I ran across Matthew's card in a drawer of mine just the other day. I had lost track of you guys while Carson was busy finishing his heavy treatment and transitioning into a maintenance routine.
I am so heartbroken to hear about Matthew's loss, there are no words. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers even now. Praying that God's love continues to embrace all of you!

Kate and Frank, Thank you for sharing your precious Matthew with the world, and your journey through grief. We can all be richer for knowing him and Jesus through your eyes. I agree with you, once you lose a child, you really do a lot more soul searching and some beliefs come to change, you read the Bible meanings a little differently, but you also search to know more about Heavenly life. It's such a spirtual heightened awareness! I too have the same birthday ritual, 12 yrs. out I bake my Sarah's favorite cake on her birthday and eat with her favorite flavor of ice cream! I even make a floral birthday cake (shape like a cake) to decorate her grave. It just feels right for our family! Do whatever feels right to bring you comfort!

Hi Katie and family
I was thinking of you guys and Matthew all day yesterday his birthday. I am happy to see you are still writing. Your open sharing is a great inspiration. It is amazing to hear of the dreams Matthew had to know what he knew. I love how God gives these special gifts in dreams sometimes. Thank you for your "I miss..." sharing it does help us all appreciate each other more... each moment is a precious gift. You continue to be held and carried by the One who loves you so, it is obvious by your story. I love how you are allowing this experience to deepen your knowledge and faith as you see the writings in many more facets and new light. Thanks Katie and Keep writing!!! Love, Patricia

Hello Katie and Frank...I woke up this morning and the first thought I had was of you guys. I logged on to facebook and saw that Katie had updated the page. I am happy to hear that everyone is doing well. I agree with Emma's idea of celebrating Matthews birthday...I think you need some Lightning McQueen balloons too. We say a prayer for your hearts to heal each and every day. Know that he is smiling down on you and the girls and having a great time doing it. Hang in there!

Hi Katie, I am so happy to see you continue to write. I imagine that as other parents who have lost a child read your journey they will be filled with the hope and grace of your sharing. There are all sorts of challenges to face as we walk this life. I imagine the loss of a child(for you and Frank) or sibling for (for Emma and Ruthie) must be one of the most difficult. Hearing how you take the steps one day at a time continues to be an amazing story. Thank you for your heartfelt prayer. Take Good Care, Patricia (Lois' friend) Keep Writing!!!!

Katie,
As an old classmate not seeing you on a daily basis, I want you to know that you do keep touching those near and FAR with this blog. Writing is a form of expression..why hold it just in your head and heart..let that expression be known in the written word.
Ya know I am not of the same religion but I am touched at your devotion to it. I always say religion is what you make of it. I truly believe that.
I also believe there is a silver lining to everything around us. By reading and hearing of your devotion, you have helped me to help my special needs son. I want you to know you are helping others more than you will ever know.

Thank you for being true to who are and how you feel.

G-d Bless you.

Your writing was beautiful and heartfelt. Please never go against what your heart tells you. It is a blessing to you and to others to read about your feelings. There are many who can't/won't express themselves. Knowing what is in your heart and how you are going day by day is an encouragement!

Hello Kate, Frank, Emma and Ruthie....we think about you every day and hope that each day becomes a little easier for you to take on your "new normal". We would read your blog because it lets us (your readers) know that you are O.K. and I would imagine a release for you to journal your feelings as you go through this grieving/healing process. We also think about Matthew and his new life in heaven....you know he is having a BLAST showing his Mad Dog soccer skills and smiling down upon you guys every day!! I don't know if you will remember me. We are so very sorry for your loss and understand it all too well. Josh died on February 18th and we miss him every second of every minute of every day. I really thought we had the Neuroblastoma beat, but no. Dear Katie, Thank you for sharing Matthew's story w. us. It has touched me in ways that I just can't explain. Not a day goes by where I don't think & pray for Matthew & his family. I am in awe of your unshakable faith. Matthew & Emma's relationship reminds me of my own relationship w. my younger brother. You sharing about them running home from the bus - and Matthew going to any length to win made my heart smile. Even though I have never met Matthew, I have been touched by him. His life has reminded me to have gratitude & live each day believing in God - both of which I can easily forget. I know that the grief process can be very tough! Having lost my mother / best friend - I like to advise people to have days where you just sit in your pajamas all day & cry. Eat a gallon of ice cream - calories don't count when you are grieving! Watch sad movies. Play wii. Honor the process. My mom is still w. me. I don't know how she does it - but she is still able to yell at me all the way from Heaven. I came to learn that we actually grieve for ourselves - because our loved ones are in Perfect Peace. God Bless - Tara

Dear Katie and Frank,
I said it once, and I will say it again and again and again...You are both an inspiration to us all.

