer question, if you should stop or pass it by,
For you know this is your child's wish that traveled through the sky.
For this is no ordinary penny,
It is your child's wish come true.
Because this very penny,
Was meant for only you.

Thought you guys might like this. HAPPY NEW YEAR Steve, Darla, little Lily and ^^Maddie^^!!

ON THIS DAY, WE GIVE THANKS...

We are so thankful for the 4 1/2 years we had our precious Madeline. Over and over again, she graced us with her Wonder and Amazement. Who knew that inspiration could be gifted in such a small package? This child touched many, many lives and in doing so made us all better individuals. So often in life, we take what we have for granted. May we all remember how Blessed we truly are. Madeline, you are no longer here with us because you have been called Home. Know that you have served your Maker well.

We miss you very much and think of you each and every day. We smile, we laugh, we cry. But, the memories you left us with will be cherished forever.

Maddie, I love that you have chosen to soar the skies high above. What a beautiful way to share your Spirit with us. Spread your wings little angel, and fly. Be Joyous. Be Happy. Be Free.

In church on Sunday, I was missing Maddie, thinking how different it is that she is not here in church with us.

During the service, there is a time at which I, the priest, proceed to the center step of the church for a blessing and an entrance. At that point, I felt myself walk "through" Maddie. This is an experience I have had only 3 or 4 other times in life -- to walk right into the presence of someone who has gone before us -- and it was again tangible in a way that is beyond words.

I immediately realized how foolish it was to think that Maddie is not here. At the moment of this experience Sunday, the first thing I saw was the lock of Maddie's hair that rests on the back of the Altar table.

We are indeed surrounded by the great cloud of witnesses (Heb. 12:1).

What an amazing dream!! I hope Maddie continues to visit you in your dreams and show you signs she is still very much around. It must have been wonderful to see her riding a bike. The two of you did an amazing job with Maddie when she was here on earth and now she is letting you know she is ok and is looking out for you!! What a sweetie.
Love you guys--

Our precious little Madeline. You were with us for such a short time, but you gave us so much love with those beautiful eyes and coos. Grandpa and I will miss you so much. we will never forget you. Our Tuesday nights taking turns holding you and kissing those kissable cheeks will never seem the same, but you will always be with us, especially at church when I would look down from the choir loft and see you in your cute outfits. You were sure loved and always will be. Watch over Mommy,Daddy and your little sister-to-be. Love you always, Grandma and Grandpa

Dear Darla and Steve, We were so saddened to hear of Maddie's passing. God definately picked the right parents for her. May you find peace and comfort in the coming days.
To Maddie:
Your life a challange, you stood up to fight.
Your laughter gave memories, to last
through the night.
Your smile would brighten, the darkest
of days.
Your heart could touch, from miles away.
Your love a treasure, when we looked in
your eyes.
Now in order to see it, we must look to
the sky.

Dear Maddie,
I wish I could have known you better but feel fortunate to have met you. Your Mom and Dad are so lucky to have been blessed with you and I’m sure would have liked you to stay longer but know how very tired you were. You have touched so many Maddie! I pray time, along with wonderful memories and God’s loving arms will heal your Mom and Dad. You would have been such a great big sister, and I’m sure your parents will talk about you often and show lots pictures of you to your little sister. God bless you sweet Angel Maddie.

Dear Darla & Steve,

Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. Although I never had the pleasure of meeting Maddie, the joy she brought to your lives is obvious, and after reading her journal and seeing the photos posted here, it's obvious she was a happy girl who loved her parents greatly. She was a lucky little girl to have you as her mom and dad. The two of you are truly inspirational and deserve only the best.

I wish you both strength, health, and happiness.

Darla,
The passing of a loved one can be difficult to accept, particulary when they are so young, but in such situations we take comfort in our faith that this is somehow part of God's plan. I experienced this recently with my mother. So we hope that you can come to peace with your Daughter's passing, take comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with her loved ones that went before her, and that, in time you too will be with her once again. You and your daughter are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Darla and Steve,
There are no words to express the sadness I feel at the news of Maddie's death. She was truly one of God's most "Special Angels" and has touched more lives than you will ever know! I feel so blessed to have been able to meet her and you Darla...Maddie certainly left indelible footprints on my heart...and has always been an awesome source of inspiration for my own living.

