I see him all the time, he had a big place in my heart. He always cared for others. I'm trying to be like that little boy I met at Trimmer my first year there and he spent his 5th grade with us and last. I loved that boy.

Today I visited Caringbridge for the first time in quite awhile. I didn't realize how long it had been until I saw that there have been no postings in almost 3 years. Wow, 3 years. That doesn't mean we haven't thought about Joey in 3 years - God knows, we think about him all the time. But life goes on and we go on. Joey's twin graduated high school last year and joined the Air Force last month. He's all grown up now and it makes me so sad that Joey isn't all grown up too. I miss that kid SO much. I once again read the letter his 'girl friend' Brittney wrote. It was so special, the relationship they had. He was so special.

I miss you buddy. After almost 9 years you are still in my heart and on my mind. I love you Joey.

Six years I remember the joy and on this the 13 day of March I spend time in tears, I miss my little praise, prayer, worship and Bible study buddy. I often hear him asking "Do you want a piece of me?" And how he loved to go to Wal-Mart. I still have a plant ivy with a Wal-Mart ID for ten years of service, from the funeral. I love Josiah and I love James his identical Twin who is also a living tribute to the love of GOD...I love all of you and now as Josiah would pray: "Dear Heavenly Father bless ______ in Jesus name amen!" Can we go to Wal-Mart?

How can it be 6 years already! It's amazing that the memory of this amazing kid could still be so fresh after this much time. It is just a testament to what an effect he had on everyone he met. I was lucky to be his aunt and to know him his entire life and I'm sorry for those who never had the chance to be touched by this amazing life.

Well, you would've been 15 sunday. It's amazing to look at James and just imagine that could've been you. I miss you so much, as I know we all do. I haven't even been to the grave site since we buried you, but I always keep you in my thoughts all the time. I love you so much! I miss you even more, but i know you're so happy now. Can't wait to see you again someday. Your cousin,

It's hard to believe it's been 4 years unless you look at Josiah's big, strapping twin. James is growing up SO fast. But the hole left in our lives by Josiah's passing still seems so huge, I thought it would get smaller with the passing of time. I thought I would miss him less. I thought thinking of him would become less painful. I was wrong. I miss him terribly, I think of him often, I still cry when I remember his wonderful heart and his awesome smile and what we've lost. I love you Josiah, I miss you, and you will always remain in my heart.

The LORD has saved me for HIS purposes here and now. I had a heart attack on or near Nov 30-Dec 01, 2006 and the two blockages nearly had my ticket punched to meet Josiah in the heavens. But it appears that GOD is not through with me and for that I am thankful to be alive with a memory of such a fantastic Christian as Josiah Michael Leonard. May his memory continute to remind us how GOD loves us and never forsakes us. I miss you Josiah, love dad.

Found your site by accident; A touching memorial to the young man.

In all the knowledge scholars can offer for a short time,
the simple faith of a child can offer inspiration for a lifetime.

Two quotes from Edwin Markham:

Here is the Truth in a little creed, enough for all the roads we go: In Love is all the law we need, In Christ is all the God we know.

Ah, great it is to believe the dream as we stand in youth by the starry stream; But a greater thing is to fight life's battles through, and say at the end, "The dream is true!"

Today is the 2nd anniversary of the day Josiah left us. 2 years. A lot has happened in 2 years, but yet it feels like it was just yesterday that Josiah laughed so uproarously at his grandfather's antics. Like yesterday when he took my hand and prayed for my stomach pain to be healed. Like yesterday that his arms wrapped around me in the most wonderful of hugs.

I visited his grave site yesterday and left some little purple flowers there, not because I believe Josiah is there, but because I want other visitors to know that this boy was special and he was loved and still is loved deeply by those who were so very fortunate enough to know him.

I miss him a lot. I think of him often. I'll love him forever.

