Alan and Family,
I have been a member of the volunteers at DIA in Denver to assist the
disabled vets going to the Aspen Ski Week, for the last 9 years. I can
only tell you that it has been a pleasure to see Alan's big smile everytime
that he comes thru. I have been watching the videos of his progress and
hope that he will walk again. Hope to see the family at DIA again this
next year. Have a good year.

Hi Alan, I met you at the Memorial Day Celebration at Sun City in Georgetown, Tx. I was the lady photographer running around taking photos. I took several photos of you. I'm sending the best of them to our Sun Rays and hope they do a nice story on you and your ordeals. You are blessed with a very loving family and I will pray for your continued recovery. If your parents would like a copy of the photos, please let me know and I'll be happy to e-mail them. God Bless you and it was an honor and pleasure to meet you. Faith

Hi Alan. Thank God for His enduring Mercy and healing power. You dont know me but I met your mom right after your injury. I have been praying for you all along but seem to lose touch with your mom. I was so happy to find how well you are doing. I want to thank you for you dedication to our country and selfishless giving for the safety of the men and women you served with. I pray Gods continued hand on you and one day you will be completly whole again. Our God is bigger that any thing life gives us. You are an inspiration to others to never give up. Sometimes as humans we feel like giving up but remember if that happens to you that God has a tighter grip on you than you have on Him and HE WILL NEVER GIVE UP. I will have you in my thoughts daily.

Nobody can imagine how many veterans there are with injuries! Nobody can imagine how many veterans organizations there are either. It all speaks very hard and real about combat; AS WELL AS homefront. A combat that only a soldier sees and we don't! We seem so isolated from it . Assigning blame ain't the answer . Tracing a path and enforcing it with a certain degree of courage IS what all our veterans need NOW! More than ever! JFK said once" Challenge is the law of Life! And those who look on to the past or present are bound to miss the future!" This was a great man. A Naval officer who saved his whole crew and never thought of his own safety. I'm a dwarf walking among giants!. Let us dare to bring about a resolution after combat for all veterans who bare such silent pain! It is the least we should do. MAY GOD BLESS ALL VETERANS. PAST AND PRESENT. WITH PROFOUND RESPECT TO ALL.

Hello, Alan, Rosie, Alain and Christy... I am grateful that I found this site. Just wanted to tell you that I read about you in Neal McCoy's new book "A New Mountain to Climb" Every person's story that he included in his book has touched my heart. Yesterday, I happened to see some pictures of a medic that is getting alot of coverage for the work he does, a Tyrone Jordan, and I thought of you, Alan. I thought of how courageous and self sacrificing you were when you ran to help your wounded comrade. I thought of you Alan Babin, the soldier who wanted to be on the frontline, to help. I thought of your family and the support they have and continue to give you.

So, Alan, I looked for you, by doing a search, and I found some articles about you and your family. I found this site, and read your Mom's last post. I want to wish you and your family a happy Thanksgiving and a wonderful Christmas. God Bless you... as He is using you and your family to bless others and me.

Alan, as a former Marine, it is always a true honor to meet other Americans who have made the commitment to serve and protect our nation. The evening that I was asked to meet and assist you, your mother, and sister, on your return arrival to Austin, I could not have been more proud and honored to do so. Having met you and a portion of your family, it is reassuring to know that God and Country are still at the fore-front of many families and their heritage in our great Nation.

If there is ever anyway that I can assist or support you or your family, please do not hesitate to contact me directly...it will always be an honor.

I am not sure if you remember me but we met recently while you, Alan and Christy were on your trip to New York City. My name is Randy Habick. I am the TSA Honor Guard Commander that met you at the airport.

Unfortunately it has taken me some time to write this. But I finally got a moment. I wanted to say how lucky I am to have been able to meet Alan and his wonderful family. He is a very fortunate man to have such a loving and caring family. It is important to have that. Especially during these trying times.

