Journal entry by Alisha Verzwyvelt —
Thank you all for the prayers and support you have given our family over the last year. God does answer prayers! Nick was able to move out of the apartment in New Orleans a few weeks ago and returned home to stay. We’ve had some much needed time together as a family to readjust. We have settled back into somewhat of a routine, and it feels incredible!
I believe Nick is healthier now than he has been in years! His personality has returned in full swing – he’s laughing and joking and enjoying being home. His sense of taste and smell are almost back to normal, so he is able to eat most anything he wants. He is slowly regaining strength, and his mental clarity continues to improve. We are enjoying the simple family time together – trick or treating, watching LSU football, and spending time outside. Nick taught Gage how to ride his bike without training wheels! What an enormous accomplishment for them both!
It’s hard to think about everything Nick and our family have been through over the last ten years; it’s been hard on everyone. I am still in awe over the kindness and support of our family, friends, church and the churches of our friends and family. Nick still has some challenges to overcome and more trips to Oschner’s Hospital, but I have to believe the worst is behind us. We have been blessed with a second chance on life, and I look forward to making up for time lost time spent on illness.
A $25 donation to CaringBridge powers a site like Nick's for two weeks. Will you make a gift to help ensure that this site stays online for them and for you?
