Hello Katie - I knew you years ago at Edmondson Elementary School. As soon as I saw your name I remembered you. I taught second grade and fifth grade there. I had no idea you had gone through ALL. My little granddaughter, Lily, was just diagnosed with ALL on 12/1/08. I saw a photo of you with Dr. Mike - and he is also one of Lily's doctors. I've been researching various sites and reading many, many CaringBridge websites of children from Vanderbilt Children's Hospital - and I eventually came across you.

I'm so glad you're doing well. I will share your story with Lily tomorrow. I remember seeing "Katie's Helping Hand" at the hospital - and now I know who Katie is! That's so cool!

Lily's website is http://caringbridge.org/visit/lilyhensiek.

Hi Katie!

I send you greetings from the Furtick family now in South Carolina. I recently found out that my step-mom's grandson Nikko was diagnosed with leukemia. He's 3 and lives in the Washington DC area. I couldn't help but think about all that you and your family have been through. I read through the Katie's Helping Hand page on the Vandy site. Pretty amazing work you've done to help other people going through this. Just know that we haven't forgotten about what a truly special person you are. I miss your smile! And if you get a chance - tell Zach and Matthew hello from all of us... your mom and dad too!

Love from Cathy, Paul, Ben, Josh and David

Hi there!
Lisa Lowrey, Kambryn's mom, and I have set up a Vanderbilt Children's Hemonc Forum for our families, past and present, to get together and chat. Our hope is that we can have a place for families going through active treatment to get to know each other... families whose kids are done with treatment can talk about what's next and families with angels to connect for friendship and support. We also hope to start raising awareness for Childhood Cancer here in Middle Tennessee as well as help the families going through active treatment. Basically this is one solid place to connect and hopefully help find a cure for this horrible cancer that has drawn our families together. Check it out and let us know what you think. If you have any ideas or questions we would love to hear them! Also, please feel free to pass this info along to other Vanderbilt families... I know I have missed several, so the more we get the word out the better the forum will be! We hope to see you over there!

Hello, what a great thing to do! We were at Vanderbilt for two weeks through November, 2007. My 16 year old daughter was diagnosed with a very rare stage 4 cancer (Juvenile Granulosa Cell Tumor) It was the first case Vanderbilt had seen, they told us our children's hospital in Knoxville could give her the same chemos they would so we came home to get the chemos, (3 very harsh toxic ones, Cisplatin, Etoposide, and Bleomycin) but we really had no other choices, the doctor here says she would have not lasted more than two months at the rate it was spreading and in the places it was (tumors), organs and around her aorta and renal vessel, so we have been here going to the doctor and every 3rd week she has chemo for 5 days straight in the hospital. She can walk now, where she could not before which shows something is working, (most of her lumbar are or were covered in tumors they were eating away at the bones, her L-1 was just a shell filled with tumor so all that has to heal too, but we will not really know if it is all gone until after this next treatment (should start 1-14-08), then we will do all the MRIs or PET scans, whatever we need to do to make sure it is in remission. We know it will return, which is horribly scary, but now we will know what to be looking for and hopefully catch it early, she has been going to doctors since most of the summer trying to find out what was wrong, there is so much more to this story, but I will leave it at that. I would love to do something like this for our hospital here, it is not even close to the service, cleanliness and niceness of Vanderbilt, it was quite a shock, but it is the only place here to get the chemos and her doctor is great, he is from St. Jude. After this last stay, our room was right above the ER and our room smelled like cigarette smoke most of the time, (Yes there are signs all around the ER and hospital saying no smoking) and we are all allergic to it, so that didn't help, along with some people being really rude for no reason, I was so irritated I asked the doctor if he worked at another hospital, but I keep saying only 5 more days... I hope anyway... If the test do not come back as totally clear we will have to add on two more treatments which mean 15 more days but the bad thing is she could become deaf from the chemos or get another incurable cancer. So we will see what happens. She was in the hospital the entire week of Christmas and the Thursday before her Grandfather died unexpectedly from lung cancer, he was at a special hospital in Chicago, they had put his port in that morning and by that night they were about to give him his first chemo and he died before they got it started. Ashlyn was very close to him and it was a real hard time for her, her father and brothers went to Georgia for the funeral the day after Christmas and she could not go so it was just me and her in the hospital the rest of the week. I has been some very rough months, it is extra hard to see kids with good hearts and just plain good kids get anything like this, it just doesn't seem right for you or for Ashlyn. Anyway, what I was saying about the hospital here, I would love to do something to help this place out! I knew in Vanderbilt we could get a tray, we usually ate downstairs, but here you have to pay for a tray when it is delivered, I know most people cannot afford this. Is there any information you can send to me to tell me how to go about getting it started here? (Knoxville, TN) We are in the hospital 5 days at the time every 3rd week unless her counts get too low or she gets sick which has happened, so we are there a lot!