I want to take a moment and express some of my feelings to you. Meeting Alan, you and your daughter at the airport was inspiring to say the least. How you have rallied around him and have given him the care that no other could give. You and your family are miraculous to say the least. If there were a galaxy somewhere in the heavens, that held a star for each mother here on earth, your star is definitely one of the brightest.

Many times I do not get to learn very much about the wounded warriors that travel through Newark Liberty International Airport. Most are traveling alone and some just don’t want to be given any special treatment.
Alan has struck a chord and I found myself wanting to know more about him. Thankfully I remembered the website you had recommended. In reading the story of Alan’s courage, of how he left his spot of safety to assist one of our own, makes him a very special human being. And I think God knew this and that is why he made sure Alan would be able to survive this tragedy. God has a task for Alan and he has already begun his next journey. It started with strengthening the bonds of your family and giving someone like me and the others that meet Alan and his family the courage to see there is more to life.

He is a remarkable young man. You are just as remarkable. Your whole family is.

Please allow me to keep in touch and consider you as a true friend. Someday I will make it down to Round Rock, TX and take you up on your hospitality.

Always remember that there are many of out here that have met Alan and now hold him and his family close to the heart and in our prayers.

God Bless!

To all the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve Our Country, Thank You.

And I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I won’t forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

Perform, then, this one act of remembrance before this Day passes – Remember there is an army of defense and advance that never dies and never surrenders, but is increasingly recruited from the eternal sources of the American spirit and from the generations of American youth. — W.J. Cameron

Better than honor and glory, and History’s iron pen,
Was the thought of duty done and the love of his fellow-men.

More eloquent than men;
Their tones can deeper reach
Than human voice or pen.

Dear Alan, You don't know me, but I know of you through my son Jon Henderson. He was a friend of your mother Rosie when we lived in Del Rio. I taught in the Del Rio Schools and Jon's dad Wes flew for the Air Force. I saw your mother's picture on her facebook page and she is a beautiful woman; your entire family is beautiful in every way. You must be so very proud of them all and I know how much they must love you. You are in my thoughts this memorial day as all Americans honor our veterans. We owe you so very much. Hey Alan & Family!! This is SSgt Matthew Worsham. I was one of the Air Force critical care team members that brought you from DC back to Texas. It's great to see that you are doing so well. I can't believe it's been almost 7 years since that flight. That was very young in my career, and you were my very first critical care flight. Since then, I have deployed 5 times overseas doing critical care evacuation. Of all the flights I have done, yours still stands out the most because I had the privilege to interact with your family from beginning to end. I don't get to meet everyone's family when I fly them, but your family truly made me realize the importance of what it is that I do. I have used that story to inspire some of our younger troops in the importance of their role when flying.

You are truly an inspiration to all. I feel so lucky to have this site to be able to see how you're doing from time to time. Best Wishes to you and your family.

"But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate...we can not consecrate...we can not hallow this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract."

Dearest, Dearest Babin Family

One day at a time, one surgery, one hour, and step by step you are making it through the hard times and creating a purposeful life. I was born with a birth defect and spent many years in and out of the hospital. My family, like yours, learned what was needed for my daily care so I could spend more time at home with them. Looking back now I can see that although not all the memories we made are good memories, most of what I remember is good. I hope you will all look back with pride at what you have come through together. God has blessed you with family, with strength, and with grace. I pray he brings you health, happiness, and the best life has to offer. Thank you Badin family for your service and sacrifices and inspiration to all.

Reading your story again it is hard to believe it has only been 6-1/2 years since you were injuried. Seeing and believing what miracles are possible when you have faith, courage, support and amazing determination. That is you Alan. When times are a bit tougher than I would like them to be I can hear you say "Never, never, never give up!". I have learned much from you and am very grateful.

Wishing you the happiest of birthdays and the biggest of Hugs!

BIGGGGGG Hugs :)

Hey buddy, hope all is well.

www.patriotgolfday.com
Patriot Golf Day is an event to raise money for scholarships for the spouses and children of our Military Men and Women disabled or killed while serving our country. Millions have been raised but as we all know, every dollar helps. It’s easy, go to the above website and find a golf course or courses you want to play between 4 September and 7 September and you can help. There are courses all over the country including Central Texas.

