Mr. Mike and I have been praying a lot this week...for you, Joshua. We were glad to hear that you had good results on blood tests and other tests, and now we hope to hear good results of your scope, too.
"Lord, we are still asking for, believing for, and expecting a complete miracle healing of Joshua's WHOLE body...and for no more pain to be anywhere in his body. In the name of Jesus we pray, amen."
We love you, Joshua.

WOW! What wonderful news about you, Joshua! Sooo happy to hear that your diet and foods, including goat's milk, are helping you to feel much better and to have more energy, too! Thank You, Jesus!

Glad to hear that you mom is doing better after her 'surprise' visit to the hospital herself!! Praise the Lord for taking good care of BOTH of you!

We rejoice in this journey with Jesus as He continues to give us all 'joy in the journey' with Him...amen? AMEN!

Love you ALL sooo much,

Hi Leslie and Joshua,

Even though you don't hear from me much, I continue to keep up with your website and how all of you are doing! I am Whitney Tuck's mom--you might remember me from Vanderbilt as Whitney and you were in the hospital at the same time. I am so glad to hear of your progress with the change of foods! You are all such an inspiration to us!

Dear Joshua,

How blessed you are to have a mom who not only is smart when it comes to nutrition for you, she is able to find the right foods, cook them to taste good (as possible), and she makes sure that you have a variety so you won't get tired of eating the same old thing all the time. She is amazing! I know that you already know this, but it is time somebody shouts it out and praises the Lord for giving her to you! Amen? AMEN! Let's have a 'shout out' for LESLIE NIENOW!!

Glad to hear that the meds and special diet are helping you to feel better and have more energy, too.

You'll have to come to see our 'new' home in Columbia, if we ever get these mountains of boxes emptied!! We moved last Monday, March 15, and I woke up with a kidney infection on Thursday! That definitely put a halt in my working very much for awhile. I have tried to work a few hours each day, but by supper-time, I am exhausted and hurting again. I have tried to be good today and rested, but it is so hard...when I want to put 'every little thing' in its special place. Pray for me, too.

Love you so much,
Mrs. Sisse

Well, it sounds more like biology class than fine dining...I'm praying it all makes a HUGE difference in Joshua's health & life. Leslie, have you ever considered swithching from Caringbridge to writing a blog instead? You write so well and have so much to share. This site seems somewhat limiting for you. Just a thought...

Dear Joshua,

I wanted to thank you for the beautiful rosebuds you and Sam bought for me. When Same came to help Mr. Mike with some of the packing we are doing for our 'big move back to Columbia'...he surprised me with the Valentine roses, and he told me that they were from you, too. I put both of them in a vase in my bedroom by my bed, so that I can see them first thing in the morning and last thing at night. They are so beautiful, and they smell good, too!

You and Sam have always been so thoughtful, and I thank Jesus that He (and your parents) have allowed me to be your Godmother. I love you both so much!

I hope you are feeling much better and able to do more everyday. I pray for your strength to be improving and for the neuropahty to be weakening, so that soon you will have no more pain. You are already a 'walking, talking, miracle of God' and He isn't finished with you yet!

May you have a sweet Valentine's day, too.
Love,
Mrs. Sisse

Franklin, but soon to be Columbia, TN again, - Saturday, February 13, 2010 1:17 AM CST
Yes, Leslie Nienow...I agree with sweet Sue that YOU ARE ONE OF THE MOST AMAZING MOMS I HAVE EVER KNOWN, AND YOU ARE DOING ALL THAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP YOUR SON TO BE ALL THAT HE CAN BE.

We will continue to be your 'cheerleaders' right along side of you, too.

I still remember us praying when all this began, and I prayed for you to have 'joy on the journey' the Lord had set before you. Do you remember that?

I know that the Lord is able to continue to give you and Joshua His joy on this long journey of seeking good health in this life...and I will continue to ask Him to surround you all with His joy...on this journey!

I keep hearing the Lord to ask me to remind you that 'the joy of the Lord is your strength'...and He is going to strengthen you with His joy.

Love you,
Sisse

Leslie, you have done and continue to do an EXCELLENT job of helping and caring for your son. You have walked each step of this journey in faith and courage. Don't let discouragement try to steal your peace. By God's grace, you will get this new regiment worked out!

Finally, we have a diagnosis from the tests!!
We are praying:

"Lord, Jesus, Jehovah Ropha, Our Healer, we call on YOU again to give wisdom to the doctors as to what is the best way to face this problem. We know that YOU are LIFE, and everything about YOU is LIFE. We ask that Your life-giving blood that was shed on the cross would now heal his blood and/or the parts of his body that are not working according to Your plans.