I guess I'm not too shy, we were going into the clinic, the nurses have to come down to get her in a wheel chair to take her up to the clinic area (this is what they call the doctor's office she goes to) there were 3 people right there leaned up against the wall with a no-smoking sign on it, smoking.. Isn't that nice, well I parked my car, I'm pretty young although this is making me old fast, the guy was checking me out, made me mad, he said hello, I said, Hi, isn't that nice, my daughter with cancer just had to be wheeled up into the hospital going right by people smoking, I'm sure that will help her cancer! And just kept walking on in... He lowered his head in shame... Well they weren't there when we left, lol.

Thank you for your help, I am sorry this is so long! If you are driving now, you and Ashlyn are close in age, (Her B-day is 6-13-91) maybe you have things in common, besides cancer and wigs... Lol, that part didn't bother her, thankfully, she is a pretty girl but she wasn't worried about losing her hair. Thank you for your time! Ashlyn's Mom, Sandra (again, sorry so long)

Katie:

You have been an inspiration to me since your father told me about your charity. As we are now in the midst of our own pediatric cancer story with our three year old(http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/mirandabeamer), your focus on others may even end up helping us personally.

I would certainly not wish cancer on anyone, but some wear it better than others. You have worn it with a great courage and sense of compassion. I am certain God is smiling now.

Hi Katie! My name is Gena Andrews! I met your mom a few weeks ago when she came up to Chicago to help us with our inventory. I work at lifeway there on the campus of Moody Bible Institute. She began sharing with me your story and I intern shared mine! When I was 18mths old I was diagnosed with AML Leukemia. Doctors gave me only weeks to live but after many prayers and lots of faith God performed a miracle in my life and I was healed! I want you to know that I am so excited to hear about you through your mom. I think your an amazing girl and I know that God has amazing plans for your life. I can already see it by the things you are already doing to help others. You have an amazing testimony and I pray that you keep sharing it with others, like your doing, to bring them the same hope you have! I will be praying for you and your continued recovery. Hi Katie - I just finished a fabulous, FREE lunch here at the Vanderbilt Children's Hospital thanks to your kindess and generosity - thank you so very much! My son, Ryan, is here for chemo and the nurse shared with me how I could receive lunch because of you :). Ryan is 4 1/2 yrs. old and it is difficult getting out to get anything to eat - so it was so wonderful to be able to order my lunch with his, he doesn't like to be left alone and I don't like to leave him - we enjoyed eating together! You are a precious young lady - may God continue to pour out many, many blessings upon you and your family. I believe I remember reading an article about you in a Lifeway magazine (maybe ParentLife?)a good while back - I remember thinking what a special gal you must be. Little did I know that one day I would be benefit from your giving spirit as our family travels a similar journey that yours has gone down. We praise Him with your family for your healing!

This is Julie, your counselor from NaCoMe. I was so excited to see your picture and the article about Katie's Helping Hands in some random paper we got in the mail today. We moved to Franklin at the first of July and I ended up taking the job at the Hemostasis and Thrombosis Clinic (that's the official name). The clinic is on the 6th floor of the Doctor's office tower right across from the cancer center. Next time you come, please email me and I'll give you my office number. I would love to see you! It sounds like you are doing well. I hope to talk to you soon!

