Madeleine, Allison asks about you every single day for you to come back to class and to come over here for another play day. Have your Mommy send me a message when you are ready to spend some time over here again and play with Allison and Lauren. You are constantly in our prayers and our thoughts. Hope you get to feeling better and make it back to class after spring break.

HI Madeleine,
What adorable pictures of you! The dogs are pretty cute, too! I've had several poodles from standard to toy.

Here's a poodle story for you: When I was little we lived in a house that had a refrigerator on a wall with two doorways on either side. So, the refrigerator was in an open space. Anyway, Christopher, our big white standard poodle, liked to sit next to the refrigerator and sorta lean against it. Very sloooooowly, the refrigerator would inch sideways with the dog still leaning until PLOP, there was nothing to lean on and Christopher would fall over on the floor. Of course, he didn't get hurt. We always got a good laugh out of that!

The Preschool Pen Pals will send you an Easter card soon.

love and prayers

Hi Madeleine-You are too precious! We have Bichon, but I love poodles! Her nickname is "Poodle". I would love to have a black poodle like the one you have. My girls think we have our hands full with our very spoiled little pooch, but I think she needs a sister! I love to read your funny quotes. I hope you are feeling better soon and home with your poodle.

Today started out very different from the way yesterday ended. It went from Mom you are the best Mom in the whole world to up at 3:00 a.m. hungry and nothing pleased her, and pull me in the wagon, nowwwwwww! The rooms on the floor are in sort of a circle and she calls it the hockey rink. So she will say pull me once around the hockey rink. Of course it goes to again and again. So hello steroids do your job and give us back our Madeleine.

Hi Madeleine,
Hey I know kinda what you are putting up with, I did it myself a long time ago. Same yuck disease. I had a cocker spaniel then she was pretty good to hang out with.

Doctors and hospitals get old don't they? I especially didn't like it when they wanted some tests so I learned if I looked the other way, help my breath and bit my tongue (not too hard) it didn't hurt so much when they drew my blood. And the medicine really makes you tired sometimes, sometimes you feel okay.

I live on a small farm and we have 4 llamas. My next door neighbor has horses and one is a really pretty pony. My grandaughter likes to brush her hair (I can send you a picture) My other neighbor has 12 camels (yes camels!) and 5 zebras! Imagine that in Texas - I think they got lost and took the wrong exit.

Well you hang in there and keep putting up with all those things doctors have to do to you. One day I just got better and I hope you do to.

It was a good Day!! Madeleine did her first sit-up ever. Well, actually she did 3 different ones. She is given a test everytime we go to clinic and she has not ever been able to do a sit-up. She popped right up this morning and we were all screaming including Madeleine. It doesn't take much for us to get excited. We will take anything, but this was big today.

Before starting her meds she enjoyed the playroom including having a dance party with Kim from Child Life.
I pray for more day's like today. She was happy all day and so sweet. Tomorrow the steriods will settle in so we must remember today.

Good Night My Little Chick A Dee
I love you

Hi, Madeleine! My name is Sydney Kavanaugh. I am 7 1/2 years old. I was diagnosed with JDM at the age of 3 1/2. I live in Kimball, Michigan, about an hour north of Detroit. I don't like getting the iv's or having to take the medicine. It tastes horrible, yuck! Right now I am doing great. I just swam about 4 laps at the pool without a life jacket. I have never been able to do that before. I hope we could email each other, my mom says it is ok. Take care, Sydney (my mom typed this for me)

Hi Connie & Madeleine,
What a wonderful webpage! My daughter, Rachel, was diagnosed with JDM in May '04 when she was 3-1/2. It took the doctors almost 2 years to diagnose her. She's on prednisone and diltiazem for her calcifications. I'm so glad you found the CureJM website - what a help and comfort it has been being able to talk with other families going through the same things we are. It's scary and I don't wish this on anyone else - I keep praying a cure is found so we can take all the pain away from our children.
Hugs and laughs,
Michelle and Rachel (JDM - 4-1/2)

Hi Madeleine,

I enjoyed reading your journal, and seeing the very cute pictures. My son, Parker, is 6 years old and also has Juvenile Dermatomyositis. We hope you are feeling okay. Parker also loves UNO...which I noticed you were playing in one of the pictures! We have a foundation that we started to fund research to find a cure and better treatment for you and the other children suffering from JDM. We also provide support for the families. Is it okay if we link to your website from ours? Our website is www.curejm.com

Hello Madeleine!

I think your website is just WONDERFUL! I really like the picture of you in the chef's hat and with that pretty white poodle! (It is a poodle isn't it?)

My Granddaughter, Amanda, also has JDM. She is 13 years old now and lives in Colorado. She is doing much better and sends her good wishes to you.

Have you seen the pictures on the website at www.curejm.com ? There is a picture page where you can see lots of other kids with JDM and read their short stories about what they like to do for fun. Some of them are pretty interesting.

Be happy!

Bonjour Madeleine ;)

That MMQ made me laugh so much haha! That's too funny ;) I know how steroids make you hungry... it's crazy! Actually we are lucky, us Crohnnies, because we do have a kind of steroid that doesn't give you side effects (or they are very little if you do have some). It's called Entocort and it's absorbed in the ileum (last past of your small intestine) so only 10% of the med actually goes through your bloodstream, that's why you don't have side effects. Unfortunately, it works only for ileum involvement and for a mild activity of the disease. I tried it once, and though I did not have side effect, it didn't work as much as the *evil* Prednisone (or Medrol)! Too bad! When I get out of college, with all the chem an bio classes I will have endured (smiles), I'll try to elaborate a side-effect-less type of Pred ;-)

Have a nice day!

