Mike & Abra,
I just want you to know that you are the best parents a child could ever hope for. You loved Nathan and cared for him with everything you had, and no one could have asked for more than that. Keep loving on Mikey, Shelby and Kinsey and lean on each other daily - so that your family will continue to strengthen through your loss.
We loved Nathan 1 thousand million billion and you guys too! Don't forget to keep in touch and always look forward to the time that you will be reunited in Heaven with your little boy!

Love is victorious over all traps and snares of the enemy. The loves of your family and your husband will carry you through this if you have the faith that is needed. hold tight to your family and continue in love for each other and this too shall pass. It is god's will that is what is important here, I understand your pain and I feel your loss. No thing can fill the void only time can close the gap in your life, it is more the eaiser if you have someone to support and love you. Praise God.

McKean Family,

Just wanted to send our condolences during this time of grief. Here is praying that you quickly find that moment when all the anger and grief are no longer haunting...and the only thing you have left are the fond memories of your son.

I'm an so sorry to read about Nate. The last thing I saw, he was getting stem cells, and I just popped in tonight to check and found so much had changed. You're family has continued to be in my prayers. I'm so sorry that my prayers haven't been exactly right the last few days though, since I didn't know. I'll be praying for your comfort now, I know that isn't nearly enough though!

McKean Family,
I've never posted before but heard about Nate from Laura Stile's site. My 4 year old son has NB too. I am just so sorry Nate lost his battle. I can't imagine your pain. His picture is so sweet and I'm sure he was an even sweeter boy inside. Please know he will live on in your hearts always. May God give you peace, strength and joy as you continue to LIVE each day to its fullest. Our warrior kids show us how!

Dear McKean Family and Rhonda,
I am so sorry for your loss of little Nate. I remember the day Nathan was born and although I only met Nathan once, I feel that I came to know him through "Ganny". He was a lucky little guy to have had such loving and devoted parents, siblings and grandparents. I wish it was possible to give you just a little of the comfort that you gave Nathan on a daily basis. Pleas know you are in my thoughts every day.

Mike , Abra, Mikey, Shelby and Kinsey. No words we say can take away your pain, but we wanted to say we are here for you. Nathan was a cute little redhead that touched us all, his short life touched so many! Can't even imagine what you are going through, but pray that all the love and support from friends and family will carry you through many days to come. I wanted to leave you some words from a song called " Gentle Hands"

" Gentle hands holding on to me
Gentle hands guiding me so carefully,
though they lead me down through paths I dont always understand, I will never fear for I am in Gentle Hands. God bless and keep all of you! We love ya, Lowell, Val Spencer and Ashlin.

Words cannot express how sorry we are for your loss.

A Letter from Heaven
Mommy, I dreamed you a letter
This comes from Heaven above
Even though I’m up here
I can still feel your love
In Heaven there is no sorrow
There’s never any pain or fear
And would you believe I’ve not been sick
One time since I’ve been here?
You’d be so proud of me, Mommy
I can do so many things
And everyone says I look real cute
In my Halo and my wings
Every year at Christmas
We have a great big tree up here
And guess who gets to be the Angel
On top of the tree this year
Mommy, I dreamed you this letter
That I’m sending you tonight
To tell you not to worry
And let you know that I’m all right
Sometimes I hear you crying
And I wish you weren’t so sad
Cos I think you’re the best Mom
Any Angel ever had
So please don’t feel bad for me
I’m in God’s tender care
And he wanted me to tell you
That he hears your every prayer
I know you miss me, Mommy
You know I miss you, too
But remember, me and God
Are always watching over you
We want you to have a good life
Full of happiness and joy
I’ll see you in your dreams, Mommy
Love, Your Little Boy

I received this after my husband passed away unexpectedly and I find it comforting now and I knew at the time how true it was: "Some people come into our lives --- leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never, ever the same."
With time, your family will be OK and go on, but those little footprints are forever on all your hearts.