Katie,
I read all about your story in the magazine ParentLife and was so humbled by your caring and giving heart. You are going through so much at such a young age, yet you still think of others and their needs, not your own. You are a very special girl and I know that God will bless you enormously for all you are doing. I will commit to pray for you and your family daily and would love to contribute to "katie's helping hand" God bless you!

Katie, It has certainly been a long time since we have seen you, but Mr. Herman (Indian Princess), Lindsay(Edmondson Elementary), and I (Girl Scouts), have all had you in our thoughts & prayers. You have such an amazing & inspirational gift, that we can all learn from. We recently sponsored a self defense class for our 8th grade girls that attend Brentwood Middle, and requested that the girls make a contribution to Katies Helping Hand instead of paying for the class. It occurred to me that there are many creative ways to involve kids in helping others, and my hope is that everyone in our community uses this same ability! Our Family's Love to Yours! Tari Herman

Hey Katie
I, along with my daughter Wendy, enjoyed seeing you at the Country Music marathon race in April--in the tent--along with your family--except for your mom who just seems to be so not nice to me. I mighta been a little bit sweaty at the time! I truly was sorry I could not have come to the supper the night before for the speech. Just too much going on at the time. She did let me read it a few days before. It was really cool.

Just wanted you to know I am very sorry about your grandmother. Your mom was obviously down when she came by work this morning. I liked her--your grandmother, that is. Your mom and she took me out to lunch a long time ago, I think not too long after your mom started to work at LifeWay. We had a big time. I've seen her a couple times since then and also talked with her on the phone a time or two. I (snicker) called her Mom. Your mom & I have decided we were separated at birth because we are a lot a like (except for the accent--your mom still talks funny!). Any way, just wanted you to know I sent a little gift to Katie's Helping Hand as an honor to her--your grandmother, that is, not your mom.

Heard you were at LifeWay the other day. Of course your mom thought of it on the following day & told me that I had missed seeing you. She's forgetful like that.

Your mom conned me into playing a trick on one of her co-workers Wednesday. She was so excited how great the trick worked. Her eyes were just dancing around with delight! She was really living in the moment! Then the next day I hear news I didn't want to hear.

Well, I know things will be different now. Just give extra love to your family. Patience for all.

I think of you often.
Love
Bill

Hi Katie,

I saw you at church Sunday. You are looking pretty in purple. I love that color. I just want to let you know that even though at times its hard to express face to face how much you are thought of, my prayers and thoughts are with you. You are a brave girl and a model for us all. Good luck to you on the first day of school. I hope you get to ride the bus! I know its a big deal to ride the bus on your own. Hang in there.
I'm embarrassed to say I haven't donated to your Helping Hand Fund before now but finally I'm getting a donation in the mail. Maybe in some small way, it will help other families. You are incredible to think of others when you are sick. You are a good kid. Hang in there.

We are so excited to find your site. We read about Katie through the Vanderbilt mailer that had the write up on Katie's Helping Hand. What an awesome way to bless others. Our 5 year old daughter has had me read that artical to her over and over again and has asked many times how you are doing and now we can check and let you know we are praying for you. Every night since, she has lifted you up in her prayers, she is also a soccer player. Praising God for your good reports.

i hope you have a good rest of the school year and please please do not hesitate to call or email if you need anything or just want to talk. i think your mom has my number. My family and i are praying for you.

Hi Katie,
This is the day the Lord hath made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
These are the words of our Lord, and I do know well, that some days are harder than others.
I hope this day proves to be a great one for you Katie.
I have read all about your "Katie's Helping Hands" charity and WOW, was I impressed! I know how much hospital stays can drain a family financially. We have been in that situation plenty of times, especially these last 8 months. One stay was for for 3 weeks and two others for a week at a time.
God's blessings to you dear, for reaching out and thinking of others, when life is already hard enough for you.