Today Madeleine had a wonderful day. Clinic visit went ok with no changes. She was upstairs and her medicine started by 1:30 p.m. Madeleine of course had to help get it all hooked up and was so happy it didn't hurt and burn like it usually does. She was singing praises for the picc line. When the 10 minute buzzer went off she got so excited she threw her chicken across her bed as we celebrated. She got it all disconnected and was out and about talking to the nurses and checking out everything that was going on. They are to hook up the IVig at 7:30 and she can sleep through most of it. Usually the second and third day of steroids really wear on her. We are hoping that since she did so well today maybe she will have a good day tomorrow.

We met a very special family just as we left the lab this morning. Their older daughter has the same thing as Madeleine and they also live in Mansfield. What a small world for such a rare disease. Connie has talked to them before but had not been able to meet them. It was so nice to visit while waiting today. Megan is doing really well. She has been treated for almost 4 years. We felt so good after meeting this special little girl of 7 and her wonderful family. It is so nice to see someone who is a success story. Way to go Megan!!

Connie will give you more details when she gets home. We hope everyone has a good night.

Good Night my little Chick A Dee, sleep well!!

Madeleine,

I had fun watching you take pictures on Monday in Child Life with your buddy Cinda (and I loved your frog outfit)! :) That was so funny when the Uno cards kept coming out so fast and you got so close that they hit you in the face! I just want you to know that I am praying for you and you are the bravest and smartest 5 year-old I know.
Have a great day,
Heather

So happy to hear the PICC line insertion went pretty smoothly, except of course for the throwing up. When I had a PICC line put in a few years ago, I ended up having a very bad allergic reaction to a dye they used to see my veins better and that did NOT leave me with happy memories of the procedure. But, after that was over, I was very glad to have my PICC there to make things easier for me. And I'm sure you'll get used to it quickly and be happy it's there, too!

She’s def. a little trooper! Well I just wanted to say hello, since I haven’t signed the GB for a while because of my computer.

Oh' What a Day!!

I hate this disease and all that goes with it. The Doctors today didn't sugar coat anything. Gave it to us straight up. We didn't like what we heard but at least it was the hard truth. Our baby is not in great shape, I will let Connie go into detail after they get home Wednesday night. It may be quite late by the time they get home due to the time she got started today. If anything could go wrong with getting an IV started it did. It was finally started after 5 tries and 3 people trying. Veins were blowing every which way. Poor baby, Connie and I were looking at each other to see which one was going to say enough is enough first. Madeleine was the biggest girl, not happy at all but once it was in she went strutting down to child life with her arm raised high telling them all I got it, its finally in.

God Bless her, she has the best attitude. It hasn't taken more than one stick ever before. I felt so sad for her I cried all the way home tonight. I wish I could take it for her and she could just be a little girl. Hoping the next two days will be better. Please keep our Madeleine in your prayers.

You are special and VERY unique! God even knows at this moment how many hairs you have on your head. Did you know that? God never sleeps...He is always there for you. So...keep looking up for His love, strength, peace, and healing. You have SO many people around you that love you dearly..please remember that! You are an awesome little girl. We love you....and think of you all the time. God has a purpose for this hardship....a plan....even though we don't understand and can't accept it. So many of your friends and family are so proud of you. You are so brave! Even though your body is weak at times, your heart and mind and will are so very strong. We are praying for you sweet girl! Madeleine has had a pretty good day. They have added some meds for her stomach so we hope that will help. Clinic went smoothly. Dr.P said her MRI showed a lot of inflamation in the muscles from hips down. She has slipped downhill from her last MRI, so we are back to getting her IV steroids for 3 days and her IVIG for 2 days every other week. We pray this will kick start her again.

Madeleine has really been busy today. Besides getting 8 hrs and 40 minutes of medicine. She has colored, painted, played polly's, played bingo, played games and made us put on tiara's, listened to stories, watched a movie and took care of her IV. She was such a sweet girl. But,I would probably tell you that on any given day.

Thank you for reading and leaving messages for her. She loves for us to read them over and over to her.

Have a wonderful weekend, Connie and Madeleine will be home Sunday evening.

Love to you all,
Granny or as Madeleine would say Gran

Dear Madeleine,

Sending you a belated Happy New Year...but is is still January! I was very busy over the Christmas and New Year's Holiday with family and friends. I had a lot of fun, and it looks like you did too. The tree in the Hotel is beautiful, but not quite as pretty as you. I wonder what goodies you whipped up with that chef...

You Mom sent me a very kind note thanking me and the Biotherm Team. It made me happy that all enjoyed the goodies. We girls love those beauty products.

Just got back in from Central Park, where it looks like a Winter Wonderland,as we got just a little bit of snow this morning and more to come tonight.

I couldn't believe that Standard Poodles are your favorite. They are mine ,too, and maybe one day I will get one. My best friend has 3...they are a Poodle Family! They are truly the smartest dogs (proven) and have wonderful personalities. I love watching them jump... they are so graceful.

Well, I need to get going to do some things in the house. Wanted you to know that I think of you often. Sending you "poodle" kisses and hugs,
Margaret M.

