I'm so glad you are having a good summer. I looked at the pictures...I love the ones of Carlie! And...I love the bench. It turned out beautifully. Now I have a question, what is wrong with Stanley's ears? I've never seen a dog with ear supports. :-)

Is there any guess at all as to why I love this woman so much. Her generosity as a mother, wife and friend still amazes me, even after all she/we have gone through. You are truly the love of my life and the perfect mother for all our children even though we are missing the most spunky one of all.

Love you more than words... see you soon, ME

Charon,

I'm so sorry about Rocco. We just lost our dog, Rosco, not long ago. It's so unfair that our children have to experience so much loss. We ended up getting another dog, Suzie Q. She is so much fun for all of us.

Wishing you a Happier New Year.

Mark, Charon, and family: Just wanted to let you know that our son Raymond is participating in a head shaving for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, which supports funding and fellowships for chidlhood cancer research. The child he is honoring is a 12 year old boy with NB; Raymond was motivated by Carlie's story, and so chose his honoree carefully. Raymond just turned 12, and is in middle school, so going hairless will be a challenge on the bus and in the classroom, but he knows that children who lose their hair as a part of cancer treatment don't have a choice. We just wanted you to know that we think of you often, and that Carlie's memory is a positive and motivating one!

Well Carlie...its been a year since you left us. We all miss you very much, but we also know that you are in a place with no pain. We know, that in your way, you have an eye on each and everyone of us. We also know, that the place you are at, you have it under complete control. You are going to meet a stranger soon. Time is strange. One year is a terribly long time to go without someone you love being there. And yet one year is a very short time-- how could it be a year already? Oddly enough time does begin to heal wounds. By walking through all the pain, the crushing emotions begin to smooth out around the edges and somehow that lifts a bit of the weight. We send our loving thoughts and prayers of comfort today to you and all who loved Carlie.

Mark, Charon & Anthony,
Today's journal entry is so incredibly beautiful - just like your precious angel Carlie. I've been thinking about your family all day - wondering what and how you all were doing - and praying for God's comfort to surround you. Charon, Alison Henderson called me from the grocery store where I guess she had run into you today. It meant a lot to her to see you today. Our girls may only have been in dance class with Carlie for a year, but that sweet, sweet girl and her amazing mother and family left a lasting imprint on our hearts. We love you all and are with you in spirit this evening. Enjoy those mozzarella sticks... ;-)

I have thought about you many times this holiday season and knew how very difficult this first Christmas without Carlie would be. I was glad to know that you were able to get away and have a wonderful time on your trip and enjoy each other and friends. My wish for you all this new year is for you to continue stepping forward each day - one day at a time and to continue to put all your trust and faith in the Lord. HE knows the pain in the loss of a beloved child and will be with you every step of the path that you take. May 2009 be filled with much hope, joy, and happiness for your family.

Charon and Mark,
Here is "A Prayer for Comfort at Christmas" which I found so helpful:
God of comfort and hope, during this season of nostalgia and tradition, the memory of our dearly departed loved one is expecially painful. Reminders of that hollow place in our hearts where she once lived catch us at every turn--the trimming of the tree, the baking of cookies, the giving and receiving of gifts. Help us to embrace that pain as a proof that love was real and strong. And ease our pain in the reminder that she, hidden from our sight, now sings Christmas songs to you in heavenly glory. In the name of that precious Babe of Bethlehem--Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