Hey Katie,

Nothing wrong with a wheelchair, kiddo! I used to have to use one of those motorized ones... I could not even turn the wheels on a regular one. Fortunately, I did regain the ability to walk (or perhaps I should say *FORCED* myself to do it! I was in a wheelchair for about a year, and walking is still very hard for me. When I go to the grocery or Wal-Mart, I always have to get one of those little motorized carts. So here's praying that your need for a wheelchair will be a very short one, but remember to "drive" safely... no "racing" up and down the hallway, LOL! I will be praying for you, sweetheart.

I found your link on our website (Bridgeofdreams.org), and learned of the wonderful work you are doing with the fund.
What an amazing girl you are! My son does not have cancer however but does have many medical problems, and we have had to stay at the hospital for long periods of time, and know how hard it is when you cannot connect with the rest of your family, or keep what little strength you have up by eating, because you have no money to eat.
You are a special young lady, and you will be rewarded one day, much more than you can ever be here on Earth!
Stay strong!

Oh Katie I am SO glad you are home! That is WONDERFUL news! I was also wondering if you have any fliers about your charity that I might can put up for you? I was talking to a nice man the other day about Katie's Helping Hands while I was getting my hair done . He is the owner of a Chik-Fil-A franchise here in town and was so inspired by your story. He mentioned wanting to do something to help raise money for the hospital. So I called Vandy and put them in touch with him. My prayer is that they can work something out and hopefully more money will go for a great cause. I just wanted to share that with you so that you can be assured that what you are doing is really making a difference! Let me know about the fliers and I will be glad to send you my address. I will do anything I can to help you out.

Thanks,

If you see Patsy (Lawson's favorite nurse!) tell her that we said hello! Maybe we can meet you in person some day. We are at Vandy a lot and we always go by and see his nurses when we are there. Get some rest and know that God is in control!

I hope you are feeling better. Also, congratulation on being named Girl of the Year 2005. I received your letter for Man of the Year 2005 candidates the other day. I will display this letter in a visible location to inspire me to do all I can to raise as much money as possible. In your words "Take this opportunity to step up to the plate and give your all to raising funds for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society." Your spirit of selflessness has touched me more than you wil ever know.
P.S. I think Katie's Helping Hand is a great charity and can't wait to make a donation.

You are in my prayers and I hope with all of my heart that this is just a virus making your counts go down. I got your link from Kristi (Lawson's Mom) and I wanted to come by and meet the young Lady that has such a wonderful heart and wants to help people during a time that she has her own struggles. katie,
i am a nurse at vanderbilt orthopedic unit.
my son had cancer when he was 2 years old. he is now 18.
after luke got sick, i could barely say the word cancer
and i never wanted to even speak about it.
friday night i came home from vandy, watched the news and
saw your story.
all these years, i had tucked away so many feelings of
lukes cancer. it was selfish but until now, i have not
been a supporter of any cancer fund.
your story brought me to me knees. i cried and cried because
i knew what it felt like to be in the hospital and not
have any money for food for myself.
i can remember when luke was in the isolation unit once
for 17 days.....i was desperate. the nurses were angels and
shared their own food to help feed me.
it was a horrible experience.
the reason i am writing to you is i have now found a way
that i can give back. your fund has touched me in a way
that i can now give to help cancer families.
i am prepared to make a donation.
please send me the address where i can send a check.
thank you beverly hoadley

Hi Katie, I just saw your story on Channel 5 News and WHAT AN INSPIRATION!!! This is the first I have heard of your story and wish I had heard it sooner. You see, my son is a frequent patient at Vandy and it turns out that we were on the 6th floor at the same time as you! We were in room 6423 from Jan 10 through Jan 19th so it looks like we were just across the hall! If you by any chance saw a little 2 year old boy walking the halls in a diaper and cowboy boots, that would have been my son! You can visit his website: www.caringbridge.org/tn/lawson if you would like and I bet you had one of the same nurses we did, Patsy! Her picture is on his site too. Wow what a small world! Anyway, I have to say I have never been more inspired by anyone before and I think that what you are doing is WONDERFUL!!! I know that God will bless you for it. He has mighty plans for you in the future. I know how difficult it can be as a parent not being able to get a hot meal every day. Fortunately for me I had family and friends watching out for me, but not everyone is that lucky. I plan on donating to Katie's Helping Hands and will encourage others to as well. Thank you for being such a blessing to so many families and an inspiration to us all! Our family will keep you in our prayers.

