I can't believe how much Jack and Charlie seem to be a like. Did your AVT know what was going on with Charlie. Mine didn't she thought maybe he wasn't moving along with speech because of Behavior, Sensory intergration, oral motor. We had all of the evaulations done and they came back that nothing was wrong. I finally got a second opinion from another AVT and she said he is "classic" apraxic. I'm so made at myself for waisting time and not going with my gut that something was not being addressed and feeling like a failure as a AV parent. Now I know this was not the case and Jack acutally did have another issue. I'm just so glad changes are happening so quickly. Look forward to me info on Charlie. He is a sweetie.

Charlie is adorable! My daughter, Tessa, has a CI too and will be getting her 2nd one in March. She is 4 as well and this year has been absolutely amazing for us too. The Wiggles looked like fun. By the way, we lived in VA beach when Tessa was born. It's a small world.

I just read the last few entries in the journal. It is so much fun to read them. Emmi is down to her last few appointments before her second surgery, and we are really looking forward to it. Especially now that I read how great Charlie is doing with two. Hope all is well.

Charlie looks darling! He will do great with his CI. I love the way you describe his words! Auditory therapy will help tremendously. You are doing great with him. I, too, have a profound hearing loss that was discovered at the age of 2 with no family history of deafness. I received a CI last year and will go bilateral in January. I wore hearing aids for most of my life, am a wife, mother of four children (three are boys!), and work as an accountant. Nothing is impossible!

That word list didn't bore me! My granddaughter Emmi (www.caringbridge.org/visit/emmi) was implanted with her first cochlear implant two weeks ago. The whole extended family is waiting for May 23, when she will hear again for the first time. (We hope!) Thanks for the inspirational update and for including your son's website on the Hearing Companions site.

I think your Charlie is doing quite well from what you have said on the post. My daughter's "hearing b-day" is three days after Charlie's, but she was 2years and 2months old. She is now saying several hundred words, not all clearly, but she is a year older than Charlie. When he is her age, he will be well beyond what she is doing! You are very blessed! Hang in there, I know how hard the whole process is!

Hi Charlie,
You are doing such a good job! Tell Mommy that it is okay if you watch your DVDs- I think that the ones that you are watching are quite educational and it is good stimulation for your brain. I wish Rachel liked watching TV or DVDs- her older sister really does and her language skills and comprehension amaze us and I know some of it is due to what she watches on TV or DVDs. And your mommy is right- it is better than a meltdown! Keep up the good work. We will be checking back soon.

Hi Charlie and family!
As the mom of a child with a cochlear implant, all of your entries feel very familiar. Everything seems to progress in slow motion at first and then something happens and they add new sounds daily. Katya (27 months and 7 months post-activation) tries so many new sounds that I have to keep a journal!!! It is so exciting, I almost wonder everyday at how much she has improved. In 3 months you will look back and realize he is babbling and talking. Keep up the good work. It is a joy to read about your beautiful little boy. It would be fun, one day, to have a reunion of all the kids implanted in 2004!!!

I loved the Rockabilly Combover comment!!! We are so happy to hear of Charlie's progress. It sounds like he and Emma are well on course to talking our ears off before long! I know what you mean by the patience thing with the expressive language. Emma is now saying "out" and "up" as clear as can be. Two weeks ago, no words. This week she has three. Who knows what the coming weeks will bring! Charlie is such an inspiration!

Mom and Dad! Aren't you glad that part of things is all over! Reading your description of Charlie taking his normal stance at the front door and dining room table and dancing created the greatest picture in my head. These kids do not let anything keep them down! Emma's ear protruded a little and still does but with her long hair it is totally not noticeable. Reading your entry from 4/9 sounded EXACTLY like what we went through. Now you get to look forward to hookup and Charlie hearing!!!! We can not wait! Hey Charlie,
You are so blesssed with your Mommy and Daddy, and very soon you will be able to hear them tell you why... over and over... "the hours of labor I had to go through" etc.
Just remember I will always be a phone call away, and we can tell silly stories together.
My Love from our home to yours
Your almost Aunt Linda

Hey Charlie,

God has it all under control!! Think of it this way...He made the world in 6 days and was even able to take the seventh day off. He has you in his hands and you are going to get through the operation fine. You're in our prayers Bud.