Darla, I can't tell you what your call meant to me this morning. Your thoughtfulness was overwhelming, especially in the face of your unspeakable loss and grief over Maddie's death. I am glad that we could talk a bit even though I know all words are empty when sorrow runs so deep...but listen to my thoughts and know how much I care and how very much I will ALWAYS LOVE MADDIE and both you and Steve.

All afternoon, I could think of nothing except Maddie and the HUGE emptiness you and Steve must both be experiencing as the "tip" of the reality begins to set in... My own tears were truly mingled with yours, Darla, as well as many beautiful memories of Miss Madeline!

Darla, I still remember the first time we ever met in Dr. Miller's office. Maddie was sitting on the edge of the appointment desk and I was waiting to make my next appointment, when I looked over and saw this little head of massive blond curls and these HUGE sparkling blue eyes that spoke volumes! I asked if ALL of those CURLS were NATURAL and you said yes! I said some girls have ALL the LUCK! Then our conversation just seemed to go on from there! I tell you now, that that was one of the most memorable days of my life because it was the beginning of an incredible friendship, which I pray will be as eternal as the New LIFE Maddie now shares with God!

I know heaven will never be the same since Maddie's arrival! She is now free to do and BE all that she was never able to BE fully here on this earth because of her illness. My heart feels certain that she out shines ALL of God's other Angels and that she is talking, laughing and scampering about to her hearts delight! Oh, how joy-filled God must be to see one of His most "special Angels" be so completely happy and forever free of pain, medication, tubes, and all other restraints!

However, I can't even imagine what both you, Steve and your families must be feeling tonight. God never really intended that parents would have to bury their children, yet some do...the VERY SPECIAL ONES... and you are truly among that group! Your love, courage and strength have also touched me and given me hope for my living, especially when I encounter difficult times of loss.

Please know that you will hold a special place in my thoughts, in my prayers and in my heart...especially over these next few days... and far beyond. You have also left "footprints" on my heart... Let's keep looking to Our Special Angel to continue to smile on us! May our loving and gracious God bless you with comfort, hope and peace. Thank you so much for sharing Maddie with me... it has been a treasure beyond measure that will last forever as she lives on in my heart...

Know I will be with you in spirit and in prayer over these coming days... as you grieve, remember and even rejoice that Maddie is again with her God whom she so lovingly gave to each of us by allowing us to LOVE HER!

Take care and God bless~~~

With much, much love and prayers
wrapped in warm hugs +

Hi Maddie - We are so sorry to hear that you've got another sinus and bladder infection and have had so much drainage again. It will be interesting to see what your allergy test shows. Sure do hope that the Claritin and antibiotics do their job quickly so that you can get back to your normal self soon. You sure have been hit hard with illnesses in the first half of 2008. We hope and pray that the second half of 2008 brings you good health and lots of fun times. Love you, Sweetie - Auntie Kris, Uncle Peef and Cousins Emily and Hanna

Mornin' Sweetie!

Just when you think all is well, something else enters the picture. Not that having allergies is any fun, but if you have them, that would explain a lot. Hopefully the meds they give you will help with your symptoms. Once it warms up and the sun decides to shine on a regular basis, you can enjoy the outdoors again. Hope you feel better soon.

Tons of love, hugs and kisses-

Dear Maddie - We love your pictures from the parade (and your wonderful crown) as well as your picture with your friend from school. We are so glad that you were able to go to your school party. Hi Maddie,

It sounds like you had a very busy weekend. We are sorry to hear that your retching has returned. Let's hope that comes to an end real soon. I bet you enjoyed your last day of school. I like the picture of you and that cute boy. He looks like a very nice friend. Maybe you'll see him again in the fall.