As I was reading your words from Matthew's Celebration of Life Services, I was laughing, I was crying, then I was laughing again, and smiling so bright. I never had the privilege of meeting Matthew, however, I felt the charisma that he had through your words. I giggled as I pictured him with his head back laughing at Emma as he was racing her to the house. My faith is so much stronger now because of Matthew's story. The Lozada Family has touched my life and so many others. For that, I thank you. God bless you all. With love, Lisa Fardella

Dearest Lozada Family,
Words can't express how deeply your loss touches me. As I read your journal entries, I felt like I was walking once again through my own sons pain as I walked along with all of you. Mathew's true victory is his walk with Jesus, as is all of yours. Your strength and his strength is a victory to all of us and your loss is a loss we bear with you. Please know that I so wanted to attend the service, but could not bring myself to do so. Although I was not there, my thoughts, prayers and love was with all of you and will forever be. I truly hope we can meet soon and talk about our two precious sons and the blessings they bestowed upon us. Believe me when I say..."YOU HAVE SEEN MANY, BUT MORE ARE YET TO COME".

The Lozada family-

I only had the pleasure of taking care of Matthew for one day, but I will never, ever forget that day. Your family had- and always will have- so much love, support, faith, strength, and heart throughout this difficult journey. It deeply saddened me to hear of your loss, but I am comforted knowing he is no longer suffering and in God's hands. He truly was a warrior, and the moment where he took my hand and said "thank you, Erin" will never be forgotten.

Frank, Kate, Emma and Ruth,
We are always thinking of, and praying for you. I can't express how hard Matthew's passing hit me. I know he is in a much better place now. I just want to share something with you that happened when I found out. I was with my youngest daughter Kelli driving in the car when Laura called and told me what happened. Kelli could tell that I was saddened by the news about Matthew. She asked me what was wrong and I told her that a very good friend of mine just had his son pass away and that he was very close to her age and that it made me sad. She thought for a minute and said "Well don't be sad daddy, he is an angel now and he can take care of everybody" I hope that little saying from her will give you a little comfort because I know it did for me. Sometimes kids just say things that should be obvious to us adults. We love you guys so much. God bless Matthew, and your family.

To my sweet nephew: I have spent the past 8 1/2 years with the blessing of being your Aunt. Your smile, your mad scientist laugh, your inherent sweetness has more times than I can recount been what I think about at the end of a difficult day.

As I was preparing to be a mother, knowing that I was going to have a son, I thought often of you. You and your sisters have made me a better mother to William -- and he is better for having you as a guardian angel now.

As I reflect on your life, I keep coming back to this: to know bravery, to know joy, to know hope, to know love is to know you. God has truly blessed your Uncle Rich and I with the privilege of being your family, and I will carry that blessing with me for the rest of my life.

As for your cousin William, not a day will go by that I don't tell him of you -- of your spirit, your bravery, and most of all your love. You showed such love to him in the time you spent with him, and I will never forget you stealing a kiss to his forehead when you thought no one was looking the last time we saw you. Though he will not grow up with you, he will know you, and he will love you.

The three of us love you, and will continue to love you everyday for the rest of our lives here on Earth.

Katie,
My thoughts and prayers are focused on you and your family today, and will remain so in the coming days. I'm both saddened and rejoiceful that Matthew has left you for a time. What wonders his eyes are now seeing. What joy his heart now knows. What peace he now resides in. In the presence of our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus, Matthew is now rejoicing.