Oh Madeleine,

I just Mommy's posting and I'm sitting here with Jaffie smiling. I remember the first time Sam's wishgranters came to visit him. What an exciting day that was!

I loved reading about the wonderful day you had with Mikaela & Malina (sorry if I've mispelled their lovely names.) And I can't wait to see a picture of you and the life size doll they brought. Your Mommy is right about one thing.....those Make a Wish girls can make dreams come true.

We're looking forward to updates on your wish as they unfold.

William, UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!! That is simply incredible news. Way to go!

Have a great weekend and come over and play soon.....the boys miss you.

Dear Madeleine,
Congratulations on getting through the MRI and eye exam beautifully. I hate having my eyes examined, did they give you the dye that makes your tears glow yellow? That's my favorite part because my eye boggers get all yellow and gross and that's funny. Please give Brianna a big hug for me next time you see her and tell her that a lot of people are also wishing for her speedy recovery.

And by the way, we took a poll, you have the best mom in the world. It's hard to remember that when you're hurting or angry or sad, but don't forget to tell her that every single day.

XOXO,

I know because it brings back memories of mine! I'll tell you about it sometime! I love you baby (I know you're not a baby, but you are my little baby!!).

Connie, I will. Thanks. I can't wait to hear all about your meeting. I'll try to call Sunday and see how it went. I've got so much to tell you...it's crazy!!!

Hello My Sweet Madeleine!

Have I been in a como or what? I feel like I've missed a week of your life and antics. I should know better than to miss a day reading your journal.

I'm sooooo excited to learn about Mikaela being one of your Wish Grantors. That happens to be incredible. I'm also so touched that she got involved after reading about Sam's beautiful experience. I know she'll make you proud and create the most spectacular wish there ever was.

Mikaela, thank you from the bottom of my heart for following Miss M and getting involved with Make a Wish as well as Heroes. Jenny and I had the best meeting ever today with regards to Heroes and you have definitely chosen an awesome organization to participate in. You're not gonna believe how Heroes is going to grow this year. Whew!

Madeleine darling, please do me a huge favor.....let you mommy and daddy get some sleep. You know how cranky you are if you don't get a good night's sleep? Well, guess what....same thing for your parents. They want to be the best parents ever but can't do that without sleep. Even if you can't sleep in your own bed, please help them to sleep in theirs.

I love you baby and hope tomorrow is a better day. I can't wait to hear about your special wish coming true.

xxoo,

Auntie Dana

Hey girl! We just wrote you a long note and I am not sure that it was posted. Catherine and I miss you. She is currently coloring pictures that she had me draw of you girls at TSRH and of you girls at school. We are sorry to hear that you are so weak and hope that you feel stronger real soon. We hope to see you at school and maybe even for a playdate next week (or as soon as you are up to it.........we will drop everything at a moments notice for a long awaited playdate with you!). You are (as always) in our thoughts and prayers. See you soon cutie!

Hey Girl! Sorry to hear that you have been feeling so weak. We hope that you feel better real soon and that we will soon see you at school and for a playdate. Catherine can not stop talking about you. She had me draw a picture of she and I visiting you at TSRH and a picture of you and Catherine. She is sitting on my bed coloring them and cannot decide whether to give them to you at our next playdate (AS SOON AS YOU ARE up to it....we will drop everything at a moments notice!) or when we see you at the hospital (Catherine wants to come visit you again :) ). You were dearly missed this week at school and are (as always) in our thoughts and prayers. Hope you and Willy are staying warm and that you are having fun with all the wonderful things that Santa brought you! Have a great weekend! Hope to see you next week! (Catherine just came up to me with the great idea of making a books worth of pictures about fun stuff you girls do at school and about what you girls did when we came to visit.) Catherine really loves you and misses you. See you soon cutie!

Dear Miss M,

Sam and I are lying in bed looking at your website tonight and it's 11:28pm. I wonder if my little man will ever drift off to sleep? I hope you're already there dreaming about little Willy and his silly antics.

We wanted to wish you lots of luck this week with IVIG. It's an easy drug for Sam and hopefully for you as well. It will hopefully boost your immune system and make you feel more full of energy.

Some people have skin reactions, so tell you mom to be watching for any redness in your face. Some people are also premedicated with Tylenol and/or Benadryl. Sam hasn't needed either but you never know.

We hope you have a pain free week and we'll be thinking about you constantly.

All our love,

Dana & Sammy

Hey Gals,

I am so glad that you had a good new years eve. I know that 2004 was hard but you have been one of the biggest blessings of the whole year! I don't know where I'd be without the love and support you've shown me since the moment we met. I can't believe it was only the second day volunteering and I met some of my dearest friends. 2005 will bring us much love and happiness and we'll make it through the fight together!

Much love as always,
Jenn

Hi Connie and Madeleine!
Glad you found the earring! What a story! I'm sorry we did not get to visit over the holidays. I hope that the new RX in January will really make a world of difference for you Madeleine. Catherine can't wait to see you at school and we would love to play soon (the girls were sick over Christmas and are aching for a playdate). Catherine and I are constantly giggling at silly Lilly now that she is up and running! I hope that you and your family had a nice Christmas and that 2005 is full of answers, solutions, joy, love and everything that is wonderful! Let's set a date for the girls. I'll give you a ring soon!
Take care!
Love,

Dear Madeleine,
Allison and Lauren had such a great time when you came over for your play day. When we sat down for dinner tonight, we said our prayers, and made a special toast for the New Year. Everyone in our family had a chance to make a special request for 2005. Allison's request was that "her friend Madeleine" would get better. Just wanted to let you know. Hugs and kisses.