Who doesn't love a parade? You've been in more than anyone I know (except for Uncle Pete, of course). And you even have a crown! Not many people can make that claim.

We hope that your Dr. figures out the retching issue and you're back to yourself soon so you can enjoy the summer. Your bikes are ready and waiting.

Take care and God Bless +

We're glad to hear that you had a great week at home and at school. It would be nice if you could go swimming every Wednesday so you had a routine to look forward to. Hi Maddie, Darla and Steve,

Looks like we may have a nice warm weekend ahead. Hope you get the chance to go outside for some nice strolling. Maddie, I was checking out the latest pictures. You are looking very pretty! Wish I had curls like yours. I really do like that bean bag. If I had one like it at my house, the cat would put dibs on it first before I would have a chance at it, but she's 80 in people years, so she probably needs it worse than I. :-) I have a drum set like yours at my house. It makes a lot of great music doesn't it? I hope things continue to go well for you all.

We are all so proud of the progress you've made and the many milestones you have set. We continue to pray for your good health and well being.

Looking forward to seeing you soon. All our love, hugs and kisses...

Dear Maddie - I bet you are so happy that your Mommy is back home! We are so glad that she had a wonderful trip and we can't wait to see her pictures and hear more about her adventure.

Glad to hear that your cold has gotten better. We talked with Grandma Tessie last night and she went on and on about how well you are doing and what a good girl you were during their visit. We are so proud of you and hope that your good health continues.

Unfortunately, we aren't going to be able to see you in your Christmas show at church this year. We have such great memories of seeing your perform last year. Please know that we will be with you in spirit and we hope that your Mommy or Daddy will videotape the program so that we can see it at Christmas.

Love you so much, Sweetie, and know that we can't wait to see you soon for our Merkel Christmas - Aunt Tissy, Uncle Peef and Cousins Em and Hanna

Happy Halloween!

Maddie, we sure enjoyed seeing you last weekend. What a fun party you threw. I'm glad your mommy was surprised to see all of us. Give her a crown and some music and she can really crank-it-up. My belly still hurts from all of the laughter. I'm glad that Maddie also got in on the fun. The DJ sure knew what to play to get her movin'.

We hope you have a good week with mommy before she leaves on her trip. Just think of all the hugs and kisses you get when she returns...oh boy!

Darla, have a safe trip and enjoy this time you have with these wonderful little beings. I'm sure they'll capture your heart in no time. Take lots of pictures and make the most of the week you have with them. May you leave them with love, hope and most of all, laughter.

Take care and God Bless...

Hi There Maddie, Darla, and Steve,
Maddie, Those pants with the lace you have on remind me of my favorite pair of fringe pants when I as 4. Mom's got good taste in fashion. :-)Glad to hear your doing good and hope you have many wonderful times with Dad while Mom is in Guatamala. Darla, I will get a check over to Steve for the orphanage. I one time had to pack 2 suitcases with clothes to wear for 2 years. When I was finally coming back to the states, I ended up giving all my clothes away so I had room to bring back things my friends there had made for me. :-). I used to make fudge for the local kids (the word the teacher was making fudge again spread pretty quickly so the crowd grew from 5 to 30 in a matter of minutes)and they loved coming over just to draw pictures to hang on my wall. I still have all the pictures they drew too. :-) I know you are going to have a great time and will be truly touched spiritually from the time you spend there.

Hi Maddie, Darla and Steve,
I apologize that I have been so remiss in writing in your guest book! I don't know where the days have gone? I was so sorry to hear that you were back in the hospital again, Maddie! In your pictures you looked so sick....it made my heartache for you,my Sweetie! I am so glad that you are home again and feeling better! I have been praying for you every day and asking all the Angels to surround you with healing and smiles again because there is nothing as sweet or contagious as your smile! I am hoping that maybe your Mommy can bring you for a visit again when you are completely well and feel like being out and about again! I MISS YOU SO MUCH! It has been a long time since our June visit and I think it is about time that "we Girls" had some catch-up time again! YOU really keep us busy with updates!
I promise I will write to your Mommy and see what we can arrange! Until then, take good care and God bless you with His special gift of healing....you're much to lovable and CUTE to be sick!!! Especially if you didn't even get to have a visit from Sasha! :-( How unfair and SAD is that???
With bunches of love, warm hugs and Kisses-all wrapped in many prayers +

