Carol’s Story

Site created on September 21, 2018

I am using this website to keep family and friends updated in one place.
Carol has a very rare variant of AL Amyloidosis that has manifested as nodules in her bronchioles.  Paired with her already present COPD it has made life very trying for her these last few years.  Two weeks ago she came down with a virus and, unfortunately, it settled in her lungs.  While there was no bacterial infection (pneumonia) the virus took away what little reserve she had left.  She has been unable to come off of the high flow oxygen provided at the hospital and so can not return home.  Several days ago she decided that she wanted to be more comfortable and signed herself into hospice here at Swedish.  The Providence Hospice team is AMAZING!  She is in a beautiful room with a great view of the mountains, and she is comfortable.  There is no more air hunger or chest pain from the amyloid lesions.
I will update this website often so please visit and check back.  Leave a message and I'll make sure she reads it, or I will read it to her.
We both appreciate your support and words of hope and love.   Thank you all for loving my mom.  She makes it easy.
Sincerely,
Angela Beschta