To Nathans Family and Friends,

Don't think of him as gone away, his journey's just begun
life holds so many facets this earth is only one.
Just think of him as resting, from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days and years.
Think how he must be wishing that we could know today
how nothing but our sadness can really pass away.
And think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched
for nothing loved is ever lost and he was loved so much.

God bless you all, you are in my prayers.

To the family of Nate - such a special little boy,
There are no words to make you "feel better" or comforted at this time. No one is ever ready to lose a loved one, no matter the circumstances, and a child must be the biggest loss of all. One day the memories you made with this precious son and with your family will be comforting to all of you. Until then, grieve as you must and believe you will smile again one day while thinking of Nathan. He made a difference.

McKean family,

Grandma Rhonda told me about Nathan's passing this morning at work. I am so sorry for your loss. I can not imagine the loss of a child or grandchild. There is nothing that can be said or done to ease your loss and sorrow at a time like this. But please know that Nate has touched the lives of more people then you will ever know. Many of us never had the privilege of knowing him but we recognized that he was a truely special little boy. He was burdened with a horrible disease and taken far too soon from the family that clearly loved him more than anything. Life is never the same after you lose someone close to you. You learn to live diffently. The sharp pain fades eventually, far longer them they say. But there is an ache that becomes part of you from that day forward. That ache will remind you of how lucky you were to have been graced, even for a painfuly short time, by someone so special. You and your family are in my thoughts and you are as strong as your son was.

Memories Keep Those We Love Close to Us Forever

Although words seem to say so little,
I hope they help in some small way
to ease the sense of loss
that you're experiencing today.

Hold fast to your memories,
to all of the cherished moments
of the past,
to the blessings and the laughter,
the joys and the celebrations,
the sorrow and the tears.
They all add up to a treasure
of fond yesterdays
that you shared and spent together,
and they keep the one you loved
close to you in spirit and thought.

The special moments
and memories in your life
will never change.
They will always be in your heart,
today and forevermore.

Love Kelly

Mike, Abra & you adorable kids,
I was honored to have been allowed to grieve with you this weekend, as your little guy was very much loved by this family. I know that "you don't know how to do this"...but we will be praying for you and are here for you in whatever needs you have. Take it one moment at a time, and you WILL perservere!
I know that Nate is now being held in the arms of Jesus and is no longer in pain, and knows no sorrow or fear or any of that bad stuff anymore. Please trust in that. If you have faith in that, you will see him again in Heaven.
We love you all and will be there this weekend to celebrate the life of the bravest little boy there ever was.

Hello Nate and family,
My daughter Elizabeth (4 years old) loves the picture of you flying the airplane. She wanted to know who you were, if she had the same kind of boo-boos as you, and where the plane is that you flew on. I think she wants to fly on the same one so she can wear the hat. Nate, congratulations on your trophy. This is Auntie Kim's friend, Debbie. I forgot to tell you that at our Relay for Life in Pensacola they honored your bravery by reading out your name and put it up on the big screen for everyone there to see. We also had a luminaria for you. It is a bag lit up with your name on it and is placed on the track that everyone walks around for 18 hours to raise money to fight cancer. Auntie Kim donated money to the American Cancer society in your honor. You and your family are very brave. Even though we have never met, it is hard not to be very proud of you.

Nate I wish you the best of luck in California. My grandaughter Lexy also did a MIBG Treatment in California in November 2004. Dr. Mathay was Lexy's doctor. Tell Dr. Mathay we said hello from Texas. I will continue to keep you in our prayers and check on you. The room you will be in has Scenes from the book "Goodnight Moon", which is such a cute book. Maybe when you get out you will feel like seeing the "ARF ARF's" (Sea lions) on Pier 39 at the Warf. Lexy loved seeing the wharf and San Francisco has a great Zoo. Nate if your mommy needs a place to stay the "Family House" is within walking distance from the hospital. It is sort of like a Ronald McDonald's House. If your mommy has any questions, please email or I will give her our phone #. By the way you are so cute, I love your picture. www.caringbridge.com/tx/alexiaflory

Hello Nathan and the McKean Family!
It's been a long time, but I do have an excuse...as I was in the hospital for the last 2 weeks and went through a pretty yucky surgery.
I am home now, and I was finally able to read up on the journal - and I can now spend all my down time thinking about Nate and praying that this new treatment will work for him.
We all miss you guys...
I hope that sometime this summer after the big "outage" at Pete's work, we can come for a visit and give you all big hugs - especially NATE!!!! And tickles, too!
Until then, please know that you are constantly on our minds and hearts. We love you, and God does too.
Hang in there and feed the boy lots of Mexican food and fatten him up a bit.
Take care of yourselves and make sure you are getting some sleep, OK? We love you muchly...