I’ll be out there and it’s been 12 years since I’ve been on a golf course. Although I’ve been practicing at the driving range, if you see me out there, find cover and find it quick, especially if you’re standing to my right.

Hello Alan and Family,

I had the pleasure of being Alan's computer teacher many years ago at RRHS. I think you were in about 10th grade and I can easily remember what you looked like back then! I also remember that you were quite a pill...not my most studious student, but sweet and funny, so you could get away with a lot with the young Mrs. Gray!

My dear friend from RRHS days, JoAnn Browne, sent me some old newspaper clippings about you. I'm moved beyond words at what you and your family have been through...and, yet, here you are "keeping on" and living life to its fullest. What an awesome family you all are...

God bless you!

Alan as I read your story,I could not help but think of another young man who when the time came, went off to war to protect and serve this great country of ours.Without any regard to his own safety he gave his life for this country at the young age of 19.His name is proudly etched on the Viet Nam wall for all eternity. Like my nephew I'am profoundly proud of you,for what you stand for and for the sacrifices that you made in the service of your country. There are many miracles in this world, and I would difinitly say that god has a mission for you to complete on this earth.I believe that your healing and recovery was meant for a reason.I wish you a speedy recovery and many years of happiness, but most of all the best of the Holidays to you and your wonderful family who has been beside you from the begining.God bless and keep you surrounded with his love. Your informational card finally made it into my office...still traveling a lot these days. I am still working with Bosma Enterprises to integrate service disabled veterans into our work place. It is a slow process since we only have so many positions open here. But I am diligently working on growing our mission driven businesses so more and more opportunities will be available.

I am glad to see your continuing good spirit shine through on your website and I will keep in touch.

And for you both my thoughts and prayers will always be there for you!

Hey Alan,
I'm glad to hear you're doing well with life as a student. I guess we're both adjusting to it... Mandiee and Abbiee are living up in Maine and I have a small rental down here on the water. The Ph.D. Program is as hard as I thought it was but I didn't realize that I would be starting Clinical Therapy Sessions this soon. I will probably be doing my research through the Providence VA. I'm just glad that I'll be helping Soldiers in any way I can. Take it easy and hopefully we will see you guys in the near future. Go Longhorns! I can say that because URI never gets to play Texas...

Dear Alan and Rosie,

Yesterday I had the privilege of representing Lions Clubs at a small meeting of the Blinded Veterans Council in Austin. The group's composition was similar to what you described for the BVA meeting you attended in Phoenix--some really interesting veterans from WWII, Korea and Vietnam--but their president, Kevin Jackson, is a younger vet, injured in an accident while serving in the USMC during the first Gulf War.

Another visitor was Ray Lisauckis, the Visual Impairment Services Coordinator at the VA in Waco.

Both Kevin and Ray were interested in the status of your vision, and wanted you to know they will be glad to help in any way they can.

How are your eyes coming along? Please let me know if you need contact information for either Kevin or Ray, and come visit us at the Lions Club again soon!

Sincerely,

Lion Alan

I too was a medic in the 325, 2nd batt. I was there in Samawah at the same time. It is awesome to see you making such progress. I hope that you overcome everything and continue to be the strong determined man that you have been until now. I pray for you and your loved ones who support you. Alan, do me a favor and truly express your appreciation to your loved ones as they have been the strengh. I too was in a horrific accident last year and without my loved ones, I don't think that my strong will and determination would have been enough. I work at the VA Hospital in Houston so if you ever make it this way, look me up. I would feel honored to shake your hand or, even better, give you a big hug. I am here for you buddy and please contact me if ever I can be of assistance.

Thank you for talking to my friend Tina, she is a wonderful person who just wants to take care of her son, as we both know how that is. Keep up the good fight. Alan, it was great seeing you again and actually meeting you for the first time at the Wounded Warrior Project's Operation Outreach at the Cracker Barrel in Round Rock! I have been to events where you and your mother have shared your stories but I have never had the opportunity to meet with you and speak to you myself. Having served in Iraq and Afghanistan and having many friends who were injured there, it is my sisters and brothers, like you, who make me proud to have served and to continue to serve! Your resilience and fortitude cannot be matched by just any average Joe because it can only come from the heart of a soldier. Thank you for your service, brother!

