I'm Evan.  I turned 16 a few weeks ago, and like any other 16 year old, can't think of anything but getting my license on February 15 (one month and one day from my birthday).  That will have to wait for awhile though because I have just been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) and will be at Riley for awhile.

I'm a sophomore at Franklin Community High School where I take pride in my school work and enjoy the company of my friends and fellow football players -- many who have promised they're going to shave their heads with me.  Wow, are there going to be a lot of ugly dudes walking around FCHS!   lol

We have a very close family.  My little sis, Claire, is being amazing through all of this.  She is so strong, and I'm so proud of her.  My mom and dad know I'm going to get through this, but I can't do it without them.  They're beside me all the time, watching, loving, and praying.  Grandma and Grandpa are about to see how tough I really am.  And my three aunts (and uncle) say they're as proud of me as they are their own children.  My cousins might be a little scared, but that's cool.  It's new to me too.

Everyone tells me I'm a great kid.  I don't know.  I'm just being me which is pretty easy.  God has presented a new challenge to me now, and it is sure to test my strength, the strength of my family and friends, and our faith.  I'm ready for the challenge though and hope you'll join too. Hang on tightly, and STAY STRONG!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Patty Meade

Hello all,

I know it has been a while since I have posted, but I just wanted to take a few minutes to update all of you on what I have been up to and how I am getting along. My first semester at Butler was great and it feels like it was yesterday that I was moving all of my stuff into my dorm room. Second semester is off to a great start and is flying by just as fast. Towards the end of January I had a bad run in with the flu but have since gotten past all of that feel great again.

At the end of winter break, I returned to campus one week prior to the start of classes to go through the fraternity rush process. The week was a great success and I am now a future active member of Delta Tau Delta. This was the house that I set out to join so this was a great week as I got a bid to join the house. I'm more than excited for these next three and a half years with my brothers that I have already formed great relationships with.

Spring break is just a few weeks away and I cannot wait to escape the cold with 40 of my Delt brothers as we will be traveling to Ft. Lauderdale to enjoy the week on the beach and in the sun. I will be flying back the Friday of that week (March 15th) in order to make it back in time to see Franklin Community High School dance marathon have its third event. This will be a bittersweet moment for me because the event was something that I started and it really is a weird feeling having no part in its planning process. However, with Claire and a large number of my younger friends at the helm, I know for a fact the event will be a great success.

This Saturday, the 23rd, I will be taking part in the Dance Marathon here at Butler. I have spoke at this event the past two years as one of the attending Riley Families and also a hopeful soon to be bulldog. I am excited to be at the event as a Butler student and also as a normal participant of the event as this will be something I have yet to experience.

On that note, with being so busy since the beginning of the semester, I am a little behind where I would like to be with my fundraising goal. So far I have $125 and my goal is $500. I know that reaching this goal in one week will be very difficult but if any of you could help me get even the slightest bit closer to my goal it would mean a lot to me. Every single dollar gets me that much closer to my goal and helps a kid at Riley get closer to their goal of being healthy. If you would like to help me out on my mission the link is below:

God continues to bless me everyday with every opportunity that I have. I want to thank you all of you for your continued prayers and support. I'll never be able to express how thankful I am to have all of you behind me.

Evan