On 2-14-2006 Trimmer Elementary where Josiah used to attend school planted a memorial Oak Tree in honor of Josiah's life of love.
It was a great Valentines gift.
Several people shared memories even a some kids. The local tv and newspapers covered the event and aired or printed them. Look up the Killeen Daily Herald "School's tree dedication, tearful, heartfelt Valentines (wgragg@kdhnews.com)Wendy Gragg author. It is worth the reading. Josiah asked often if you wanted a piece of him and now you can enjoy the shade and even pick up a leaf. Josiah loved to read.
Jacob Leonard age 10 now reminded the counselor Mary Standrige about putting up a tree and she fulfilled the promise. I know that Josiah would be pleased.

Shalom, even today as time passes on the son the LORD blessed me with is still touching and blessing lives by the legacy he left for our memories. Josiah would be proud of his twin James. He would be happy for Jacob and how he loved his big sister Hanna and big brother John.
A friend of mine Angela Kirkpatrick authored a book "Monkey Bar Adventures" It has a dedication and a short story about Josiah. She now has a friend Jamie who is 29 that needs prayers as she is in a stage of a brain tumor where it seems time to have Hospice help. Please pray for a miracle. This has been H. Kelly I did not have the priveledge of 'knowing' Josiah!! I have only recently 'met' YOU on line. But I have read about Josiah..I read the comments so may others have made..and the wonderful "from the heart" comments in the journel Brittney wrote about him. I am glad Josiah has "gone home" to the arms of Jesus!! He is free of pain, no longer emcumbered by the dread disease that ravaged his body..but never managed to ravage his SPIRIT. What a wonderful child...to trust and to love GOD as he did. His courage was AMAZING in one so young..his faith makes me HUMBLE!
I have never had a child..yet I know instinctively the loss of a child is the most terrible loss one can possibly endure. But what you and everyone else LEARNED from this brave and deeply DEVOUTE young man..is priceless. I am ashamed for the way many times I have moaned and complained about my arthritis..or my life when things don't go as I planned. This child had such FAITH in God..such courage BORN of that same faith.
What a wonderful family he lived in..what a JOY he must have been to you ..What LOVE he inspired by all (obviously) who knew him. God BLESS you and your family...you have been through much..but you have PREVAILED...and I am PROUD to have 'met' you on line:>))

The Killeen Police Department played football against Temple Police Department on 01-15-2005 in Copperas Cove. Josiah had been the honorary captain for the first game last year. There was a moment of silence for Josiah and a Temple officer who lost his life also to brain tumors.

Josiah would have been happy that KPD scored this year a total of 28 points, Temple 0

Officer Orr presented me with a photo of Josiah holding the Pig Bowl Thropy from last year's game.

The KPD squad had a sticker on their maroon helmets to honor Josiah that had JL23 in a football.

I would like to establish the JL23 MVP Award for future games.

As a fanily we still miss Josiah dearly. Mercy Me has the song "Homesick" and it speaks to us especially Mom and Dad.
God bless each of you and as Josiah would say "Dear Heavenly Father."

I can't believe it has been so long without Josiah. I miss him so bad. The holidays are going to be so difficult please pray for us. The picture of Josiah on the front page of this site was taken in December 2003, less then one year ago. Yet sometimes it feels like a life time since I last hugged that beautiful child. But, I know God is blessed to have him.

Soon it will be six months since I last held Josiah. It seems like five or six years. But for Josiah it is forever since he last held on to me here. GOD is faithful he recently had Jacob take over being the early morning devotional buddy and then HE had James take over in welcoming me home from work. James likes football and nearly tackles me when I finish work at SHS. GOD did this after taking me through 21 days of fasting and praying. People always ask how we are doing. We are living in the FAITH wiht a more passionate heart knowing life here is but a vapor and then it is gone. Yes we hurt. Yet we know one day in the bye and bye we shall be with our Awesome GOD and Josiah will leads us in devotion and welcoming us home into the arms of Jesus Christ our LORD and Savior.
Friends are Forever when the LORD is the LORD of them. I and the entire Leonard and Schlater family love you and we ask that GOD will bless you in the name above all names.