Hello, Sweetheart. I don't have too much to offer, many words of comfort or inspiring thoughts. I have prayed for your Matthew, I heard about your family through Theresa's Facebook. I just thought you'd like to know there's yet another person and family touched by your dear Matthew. I am the mother of a four-year-old boy, and now also step-mom to a 3-year old little girl. The two of them were best friends from the moment they met-funny how God gives siblings of all kinds that kind of bond. I prayed for Matthew several times, but only after seeing that you had posted since he passed did I come see your page. I began sobbing the instant I saw his dear little face, and especially when I saw the picture of him and his sister-and I haven't stopped really since. My heart and prayers are with you and your family. I'm positive I don't quite have the right to mourn like this, and I know he deserves a celebration. But nonetheless, I wanted you to know that he is mourned by one more, and I know God will touch me and my family through his memory and your experiences with him. We care. God bless you and your precious family.

Katie,
I was deeply sorry to hear of your loss today. I was thinking tonight about how this young boys struggle has impacted so many people in a deeply spiritual manor. The thoughtful prayers and intercessions of the Deity have penetrated a wide spectrum of our community. Your faith has inspired many to take a deeper and more introspective look at their lives in relation to the Gospels and teaching of Christ. For this, I thank you. Our faith is a tangible asset that grants us access to everlasting life with our heavenly Father. RIP to Matthew and may the Holy Spirit blanket your family in love and healing. Amen..

It has only been recently that I was made aware of the battle you were going through, but I can say that you have encouraged me, in more ways than I can say here, Through your journal I have become re-focused on what matters. I can not imagine the what you are going through, But I know others that have been where you are and they found release in sharing. I encourage you to share as often as you feel the desire or need to. You may be the link someone else needs to stand strong one more day or the guidance to turn to God for their comfort. Maybe one day in the distant future your girls will want it as a keepsake, memories of their family and understanding what they can't fully understand now. Just a thought....

I am so sorry for your loss. I know Matthew is in heaven, in no more pain. I lost my mom 18 months ago in a car accident and perhaps she will get to meet Matthew up there. It is sad for us to lose them before we were ready, but I truly feel this is just a short term separation. We will all be there reunited with our families and Jesus soon! What a reunion that will be! Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers! May God soothe your sadness and may He cushion your landing in every step you take as you create a new history, here on earth without him. God has helped me and I am confident, He will be there for you all too! God Bless You All.

This was very heavy to hear and grasp and I had to ask God, is this real and the question that most Christians don't admit asking God, Why?. I pray comfort and peace to you and your family especially the girls. (Matthew loves his sisters.) I remember Matthew in my 4 year old children church class at STM and when we discussed family in our lessons he would let everyone know that when he gets married he still is going to love and live with his parents and sisters and his wife was just going to have to deal with it. Frank and Katie know that the Bridegroom has him and he will live in your hearts forever. God Bless You!

Help them find peace and comfort in your Word and strength in the loving arms of our blessed Savior. In Jesus Name I pray Amen...John 15:27 :Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you, not as the world gives do I give to you, let not your heart be troubled neither let it be afraid." Rest assured this is not good bye...For Matthew is not gone forever, he has simply gone home ahead of you, he is whole, complete without pain...he is running through the streets of Heaven singing and laughing and you will see him again soon.

I know that Matthew and your whole family have been suffering for a long time. I hope and pray that you find comfort in knowing how much Jesus loves you and cares about your suffering. I know that He is holding Matthew's hand and pray that He works His mighty power for your family.
Matthew 9:20-22 ... a woman who had been suffering from a hemorrhage for twelve years, came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His cloak;for she was saying to herself, "If I only touch His garment, I will get well." But Jesus turning and seeing her said, "Daughter, take courage; your faith has made you well." At once the woman was made well.