I just wanted to check on you guys and Madeline today. Glad to see things are going fairly well, but for the sleep. I wish I could say something that'd help. Good Morning Maddie,
Sorry to hear about the tummy problems. I am glad the medicine worked and helped you to feel better. You are quite the fashionista in all those pretty outfits. You remind me of Princess Leia from Star Wars in that last picture. (My role model when I was little :-)). Very cute. Hope this is a good week for you. Dear Maddie - So glad to hear that your week last week was much better, however, we are sure hoping that your doctors come up with some sort of a longer-term fix with your tummy issues as the epidode you had last weekend does not sound pleasant. Darla and Steve, I am so glad that you had a more peaceful weekend and got some REST and relaxation. I have really been holding you close in prayer and I am glad God was listening and that we were on the "same page"---that really helps!
I hope that the resolution with the school district works out, By next September, they ought to have ALL of the kinks worked out so that Maddie can start on time and everything will go as smooth as clock work! Nontheless, I will keep that intention in prayer too...I don't always trust the government, or whomever, to follow through on all of their promises. It always seems to look good "on paper" but there is always that chance of some loop-hole or "slight mix-up" just when it is time to put the plan into action. I don't mean to sound cynical...but I have been there and done that!
So here is hoping everything will go as smooth as icing on a cake!
I also now have hope again of seeing you on Saturday June 2nd---maybe? If not just let me know, All will depend on Maddie, I just want her to be totally well. Like I said, if she is not up to it, we will do it another time...summer is just beginning!
I LOVE her pictures that you added from the hospital ESPECIALLY the one with Sasha, my favorite fruend! Isn't she a beauty and just the most loveable dog ever? Somehow, she always finds me when I am over at Gillette and I am thrilled! She also has a very nice owner! I am so glad she was kind enough to pose for such a nice picture with Maddie!
Well, I hope tha ALL three of you have a much better week this week~~~that won't be hard, will it?

With my love, care and prayers +

We missed you at the Graduation Party...we know that you would have been there in a minute if you had felt good. You and Mom missed a great time! (Of course it would have been better with the two of you there!!!) We hope to see you on Memorial Day to celebrate your cousins birthdays.

Dear Darla, Steve and Maddie,
I can't tell you how sorry I am to hear that last night was such a horrific night for all of you. I am glad that you are at Children's getting the help you need, my little sweet Angel!
Maddie, you just have to get well real soon because your Mom and I just made a date for you to come and see me at the Monastery on June 2nd! I have waited a long time to see you again, since we haven't been meeting in Dr. Scott's office anymore.
Please know, Darla and Steve that I am praying for all THREE of you in a very special way. After reading your update for today, Darla, I have spent extra hours in chapel praying for Maddie, that her pain may be relived, that the doctors will get to the bottom of her problem and that you and Steve will be able to get some very badly needed rest...along with Maddie. You know, Darla, that I have a LOT of CONFIDENCE in Children's Hospital and I will just continue to pray that God will guide the hands and minds of the doctors as they care for Maddie. God bless of all of you...

Hello Fall Family,
Love all the pictures. The haircut looks really nice. I'll pray the doctors figure things out with her tummy soon. I hope they get the school situation figured out too. Because of all the work you have done to resolve it, maybe they will get a better procedure in place for the future. Although I wish that you did not have to go through all this effort as you all have enough to deal with, I think you are trailblazing a change that will benefit others as well as Maddie. Maddie, you have some really fabulous parents and I hope you have a wonderful summer going for bike rides with Dad and Mom. God Bless.

Hi Maddie,
We had such a wonderful weekend with you. Your new hair cut is adorable. You really do look like Aunt Debbie! Hope your belly starts feeling better soon, that can't be much fun. Maybe a bike-ride would help. You seemed to enjoy yourself the last time mommy shared your bike story.

