Morgan's cure was celebrated this past January when she passed the 5-year mark since achieving remission. Words are inadequate to express the gratitude all of us in her family feel for the support she received during the ordeal and the continuing thoughts and prayers that come her way.

Presently, Morgan is a bright and happy 3rd grader. She and little sister Marlee enjoy each other's company and their time with family and friends. "Pop" and I plan to visit this weekend for Halloween and enjoy having lunch at school with the girls.

Again, thanks to everyone who keeps Morgan in your thoughts and prayers.

Laurie & Family,

I dont have the words and so much is lost in electronic communication but I can remember courage was the ability to move through fear and the emotion of adversity. Where fear can be reoccurring, adversity is there until successful completion yet is a precursor to character.

I am stunned at your daughter's courage at such a young age. She is spot on that most people dont learn this until much later..... To have such character and insight so young is a gift.

How fortunate you are to have a gift such as your daughter...

Hi Randel family,

Boy, that Morgan is wise beyond her years! We saw you in the crowd across the street at the Chuy's parade on Saturday. I hope you all had fun--we sure did. I looked at your website with all the pictures--those halloween costumes are awesome. You all are so creative. They sure put our store-bought costumes to shame. We are all doing well and have also settled into a "new normal." We are finally planning to have Ella's port removed. Can you believe it's been 3 years?
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season! We too are incredibly thankful!

Hello again from Buda,

Looks like everyone is doing well and beginning to enjoy the hot summer months. And hot they are! I'm happy to have a way to keep up with Morgan's progress and always a welcome relief to hear she is still doing well. Keep the updates coming on all of the family! I think of you often, pray for you frequently and look at Morgan's picture in my office every day. She's an inspiration and a blessing to everyone that meets her. Love to all...Morgan's 'Wisher' Debbie

Randel family, I have kept up with Morgan's page since Jennifer started her page in April. What a beautiful young lady and friend Morgan is. I am so happy that she is doing well. I also wanted to say thanks for keeping Jennifer's page up during the times when Tim and Mary were not able to update. It's easy to see why your family and theirs are so close - you all are the most caring people I have ever "met". I will always keep Morgan and your family in my prayers!

MORGAN! A broken arm?! Now, Laurie, didn't we talk about this once, right before Annie broke HER arm? It's true that we'd take something as simple as a broken arm over cancer any day, but really, there's no need to go and have BOTH! That's a little much, don't you think? :0) Morgan, we are very proud of you for being such a brave big girl--you are amazing. Rest up and get better soon. Annie has lots of sympathy for you. Broken arms really hurt! Take care.

I just heard about your Little girl, and wow - 21 months and no sign of AML - Thats great. It gives me hope, and makes me smile to know a little girl is feeling well today thanks to science, love and care. Its amazing! This is the sort of thing I need to read more often - Im with the Friends Of Allie group and lately, things havent been what they should. Its sad. So, thank you for sharing your wonderful daughter and her growing health.

As for the most recent post, it was beautiful, and so loving of you.

I met you and your family at the LLS banquet. I was there for Allie's Angels, now called Friends of Allie. I started following Alex's story after you told me about him. He was a brave little man and will now be a guardian angel to Morgan. Thank you for sharing your feelings so openly.
And tell Morgan Tarah said hello. I am so glad things are GREAT with her!

Hi Morgan & Family,
We are so glad that you are doing great. I know the feeling of checking counts. We are down to 4 more weeks of chemo & while we are excited & counting down, I can't imagine not going in every week. I'm glad that you're going to be in the Light the Night Walk. A friend & neighbor of ours is going to be there as well, is honor of Allie Scott (www.scotthousehold.com) Laurie, I know how you feel about Morgan's health versus another child. Being a cancer parent puts you in a hard spot sometimes. While you are thanking God that your child is doing well, you're heart is breaking for another family that is having a rough time or has lost their child. Thank you for being honest in your update. Maybe we'll see you at the clinic sometime, or at another Candlelighters event.

Make Your Own Fairy Dust

First, you take a little bit of glitter...

Add a sparkle of wisdom
And a pinch of fun,
Sprinkle on some starlight;
Now the magic has begun!

Throw in a twinkle of hope,
Then add a flash of glee,
A bit of luck and patience
Will help make your destiny!

Now all you have to do is
close your eyes and make a special wish!!