Alan I am a fellow Army soldier that just got back from another tour in Iraq with 1st CAV. I also recieved a purple heart but it was due to an IED consisting of 3 155mm artillery rounds. I was ejected out of the gunners hatch and broke both legs and several shrapnel wounds. I lost several friends in that blast and had 2 in the same condion as you. You guys are an inspiration for me every day. I believe you guys don't get enough praise for what you've done. You guys are the heros of this country. God bless.

The consistency and tiredless efforts your Mother has made over the last 5 years sharing your story, bringing it to life, is truly a blessing. Hey Allen! Just wanted to let you know that I am checking up on you. Looks like you are beating the odds everyday! God is good. You probably don't remember me but I hung out with you one night with friends at the pool hall(Jose Santamaria, Alison Hervol and Cynthia Fritzinger). You made an impression. I came and visited you with Cynthia too when you were in the hospital a few years ago. Keep up the good work. You also have an amazing Mom! I see where you get it from. As Cozz's Mom, I too have been aware of the ups and downs of Alan's life as well as his entire family. It is with great pride that I write that the "Two Angels" Alan has befriended through such a tragic experience, have grown into the most kind and loving women amongst the Nursing Profession. I too am a Registered Nurse and have never had the opportunity these two women have had to care for another human being as they continue to do so for Alan. Alan and Family,

My name is SSgt Matthew Worsham. I am the respiratory therapist on the Air Force Critical Care Air Transport Team, that had the distinct privilege to bring you from Walter Reed back home to Texas. I was talking with my family the other day about my job transporting our injured Brother's at Arms. Your name is one that stands out when I speak of past transports. You were my first ever flight transport. With flying you home came the distinct pleasure of flying with your Mother on board, as well as, meeting your family in Texas. Your Mother had told me that you were a fellow medic, and that made me have a instint "bond" to you. That is a day that I will never forget. The love and determination between You and your Family I saw that day was very overwhelming. Since November 2003, I have been transporting critically injured patients from Iraq/Afghansitan and into Landstuhl Medical Center, Germany. Then from Germany back to Walter Reed/Bethesda Medical Centers. And I credit You and your Family for giving me the inspiration to continue flying Critical Care. Thank you for your sacrifice and congratulations on your recovery and activities that you are involved in. America and your Brothers at Arms are forever grateful to you!

Yo Alan,
It takes a lot of strength and courage, not to mention understanding and a love for the Great Spirit, to say something like, " Being angry would just be a waste of time and I would rather spend my energy on therapy and getting better." Dang Alan, that's pretty heavy stuff indeed. What happened to you happened to you, of that fact there is no denying. But excepting it as another of life's challenges and not a sadness to waste time and energy being angry about takes courage and that's another fact of which there is no denying.

Yer fightin' the good fight for all of us Alan, keep fighting.....

Hey buddy,

I think your Mom is conspiring against us, I haven’t seen many pictures of you with all the beautiful ladies that usually surround you. I know the ladies have not stopped flocking to you, hell; you had Bo all over you and I saw the proof. Maybe we should talk to your Dad about posting pictures :-).

There probably isn’t anything we can do more worthwhile than to encourage and help a fellow Vet. I was very proud when I read that part of your Mom’s journal … and I think she may have been proud too.

Keep up the hard work, you’ll probably never know how many lives you have affected, touched, and influenced across this wonderful nation and probably the world.

Dear Babin Family,
I have been following Alan's journey since the very beginnning when Rosie sent out emails. I got on the list through a friend of the Orrs. What a remarkable journey for all! I emailed and encouraged Rosie years ago when she was in Washington. My son had 20+ surgeries growing up. We spent many a night in the hospital and much time in doctor waiting rooms. I live in Round Rock and keep thinking one day, I will call and stop by and see you all. For now, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. The article was such a tribute to Alan's tenacity.