Hi Madeleine,
Reading your journal made me very hungry for cookies, so I made some madeleine cookies the other night: regular madeleines, madeleines with chocolate chips, and mini madeleines. They are so yummy. I made a whole bunch so I can share them with friends.

It sounds like you got some really fabulous loot for Christmas. I hope you and your family will have a great and healthier new year!

I loved the pictures of you making "your" cookies! Were they tasty? Thank Mommy for sharing the pictures and all the news about you and the Cool Whip and all that stuff. (If you give the dog chocolate Cool Whip, it won't show up on his fur so much.)
Did you get snow for Christmas? I know that some places in Texas had snow this year. We *always* have snow, but this year--nothing! Let me know if you need to borrow a sled sometime.
Give Mommy a huge hug from me, please. And take one for yourself.

Madeleine! The New Hampshire Chapter of the Extremely Official Madeleine Fan Club wishes you a Very Merry Second Day After Christmas & a Happy New Year! You look fabulous in your latest photos (as usual!) & from the looks of it, you would make a swell firefighter or chef (or maybe a cookie-baking firefighter?). We were bummed for you about the tough time you had with with the MRI - Alex, one of the charter members of the NHCEOMFC, has had MRIs before AND he's had to take methotrexate, too, & he agrees that neither thing is any fun at all. He highly recommends cuddling with a sweet little pooch or other cozy buddy to help you afterward. Max, the head of the Doggie Division of the NHCEOMFC doesn't understand what an MRI is at all, but sends a big old doggy smooch anyway. Bill, Ted, Socrates & The Kitten (Max's kitty sisters) are mad that we let dogs be in the fan club, & are busy plotting a way to either kick their brother out or form their own separate club. We'll see what happens. Hugs & Kisses from The NHCEOMFC

My Darling Miss M,

How can I express how fabulous our visit with you was? The boys had such a blast. As a matter of fact, today at 5pm when I suggested we invite someone over for a playdate and mentioned one of the kids in the neighborhood, they both said, "How about Madeleine?" I had to explain that you lived pretty far away and that you could come and play one day next week.

School is out for the next 2 weeks, so if your mom wants a break, tell her to drop you off in Dallas.

We love you and had so much fun with your this week. Stay strong, my darling!

Lighting the tree on Tuesday and then birthday on Wednesday, that sounds really awesome. Your dress also sounds adorable, not everybody can carry off green and red polka dots like you can. And the Hello Kitty cake, wow, I didn't realize they had those, I'll have to ask for one for my birthday. Connie,

Your post tonight made me smile and filled my heart with joy. I'm so glad for so many things that Miss M was able to experience on this trip to TSRH.

I loved hearing how all the nurses looked so lovely with beautiful lips thanks to Biotherm.

I loved hearing about Santa visiting Miss M in her room.

I loved hearing about Madeleine being on tv tonight.

I loved hearing about all the wonderful and special events that occupied her mind the last couple of days.

TSRH sounds like such a godsend.

I guess I just loved hearing your words about your daughter. Memories you'll never forget in your lifetime.
Memories Madeleine will never forget in her lifetime.

Be grateful for all that you have daily as I know you do.

Madeleine Super Star and Connie,

The Thanksgiving journal entry made me cry. I am so excited that Biotherm sent all those wonderful products. Just proves once again that old, true friends are priceless - all I did was ask Margaret Sharkey (an old, true friend) to visit Madeleine's website and now you have all those goodies for the nurses and the staff!

Madeleine, I'm so glad you liked your parade. Isn't it nice of Macy's to do all that for you?!! I wish I could have seen you bellydance. But most of all, I wish for you to get better and all of your family and friends to stay healthy and be happy.

Hello Miss Madeleine! I'm so happy to make your aquaintance. Your teacher, Mrs. Klimek, told her mom all about you, and her mom called me. I've know Mrs. Klimek since she was a little girl and love her very much. Give her a big hug for me when you see her next time!

I just love your web site. I wish I could have gone to the movies with you! I know things are tough right now, but you are such a beautiful, brave little girl, and everyone loves you so much! Just keep hanging on to that. I'll keep you in my prayers.

Talk to you later!

My dearest Madeleine...Thank you so much for the beautiful beaded necklace with my name on it that you made for me! I will wear it always and think of you. The beads hang directly over my heart...just where you are always. I hope that you have a wonderful Thanksgiving (I know it's your favorite holiday!) My blessings are with you and your family during this special time of year...

Hi Darling Miss M,

I'm so happy to hear you were able to go to school all three days last week. I'd love to hear all about Sponge Bob as well. I think I'll take Ethan this week. You really liked it, huh? Great!

Glad that Gripe Water helps when your little tummy hurts. Sam and Ethan both take it when theirs hurt also.

Can't wait to see your beautiful picture in the new calendar. You're such a super star!

Be sweet this week and take good care of your brothers!

Dear Madeleine,
Just got an email from Marlene Eskin and heard the good news about your "Wish" What a wonderful Thanksgiving treat.