Hey Morgan and Family,
Thank you for your prayers for Garrett. It is going to be a rough road going through this again. I wish you would have gotten a crash course on the GKTW badge, you should not have waited three days until you realized what the "magic button" could do. I am glad that you were able to go and have fun. Garrett and the other kids had such a great time when they went. Some of our family lives in Florida and they were able to join us. I just wish I knew how to post the pics on the album so everyone could see. Maybe we will see you in the clinic and I can give you my number if Tony would be willing to teach me. The beach is such a fun place for kids! I would really like to take mine there, but everytime we have gone there seems to be oil or jellyfish (which you found). I am so happy that things are going well for you and I hope they continue to do so. Take care and keep in touch.

I found this poem on another web page, thought I would share it with you.

WHY US

Most women become a mother by accident, some by choice, a few by habit.
Did you ever wonder how mother of children with cancer are chosen?
Somehow, I visualize God hovering over the earth selecting his instruments for propagtion with great care and deliberation. As He observes, He instructs his angels to make notes in a giant ledger...
"Armstrong, Beth, son, patron saint Matthew"
"Forest,Marjorie, daugher, patron saint Cecilia"
"Rutledge, Carrie, twins, patron saint Gerard. He's used to profanity"
Finally, he passes a name to an angel and says, "Give her a child with cancer."
The angel is curious. "Why this one God? Shes's so happy."
"Exactly, similed God. "Could I give a child with cancer a mother who does not know laughter? That would be cruel."
"But does she have patience?" asks the angel.
"I don't want her to have too much patience or she will drown in a sea of self pity and despair. Once the shock and resentment wears off, she will handle it."
"I watched her today," said God. "She has that feeling of self-independence that is so rare and necessary in a mother. You see, the child I'm going give to her has its own world. She has to make it live in her world and that's not going to be easy."
"But Lord, I don't think she even believes in you," said the angel.
"No matter. I can fix that. This one is perfect, she has just enough selfishness."
The angel gasps, "Selfishness? Is that a virtue?"
God nods. "If she can't seperate herself from the child occasionally, she'll never survive.
Yes, here is a woman I will bless with a child less than perfect. She doesn't realize it yet, but she is to be envied. She will never take anything her child does for granted. She will never consider a step ordinary."
"I will permit her to see clearly the things I see...ignorance, cruelty, prejudice...and allow her to rise above them."
"And what about her patron saint?" asks the angel, his pen poised in mid-air.
God smiles and says "A mirror will suffice."

Hi! I'm a good friend of Patrick Ede and family. I gotyour website from them:)/their guest book. I read up on Morgan and I'm thrilled for her remission. I too have a website...I am a 39 y.o mom w/ five kids, battling a rare cancer. I am not in remission, and that is not a possibility w/ what I have...I do understand so many of the things you all described aboutthe preciousness of life....we have been inspired by the edes challenge, and yours and many opthers. WE just wanted to say hello and that make a wish trip sounded awesome....I think they should have something like that for adults w/ terminal diseases :)...or for their families!!! Sometimes, those special things help take the sting out of a hard time. My children have weathered well w/ my hospitalizations and trips t o the Netherlands, but it has taken a toll on our famiyl of course. We all hate cancer....and I think I could be more thankful for it, if I could leave it behind....we don't know God's plan in all this, but if you'dlike, you can keep up w/ our journey on my website...http://www.caringbridge.org/tx/tajbrown/ Thanks for your website and pictures...what a beautiful , brave, girl and may you not have to ever hear her cry about a hospital again....and NO MORE port a cath. I have one too, but it is not going anywhere! Tell Morgan, she is a doll and that I am praying for her too. Also, I will go to the other websites you mentioned ifI can. There is nothing harder than watching helplessly as your child goes through this. It is hard enough as an adult....many times I thank God, it is me who is afflicted and not them (although, kids seem to bounce back better than we adults...my oompha is waning!) love, Taj Brown, Cedar Park, TX
p.s. I know of ella too. she is the grand daughter of alady I met at the pool.

Laurie,

Thanks for signing Spencer's guestbook. Unfortunately, the end of radiation isn't even the half way mark for Spencer's treatment, but it has definitely been the most stressful part of his treatment, at least for me, because it's daily, and so early in the day. It will be nice to go back to just chemo. It's funny how your perspective changes. I can just imagine the scariness of coming off-treatment. I'm already afraid of it.