We hope you get some answers from the "school people" soon. Mommy and Daddy are frustrated and want what's best for you. If not this year, certainly by next year, we hope you're a student. Keep the communication flowing Darla...you're speaking for Madeline.

Have a great week and stay well.

Hugs and kisses...Love Uncle Hugs, Auntie Diane, Jordan & Ethan

Miss Madeline, we could hardly wait to see what you looked like when we heard you had gotten your hair cut! I think you are even more adorable in short hair! (is that even possible?). I bet it feels good to have all that warmth off your neck, huh? The new pics are so great! I especially like the picture of you in the Burley. You look very comfortable! Tell daddy he needs to find more 'down hills' next time you are out riding.

We love, love, love you! Hugs and kisses, Uncle Larry, Aunt Deb and cousin Matthew.

Maddie,
It looks like you were pretty sad with your long hair. You look much more content with it shorter. I'm sure it feels funny to not have your hair around your neck or piled on top of your head. It looks like you could get back to "Buffy tails" before the end of the summer.

I like your hair so much I may ask for the same style.

I like the picture of you on your first bike ride. Going down the hills is always the most fun when your a passenger. Do it again Daddy!!

And what's with the instant tan? I was out both days helping Uncle Dan prime the barn (it is now a deep grey-blue and will eventually be red)and I have very little color. Uncle Dan on the other hand got a bit of sunburn on his back. OUCH!!

You seem to be thriving now more than ever and this is the best news ever. School can wait until everyone can agree how to handle the "Miss Maddie" factor. It's not the first time anyone has had to reconsider how they treat you. Your needs are unique and getting it right is more important than getting it done fast.

Lots of hugs to you Maddie and we too hope to see you over Mother's Day weekend.

Kisses, Kisses, Kisses, Hug :)

Dear Madeline - You were so beautiful with your long hair and are so beautiful with your new short hair. I think your haircut is adorable and I hope that we will be able to see it in person over Mother's day weekend. Also think that it is so cool that you donated your hair, Sweetie. You and your Mommy and Daddy are so thoughtful.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your first bike ride. I sure wish that crazy school district would get their act together so that you could start school. We hope that the issues are resolved soon. It's great that you can now go for a bike ride. Yet another fun new adventure for Miss Maddie. It sounds as though all went well and you actually had a good time.

Maddie,
Here you are a little girl who normally needs so much in a day and yet everyday you give so much back to all of those who get to interact with you. And now you continue to give. This time by helping some other kid, like you, who will be going through a tough time. It's too bad they can't put your story with your hair. It would be very touching for the child/family to receive.

I thought about doing the same, but I hardly think anyone would want my badly colored, damaged hair. Just ask your Mommy.

Lots of love to you and remember your hair will grow back and you can donate again. You are a wonder little peanut. One of GOD's best.

Hugs and Kisses,

Hello Fall Family,

Maddie is pretty cute and has great curls, so long or short, her hair will always look nice. I cut off my hair and sent it to Locks of Love a couple of years ago. At first, I thought I would miss it, but it was so nice not getting my hair caught in the window, the car door, under my purse, under my shoulder when sleeping, in the vacuum cleaner, etc. :-) They sent back a nice thank you, too.

Hope you're getting outside to enjoy the beautiful weather. Have you used your swing yet? That sounds like fun to me!

Hi Maddie,
I keep checking your website everyday just to take another look at you sleeping so peacefully in your "big" chair. I think you are the new "queeny" in your house given your new throne (I mean chair). What a cutie you are!!

It looks like you are gearing up for the greatest adventure yet - SCHOOL!! What an experience this will be for the whole family. Again, we will all be waiting for the pictures of you on the bus, in your room, your therapists, etc. Peanut you have always commanded a crowd and as always this experience will be the same. We hope all the scheduling works out.

Good luck with their kid cart adjustments. It is important to get it right so your aides can get you outside for walks (not to mention, the rides to school).