Dear Matthew!!
You are HEALED!! and even though we have not seen the manifestation of the Awesome Power of Healing of God in your life in the natural you have already received it in the Spirit realm. You are such a strong boy and your loving parents such an awesome and strong testimony of Faith for those that don't know who the God we serve is. I already declared you HEALED and now I want to continue to Praise,Glorify, and Give Thanks to God for your Healing. I continue to patiently await for the unseen to be seen and for the moment in which we will all rejoice together with your parents because you are finally home with your family.Katie and Frank, remember that the God we serve is not a God that lies.He already told you that Matthew is Healed and therefore Matthew is healed. He is right there with you and your entire family every step of this journey. Give God Thanks and give God all the Glory that He is on the Throne and that He is in control of this situation.
I love you and continue to Pray and will continue to Pray for you and your awesome family. May the Lord continue to give you Peace and Comfort and Strength while you continue your race. I am sending my love, God's Peace and God's Strength to you and your mom,dad and sisters.I surround you with the LORD's shield of protection and ask the Lord to continue to ask the Lord to guide your steps. Thank you,Lord for the Healing You have done in Matthew and Thank you Lord that you love him so much that you are going to use Matthew and his entire family to Glorify and testify about You and the love you have for those that believe and trust in You.I declare that you have already Healed Matthew in your Son's Holy Name, IN THE NAME OF JESUS I PRAY,AMEN!! Father
We know that many prayer requests have been offered for young Matthew and we know that Your Word says if we believe when we pray that we receive then we shall have whatever we ask for. Therefore I offer up Praise Lord to You that Matthew's health is completely restored to, even as I type these words He is showing the manifestation of that. I give you thanks Lord for taking on all manner of illness and disease on your body when you were crucified. Because You live in Matthew and You have paid the price and taken away all those illnesses We give you all the glory for we know you live inside Matthew and that means the devil has no right to put signs of death or illness on him THAT PRICE HAS BEEN PAID, THIS CHILD HAS BEEN BOUGHT, all signs to the contrary of God's living breathing Word must disappear, be gone in the name of the Holy and Annointed lamb of God, Jesus Christ we pray this and declare that Matthew will not only live but live to declare the love and truth of God and His mighty and Awesome power. We also pray Father for peace for Matthews family at this time and strength Lord to stand in faith regardless of what is going on around them.
In Jesus Name
Amen

Dear Jesus – I may not know this family personally, but I am confident that you know everything about them. The bible says that praises are like sweet incense to you and I am sure that you have enjoyed the praises from Katie’s posting, how sweet it must be to hear someone glorify you even in the midst of her storm. I ask you now Lord to hear Katie’s prayers that the new drug works quickly, that Matthew has good strong blood pressures and the bilirubin number goes down quickly. I pray that the swelling in Matthews belly goes down and that his white cells come in soon. Lord please protect his skin and provide protection, peace and comfort for Ruth and Emma. Please protect Matthew from any infection and help his immune system to grow quickly. I ask you to wrap your arms around Katie and Frank and provide them a strength like they’ve never known as they love and care for their precious son. In Jesus name I pray - Mary

I was here at work reading your journal. I want you to know that your story about Abraham brought me back to reality. The trials of everyday life sometimes become overwhelming. You forget how important it is to lay things in Gods hands. I can do that again thanks to your's and Matthew's story. My heartbreaks for you and your family. Hi Katie your story of Abraham was very moving. It's strange I woke up this morning and I thought Matthew is such a special little boy but God has something even more special in mind for him after he is healed and out of that hospital. I am positive as he gets older it will all come to light for us. I just hope I am around to see the outcome myself. Life is so precious and you all show us in every update, every step and hurdle you make that there is so much more to come!!! I pray God watches over all of you and his healing hands will take care of the job that needs to be done. As always we love you all and keep you close in our hearts!!!

When in dire distress I run into the arms of Jesus. He is the comforter, redeemer and friend. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. My prayer: Lord surround this special family today with your love and protection. Give them grace and mercy and endure hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ, while at the same time, resting in the loving arms of their Shepherd...for we are His lambs and He cares!

Deuteronomy 33:27
The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.

Isaiah 54:17 (New International Version)

17 no weapon forged against you will prevail,
and you will refute every tongue that accuses you.
This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD,
and this is their vindication from me,"

in this time of illness
asking that you may be the source
of strength in body,
courage in spirit
and patience in pain of Matthew and his family.
May we join ourselves more closely
to you on the cross
and in your suffering
that through YOU
they may draw patience, hope and healing.
Assist Matthew and restore Matthew to health
so we may give praise and honour to your name.
Amen

Hi Super Matthew! I am an old friend of your Auntie Faith. She was my maid of honor when I got married to my husband almost 20 years ago. I am a 2nd grade teacher here in NJ. In Jesus' name, I pray that the Lord brings you strength and makes your cells grow steadily - "grow cells grow, but not too quickly". I found a verse that I'd like to share with you. It's from Ephesians 3:14-17. "So I bow in prayer before the Father from whom every family in heaven and on earth get its true name. I ask the Father in his great glory to give you the power to be strong inwardly through his Spirit. I pray that Christ will live in your hearts by faith and that your life will be strong in love and be built on love." In Jesus' name, God bless Matthew. Amen.