The time seems so long and dragging since I last held Josiah. I said it before and now again "I didn't know how much I would miss him." Help me Jesus, hold me Jesus, thank you LORD for holding Josiah.

For each of you who visit thank you more than you know. It does help to read your comments.

"dear Heavenly Father bless those parents and children who are going through days and nights of difficulty. May you put a wall of fire and protection around each of them.

Love in the name of Yeshua H. Gabriel "Bull" Leonard (Josiah's dad)

Didn't Know How Much I Would Miss You

I didn't know how much I would miss you

How I long to kiss you.

How I long to hug and to hold you

My eyes are burning, my heart is on fire

I miss you son, you came early and left so soon

I' ve seen the sun, stars and the moon

Yet the days and nights leave no room

I still miss hearing your dreams and desires

I didn't know how much I would miss you

How I miss the back rubs from you

How I long to go to Wal-Mart with you

My eyes are burning, my heart is on fire

I know son that you are with the Savior, the groom

Who made the suns, stars and the moon

I am weak and need HIS strength all these days and nights

The truth is I miss you son with your joy and desires

For now I long for the day to hug and to hold you

Didn't know how much I would miss you

Written by H. Gabriel "Bull" Leonard (Future author of "The Grains of the Mustard Seed")

There is a song that I frequently sing that has the words "since I started for the Kingdom, since my life He controls, since I gave my heart to Jesus, the longer I serve Him the sweeter He grows." As we age, heaven becomes more precious to us, but nothing has brought heaven closer to me than to know that when I get there I will be able to hold our beautiful grandson again. I cannot bring myself to think of him as being dead, because I know he is still alive in Christ Jesus. Until I see him "in the morning" I will think of him in this way:
I Will

Pastor said “Who will volunteer
To come and stand with me
To say the opening prayer,
For all the class to see”

A little hand was quickly raised
“I will, I will” — excited as can be,
Joey came forward and offered praise.
We know our Lord did see.

And all too soon the Lord did call
And all the world did see,
God loved our special boy,
Even more than we.

God said “I need a volunteer”
To come and stand with me
To be my special angel
For all of Heaven to see”.

A little hand was quickly raised
“I will, I will” — excited as can be,
Joey went Home to be with Jesus,
Where he’ll live eternally.

I see him now against Jesus’ breast
Or dancing on golden streets
He’s waiting just inside the gates
And watching for you and me.

Thank you for allowing Brittany to share her first love with such a true gentleman, a God fearing man. I have no doubt in life when she goes to pick a husband she will measure him by her first love, a man who put God first in everything he did. Thank you for raising and instilling that in all of your children, it is a joy to be around you guys. We love you.

Dearest Gabe and Kelly and other siblings. I met GABE at the World Prayer Center I believe it was May of 2000 I am not sure. It was a conference. I saw him wrapped in a TALIT and being jewish wanted to know if he was. We talked and prayed about me going to Israel some day. I haven't as yet gone but know it will be soon. Josiah was someone I only knew by email. I knew he prayed for my jewish brother in Calif. My sincere condolences are with you. I admire how you hung in there with your Love, prayers etc. You are remarkable people. God has taught you a lifetime of Compassion for people thru that boy. May God give you His Shalom continually. "All these people [Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Josiah Leonard] were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth. People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own."

Hebrews 11:13-14 [emphasis added by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit]

Now Josiah too is living in a "country of his own."

Bull, Kelly, and family,
My heart aches for your loss; but at the same time, I am rejoicing that Josiah is with the Father and pain-free at last. His fight is over, his battle won. Praise God. Hebrews 13:5 says, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." May God comfort each one of you and lend you his strength.