Thanksgiving is my favorite Holiday, too, because it about being with the people we love most. I am so very grateful this year as I will be with 17 people including my Mom and Sisters and Brother and Nieces and Nephews. We are going to walk thru Central Park next Wednesday night to see all the Balloons being blown up for the Parade...and then the next morning off to the Parade! Let's hope the Sun is out and it is not toooo cold.

The Christmas Tree arrived in Rockefeller Center in New York City. It is from New Jersey this year and is quite beautiful. It is kind of flowy (is that a word) the branches drape beautifully almost like a dancer. When I passed by the other day, they were starting to put up the lights. Men and Women with HardHats and a very BIG LADDER.
They will be lighting the tree soon--I think the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Sometimes they have it on TV, maybe, you can see it in Texas.

Anyway, I just wanted you to know that I think of you often and that I send you lots of smiles and Happy Turkey.

PS..The week after Thanksgiving I am going to Paris for business. Do you know that they have a special sweet there called "Madeleine" It is not a cookie and not really a cake...it is a little bit of both...and it tastes delicious.
It has a fun shape too. Maybe one day you and your Mom will make some. I will try to buy one and have with Tea thinking of you!

We too had a blast at the fall harvest party! You were simply radiant with that gorgeous smile and upbeat attitude! As soon as we pulled in from the party, Catherine told me she had a tummy ache from eating too many sweets! I hope this was not the case for you. Catherine, Baby Lilly, and I loved seeing all the new pictures that your mom has posted. Hope you are feeling well! See you at school tomorrow and hope to have that play date soon!

Hi Princess Madeline, i'm sorry uve been feeling bad and having lots of pain. You must be so happy to have such a wonderful family to care for you. i know you've been trying to be patient when things arent working out and when your legs arent working the way you want them to and when beans are touching the rice...you're very mature for your age and i know you will try your level best to be even more patient with yourself and those who love you most. Hun, its ok to cry when you're in pain and to be in a bad mood when things arent going well, coz you always remember to smile afterwards and even apologize to mom..im so proud of you for apologizing to mom that was such a grownup thing you did. I know you must appreciate mom lots. she really does go the extra mile for you to make sure things are comfy and just the way you like them. Please give her a hug for me...and after you hug mum please ask mom to give you a hug for me as well...okay ?

Hey Madeleine :-)

I'm sure sorry to hear that you're feeling so yucky, I hope that a new day tomorrow brings back a little more energy for you.

I see you looking cute in your Dallas Stars uniform. o you or your mommy and daddy remember a Dallas Star named Brett Hull? Well, and there's no graceful way of saying this, but when my dad was a boy, he wet Brett's bed!! Long story, but how's THAT for a hockey claim to fame?!

Keep on staying cute :-

Hello My Darling M,

I'm so sorry you had a rough day. I feel really bad in my heart to hear about your pain. I hope you're able to sleep well tonight. I think a warm bath sounds really good, I wish I had the time to take one myself.

Sam & Ethan look on your website often and love all the beautiful pictures your mommy has posted. Try and be patient with your mommy, daddy and big brothers. Everyone loves you so incredibly much and just hates it when you feel bad.

I'll be in and out of town the remainder of the week, but maybe we can set up a playdate next week sometime with you and Sam. That would be a lot of fun!

Be a good girl, ok?

xxoo,

Auntie Dana & Sam

Dear Madeleine and Connie,
So glad to hear that you all had such a fun Halloween! We had a blast going to a few parties and trick or treating. Catherine was dressed as Tinkerbell and Lilly was our little princess (her bear costume was to hot for her to wear). We were thinking about coming out to the hospital tomorrow after Stretch n grow (probably leave Mansfield around 1:00). I will call you to make sure that this is ok and to see what you and Princess Madeleine would like for us to bring. Hope all is well. Hang in there and keep sharing that BEAUTIFUL smile Madeleine! This is Aunt Mary and Torrie. We have just gotten through with her homework and we are going to fix her costume for school tomorrow. She is going to be a Princess. Madeleine,
I just wanted to tell you that we will be home soon. We get on the plane tomorrow night and Friday morning, we are home. We have had a really fun time but we miss you so so much. I can't wait to get a great big hug from you. Do you have any hugs left? I am so happy that you made it to school and dance. I know you had a lot of fun with your friends.

I was so sad to hear that Brianna has been in Children's, I hope she is out soon. Maybe we will see her next week.

Tell our house guest, Sir Andrew to get his mess cleaned up before we get there. I have heard from a little birdie that he has been doing a really super job taking care of everything. Did you get Dad to clean up his mess with that sink? It looked interesting in the picture with you standing in place of the sink. (Ha)
See you soon.

*doing pirouettes around my computer* im ecstatic that Madeline had 2 great days in a row.Its not suprising that after having a full day of activities on Tuesday that she needed to take things a lil' slow on wednesday.i am in awe that she wanted to go to school even after all the activities.no worries..im hoping that Princess Madeline will be up & ready again for dance & lil' dolphins next week. before i go on....HIP HIP HOORAY for Madeline ! *singing* for she's a jolly good fellow (hey what's the feminine version of this?) for she's a jolly good princess for taking her meds like the trooper she is :o) I hope Lil'Willie didnt "cry" at the sight of the injection. then again im sure he didnt because Madeline was right there comforting him..what a gal ! Connie I have to apologise !!! i didnt know you were married to Terry (Sorry Terry!) looking thru my puter's window (monitor) i really see so little at times..only the small picture...i'm so glad that all 3 of u enjoyed TRSH...am i really a ray of sunshine ? *blush* hey Madeline is royalty u know *wink* i mean look at Madeline "slaying" zyrtec the dragon (banana-grape - ewwww..that's one nasty dragon..definitely needed slaying :o) Hugs & Sweet Sleep Princess Madeline, Queen Mom, King Dad & who can forget Prince Willie :o)