Tell Morgan that we are so happy that she got to go to Disney World, and that her port is out, and that she's a TV star, and that she doesn't have cancer! :0) She's living the dream, right? We hope to be living that dream sometime near the end of this year (at least the cancer-free part), and praying that Morgan continues to do so well.

All my wish kids are special to me, however, some of them touch my heart in a very special way. Morgan is one of them. May God continue to bless you and keep you in his loving care. I pray that Morgan lives a long happy and healthy life. From the journal entries, I know that you are loving parents who advocate for your little girl. I know how hard it is to live your life always worrying about blood counts, BMTs, LP's, transfusions, infusions, infections, unexplained bruising, fevers... It is exhausting and I feel for you. It is hard. I pray for Morgan and your whole family. God bless you.

What a beautiful website and tribute to a courageous little girl. I pray for a total and everlasting remission. She was diagnosed 11/28/01, relapsed earlier this year, had radiation and is currently doing great! She and her brother are about the same age difference as your girls. Precious friends,
Amazing what a difference a year can make eh? Weird mixture of emotions...incredible thankfulness at Morgan's still being here and doing so well but incredible sadness for the pain of those we know who have gone on ahead or are preparing to do so. Doubt we will be able to sort that all out while on "this side" of eternity. But praises in the meantime and thankful hearts. We join you in rejoicing and in praying for continued healing and full restoration.

I am wanting to get to know you so much better and I hope that we can as time goes on. At work we work with Children's Miracle Network here in Kansas City. I would love to be able to do something here for you to help out. I mean after all we are family!! I will let you know what, when, where, and how. I will get it going ASAP! This week I will be sending of my letters "Miles For Morgan". For those of you that I don't know who may read this, I am A friend of the Randels from when they lived in Chicago. I have decided to walk the Chicago Marathon on October 12th to help raise some money to be used for the extra expenses ( DVD's, classes, toys, treats...)that every little girl deserves. I have asked my friends and family to pledge a dollar a mile- that's $26.20 because I will complete the marathon thinking of Morgan, Marlee, Laurie and Tony each mile of the way. If you would like to participate as well just forward your pledge check to the Randels with the memo: Miles For Morgan. Laurie, I wish I were near by so I could help you physically with the kids.I wish I was as strong as you and Tony because reading this web page brings me to tears. Morgan is so lucky to have you both. I hope I can muster up some cash to help y'all out. Please know I think about you all the time. Grant sends a big hug to Morgan. Love you all!

I'm thinking a "year of recovery" is in order for the Randells (and the Edes) We are saying NO to tons of stuff-even really good stuff. Its understandable if you'd even want to pull up the drawbridge and put sharks in the moat! I bet an emotional and physical delay is perfectly normal in our circumstances so I totally understand the meltdown and would predict more to come. I think it is a healthy release. Exercise would be a great release too but who is that virtuous?! Give germ free kisses to the girls for us. Headed to Houston tomorrow and once a week until BMA 6/17. Hope NOT to see you at the office.

Sweet Randall family,
Congrats on being finished with treatment. That is a reason to celebrate. I'm getting a feeling that life "under remission" is in some ways more of a faith walk than life in the hospital where things are controlled and you get lots of data to buoy you or at least inform you. The same God who carried you through the seemingly endless days and nights in the hospital can carry you (and us) through this next phase too. We all need to cling to Him now, same as before learning to live lives of "Ruthless Trust". We love you guys and are right alongside.

May God Bless you and your family through this test of faith. God's not the tester, But Satan is, and we know what a liar he is!! God is powerful! He is awesome! and he'll show up when you think you're at your end! Stay grounded, you may sway, you may bend, but you won't break, because God is right there holding you up. I know that you're loving that baby girl with all the love that you have to give, that is the most powerful of all healing therapy.-----We can never understand where God is guiding us, or leading us on this journey called "life", I know it's hard sometimes to try to understand the why(s), just trust him, and know that he is the only one that holds the answer, although he has given us physical beings to care for us in this earthly place, God Almighty takes care of us spiritually, I haven't met Morgan and her family personally, but I am praying for the Lord to help you, and strengthen you when you need it most, I love you, and I'm giving God the Glory even now and even upon Morgan's "revealed" healing.....don't ever stop giving God the glory and the praise, because if you can praise him through this, imagine what the other miraculous blessings he has for you!!!

I will treasure forever what Morgan said after I had finished reading her "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No-Good, Very Bad Day." We were just sitting together enjoying the moment, and I said to her, "Morgan, have you ever had a terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad day?" With the most incredulous look on her face, she smiled at me and said quite definitely, "No!" What a spirit!!