Kelly and Family,
Four years ago I came to 4B and became one of Josiah's nurses. I instantly fell in love with him and his sweet disposition, electric smile and twinkling eyes. He had a wonderful sense of humor and could always make me laugh. He always entertained me with a story of some sort. Over the last few weeks he and I would discuss on occassion how he felt about his situation. I knew how strong his faith and love for the Lord was by our conversations and that he wanted to protect his parents from any heartache that would follow. He not only gave me strength and encouragement by his courage but a stirring in my heart to know that he would and IS doing well by celebrating with the Lord. May God Bless EACH of you and wrap HIS arms around you. I feel blessed to have been part of Josiah's life and yours. YOU Kelly, are ONE of the strongest women I have ever known. IN HIM~~~~Jann

Josiah's website is very beautiful. I believe many will come to the Lord and others (as myself)encouraged in their walk, through Josiah's and his family's faith and from the many Christian friends who have written such uplifting words.
Though I have never met Josiah, I look forward to thanking him one day for being an inspiration to me.
Thank you Gabe and Kelly for sharing him with us through his website.

If one day you get a message,
That I'm no longer here,
Just think about the good times,
Forget about the tears.
For I will be in Heaven,
For that is my last stand,
Just talking to my Jesus,
and holding , to His hand.
For this is what I lived for,
to see the masters face,
and the reason I am able ,
is because He took my placeI will miss you Darlings,
and you will miss me too:
but, I'll save a place beside me,
so here's what you must do.
Remember all the good times,
those times we hold so dear:
please don't turn the clock back,
for I will still be near.
They say that Heaven's ,
just a prayer away and
I believe that's true,
so, remember loved ones, when you pray,
I'll be praying too.
And that will bring us closer,
for I'm sure that is God's plan.
To have us back together,
for he is
"The great I Am."

Gabe,Kelly, and Family, forever each of you will be in my Prayers, and I especially will always remember all the times Josiah March vilantly in all the March for Jesus, I will miss his beautiful smile, his remarkable eyes, as they touched everyone, and that compassion, of loving to hug everyone. His Exuberance in Praise, and waving the flags, the playing of the tambourine, the uninhabited nature, to just come to the front and dance before the Lord, well today, he had an audience with the King of Kings, and is dancing in His presence, together with Pastor Ed Long, they are having a grand old time.
I will miss him, and know that God's timing is Perfect and His Mercies are new every morning. If there's anything I can do for you and your beautiful family, please call upon me. We will continue to Fight the good Fight.
Blessings, Jenny

My dear friends in the faith: I cannot say I know what you are going through because I have never been through this kind of trauma, but I know that Abba (Daddy) Father knows exactly what you are facing, and He knows how to strengthen your hearts. I am mad at the devil for attacking this young son of yours. Thank God for His Word that teaches us that nobody can pluck you out of my hand. Josiah is in good hands with Jesus, and He knows just what the need is. Keep the faith. NEVER give in, give up or turn back. The "BEST" is yet to come! Much love and prayers.

I'm so close to all that is happening with Josiah and the Leonard family that it's sometimes difficult to find words to express how I feel. Josiah is my hero - it never ceases to amaze and impress me how he has handled his situation over the years and especially in the past few months when things started getting more difficult. I've never heard him complain or whine or have a "pity-party", and as long as he was able to smile, he always has - every day. I noticed that in each of his prayers he always prays that everyone "have a good time". That seems to be important to him and I want to honor him by, as often as possible, having a good time. I also want to acknowledge the other "heros" in this situation: Josiah's brothers, John, Jacob, and James, and his sister, Hanna; his father, Gabe; and most especially his mother, my sister, Kelly. Kel, your strength (which you don't even realize you possess) and courage (which you probably don't think is a choice) continuously amaze me. All of you are constantly in my thoughts and prayers and it is my honor to be a part of this family.

My dearest friends,

I thought of you today. I was that smile that crossed your face as you dreamt of warm sunshine, green grass, and beautiful breezes. That warmth in your heart was me, sending happy thoughts of good times, of puppy kisses, and home made ice cream. That breeze across your chest was me, as I wrapped you in a long hug, held long enough to take the pain away for just a little while.