As always, you are in our thoughts and prayers and we can't wait to see you again (it may have to be after Easter since your Aunt Neesie is not sure she could make it to back-to-back Easter services.

Maddie, you never seize to amaze me. You have done so well after your surgery. I couldn't believe--seeing your Daddy carrying you from surgery to the PICU. Breathing on your own and being such a big girl even though you were in pain. It was such a wonderful treat to be able to hold you before going home. Glad to hear that you are continuing to do so well and that you were able to get rid of the CPAP machine and that crazy alarm. Yes, your Mommy is right... This aunt will not miss that alarm one bit.

Dear sweet Maddie,
We are really glad that you have sprung back so fast from your surgery. It must be such a relief to be able to breathe without a struggle. May you continue to do well with all of your daily activities so you can rest peacefully at night. I'm glad to see the machines go, as I'm sure all three of you are. Hope you continue to thrive. Stay well...hugs and kisses

Well Maddie it looks like alot of things have turned to the positive ever since the surgery. Fewer machines (good bye C-Pap), more massages (gotta love that), new clothes (you and Minnie have alot in common), and an all around general better feeling.

Great Job Peanut - keep it up!! :)

Way to go Maddie :)
I see you are taking your pacifier all by yourself in the picture with Mommy. It's amazing how a cleared airway can make such a positive impact on so many different areas of your life (no C-Pap and "no hands" pacifier sucking)!

What a littel trooper you are. We're sure all the doctors are still talking about their favorite patient "Miss Madeline" and smiling thinking about how you had them at the top of their game and then proved them all wrong by sailing through the surgery, recovery and post-recovery.

We can't wait to see you soon, snuggle and test out the pacifier trick.

Darla and Steve - Yes, she amazes all of us everyday. What an angel. Trinity Lutheran was praying for peanut last week and several people came up to both Dan and I this past Sunday to get the progress report on Madeline. We were very happy to deliver the news and they were very pleased to hear the news. You most definately are invited back any time. Madeline has her own following within our church.

Hugs and kisses to all of you, but mostly to Little Peanut Pooh Pooh Butt (yes, we all know Maddie is not exactly a peanut anymore - as noticed in the picture with Grandma Fall - but she will always be Peanut to her Aunt Neesie).

Love,

Hey Maddie - I did not have the chance last week to write you a note, but wanted to let you know that we had a blast at your Merkel birthday party a week ago last Saturday. As usual, you were such a sweetheart. We just got our pictures back from the party, so will try to send some your way.

It sounds like there is a lot of planning going on in your world with getting someone to cover for Heidi during her maternity leave and trying to figure out when you will start school. And your surgery date is quickly approaching. We will all be very glad and relieved after you have had those nasty tonsils removed and are back home and feeling better.

Take care, Sweetie, and know that you are ALWAYS in our thoughts and prayers. Love you - Aunt Tissie, Uncle Peef and Cousins Em and Hanna

Mornin' Maddie,
What a wonderful celebration you had this weekend. Your party hat was the best. I wouldn't be surprised to see your mommy wearing it. Looking forward to seeing you in all of your new sundresses. Let's hope that spring (and warmer weather) is just around the corner.

We all hope that you stay well for the next few weeks and that surgery goes as planned. Our thoughts and prayers are with you always.

Happy Birthday to your daddy.

Take care and God Bless-
Love,
Uncle Hugs, Auntie Diane, Jordan & Ethan

Hi Steve, Darla & Maddie,

Last time I checked the web site and Maddie was not sleeping very good, due to her biapap machine at night. Did things seem to get better after a while or is she not having any more breathing problems at night? Any way you are lucky if you don't have to put up with nursing in your home 16 hrs a day. Just wish he did not need his trach or that stupid bipap machine. Our lives are just not our own to many people in our home. You completly lose all privacy that a family deserves. I'm so happy for the 3 of you that Maddie does not need a trach. I would not want it for my worst enemy. Thank you for keeping in touch I think of all of you alot. God bless all of you

Maddie,
Thank you for being a trooper while your Aunts, Grandma and cousin did the work of one person. You sure have developed an easy going pace and we appreciated it. I don't know how those girls are able to get through all those curls to get your hair fixed everyday? We had quite a time with just the pigtails.