Precious Lord Jesus here my prayer. As you lift up your arms, the fluid will leave your lungs. As you lay hands on the kidneys and liver the armor will be placed. Wash away the sores and pain. Gracious Lord as we cry out for help we know that you are merciful, kind, and your love surpasses all understanding. From the top of your head to the bottom of your feet In Jesus name be healed. As you formed him in the womb precious Saviour and took your time to create Matthew who is unlike no other. You created this Special little boy to teach us what it means to have faith, what it means to be brave, kind, thankful, to see the goodness in people,to know and receive your presence. In the still of the night, we know you are there, in the moment just before dawn we anticipate the morning coming bringing more miracles and witness to your glory. There is no mountain we can't climb, no trouble we can't bear, no leukemia we can't overcome because Lord you are on OUR side. We praise you, We reach our arm up to heaven to meet yours. You are with us, We are being shown the miracles, the glory, and the majesty of your holiness. Lord as you walk each and every day with my Son Frank, My Daughter Katie, My beautiful Emma, Your chosen one Matthew, your little spark of pure joy Ruthie, comfort them as only you can. Put your hand in theirs, They are on the Lord's side and nothing and no one can rise up against them. AS evening has fallen, let the day dawn anew in your glory and healing for Matthew. We can never thank you enough for all the blessings, learnings, & comfort you have bestowed upon us. In Jesus Name we pray, In Jesus name we pray, IN JESUS NAME WE PRAY AMEN AND AMEN. Mom

Much of your California family was together tonight - Aunt Chris, Funny, Rudi, Ruby, and me. We thought about you a lot and your mom is right, we all pray differently and even though we don't pray in a way that may be familiar to you, we held you so deeply in our hearts and sent all of our love and thoughts your way, willing you to feel peace and comfort and for your body's struggle to free you at least a little. You are so loved and your mom and dad and sisters, too. Be as strong as you can and forgive yourself when you can't be. We love you. xoxo, Jenny

Lord Jesus - we pray in Your name that you will heal Matthew and allow these cells to grow and make his body like new. Give Matthew comfort as he struggles through this healing - hold him in your loving arms and kiss his tears away. Thank you Jesus for the beauty of Science that allowed this healing to begin and the awesome doctors and nurses that You send to Matthew and Katie. Lord we pray for Katie's strength both physical, emotional and spiritual - consume her with Your strength because she has none of her own. You provide the peace that no other can and we claim that peace for Matthew, Katie, Frank, Emma and Ruth.

Please release the good cells into matthews body..slowly. Please repair the damage to Matthew's body from the radiation, so he can breathe easier, swallow and open his mouth to drink and eat. Please heal Matthew completely Lord, so he can return to being a little boy, and have not the worries and pain anymore. Please bless Matthew, his siblings, especially Emma who gave of herself to help her brother. God, I know You have the power to restore Matthew to good health. I ask You to work such a miracle now. You already know the details of the situation over which I pray. I await Your healing with much hope. At the same time, however, I pray for the faith and trust to accept Your will in this situation. Enable me to trust Your judgment in this and in all things. Hope you are keeping warm and snuggley. I think about you often. I will also pray for your family. Each week, we pray in our church for you. I am a friend of your Auntie Ange! Keep up the fight, Matthew. God will help you!

Please know that all of you are in my prayers! I am a believer in miracles, as I have seen them happen on a daily bases. Stay strong. God has his hand in this! Grow Cells Grow! My new chant! I am eagerly awaiting good news! God bless you all!!

I used to have real hampsters as a kid until one day the mother had babies and ate them all...yuck. That did it for me. I like the fact that the Zuzu pets aren't real, and don't leave a mess! Very important...no messes. He, hee. Well, hang in there big guy...I hope all of your wishes come true! We are pulling and praying for you!