Your word says that 'we have not, because we ask not', so we are asking and believing that it is Your will that Joshua will be totally and completely healed to live his life as a living testimony of Your healing power. We thank YOU for Your next miracle that is starting to happen in his life right now! We praise YOU even before we see the fruit of these prayers that he will live out the days of his life on earth and live them well !

We also thank YOU for giving him your grace to face every thing that comes at him throughout his life...and in every victory he (and we) will continue to give all the glory to YOU!

In Your holy name of Jesus of Nazareth we pray. Amen."

It was so wonderful to see you on Sunday. I didn't realize how much I had missed all of you. Josh I pray that you continue to heal. Rebecca's wedding pictures were great! She is a beautiful bride (as if there could be any question). Sam, good luck at school! I hope you had a wonderful Wisconsin vacation. Keep in touch!

So glad to get this update...I check several times a week, and it was good to hear that Josh has enjoyed the dancing lessons although the pain he endures afterwards is not a very good 'reward' for all that hard work.

We love you, Joshua Nienow...and please know that you are never far from our thoughts and always in our hearts.

Have a blessed day enjoying this beautiful springtime weather in Tennessee...where the tulips, buttercups, phlox, forsythia yellow bushes, and even my iris are blooming reminding us of your 'new life' that continues to thrill all who know and love you! We will continue to pray for your 'complete healing', believing that it will come.

We speak this prayer: "Lord, Jesus, we declare in Your name for Thy kingdom to come, Thy will to be done, on earth in Joshua's body, as it is in heaven. Amen."

We sure would like to see photos of Joshua, Rebecca, Matt, Sam,and the rest of the wedding party on this website. Can you post those soon?
Joshua looked so handsome, Sam was the perfect gentleman, and of course...the bride was gorgeous! The groom is definitely God's choice for Rebecca, and we are so proud of all that God is doing in each member of our God-family!

We loved seeing old friends from New Life, and it was lots of fun to watch everyone dancing, especially the Disco King: Les Nienow! Where does he get all of that energy?? :^)

Anyway, for those who did not get to join all of us, you missed a wonderful day of celebration and love...but maybe you can soon view the GREAT photos that were made that day...when they post them on this website (hint, hint).
Love you all,

We are sooo excited for you, Joshua, and your whole family! Praise God from whom ALL BLESSINGS FLOW, and they are really flowing right now on this celebration of five years with no cancer for Joshua!!!

We love your powerful testimony that you have just shared, Joshua. In the book of Revelation, it says that "We shall overcome by the blood of the lamb and the word of our testimony", and YOUR TESTIMONY IS AWESOME!!! It is definitely an 'overcomer's testimony' and will bring hope to all who read and/or hear it!

We love you and are thankful to Jesus for letting us see you become a true MAN of God!

After several months of our personal sicknesses, surgeries, saying good bye to my mother, and trying to find some routine in our lives again...we are finally signing your guestbook again. I have continued to read your updates, but I haven't felt like writing, so please forgive me.
Mr. Mike and I have just returned from a week in Florida with our kids and 6 grandkids. We had so much fun with all of them! The ocean water was very cold, but they toughed it out with chattering teeth and shivers...playing in the edge of the water, building sand castles and little ponds to play in. Their being 10,8,6,4,4,& 1 years old made for lots of action around the house, too. I'm sure that we made lots of memories we will talk about for years to come.
May Jesus continue to give you strength as you go about your day to day life of REALLY LIVING AGAIN! We pray for healthier days ahead for you (Joshua)and Sam, too.
We love you all,

Dear Josh, Here is pastoral counsel for you that I came upon in my regular Spurgeon rotation. It concerns the coarse language you are encountering out there "in the world." This is just a tiny part of an excellent sermon on "dart" or "arrow" prayers. From the example of Nehemiah we learn that no time is too short, nor words too few to pray to our heavenly Father.

EJACULATORY PRAYER

DELIVERED ON LORD’S-DAY EVENING, SEPT. 9TH, 1877,
BY C. H. SPURGEON,
AT THE METROPOLITAN TABERNACLE, NEWINGTON,
“So I prayed to the God of heaven” (Nehemiah 2:4).

Are you at work at the bench, or in a shop, or a warehouse,
where lewd conversation and shameful blasphemies assail your ears? Now
for a short prayer. Have you noticed some sin that grieves you? Let it
move you to prayer. These things ought to remind you to pray. I believe
the devil would not let people swear so much if Christian people always
prayed every time they heard an oath. He would then see it did not pay.
Their blasphemies might somewhat be hushed if they provoked us to
supplication.