Hi Madeline. Im sorry you had a tuff nite hun.Thank God u have mum who is ever ready to lather your legs with sweet smelling lotion & watch PBS with u. I am hoping & praying that u get better real soon. You're such a mature princess that I was quite surprised to read that you would rather get a shot than take zyrtec.please take your medicine Madeline (even though it prolly taste gross) cause you have admirers all around the world (me included) waiting for you to get well & the zyrtec and the rest of the medicines etc are suppose to help you get well. As you are a princess living in a "castle"(bed) just imagine the zyrtec to be a dragon who needs to be slayed..and the only way to slay that zyrtec-dragon is to swallow him up.You are such a trooper and I have absolute confidence in you "slaying" Zyrtec the dragon Madeline. We are all rooting & cheering for you (wish u could see me with my pom poms and all :o).Hugs to you Connie, You're simply i.n.c.r.e.d.i.b.l.e ! i cant find any other word to describe you. Hugs & God Bless.

Hi Madeleine, I hope you get a restful sleep tonight. I think of you often. Just some info: my gyne told me that if I wanted remission from Rheumatoid Arthritis, I should get pregnant. God apparently takes convenient care of mothers and the RA is gone for 9 months. Drs have been working on the link to the right hormone for years. For this reason I believe the cures will be found through embriotic stem cell research. I intend to vote for John Kerry and continue to pray for the cure. Madeleine, why don't you like taking your medicine. It will make you feel better. Hope to see you in January. Lynn

You're being so so great doing all you can for Madeline and its tiring enuff for parents caring for a child what more when you're pretty much doing it single handedly..Kudos to you ! It's gonna be fine... trust me. I know things are hard for you and Madeleine, but they WILL get better...and REMISSION DOES HAPPEN... look at ME! Keep her in school as much as possible. She needs it! Talk to those Pain Managment Docs at TSRHC... they can help! There's no reason "the girl" should have to suffer in pain, there are things out there to help... I know, I take them. hehehe... Call those docs and let them hear her cry and maybe then they'll listen better!

Hi Madeleine Super Star,

I was so impressed reading what your mom said about you speaking to all those people. I would have been scared, but not brave Madeleine!

My dog Taylor wants to get in this dog club that you and Stephie are starting. She loves meeting new dogs and I think Max and Little Willie would like her. Of course, she won't leave the house without her best friends, the cats Gypsy and Newby. So can it be a cat and dog club?

I'm going to keep reading about you because when I do, it makes me smile.

Please give your mom a big hug for me.

Oops - almost forgot! Max's older sisters Billy & Teddy, who happen to be cats, have asked if you wouldn't mind making a very, very alarmed face at Little Willie for them & then maybe puffing up your fur & hiding under the bed, but I've told them that's far too rude!

Madeleine, you rule that Teen Room! I bet that you're the gnarliest, most excellent patient the Teen Room has seen in a long time, by gummy. Your photos are gorgeous (please, could a photo of you be anything less than gorgeous? I think not!) & I'm happy to read that you're doing such a great job at being a patient, student AND pet owner (to say nothing of being an utterly fabulous chickie) throughout the tough times. You're the bee's knees & I hope you're as proud of yourself as your adoring fans are, toots!

PS My dog Max, who needs all the doggie friends he can get, would like you to give Little Willie a big fat smooch for him if you wouldn't mind.

Little Elvis? I think we need a picture of Little Elvis!

Madeleine is such a big girl for going to school AND dance lesson. Not to mention taking out her own IV, that's very brave. I'm always thinking of you, Madeleine, Connie, Dad, Andrew, William, Little Willie, and Little Elvis too. I probably missed some people and pets, but I'm thinking of them too whoever where ever they are.

Dear Madeleine: Your friend Jenni thinks about you all the time and hopes you're feeling okay. I think it's just wonderful what a big girl you are taking all of your medicine so well! I love that Madeleine smile of your's! You be sure to tell Granny, Wade, Mommy, Daddy, William and Andrew that I said hello! You give everyone a big hug for me and then make them all give you one from me! You keep smiling, little girl - Jenni misses you!

Hey Connie and Madeleine,

I hope that the rest of your pulsings went alright. I know they're tough. You're such a trooper (that's what my mommy always calls me!)

Connie, you have been such a blessing to me. I know you are always telling me how much I've helped you, but the fact is you've been just what I've always needed - someone who honestly knows what it's like. I will continue to be there for you and Madeleine. Also, I wasn't kidding, if you ever need to call me, do so and leave a long message if I'm not there! Whatever it takes! I love you so much and your family. Take good care of YOURSELF and Madeleine. You can't be there for her unless you are there for yourself first. Remember that!

Love you always,
Jenn

I am SO PROUD of you for taking out your own IV yesterday. There aren't too many grown ups who would be brave enough to do that. I hope you have a good weekend and I can't wait to see you again. Be sweet to your mom! She and your daddy both love you very much!

Jo Ann, I want those shoes too. I've been searching Austin for them ever since I saw Maddie's picture. Let me know if you find them in Louisiana.