That incident gives me a renewed determination to make every day count for good and never to give in to self-pity. If she can do that after all she's been through, so can I!!

I love all of you guys SO MUCH.

Morgan,
You are my hero, little champion! You have put up such a great fight through everything. Your life will always be an inspiration to me and everyone else in our family. Never forget what an amazing Mom and Dad you have. I am so proud to be your aunt! I know you know it--but God is taking care of you every single day.

I think this chorus from a song is an example of a good attitude for us all to have through this trial:

So I wanna say thank you
Cause it...
Makes me that much stronger
Makes me work a little bit harder
Makes me that much wiser
So thanks for making me a FIGHTER...
Made me learn a little bit faster
Made my skin a little bit thicker
Makes me that much smarter
So thanks for making me a FIGHTER!!

In the end you'll see, You won't STOP ME!!!
I AM A FIGHTER!

Because He Smiles,

Dear Team Randel,
This wasn't the way I would have hoped to hear from you, but then, we can't make our lives come out exactly like we want. God always seems to have other plans. So first of all, let me say congratulations to you on the addition of little Marlee to your family! What a blessing to have two very beautiful girls! I'm so sorry to hear that Morgan is sick, but I'm very impressed and encouraged by the strength and courage both she and you are showing. It just shows that God can and will give you the ability to endure anything with His help!

Please forgive me for not writing here sooner, I know my husband and friend beat me to it (I'll remember to correct Heidi that it's KSU, not KU). :-) But this isn't a race, and I wanted to find a poem for you that my great aunt wrote. I've always found comfort in her poems. So I dug out her books that were still packed in the garage and this is what I found. I don't think I could express my prayer for you any better than this:

Prayer for a Friend

May God’s love enfold you all the day long.
May His wisdom fill your heart.
May you know the joy of a faith serene,
And to others that joy impart.

May God’s peace be with you at eventide.
May His presence seem very near.
May you entrust to Him your very life,
And all that you hold dear.

May God’s mercy shine through all your hours.
May His blessings on you descend.
May you know I wish only the best for you.
This is the prayer of your friend.

-Pauline Wilkerson

I'm so glad that Morgan is doing better now! We'll continue to pray for both her and you as she continues her fight. It's nice to hear that she understands the message from VeggieTales, that God is with her. As I was reading through the journal entries and writing this, Jacob has been bringing me video after video to play for him. (Larry-Boy and Zidgel the Penguin are his personal favorites!) I've been cherishing the time I have with Jacob a little more lately as the trials Morgan and you are going through, and also the unfortunate disaster today of the Space Shuttle, have really brought home how special each day is! I know you'll have your bad days, but stay strong in your faith in God and you'll be ok.

Hello from Bob the Tomato, Larry the Cucumber and all their Veggie buddies! We heard that you were in the hospital and were not feeling well. So, we decided to drop you a little note and hopefully bring you some VeggieTales smiles.

Junior, who is small and smart and has a big heart, wanted to relay to you that, "We don’t have to be afraid, because God is always looking out for us."

We hope you'll be feeling better really soon. Bob, Larry, and all the Veggies send you a great BIG hug! Remember, “God made You special and He loves you very much.”

Team Randel:
Your signature speaks volumes! Your "team" has been through a lot and probably has a lot more to go through. After reading the guest book entries and journal entries, it's obvious that your team is getting bigger and stronger with prayers. I have to get back to work sometime today, but I wanted to say a couple things first.
In my volunteer work over the years I have worked with St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital for fund raisers. Through this work I have met hospital administrators, care-givers and adult survivors of childhood leukemia. They are all incredible people with touching stories. It sounds like you have been blessed to have come in contact with similar people at your Children's Hospital. It made me smile and brought tears to my eyes to read some of your journal entries about Morgan and the doctors and nurses.
I'm so glad things are going better for Morgan now.
Your family's story and the verse that you were going to frame about spending more time with your children have touched me deeply. Every night that I get to hold Jacob and sing to him before I put him in his crib, I will hold him a little longer and a little tighter and say a prayer for your family.
Thank you for having the strength to share and the strength to ask for help and prayers. You will definitely be in our prayers.
May God continue to bless your family!