Love and prayers, Mimi and Papa

From Mimi's diary on Saturday 2-8-03 when Josh was in the hospital and had not been able to eat for a long time: "We called Josh who answered the hospital phone and was dressed and had been walking in the halls AND had a banquet of water, ice, Sprite and 2 jellos -- red and green. (I drew pictures of the 3 glasses and 2 jellos in my diary). Lester said he (Josh) looked at it like it
was a Thanksgiving meal and gave thanks. Josh was looking forward to
keeping broth down at "suppertime" and BRAT— banana, rice, applesauce, toast—diet soon. Our best news on an otherwise gloomy, damp, chilly 55° day..." Praise the Lord for the latest (2-8-08) Journal entry!

Dearest Nienow family ~ There have been many times that our family reflected on that terrible day in December, five years ago, when we got the news that Joshua was diagnosed with leukemia. It seemed to us, that suddenly everything was dizzying and in slow motion. We were desperately grieved and stunned. Joshua and your family then became an even greater part of our nightly prayers with our family for these years. We cannot express enough to our heavenly Father, how grateful we are to see the progress that He has gifted Joshua with. We don't stop praying and we thank God for His mercy and girding your beautiful family with strength. We thank God and celebrate with you, as we remember those very dark times and how He has brought you through them. With all love and wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a blessed new year. love,

As is our practice, when Ray and I sit down to our "juicetime" each evening, I read diary entries "on this day" 15, 10, 5 years ago. We, too, revisited that stunning, in the most basic sense of the word --to mind and body--information....."Josh has leukemia." It has indeed been, as one doctor told Lester and he told us, a marathon, not a sprint. But praise God, he gave Leslie that wonderful attitude that she and all the family would try to learn all our loving God had to teach us, encapsulated in the phrase and the expectation that our dear Father would give us "joy in this journey." What a perfect motto for all of our earthly pilgrimage as we walk it with Jesus, with stones in our shoes sometimes and the refreshing and strenghtening food of Scripture—as we are faithful to meet the Lord there in our love letter from home every day—always. Let us all "keep our chins on the windowsill of Heaven" even as we "occupy till He comes" here and now.

Joshua,
I just wanted to take a moment and tell you that you will do fine with the colonoscopy exam. They put you to sleep and I will be praying that you will dancing with the angels the whole time you are 'under' for the test. I will also pray this for Sam when he has his surgery on that soon to be 'perfect and completely healed' knee.
"Lord, we ask that You, our Jehovah Ropha, will heal every infirmity that the enemy has put on us or in us. We say, They Kingdom come, Thy will be done in each of us on earth, as it is in heaven...in Jesus name, amen."
Love you all,

Praying right now at 3:35 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Sept. 16...
"Lord, it is not by coincidence that I have just checked Joshua's website to see how he is doing. I believe that You sent me there this afternoon, because of this request for prayer. Lord, we lift him up to You in this moment and in the week to come. We are asking again for his complete healing. We speak to that sickness, disease, pain, or attack from the enemy that is trying to shut him down...just when his life seems to be going 'up'...in the name of Jesus, we speak healing...we take authority over that attack in his colon and other parts of his body that are not well...and we bind that, believing in Your name, Jesus, that he is healed. You said that we would do even greater things than this, Lord...and we haven't even healed the sick yet! Lord, let Joshua be a sign and a wonder to all who see and hear him as he works at the Thrift Store and anywhere he goes. We pray...Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, in Joshua on earth as it is in heaven. In Jesus' name, amen."

Heya Josh! How's it going bro? Just thought I'd stop by and fill you in on what's up in my life lately. College starts back up tomorrow...I'm going to be a sophomore, and after I get through with my general education classes this year, I'll be entering into a specialized school of nursing (yeah, believe it or not, I'll be a nurse!). My schedule is pretty busy lately, but I'm trying to handle it :). Anyways, like I said, I just thought I'd let you know what's going on with me. God bless, you're in my prayers bro.

Joshua,

You are amazing! You are such an encouragement to any and all of us who think that WE have 'problems'. Thank you for encouraging US! We will try to remember what you said, "The greater the problem, the greater the miracle!" AMEN! What a witness of His love and peace YOU are! May you always share your story with others...as it gives great hope to many who are suffering. They may not have health problems, but most people have some kind of 'problem' in their lives, and you have continued to keep your eyes on Jesus and challenged all of us to do the same...just by the way you face your day-to-day struggles and challenges.

Praise the Lord that the mole was benign and that the rash on your back is healing now! We will continue to ask Jehovah Ropha, our healer, for a complete healing of the neuropathy, too.