Hey Katie...
I heard about your illness from Caitlin, and then I heard about your charity from my mom. Katie, you were always worried when someone fell. When we went to Edmondson together, everytime there was a storm I can remember you worrying about whether your brothers were okay and safe. Although we haven't seen eachother since Edmondson, I still remeber how fun and caring you were. Those were the good times before we got split up and sent to different schools... you went to Woodland, and I went to Brentwood Middle. My school is helping out with your charity right now. We have a "Pennies for Patients" box in every classroom. They get heavier everyday. some of us remember you, and others don't, but no matter whether the whole world know you, or just a small community outside of Nashville, you are still the amazing person I know you to be. I wish I could be there with you, but school calls my name... perhaps one day I'll see you again, just like old times. Call me whenever~home... 776-5023

Hello Mitchell Family - I have been attending your church off and on for the past couple of years. I was not aware of your situation until I returned to church this Sunday. Your story touched me deeply. I have a dear friend who lost her son (at age 11) to cancer a little over a year ago. He struggled with cancer at the age of 2 then it returned when he was 9. After fighting the good fight for 2 years, he made the decision that his life in heaven looked better than his life here on earth. He showed many adults (including myself) what living is all about, whether here or in heaven. He was an inspiration to so many. I had almost forgotten what I learned from him until Sunday. I am so proud to see you doing so well and extending yourself to so many. You are a smart, brave young lady. I will pray for you in your recovery and your mission to help others. Stay strong!

I am following your journey each day and a big prayer partner and fan. God is using you to touch many others.

Even though I am a stranger to you, I really think the wish of you making your Mom skydive is a good wish. I am Grandma Tracy's grandson. My Grandma Tracy is bald and she has lupus. Sometimes we have to remind her to put her wig on. Lupus makes your face have a lot of scars on it and scaly scars on her head won't let the hair grow back. None of this matters. She smiles a lot and helps me a lot. I have an annoying brother named Adam. He doesn't pay attention. My strongest Yu-Gi-Oh card is the Blue Eyes Toon Dragon. Okay, I'm back again. Just did it a bit backwards as I just saw your pictures. You are beautiful! Bald is beautiful, as my husband says. You brother Zach looks a lot like his Uncle Rick did and you are as beautiful as your Mom at that age! I haven't seen your Mom in nearly 30 years so that's the best reference I can come up with. I probably should have told you that I am your Mom's cousin through the Scott side of the family - your Grandmother Jean and my mother Pat are sisters. Hi Katie!!!
I read the article about you, and I think you are doing a wonderful thing. 7th Grade is pretty easy, the only things that were different is that enrichment is in 4th period, and math is in 7th period, and focus is 6th period. It feels really odd without you and Chris at Woodland, he goes to Brentwood Academy. I hope to see you at Woodland next year!!!

Hello Katie from the Salters in Chattanooga! James was finally was able to forward your Katie's Helping Hand website and it was the first we had seen of it. How impressive! We are sending our donation today (it's payday!) and want you to know you have been in our prayers the last few months. Little did we know you had taken it upon yourself even while you aren't feeling so well to raise funds for others that need it and I know that will be so appreciated by those families. Say hello to your Mom and James for us. Did Melissa ever skydive yet? I didn't see the follow up to that on your website. Love from all of us, Tam, Mike, Brittany, Paige and Ian.

Our family is praying for your recovery and you can and will beat this. You are a very lucky lady to have the strenght of your family, friends and your faith to guide you through this tough time. All of this will make you a stronger person and god has great things planned for you. Let us know if we can do anything for you.