Dear Team Randal:
I learned of Morgan's illness through a friend of a friend of yours. Your website is a real inspiration. I myself was diagnosed with C(chronic)ML nearly 14 years ago. At that time it was considered terminal, but by the grace of God and the power of love and prayer, I'm still around and have been able to work full time in church ministry all these years. Nearly three years ago I developed a "fatal" brain virus, but again God had other plans. I will pass Morgan's name on to the Sisters and to the people in my parish so they can pray for her and for you. God does work miracles for those who believe. Morgan seems to be such a special little girl and so very loved, she must truly be very special to her God and Creator, who loves her more than we can imagine.

Dear Laurie, Tony, Morgan and Marlee,
I just finished reading the guest book entries and have been thanking God for the most wonderful support you are receiving. We are so thankful that God is providing for you the strength and courage that all of you are exhibiting, especially that precious Morgan.
Ps. 5:3 Morning by morning, O Lord, You hear my voice
Morning by morning, I lay my request before You
And wait in expectation.
One of my favorite Scriptures that has served me well is
Heb. 13:5...God has said, "Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you." ... And, He has asked us to cast our burdens upon Him. (1 Pet. 5:7)
I just wish I could hold all of you in my arms and make that nighmare go away. We love all of you dearly.
Start each day by asking God to take control.

"Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal."
II Corinthians 2:16-18

What Cancer Cannot Do

Cancer is so limited..
It cannot cripple love
It cannot shatter hope
It cannot corrode faith
It cannot eat away peace
It cannot destroy confidence
It cannot kill friendship
It cannot shut out memories
It cannot silence courage
It cannot invade the Soul
It cannot reduce eternal life
It cannot quench the Spirit
It cannot lessen the power
of the Resurrection.

Dear Toni and Laurie,

I pray to God to give you both the strength you need to get through each day and to heal your little girl. I can not even begin to imagine how you feel or what you are going through. When I think of what you are going through, I think of this song that the priest sang at my first son's Christening - these were the words - "One day at a time, sweet Jesus, is all I'm asking of you, just give me the strength, each day to do, what I have to do."

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your story with me. It has helped me to be a better person and it has helped me see things more clearly in my own little world. For that, I thank you.

I am praying for you. Please keep sharing Morgan's progess with me.

Dear Tony and Laurie, (I wrote one message but it didn’t seem to go through so am writing again.)

We used to live in Abilene and new the Bradshaws at Minter Lane. We are very concerned about Morgan (I think she looks like Larry.) who is darling. We really appreciate the web site which is very easy to use and handy to keep up to date about her progress. She is on our bulletin prayer list and we are glad to hear about every little progress she makes. You are in our prayers not only for her healing, but for your medical cost provision. God is able to take care of our every need - He owns the cattle on a thousand hills - and in reality the whole world. May you continue to see His hand of mercy in every direction you look. Praise to Him who wants to be asked and who wants to be praise.

Dear Randels:

I read this quote several days ago and thought I should share it with you.

Never run from suffering, but bear it silently, patiently, and submissively, with the assurance that it is God’s way of instilling iron into your spiritual life. The world is looking for iron leaders, iron armies, iron tendons, and muscles of steel. But God is looking for iron saints, and since there is no way to impart iron into his people’s moral nature except by letting them suffer, He allows them to suffer. F. B. Meyer

We're so glad to hear of Morgan's improvements! Keep focusing on her Creator!

Hi Tony and Laurie - Your updates on Morgan are greatly appreciated! It's probably good therapy for you, too, to write every chance you get. One thought I had that may give a little perspective..... When our girls were facing a very serious spine surgery, Dennis and I told them that it was okay to be afraid, because fear produces courage when it is faced head on. Yes, Morgan is most courageous - And I think you fall into that category, too, facing the difficult task of watching her go thru treatment. Jesus will give you the strength to face that fear and to cope. I am praying for all the family. Take good care of yourselves during this time, too. Love to you.

Our dear Laurie and Tony, This web site is a great idea. We will now check it very often. How can we tell you how much we have grieved for you. We know all too well the pain. Though our daughter, Jennie, has been older as she has struggled with a very aggressive breast cancer, it has been one of the most difficult struggles of our lives as her Mom and Dad. But you are experiencing, as we have, how God brings you through such trials. The surrounding of prayers for the one you love is an encouragement unexplainable in words. May you know we pray fervently and constantly for your precious little Morgan and for all of your family. Hang on in faith and our Lord truly will sustain you. Laurie, you have always been so special to us and now your family as well. We love you dearly.