Also, we want to bless your mother. Leslie, your journals have continued to be very informative and helpful in giving us ways to pray for all of you, as ALL of you go through this with Joshua. Keep up the good work in journaling, eventhough you might not see too many guestbook entrys...people are watching, reading, and still praying for all of you.

I hope you have not been out in this dangerously hot weather. AND I know that it is hard to watch your beautiful flower garden suffering, too. We pray that the heat will soon move out, and cool breezes will move in for us as well as our gardens...amen? AMEN!

Mr. Mike and I just celebrated our 36th wedding anniversary in Destin, FL. We were there for a few days resting on the beach by the ocean. It was sooo hot, like it is here in TN, but the ocean breezes were wonderful!

Hope to see you soon. Love and hugs to everyone,

WOW! That is GREAT that you all had such a wonderful time doing the 'deep sea fishing thing' while on your trip. I can't believe that you caught so many cool fish and other creatures. I know that your grandmother is a great cook, so of course the meal of fish (that you had caught yourself) was one you two will never forget!

Hope you did not get sunburned this time, too.

We were able to go to The Call for 12 hours on Saturday. It was sooo AWESOME! Imagine us being with about 50,000 to 100,000 believers worshipping, praying, and crying out to God to forgive us for the many ways we have sinned! It was one of the most awesome days of our lives, for sure!

Mr. Mike and I really enjoyed getting to minister in the Father/Mother Blessing tent, too.

Love you, Mrs. Sisse & Mr. Mike

Dear Joshua,
We were so sorry to hear that you are having to be in the hospital again. However, we are thankful that the medicine and good care that you always receive there, will be abundant for the latest battle of: CHICKEN POX!
We are praying for you..."Precious and powerful Jesus, we thank you for giving the doctor the knowledge to diagnose this disease, but we ask You, JEHOVAH RAPHA, our Healer, to touch Him as only you can do...and totally and completely heal him of that and the neuropathy, too. We believe that You will. In Jesus' name, Amen."
May you soon feel much better, sweet Joshua.
We have been down here in Destin for a few days with our kids and six grandkids...enjoying the weather, the beach, the pool...and each other, too.
We'll also be praying for your trip to Florida to be lots of fun!
Love you soooo much,

WOW! WHAT A GLORIOUS DAY WE HAD AT YOUR GRADUATION AND CELEBRATION, JOSHUA!
We were so proud of you as the chaplain of your senior class. The other members of your class were also outstanding...especially the ones who gave speeches. May you all live your lives to His glory and as shining witnesses to His faithfulness. YOU are one of the brightest stars in this class of 2007, and we thank Jesus for His healing in you. We will continue to pray for the pain of neuropathy to completely leave your body as you grow in Him, in Jesus' name.
We loved getting to see you and all of our precious friends at New Life Church yesterday. We didn't know that you also had the talent of 'Sound Man'. GREAT JOB! Seeing (and hearing) Rebecca as the worship leader was a dream we all knew would one day come true, and it has. We always knew that the little girl who wanted lots of 'back scratches' at the age of 4, sang her heart out at every Christmas play and talent show fellowship dinner would someday be a "Hillsongs Singer" and she is!
Then staying after church to see Sam with his dad in the blow-up 'boxing ring' (still there after the weekend youth conference) was lots of fun, too!
Love you all,
Mrs. Sisse & Mr. Mike

Thanks so much for inviting me to your oral defense 'test'. I was sooo proud of you, and I don't think I could have done that! It was as if you were being tested for your doctorate in college!!!
Your graduation pictures are awesome, too. Be sure to post them on this website so everyone can view them. You look like you did before your battle with leukemia...except you look a little more mature...~;^)
Elliott Andrews graduates this coming Saturday from Zion, too. I can't believe that so many of our 'boys' are growing up and will no longer be considered 'boys'...boo-hoo! Godmothers have to let go, too...so I will try to do my best.
Praying for a healthy, happy, safe, enjoyable, no-pain kind of summer for you...sweet Joshua,

Joshua is obviously a brave and gifted young man. Haiving periphreal neuraopaty my self, at the age of 47; I cannot imagine a young man the age of Joshua going thru this. My prayers are with you my friend. I spoke with Joshua's father, a very persoanable and kind man, and when I learned his son, Joshua had this disorder, my heart sank. God is strong, and we find our strenghts thru God, and his children. Supporting each other is vital to a healing process of a nation which has deteriorated over the years. It's individuls who count. Not statistics, not politics; for these have no bearing or provide no comfort for one in pain. Joshua. God bless you. You have a great dad, who loves you very much, and now me as a friend and a minister; if only to be a supporter by prayer, I am with you. God bless