Madeleine, they're gorgeous - almost as pretty as the smile on your face. Do you think maybe you'll tell us where to get shoes as pretty as that?

Dear Madeleine,

I read your journal and your guestbook everyday, and I look at your pictures too.

I've told a lot of people about you (you're a very famous star in a very special world! Can I call you Madeline Super Star?), and am glad some of them have left messages for you. It makes me feel good to have such nice friends - and I like hearing about your nice friends, Brianna and Sam - and Andrew and Little Willie and William and your dad and your mom.

For a long time I had to take some of the same medicines you take, so I know how awful they make you feel and how they make you achy and grumpy. So I hope you feel better real soon.

I think of you a lot, so if your ears tingle maybe it's one of my thoughts trying to reach you. Listen real hard! And give your mommy a big hug and kiss for me.

Hi Madeleine,
Greetings from your long lost Auntie Sue. Though I have never met you, I have known your Mommie for a very long time and also both of your brothers. I love reading your Mommie's stories about what a brave little girl you are when you take MRI's and blood tests and all of those not very fun things. I also love the pictures of you and your Mommie and also the picture of you and William. Ask your Mommie to please put a picture of your "big car-driving brother" Andrew in the album. Maybe you can have another tea party and play dress up with him also. You really are a beautiful and well-loved little princess and I hope your pain goes far, far away. Tell your Mommie thanks for keeping me "in the loop" and also tell your Granny Mary "hello" from me. I hope to meet you in person very soon and tell you all about my dog Sheba and my cat Boo and my fish. Your Mommie told some good stories about your water-loving dog Little Willie. Hugs to you from Auntie Sue

Hi again, Miss Madeleine! I had a wonderful time playing baby and daughter (especially when I got to take a nap!), eating dinner with you and your family, watching cartoons (hee hee!) and going swimming with all of you. Please tell your Mom that I'll talk to her soon, tell your Granny she's the best. Also, if you don't mind, let William know I am indeed catching up on my reading so we can chat more, and warn Andrew that I intend to win the next time we play 13. I hope to be back up as soon as my roots get too gray, which won't take long.

As always, my favorite part of the visit was seeing you and your beautiful Mom. Your Dad's pretty cool, too, isn't he?

Dear Madeleine...I am sending you warm wishes and healing thoughts from St. Louis, Missouri. Your mom and I talked on the Internet a lot during the summer of 1999 when she was pregnant with you and I was pregnant with Erik, who's about three weeks younger than you. I remember how excited she was to know you were on the way and how very thrilled she, your dad, your brothers and all your family and friends were to welcome you when you arrived that December.

You are radiant! You've shown more strength and spirit at 4 3/4 than most adults display over a whole lifetime. You have so much heart, I know you will beat this thing with a big pink jeweled stick.

Sorry, but I must use your website for the following message...

William, you have my utmost permssion and encouragement to give your mom a really hard time for posting the tea party picture to the entire world. But frankly, it's sooooooo cute! By the way, was the picture taken in "the girl's" room? If so...."the girl's" got some goods! :)

Good luck with your upcoming tests sweet Madeleine. When Sam is home, you'll have to come over and have a tea party with him. You'll have to bring the entire tea party, however!

Dearest Madeleine,

I met you when you were only 1 year old so I don't imagine you remember. While the grown ups were talking up a storm in the food court, you were happily lounging in your stroller, smiling and wiggling your little feet. It made me wish I still fit in a stroller but, well, I'm just too big. And my kids would laugh at me 'cuz they do that a lot. I hope you are feeling better. Please give your Mom a hug for me and tell her I'm sending best wishes, thoughts and prayers your way.

Hi Madeline!
You are such a brave girl for going through with the MRI without moving a muscle, getting your blood taken (not many adults can do that as calmly as you), and going to school and ballet class, wow! Have you taught Little Willie any new tricks? And how do you eat so much food? You are the definition of "Grace under fire". Get better soon, I'm looking forward to seeing pictures from picture day at school.

Hi. I am a friend of your mom's friend, Damon. He sent me your picture and told me your story. I used to teach kids your age and still love to be with kids. Now I get to be with my almost 2 year old granddaughter. Once a friend who was three told me I seemed just her age and just her size. That was the best compliment I ever had because kids are the greatest. You have had to go through more things than most kids, but you still have a beautiful smile that shows your spirit. I will hold you and your mom in my heart.

Hi Sweetie. I love the picture of you on the opening page. Your hair is soooo long! I hear you are going to have your school picture taken next week--and that you are looking forward to it. I keep getting letters from my son's school saying Asher has to have his picture taken for the yearbook, but he won't let them take his picture. Of course, he isn't pretty like you, so maybe he just doesn't want to pose for pictures. Will you send me one of your pictures please?

I'm glad you are enjoying school. I bet you are the smartest kid in the class. Give Mommy a hug from me, please. Tell her that you probably need a few kittens to keep the dog company.

Hi, Madeleine!

How are you today? I heard you liked the poem I sent. I'm glad! Charly the kitten helped me a little bit by walking on the keyboard of my computer, but the words she typed looked like this:

gjkkdtypty;zdvbjlrdptjp[ytj;dahp[9s\=ettiy\0=4609ea[q3

I don't think that spells anything, do you? I sure couldn't think of anything to rhyme with it. But you know what they say ... it's the thought that counts! Charly just wanted to help.