I can't wait till you all get together and play. I am very proud of you big boy. Keep taking that medicine and keep strong. Lots of hugs and kisses to you and your family.

Hi Nate, You don't know me, but I just wanted to say hi! Your parents probably tell you to stay away from strangers, which is a good thing, but don't worry, I want to be your friend! You're the coolest kid around! You've had tough times, but I admire your strength to keep going no matter what. My hero!

Tell your family to stay strong and stick together as you have been doing. I am all the way in New York. That is far away, but somehow it doesn't feel so far, because your story has touched me very deeply.

Hey Nate:
I'm just writing to say "hi" and to send you some hugs and kisses from Eastern Washington. Keep playing hard and being the giggly guy you are so good at being. Do me a favor, OK? Can you make sure to give everyone in your family (esp Mom and Dad) a big wet kiss and a really huge squeezy hug at least 3 times every day? I want you to do it in the morning when you wake up - sometime during the day - and then right before bed, OK? If you do that, you will get a surprise next time we come. :)
We will see in in a few weeks. Megan and Casey can't wait to get there so they can TICKLE you. :)
Love,
Auntie Shayne

Hi! Just checking in on my little buddy! I'm sorry the results weren't better - but remember that Nate is strong - you all are - and you can keep fighting. I'll pray today that the team of doctors will offer you many options and you will be led to the right decision for Nate. I know how hard it can be to hear all the medical stuff and figure out what is best. Give Nate a hug from me!

Hi. I found your site thru a NB link (Kaitlyn from Australia). Our 3 year old son had his auto stem cell transplant on Tues., 8/23 at Duke University Health. To see your son's fight is an inspiration. (They share a similar tumor site - skull.) Keep up the fight and your faith. We will all beat this monster!

Hi McKean family, I'm Tonia"s Mom (Tonia works with Grandma Rhonda at PSBC). Of course you are all in my prayers- we only hope there is a merciful God that will give Nate the chance he needs to grow up. I hope you had the best time ever at Disneyland and Sacto - I love that city! Nate is a special little boy, as is your family, for having to deal with this monster and you have to believe there is a reason for all of this heartache. Try to keep the faith and I will continue to pray for you and yours.

Hello McKean's from the distant land of Wisconsin!! I recieved the link to this site from the Patterson's just today. I was saddened and thrilled through and touched by the rollercoaster of events you have had to deal with. I can only imagine how difficult it all must be. Hopefully your family knows that our hopes and best wishes are there for you always. If there is ever anything that you ever need that I or Lisa can do, you should know that all you have to do is ask. I owe Big, Goofy, Navy Mike more than I could ever hope to repay. He was (and still hopefully is) a trusted and dear friend. Your family always extended warmth to my cheesehead butt (even when you lost to us in football) and I know all will come out well regardless of how steep the climb is. Best wishes and love to you all.

Hi Nathan,
I think that is awesome news that you will be getting your central line taken out very soon. I pray for the day that we can take our daughter's out. Your mom is right, they do save our little ones from getting pricked by a needle, but they are a pain in the butt to take care of. My poor little girl has to deal with the pain of having the tape taken off her cheast every week. I really hope that you get yours taken out soon so you don't have to worry about infections. I heard about your new room in the basement! That is totally awesome! I bet you love to spend all of your time down there now. You probably even ask your parents if you can eat and sleep down there! =)
You are a tough little boy and keep fighting because you CAN and WILL beat this thing. Keep us all posted on your progress. As always, you and your family are in my family's constant thoughts and prayers.