Good news about the perfect match. Lots of prayers going Emma's way so she will be at peace with it when you tell her she is going to save her brothers life. That really makes her one special person. For the rest of us, everyone reading this has blood and unless you have a deferral go sh donate blood. Matthew along with a lot of other kids (grown ups too) can use it. It saves lives! It only takes a few minutes, they give you juice and cookies and zap...you become a HERO!!

Couldn't sleep. It was 10 minutes before 2:00 am and had been prompted to pray for Matthew, so I got out of bed to go into the "soaking prayer room" in my house where I've had IHOP prayer room on continuously this weekend. As I walk in I hear the prophetic worship team singing...
"I know You are able. I know You are willing. Stretch out Your hand"..."The work on the cross was enough"
The prayer focus is "Healing in Your City" and rapid fire prayer for those who are sick, so I joined in with them singing and praying over Matthew. The Presence of God is so strong right now!

Dear Katie, Even though I do not know you very well and have never met Matthew or your family, I know enough to know you are a "Chosen Mother" and your strength and faith are rock-solid. The pain of watching a loved one suffer is horrible but the peace and strength it gives Matthew to know you are there is immeasurable. He is surrounded by love. All your friends and family are around you pushing out lots of love and strength so if you become weary lean back a bit and you will find more. I think of you all through the day and am praying for strength and recovery for Matthew. love, Kitty

I wish I had the perfect words to say Katie.....but I don't. I've written 5 or 6 things and erased them. It doesn't sound "spiritual" to tell you I'm crying with you....just for the simple fact that you even have to open this site up again. I do know this promise of God though..."Those who sow in tears, WILL reap in Joy!" I'm praying for Peace, that just doesn't make sense, Joy in the midst of this storm, and that Joy will be your strength. I love you all so much.

Hey Matthew -
You are looking pretty tough in the karate gear. You look like a younger version of your Dad. I bet you can give him a run for his money. We are watching the train and hoping it keeps going many more days without treatment. Hugs to you, Emma and your Mom and Dad. God bless and keep you all.

Hey SuperMatthew -
We love your new pictures and music. Disney World was a lot of fun - we can tell by the look on your Dad's face on the Buzz Lightyear ride - wow, it's good he had you on the ride to hold his hand!! You and Emma look great on Halloween. Bet you had lots of fun!! Your Mom says you are making a trip to see your Dad and that you are getting a new work dog. We hope your trip is good - we know you will be glad to see your Dad and that you miss having him home. Your Mom and Dad really enjoy you and Emma. Jesus keeps all of you in his loving arms. We pray for all your family that you will do well on Dec 7th and that the final spinal tap and bone marrow aspiration will be of great success. Have a fun Thanksgiving and we will be waiting to hear all about your trip. God gave you a very special Mom and Dad and sister. In Jesus name we love all of you and pray for your health and happiness.

grandson and grandaughter, Nana loves you with all my heart. When I see a sunshine, I think of you and how much warmth, light, and brightness you have brought into my life. Your Nana also is a mother, infact your mommy is my beautiful child. Everytime I look into her face I see the face of an Angel....An Angel who always makes things better...An Angel who never lets anyone see how tough it is sometimes or how tired she is. If I spent the rest of my life doing good things, charity work, or helping the least fortunate, I could never surpass her unselfishness. Some might say, their her children, Matthew is her sweet boy....but I know better!!!!!Katie has been touched...The Holy Spirit dwells within..Katie if you sense that someone or something is around you, you are so right!!!!!It is your very own Nana.....I love you so much! Dear "Mr. Man" Matthew, my precious Emmie,Frankie, & Katie: Your Nana loves you with all my heart. I Pray for all of you everyday and give reports to all my customers who have been praying for you too. When little Matthew went down with leukemia in 03'God,Jesus,the angels (special angels like Old Nana, Old Paw Paw, Kenny Pop, Bonna & Old Pop ) picked him up and lifted him and each of you to another place where the holy spirit dwells. You each know what the word "grace" means and have handled this past year of tests, trials, & tribulations with grace. Words can not express the love I feel for each of you, and for Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. May you continue to be blessed by his love and be sustained by his comforting power. Love Nana ( Katie's Mom:)