Charly is sleeping on the floor next to my chair as I write this message. Did you know that cats sleep an average of 15 to 18 hours a day? I have many cute pictures of Charly and would love to email one to you so you can see what she looks like. Maybe your Mom can tell me how to send it.

Have a happy day and sweet dreams tonight!
Love, Andrea Eskin (& Charly & Teddy the cats)

Dear Madeleine,

We've never met, but I'm actually your brother's aunt Dana. I've known your mommy for so many years you wouldn't even believe it. I saw you either the day you were born or the day after I remember. You were beautiful then and really a doll now. I know going back and forth to the hospital is not a lot of fun, although, Scottish Rite looks pretty awesome. My little guy, Sam, who is one year younger than you has been pretty much in the hospital since April. Yuck!

Your mommy has been keeping me informed about you, Andrew and William. I actually got to see William in August. Boy is he cute!

Be a sweetie for your family and hang in there.

Madeleine, how are you today? Do you like kittens? I have a 4-month-old female kitten named Charly. She is a handful! She loves to explore. Yesterday I found her sleeping in the bathtub. Later I heard a noise and couldn't figure out where it was coming from. I found Charly in my sock drawer! My husband and I have also found her hiding in a pile of plastic bags in the pantry with just her face peeking out, and sleeping in his closet behind his shoe boxes. I think Charly thinks she is a shoe! But she is also very sweet. She loves to be held, and when I pick her up, she purrs and looks like she is smiling. Then I forget about all of her mischief.

I hope you feel better. I wrote this little poem for you after I saw the picture of you in your pink outfit:
Madeleine's arms lift her up like spread wings,
Madeleine's lips kiss the song that she sings;
Madeleine's eyes have a luminous shine --
Oh if only sweet Madeleine's heart would be mine!

Hugs to you -- Andrea Eskin

Madeleine, what a great name. They write books about a little girl in France named Madeleine. I know because I read them to two of my granddaughters, Cate and Sarah. They also play tea party and Madeleine is one of their make believe friends. Cate and Sarah would want you to know that they(and me too, Jackie, their grandmother) wish you all good things. Sarah and Cate's great-grandfather (actually Jackie's father)worked for many years on the Shrine Circus and many other projects to helped support the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. It is one of the very special places in all the world and a lot of people there really like kids. Keep smiling.

Madeleine!
I have been checking your journal to see what you're up to.
I can't believe how well you did with your MRI- most grown-ups can't do that! And you sure do know some stuff, don't you? I hope you got to go to school today. I think you can teach the class!

Oh' what a day!!! Madeleine has had the worse day since taking this medicine. We think it is because she had no sleep Tuesday night, received day 1 meds yesterday, was awaken at 5:00 A.M. this morning so she would be sleepy for her MRI. She is completely worn out and wanted no part of them getting her up so early. So guess what she told them as they tried to wake her this morning? Later, is all she would say and back to sleep she would go. Amy, one of the wonderful Child Life Specialist, came in this morning to prepare her for the MRI and told Connie she didn't understand why they had to sedate her for the test. She felt like she could talk her through it. Connie told her it was up to them, she would go along with whatever they thought was best. Amy talked to Dr's and radiology and it was decided they would try it. What a pro!! She didn't move a finger nail, what a big girl she was. They had no problem doing the procedure and she was back to her room. Day 2 of the meds are behind her but My O'MY she has the steriod blues bad. She told us all to leave at one time or the other.
Sleep tight my little Chick A Dee, only one more day and you will be back home.
Love Granny

Madeleine has had a hard night and day. She was up all night which means no sleep for anyone in the house. That includes Mom who has to stay at the hospital for three days and nights with her. Not good") They will be doing another MRI tomorrow morning to find out what is going on in those leg muscles. She has lots of pain pretty much all the time in them. Her muscle enzymes are in the ok zone, but with her having nights of no sleep due to pain they want to find the problem. We all agree with that. They explained that the meds may have helped the outside of the large muscles but not penetrated deep into them. We will know later tomorrow.
Her first day of meds are over and she was beginning to get sleepy when I left there. They will wake her at 5:00 A.M. to give her some liquid then they want her to stay awake with no food or liquid until after the MRI. She has to be put to sleep while it is being done. The minute she wakes up she is ready to eat several breakfasts so good luck with all that!
Today was a great day at the lab, she sat in the big chair all by herself to have her blood drawn. She is such a big girl. She gives us all strength by the way she handles herself at the hospital and with her sweet attitude. She is the funniest girl and her granny loves her so much.

Sleep good my little Chick A Dee.

Ah, Madeline, you are indeed a princess. And the fairest one in the land - just ask your mirror, it'll tell you. I love all the pictures of you, especially the one with you and William.

If you close your eyes real hard, maybe you'll see the hug I'm sending you. Keep making everyone around you smile.

Madeleine, I am so glad that today was a super day at school. What a way for the year to start. Wish you could go the rest of the week.
I know that you are excited to see your friends tomorrow at the hospital. Pretend that the IV, etc. is not part of it. You will have lots to talk about this week. You will be able to tell everyone about answering the phones at the MDA telethon yesterday, being on TV and seeing your very best friend Jennifer. Madeleine and Jennifer have the same unfortunate challenge. Make your three days as fun as you can while receiving your medication. We thank God there are medications for this rare bird of a disease.
Love Granny