Thanks for the reminder in the recent post of how far Alan has come in the past four years. It's hard to believe it's only been four years since we were praying for our sons as they were entering Iraq and fighting in their battles. I know how grateful I am to have Matt 'home' (he's stationed in Germany now but you know what I mean..) and your life is a testament to how much you value Alan. He has been blessed and we get to be blessed by seeing what God is doing with him. Thank you for always sharing your story. Keep reminding us!

I am asigned to the medical hold company at WOMAC Ft. Bragg. Along with a guy you may or may not rember. Chadwick Paul A.K.A. Staff Sergeant Paul. He was the scout team leader attached to our Platoon. And he is the one responsible helping me get you on the litter and evaced out along with Valasquez who helped me patch you up. Anyhow, Paul and i have temporary jobs working with the 82nd Airborne Div Safety Office. We got the job from our old 1SG. Dale Wagner who is retired now and works there. I am so glad that you are doing well. There is still a handful of us left from the platoon still at bragg, and we always end up talking about you and i inform them of how far you have come and how much you inspire me.

I had the extreme pleasure (and honor) of meeting Alan at Lackland AF Base when he came in for his LASIK evaluation last week. In my opinion, Alan is the real angel--touching our lives and making us appreciate the things in our lives that we take for granted. His amazing courage and zest for life is an inspiration for all of us lucky enough to be blessed by his huge smile and the bright light of God's love shining in his eyes! I thank God to have met him and look forward to watching him continue to jump over life's hurdles, full speed ahead!!!!!!! God has great plans for you, Alan R. Babin Jr.--and I'm positive that you won't let Him down!!! I look forward to seeing you and your wonderful Mom again,in April! (Come in a week before your surgery so we can make sure your measurements remain stable.) I have worn your bracelet every day--now my sister wants one! I wear it with pride and appreciation for all that you have done, and all that you continue to do. Thank you--for you!

Scuba huh? I always wanted to meet a pretty mermaid. If you happen to swim across any could you put in a good word for me?

I'm glad to see 2007 is shaping up to be another year of blessings for you. If you're already this busy in the dead of winter, we're going to have a hard time keeping up with you in the Spring. Keep the faith amigo. I hope to see you soon

Scuba? Dang buddy, don't you know if God wanted you that far underwater he would have given you fins!

I'm very happy for you and you look so relaxed in the water. Mountain skiing, scuba, it's getting difficult to keep track of you. Keep up the hard work and keep on enjoying yourself, you are truly an inspiration to all.

Hey Doc, it's great to see you up and about. I don't know if you remember me but I was the sniper on the scout team with you there in Iraq. I have been wondering what you have been up to. I was one of the guys working on you when we had that unfortunate incident. I'm glad you were able to tell your wife you missed and loved her in person. I told you that you would. Hey buddy, if you ever need anything let me know. I'm still here at Bragg but I work at PRC while the rest of the BN is in Iraq, again. You take care and God Bless....

Hey Alan,
When I said better weather ahead this ain't exactly what I was talkin' 'bout. It was so cold the other night that when someone opened the front door of the house a light came on inside (I know, it's bad, I had nothin' else!).

My nephew, Brett Bolt, is a USAF Major flying Blackhawk "search and rescue" in Afghanistan. Shore hope Brett and all of our brothers and sisters in uniform come home safely.

Better weather and, awww, forget it...

Hey Buddy,

If bringing all this cold, ice, and snow back with you from skiing is your idea of a joke, I DON'T THINK SO. You know there is a very good reason why you have to get on a plane and fly north for hours to go snow skiing :-).

I’m glad you’re home safe and it sounds like y’all had a great time. Look forward to seeing you soon.

It is great to see you are still growing in strength day to day. Both my churches have been praying for you since I was notified about you about two years ago. God bless you and your family. I have been riding with the Patriot Guard for heros like you. Will tune in and check on you from time to time. Like I said May God Bless and keep you in all things.