Thanks for the shout out for the Bears. Unfortunately Uncle Dan's team did not win.

Can't wait to hear about your Drs. appointment and the opportunity to see you again this weekend.

Take care and know we love you whole bunches and lots.

Love, Aunt Neesie and Uncle Dan

Dear Maddie - Once again, Emmy and I had such a great time hanging out with you on the weekend! Thanks for being such a good little girl for us and for your many smiles and coos. You are an angel and we love you so very much.

And the really cool thing is that we get to see you again this coming weekend to celebrate yours and Hanna's birthdays. We hope you have a great week and that your doctor's appt. on Wednesday to discuss your tonsils goes well. Take care, Sweetie, and know that we are sooo looking forward to seeing you on Saturday - Aunt Tissie, Uncle Peef and Cousins Em and Hanna

Hi Madeline!!
We are so sorry you are feeling poorly. I hope the doctors can figure out a way to get those adenoids and tonsils under control. Having a sore throat and swollen tonsils does not sound like any fun. I wasn't aware that adenoids could grow back? Anyways, please feel better soon. We love you and miss you!!

Maddie, your adenoids have swollen, after they've been removed. ??!?!! I didn't think it was supposed to work that way. 1 + 1 = 3? Or maybe; 1 + 1 = green? Your uncle is scratching his head. We must discuss this further.

So, tongue removed from cheek, thanks for the shout out and keep thinking Navy Blue and Burnt Orange!!

Thoughts, prayers and love,

AMEN!

Oh Maddie,
Looks like you've given the aides a run for their money this week. We were sorry to hear of your sore throat and the complications this poses for not only you but your Mommy and Daddy.

Hope you're feeling better and the issue regarding your tonsils can be resolved sooner rather than later.

Hugs and kisses Peanut,

Love Aunt Neesie and Uncle Dan

Thanks for the shout out (I know your Mommy added that especially for your Uncle Dan).

Take care little peanut

Oh my Miss Madeline! It sounds like you had a very rough week! We are happy to hear the steroids have given you some relief and are hoping you are feeling lots better soon. (I don't think any of us would be very happy if we had swollen tonsils!) Hope you are feeling nore like yourself soon! (for mommy and daddy too).

Tons of hugs and kisses from your Uncle Larry, Aunt Deb and cousin Matthew (we still think your pictures are adorable, tears and all!!)

Mornin' Maddie,
Sure hope that you're feeling better soon. It's no fun being sick, especially with a "painfully" sore throat. We hope you're back to smiling soon.

We are excited about the meeting your mommy has scheduled with the school. Can't wait to hear the news. This would be something truly wonderful for you.

Take care and God Bless. See you soon...love,

Dear Maddie - So sorry to hear that you had such a rough week with your cold and cough. Having tonsils the size of grapes must be terribly uncomfortable. :-( I would be crabby too! Sure hope you are feeling better very soon.

We can't wait to hear about your Mommy's meeting tomorrow to discuss your school plans. How exciting for all of you! Take care, Sweetie, and know that we can't wait to see you soon. Love always - Aunt Tiss, Uncle Peef and Cousins Em and Hanna

Hi Maddie,
Is that the new aide in the picture with you on the first page of your website? Oh, I see, it's your Mommy (just kidding). Mommie never seems to get in the pictures very often but it is good to see you both laugh alot when you are together.

It is unfortunate you've had to go through all the things you've had to to get the VIP treatment at Children's. We are all happy you were able to get a proper and permanent fix to your GJ tube issues. Although, we've seen some of your Daddy's handywork and he could consider seeking a patent for some of his ingenious designs.

Sounds like you have some big days ahead of you with your new teachers and aides. Perhaps you are more aware of these changes and that is what is making you a bit more cranky.

See you soon peanut, Lots of hugs and kisses,

Aunt Neesie and Uncle Dan, XXXO