Hi Katie! I'm glad to hear you are doing so well. My name is Jennifer & my Aunt Loraine is a friend of your grandmother. I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia in October 2002. I must endure 2 years of treatment & will be finished this October! I kinda think that you & I have the same type of leukemia due to the fact that both of us had to go through the spinals! I would say that they were difficult for me, but I came out a stronger person as you will too! In fact, you seem very strong to me for a 12 year old girl! Although hair is not as important as your health, it is sad to see it go. But...I read that you have not even lost your hair! That is wonderful and thank God! I lost my hair 10 days after treatment but it is back already! As you know, cancer is a difficult process, but it made me 100 times stronger and it will make you just as strong as well! Having a positive attitude is half the battle! If I could go back in time, I would definately keep the time in my life that I battled cancer! It made me stronger & it made me realize what is REALLY important in life (family, friends, God, HEALTH). If you EVER need to talk, my e-mail address is jenphil22@hotmail.com. My cell phone is 716-410-4164. I am so proud of you & will keep you in my prayers.

Great news, Katie. Really happy they have downgraded the level of concern of your illness. You have really been blessed. And the mom-jumping-out-of-the-plane thing... How interesting. She's flown plenty, but she has never gotten out before the plane rolled to a stop. What an interesting picture that brings to mind. Her eyes as big as saucers, her mouth wide open, and imagine the sound coming out...enough to scare every duck, goose, hawk, and buzzard away for miles!!!!!

Why shucks, she'll be a-sayin' how fearsome it was, right smack in the middle of the sky. And wondering why in the world she decided to jump. We-ell, nobody ever said she was right. She means well though. God bless all the rest of y'all for puttin' up with her.

Katie, sure glad you're doing better. I've laid off of pulling tricks on your mom with you being sick and all. I really need to larn her a thing or 2. She thinks she is so smart, trying to teach me good English. You may remember, that placemat from Gatlinburg she got all excited over. The one that has a vocabulary of regular words. Just 'cause she hadn't heard of them. I keep tryin' to larn her some good talkin'. I will say she was plum sweet to brang that menu back and put it in a frame for me. Fer the life of me, can't see why it reminded her of me.

Well, let me know if she really gets gutsy enough to jump. I wouldn't want to miss that. I know she loves you enough to want to jump. Talk about the Great American Scream Machine....! Ha! Just cover your ears!!!

Anyway, Katie, you've still got your 2 year program ahead of you, but you know it will be easier just knowing what you have been through already. We all thank God for your progress. And, just in case you need it, remember the orange mop-wig. It has a real "look" about it!

Pleasant thoughts and days ahead from the hay fields of Lascassas! Saaa-lute!!

Through this time you have thought of others and wanted to do for other people more than yourself. That is a true picure of what a beautiful young lady you are and what a wonderful family you come from. I'll be in Nashville on July 22nd to see Aunt Heath-AH....I hope to see and meet you that weekend. Take care of yourself and let me know how the sky diving idea takes off. Love ya, ro

Hi Katie,
I know your mom from some work our company does for her at Lifeway. I hate to admit this, but I'm one of the people she had dinner with here in Minnesota before she got so sick. (I think she still blames me for that). A few years ago your mom sent an autographed picture of Snow White to my disabled daughter. You wouldn't believe how thrilled Andrea was to open that special gift from her favorite Disney princess. I will never forget the kindness your mom showed for our family. She's a very special person.
I was crushed to hear of your illness and then thrilled to hear you would at least be staying at home through treatment. Your mom tells me you're a really tough kid, and I thought it might also help for you to know that there are alot of people here in Minnesota who are thinking of you and praying for you.
I have a little sister who went through chemo too, quite a few years ago. I never know if she's going to be a blonde, brunette, or red-head when I see her, since she has so many wigs. (None of them glow in the dark though) Lime green... How cool is that! Hang in there kiddo. We're all pulling for you. Your new friend - Steve

