God bless America and keep us safe and free — Safe from all our enemies, wherever they may be... Teach us to walk humbly and closer in Thy ways, Give us faith and courage and put purpose in our days, Make each one of us aware that each must do his part, For in the individual is where peace must have its start — For a better world to live in where are all safe and free Must start with faith and hope and love deep in the heart of me. ~ HELEN STEINER RICE ~

The beauty of a life well-lived becomes a legacy that stays behind and warms the heart with every memory. Our family is thinking of you on Memorial Day wishing you peace and happiness today and always.

Just stopping by to check in on you and to say hello, this Valentine's Day. Though I haven't said "Hi, there," in ever so long don’t think for a minute that anything's wrong — I keep pretty busy with things I must do, but I think of you often —believe me, I do.

Valentine treasures are people who have often crossed your mind, family, friends and others, too, who in your life have shined the warmth of love or a spark of light that makes you remember them; no matter how long since you’ve actually met, each one is a luminous gem who gleams and glows in your memory, bringing special pleasures, and that’s why this Valentine comes to you: You’re one of those sparkling treasures!

We huddle by the fire on this bitter cold night,
Enjoying hot cocoa by the warm fire light.

While the smells of a feast fill this rickety old shack,
Icy winds whistle as they dance through the cracks.
Surrounded with blankets, sweet carols we sing,
Happily awaiting what this Christmas will bring.

You won't find any presents 'neath our skimpy tree.
Ornaments are hand-made and so is our wreath.
Under limp mistletoe, mom gives dad a kiss,

Atmosphere of joy and love

Merry Christmas to all of you.
Everyone here at our house is thinking of you.
Remember Christ loves you, no matter your worth.
Revel in the illuminating joy of His birth.
Your love is the only gift He'll ever ask.

Celebrate His life and in His light you'll bask.
Holiday giving and the spread of good cheer,
Really is something we could keep up all year.
Imagine a world where it was Christmas each day,
Sounds hard to do, but it could be that way.
This is our Christmas wish for all of you tonight--
May His warmth surround you like a blanket of light.
All your wishes be granted with His blessings of love,
Sent special delivery from the Angels above.

It's the time of year when we're reminded to give thanks.
Instead of waiting until next year to be reminded,
Let's make every day one of thanksgiving;
After all, each day is a unique gift.
So, give a hug for no reason;
Say I love you, just because;
Share a smile with a stranger;
Take the time to count your blessings;
Don't take anything or anyone for granted;
And end each day with no regrets.
Thank you, my friends and family,
For sharing, caring, laughing and crying with me.
I'm truly blessed to have each and every one of you in my life
And I am thankful you have allowed me
To be a part of yours.
May you and yours have a safe and memorable Thanksgiving.

I have a daughter that is going through all the testing for metabolic disorders/mitochondrial dysfunctions, etc. I just want to tell you that your story is for SURE an inspiration for me. I can see how GOD works in your family, for sure. You are a very motivated mother and you can for sure see that those children are SO SO loved. I would for sure like to make a donation for your walk. Nice site, and sweet children. True reminds me of Carissa in many (but not all) ways! It makes them so much easier to live with that they are such happy spirits, but it makes it so much harder to get outsiders to understand and harder to get a dx.

Hi Deb,
Just wishing you a very happy mother's day. I have such admiration for women who are mothers through adoption or alternative means (such as surrogacy, in vitro, etc). Since going through our surrogacy journey, I never realized all the steps, effort and determination that are involved in becoming a mother. Stories like yours are an inspiration that one day I will be able to celebrate mother's day, too.

Deb,
It is always so great to see that you are still on the mito list from time to time. Amie and I speak often of the time we came to see all of you and getting to meet Andrew while you were still in Memphis. Gaige and Bliss have grown into such beautiful chldren and of course True has a smile that won't stop. Stop by Audrey's CB site sometime. Amie posts new pictures pretty often. You are still such an inspiration to me and to many others. May you and your family have a wonderful 2008.

A small poem to let you know that I'm thinking about you today! Keep hanging tough my special friends.

A Prayer For You

I said a prayer for you today
And I know God must have heard
I felt the answer in my heart
Although he spoke no word!
I didn't ask for wealth of fame
(I knew you wouldn't mind)
I asked him to send treasures
Of a far more lasting kind!
I asked that He'd be near you
At the start of each new day
To grant you health and blessings
And friends to share your way!
I asked for happiness for you
In all things great and small
But it was for His loving care
I prayed the most of all!

T is for the trust the pilgrims had so many years ago
H is for the harvest the settlers learnt to grow
A is for America, the land in which we live
N is for nature and beauty which she gives
K is for kindness, gentle words, thoughtful deeds
S is for smiles, the sunshine everyone needs
G is for gratitude... our blessings big and small
I is for ideas, letting wisdom grow tall
V is for voices, singing, laughing, always caring
I is for Indians, who taught them about sharing
N is for neighbors, across the street, over the sea
G is for God’s blessings at Thanksgiving and always.