Hi Katie
My name is Kara, I'm 18 years old and in March I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. I've been going through chemotherapy for the past 3 months and the other day i got the news that my cancer was gone.
I'm not going to lie to you this is going to be one of the hardest things that your going to go through in your life, but if you keep a positive attitude it makes it so much easier, and you'll be so much stronger in the end.
When i first was diagnosed i didnt think that i would be able to do anything that a normal kid would be able to do, but i went to my senior prom and i also went on my senior trip. I was also really concerned about the whole losing my hair issue, but from reading your mothers entry it seems like you've pretty much accepted that. And after losing my hair i wish that i would have cut mine and givin it to locks of love, but i thought that maybe i wouldnt lose it so i kept it as long as possible, but in the end I did end up losing my hair & its not as bad as you would think it takes me like 10 minutes to get ready in the morning & i dont have to shave anymore.
This experiance has changed my life, but its also made me realize how preacious life actually is. I wish you all the luck in the world & i'll keep you in my prayers.
-Kara

Hi Katie,
As many people who have written to you, I also work with your mom. I would have been by to see you already, but I have been out of town. I'm coming today though! I want you to know that my son, Josiah has been praying for you every night. He is not 3 yet, and he hasn't had to be prompted once to pray for you! Every night (even when I was out of town), he said "we've gotta pray for Katie. She needs our prayers. And her mommy and daddy too." God hears all of these prayers, even those of a 2 year old with a big heart! We'll keep on praying and trusting our Big God! I hope to get to know you soon. much love to you, Kris (Ed and Josiah too)PS: I'm claiming Colossians 1:17. Maybe you will too.

Hey Katie
I will try to visit today. Maybe you will remember having seen me at your mom's workplace a couple times. I have already sent up the Secret Service to scout out the hospital and make everything safe. Just teasing. However, after today, you will be able to say that while you were in Vanderbilt Childrens Hospital, President George W. Bush made a visit there. I hope I can get through the security. I am sure they will let me in. I am sure I must be as important as he is. OK, maybe not! Ha! Your mom tells me you will be changing your hairstyle. I like ball caps myself. However, remember the wig your mom brought home about Christmas time. Yeah, that one. I thought it particularly attractive also, though I'm not sure about that shade of orange for you. Anyway, just maybe she will let you borrow it if you can get her in a good mood. Because she sure seemed to really like it. Well...at least she said something like there was no other wig like it, or she could not imagine anyone else wearing it, or some kind of compliment like that. Any rate, Katie, just wanted you to know you have been in my thoughts and prayers lately. And I figure you are going to be fine. You'll have to get through some unpleasant times for a bit. But you have a great God and family and loads of other good people to help you through it all. "Sa-lute" from Lascassas!

Katie, this is MamaT. That's what my 5 grand children call me. Just want you to know that you and your family are in my prayers. I've just returned from a mission trip to Japan and there was a young boy there, Micah Cooksey, who is 10 years old. He was such a huge help to our team. He's the oldest son of Ronnie and Kathy Cooksey, who are IMB missionaries in Japan. Micah went out each day with us and helped us share Jesus with the Japanese people. He actually interpreted for us. We would speak in English and he would translate in Japanese for us. Pray for Micah and his family as they live in Japan and share Jesus with the Japanese people. I will tell Micah and his family to remember you in their prayers. You see, Katie, even 10 year old boys can help with sharing Jesus. I know that you will be a blessing to those around you as you go through this difficult time. It's wonderful to see children helping adults. We are always blessed when a young person helps us understand about life. You have a wonderful opportunity to encourage those around you, even though you are so young. Thank you for helping us know how to pray for you. Love and hugs, MamaT.

Katie-You are in for a tough fight, but you are not in it alone! God has put some very special people into your life to help give you courage and strength to fight. He loves you very much and will carry you in His loving arms. There will be scary times and sad times--I have asked Jesus to send you a special angel to help. Mom and Daddy Jim told me about Maribelle-so it looks like that prayer has already been answered. You are on our prayer chain here in Fredonia. Love from the very bottom of my heart, Gramma B

Katie, I work with your sweetie friend Heathaaaaa. What a trip she is!!! She has shared with me the path you are now taking. Be bold and possitive that God is there holding you and lifting you up. Ask God for peace and it will keep you smiling. As I read all the comments so many people have made in your support today I know through prayer you are going to do and be great when this is over.