Remembering Andrew today with his larger than life smile. Him tossing the football and eating pudding while visiting us @ NEMC. Walking down Plymouth's waterfront and having dinner. Hello Deb!
I'm sorry it's taken me so long to write you again, but it doesn't mean I haven't thought about you and your family countless times. I am constantly reminded of the saying "The Lord doesn't give you more than you can handle" but goodness girl, you sure have been given a lot to handle, but I know the Lord knew He was giving those little blessings the best person He could when He found you. Bless you for doing what so many of us would have a difficult time with. Taking on one child with special needs is amazing, but you have taken on much more. If only the world was made up of more people like you. God bless you and your wonderful family. My family will be buying balls and taking them to places where they will be enjoyed and they will know the story behind them and the love that is being shared in the giving.

I wish there was something I could do for you and True other than to pray for his fast recovery and that the Drs would have the wisdom to treat him properly. Hang in there I am sending you lots of warm thoughts, strength and courage.

Hi. My name is Angelina and I have a son who shares many of True's allergies. I followed a link to your blog from KFA website, and am so happy to learn about your family. I think that what you are doing is amazing. I find myself overwhelmed on most days by just the food allergies, never mind all the other medical issues that you are handling. You are an inspiration, thank you for sharing your journey. Congratulations on your family, my thoughts and prayers are with you and those beautiful children.

Deb,
Just saw your ad for the respite person on Craig's list...
Glad you got the respite worker...
I'm hoping to move to Wells soon...my guess is that's the area where you're living....
As I read about your children, I smiled warmly...perhaps I can provide some helpful supports in your community...as a mom of a young woman on the Autism Spectrum (High Functioning),I bring that journey....adopted her as an older child...she's settled in pretty much, growing, thriving, and living in a city where she wants to be. I want to live by the ocean, and am on my way....coming....the time table isn't yet perfectly clear, but what is...I've also been an autism consultant for many years, and have many years of in-home intensive therapy work with families, as well as psychotherapy on a less intense, outpatient basis...your devotion and love and sacrifice is an expression of love...the love for all humanity....I hope to meet you in person, and of course, the children...until then, perhaps we can do a bit of correspondence, if it's possible for you with your life rhythms...I'm currently looking in to renting a log home in Wells...if that unfolds properly, I could be in Wells, much sooner, than later...And being away from your children for those hours of respite could feel very unfamiliar for awhile, but, will nurture you both.... I raised 2 special needs girls for 9 yrs, and remember how full those life rhythms were....not as medically demanding as what you describe, but we had the emotional and behavioral that required much healing, growth, and learning.
Be well.
Linda

Hi Deb and family,
I'm just getting back into the swing of things and wanted to drop by and say hi. Although I skim through the mito group posts, I too have been off the computer for several months because life has been crazy. We had a huge fundraiser for the Mito researchers at Sick Kids in Toronto and that seemed to take over my life (but in a positive way). I've only now finished up my role but sure enough they've started planning the 2006 event! I've had to bow out of most of the work this year as it was too hard on me. Kirkland is stable but extremely fragile. He really is a little miracle man.
Please drop by and visit us sometime at Kirkland's Fan Club.
I'll check in on you next month but I pray your circumstances ease up.
Until then,
Happy Holidays!
Luv Kelly and Kirkland xoxo

Nice new picture, Deb:) I'm happy to see Gaige is setting into his new routine -- I hope the classroom works out for him. I'm NOT happy to see that you're having difficulties with Gaige's metabolic doc in TN! Ugh! Well, you know Dr. K will do right by you!

Remi and Riley start school on the 31st - I start on the 29th. Back to the routine we go...tomorrow we're headed to the Make-a-Wish picnic with some friends of ours. Should be fun...

Hope recovery is smooth and you find peace with a solution for the reflux. One of our boys had the Ladd's procedure done ( a year ago last week!) for malrotation. We didn't do a Nissen. Recovery was hard, but actual vomitting has been eliminated (except for one hospitalization). (Don't mean to be confusing-he was vomitting because his stomach couldn't empty properly due to the wacky intestinal arrangement. He can still vomit, as he didn't have the Nissen. But doesn't as the stomach is emptying better.) So, was a real blessing. It didn't help with his reflux as much as the ped pulmo had hoped. Still on many meds for asthma and reflux. But has made daily life (and school) much much easier for us. Hang in there!

Deb -- So happy that you and Gaige are home (there's no place like home, there's no place like home)! It really is so hard to find a good peds hospital, where everyone knows what the heck is going on. Unfortunately, with our complex kids, docs often can't seem to get a grip! Our prayers are with you all. We know how very difficult it must be for Gaige to be in the hospital. We will pray for a quick return home for we know that that is what will help a lot. I love your website. I also enjoyed the update. I have a comment on these emotional days you mentioned, especially concerning Andrew meeting True. My father died back in 1988 before most of my children were born and I would lament over his absence in meeting and knowing his grandchildren. My father came to me in a vision a few years ago, after the birth of my last daughter. He told me that he had met her before I had. He even told me that he knew of her talents. From his description, he had to have known her and he's watching us now. It gave me comfort for him to have met all of my children because he's in heaven and they are sent to me from heaven. So in essence, Andrew already knew True. Because of his connection in heaven, he even knew you would be True's parents. Andrew had the opportunity to meet True even before you did. Be Blessed!
