Dear Rhonda, I have had an interesting morning, and I am so glad that all has turned out well. I hope you are well and happy today. I am thinking of you, and of your dear sunshine boy, Connor Jordan Hunley. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Collect For Feast Of Edmund Of East Anglia, King And Martyr, 20 November 870: O God of ineffable mercy, who gave grace and fortitude to blessed Edmund the king to triumph over the enemy of his people by nobly dying for your Name: Bestow on us your servants the shield of faith, with which we can withstand the assaults of our ancient enemy; through Jesus Christ our Redeemer, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Thursday, November 20, 2008 1:50 PM CST Dear Rhonda, The ladybug is on another part of the lamp shade. I guess it likes it here, in our computer area. It certainly makes me think of your little animal doctor, Connor. I hope you are doing well. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Wednesday, November 19, 2008 8:35 PM CST Dear Rhonda, Last night, I spotted a ladybug on the shape of my lamp, here on my computer table. Of course, I thought of your lovebug, Connor. May God bless you both. I hope you are thinking about a good Thanksgiving. Perhaps you can attend a community service, as we plan to do. On Monday the church honored Margaret of Scotland, who was the queen in the children's hymn I often quote, "I Sing a Song of the Saints of God." Today, we honor Elizabeth of Hungary. Both used their high place in life to serve those in need, honoring Christ in their generations. I will leave their collects below. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Collect For Margaret, Queen of Scotland, 16 November 1093: O God, who called your servant Margaret to an earthly throne that she might advance your heavenly kingdom, and gave her zeal for your church and love for your people: Mercifully grant that we who commemorate her this day may be fruitful in good works, and attain to the glorious crown of your saints; though Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Collect For Elizabeth of Hungary, Princess and Philantropist, 19 November 1231: Almighty God, by whose grace your servant Elizabeth of Hungary recognized and honored Jesus in the poor of this world: Grant that we, following her example, may with love and gladness serve those in any need or trouble, in the name and for the sake of through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. The numerous "St. Elizabeth's Hospitals" throughout the world are for the most part named, not for the Biblical Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist, but for this princess of Hungary. She was concerned for the relief of the poor and the sick, and with her husband's consent she used her dowry money for their relief. During a famine and epidemic in 1226, while her husband was away in Italy, she sold her jewels and established a hospital where she nursed the sick, and opened the royal granaries to feed the hungry. (James E. Keifer's Christian Biographies) The brother of one of Andrew's close friends, was hurt in an autombile accident over the weekend and is being treated at St. Elizabeth Hosptial, Utica, NY. Gratefully. Faithfully. Peacefully. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Wednesday, November 19, 2008 8:20 AM CST Dear Rhonda, Today's Upper Room, called "Dancing Feet," is a meditation, written by a mother, who lost her child to leukemia. I certainly thought of you, and of Connor, as I read. The mother, Patricia Hammell Kashtock, ended her short meditation, with this paragraph. "Now, her new, strong feet move gracefully in the warmth of God's presence. In heaven, my daughter dances with joy again, without fear or pain, in light that will never fade. She is with God who is love and who will not let her go. Her joy will never end." As you think of Connor this day, may you have grace to know that Connor is alive in God's eternal kingdom, where there is no suffering or pain. Connor's joy is full, and it will not end. Someday, you will enter into that joy, and all shall be well. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Collect For Hilda Of Whitby, Abbess And Peacemaker, 18 November 680: O God of peace, by whose grace the abbess Hilda was endowed with gifts of justice, prudence, and strength to rule as a wise mother over the nuns and monks of her household, and to become a trusted and reconciling friend to leaders of the Church: Give us the grace to recognize and accept the varied gifts you bestow on men and women, that our common life may be enriched and your gracious will be done, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Tuesday, November 18, 2008 12:23 AM CST Dear Rhonda, In reading of today's saint, Hugh of Lincoln, it occurs to me that he and Connor were very much alike in loving animals. James Kiefer wrote of Hugh: He was fond of animals, and they of him. Birds and squirrels came readily to his hand. He had a swan that would feed from his hand, follow him about, and keep guard over his bed, so that no one could approach it without being attacked. Perhaps Connor and blessed Hugh are enjoying a day in heaven today. God bless you always, and of course, God bless Connor. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Collect For Hugh of Lincoln, Bishop, Protector of the Oppressed, 17 November 1200: O holy God, who endowed your servant and bishop Hugh of Lincoln with wise and cheerful boldness, and taught him to commend the discipline of holy life to kings and princes: Grant that we also, rejoicing in the Good News of your mercy, and fearing nothing but the loss of you, may be bold to speak the truth in love, in the name of Jesus Christ our Redeemer, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Monday, November 17, 2008 5:53 PM CST its hard to beleive its been 4 years and yet it seems like forever dont it? I keep you in my thoughts and prayers.... Sharon <sholweger5@yahoo.com> - Sunday, November 16, 2008 7:01 PM CST Dear Rhonda, In reading about today's saint, Albert the Great, I learned that Albert was so curious about eagles that he had himself lowered down a cliff and into an eagle's nest. As I read that, I thought, "Now there is something Connor would do." God bless you, and of course, God bless your sweet animal lover, Connor Jordan Hunley. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette O Almighty God, who gave to your servant Albert special gifts of grace to understand and teach the truth as it is in Christ Jesus: Grant that by this teaching we may know you, the one true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent: who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Saturday, November 15, 2008 11:35 AM CST Dear Rhonda, On a sunny autumn day, I am thinking of Connor. I am sure that he would be eating lots of pumpkin and apple treats, if he were here in bodily form. God bless you always, and of course, God bless Connor. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Today's Collect: We give you thanks, O Lord our God, for your goodness in bestowing upon this Church the gift of the episcopate, which we celebrate in this remembrance of the consecration of Samuel Seabury; and we pray that, joined together in unity with our bishops, and nourished by your holy Sacraments, we may proclaim the Gospel of redemption with apostolic zeal; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Friday, November 14, 2008 9:13 AM CST Dear Rhonda, Thank you for updating Connor's home page and for sharing a picture of Connor, which I don't recall seeing previously. In reading the comment just below mine, and in reading many comments in Connor's guest book these past four years, it is accurate to say that Connor taught us about eternal life. Since we spoke of William Barclay, at a class, at St. George's, today, I will add a quote from Barclay from another source. God bless you always. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Lord, help us so to live that when your call comes, at morning, at midday, or at evening, it may find us ready, our work completed, and our hearts at peace with you, so that we may enter at last with joy into your nearer presence and into life eternal. ~William Barclay (1907-1978) Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Thursday, November 13, 2008 5:37 PM CST I thought of Connor this morning. I have probably shared this with you Rhonda, but praying for that little angel and his family literally changed my life forever. I have been a Christian for a long time, but praying for (and loving!) a little boy that I never met (and that brings tears to my eyes even now) truly changed me from the inside out and I will be forever grateful to you and that precious little warrior of yours. Have a very blessed holiday and know you remain in my thoughts and prayers often. Kim Uldrich <kaykay23@comcast.net> Hendersonville, TN USA - Thursday, November 13, 2008 11:16 AM CST Dear Rhonda, As always, I am thinking of you and remembering your brave little trooper. What a blessing Connor was! God bless you always. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Today's Collect: O Lord our God, grant that your Church, following the teaching of your servant Leo of Rome, may hold fast the great mystery of our redemption, and adore the one Christ, true God and true Man, neither divided from our human nature nor separate from your divine Being; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Monday, November 10, 2008 9:25 AM CST Rhonda, just wanted you to know that I'm thinking of you and your family today. I saw an angel figure that had dark blonde hair the other day & I thought of Connor. Maybe he was sending me a message to say hi. :) I love getting my 'connections of love' as I call them from Chase. They give me great comfort. I pray you have strength & comfort today and plenty of signs always. DeAnna~Chase's moma FOREVER!!! <Chasesmiracle@yahoo.com> - Sunday, November 9, 2008 4:07 PM CST Dear Rhonda, The lawnmower is buzzing nextdoor, and I am getting ready to do some of my own work. I just want to remind you that I am thinking of you and remembering Connor. God bless you, and God bless all of Connor's family, friends, and supporters. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Today's Collect: O God, whose blessed Son came into the world that he might destroy the works of the devil and make us children of God and heirs of eternal life: Grant that, having this hope, we may purify ourselves as he is pure; that, when he comes again with power and great glory, we may be made like him in his eternal and glorious kingdom; where he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Sunday, November 9, 2008 10:47 AM CST Dear Rhonda, I will let the Epistle Lesson for this weekend speak for me today. It is below. God bless you always. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18: We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about those who have died, so that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have died. For this we declare to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will by no means precede those who have died. For the Lord himself, with a cry of command, with the archangel's call and with the sound of God's trumpet, will descend from heaven, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up in the clouds together with them to meet the Lord in the air; and so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage one another with these words. Gratefully. Faithfully. Peacefully. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Saturday, November 8, 2008 3:04 PM CST Dear Rhonda, Once more, on a Friday morning, I am thinking of you and remembering dear Connor. God bless you both. I hope Nana and Poppy are doing well. Please give them a warm greeting from me. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Treasure the love you receive above all. It will survive long after your good health has vanished. ~Og Mandino (1923-1996) Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Friday, November 7, 2008 1:38 AM CST Dear Rhonda, The quotation I am leaving today has been in my head a few times this week, when I have thought of you, so I guess I am supposed to share it. God bless you always, and of course, God bless your sunshine boy. Connor truly is missed, but I know we will all experience him again, and that when we do, Connor will be more himself than he ever has been, and so will we. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette In the end what matters is not how good we are, but how good God is. Not how much we love Him, but how much He loves us. And God loves us whoever we are, whatever we've done or failed to do, whatever we believe or can't. ~Archbishop Desmond Tutu (South Africa) Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Thursday, November 6, 2008 7:48 PM CST thinking of Connor so i stopped by tricia <triciabxny@yahoo.com> - Wednesday, November 5, 2008 12:56 AM CST Dear Rhonda, Today I am remembering Connor and several children and adults that I learned about through Connor's website. I am also praying for you and for all who are in any form of bereavement. God bless you always, and of course, God bless your sweet sunshine boy, with the wonderful smile, Connor Jordan Hunley. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette O God of wonder and mystery, you gave us Jesus to go before us and to show us a way to new life through our dying: As the season of autumn reminds us that all living things must die, so must our faith in the life Jesus promised encourage us to embrace life's potential, rather than being saddened by life's endings, may we find, in the wisdom of your creation, the constantly renewing love that reassures us of your presence. With our eyes on the tree of life and its spectacular beauty, may we remain always in Jesus. Amen. ~Sister Karen Berry in Prayer Services for Parishes Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Wednesday, November 5, 2008 8:56 AM CST Dear Rhonda, I had a ladybug land on my head last night. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette For all the saints, who from their labors rest, who thee by faith before the world confessed, thy Name, O Jesus, be forever blessed. Alleluia, Alleluia! Thou wast their Rock, their Fortress and their Might; thou, Lord, their Captain in the well fought fight; thou, in the darkness drear, their one true Light. Alleluia, Alleluia! For the apostles' glorious company, who bearing forth the cross o'er land and sea, shook all the mighty world, we sing to Thee: Alleluia, Alleluia! For the Evangelists, by whose blest word, like fourfold streams, the garden of the Lord, is fair and fruitful, be thy Name adored. Alleluia, Alleluia! For Martyrs, who with rapture kindled eye, saw the bright crown descending from the sky, and seeing, grasped it, thee we glorify. Alleluia, Alleluia! O may thy soldiers, faithful, true, and bold, fight as the saints who nobly fought of old, and win, with them the victor's crown of gold. Alleluia, Alleluia! O blest communion, fellowship divine! we feebly struggle, they in glory shine; all are one in thee, for all are thine. Alleluia, Alleluia! And when the strife is fierce, the warfare long, steals on the ear the distant triumph song, and hearts are brave, again, and arms are strong. Alleluia, Alleluia! The golden evening brightens in the west; soon, soon to faithful warriors comes their rest; sweet is the calm of paradise the blessed. Alleluia, Alleluia! But lo! there breaks a yet more glorious day; the saints triumphant rise in bright array; the King of glory passes on his way. Alleluia, Alleluia! Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette One Of The Collects For All Saints Day: Almighty and everlasting God, we give you most high praise and hearty thanks for the wonderful grace and virtue declared in all your saints, who have been the chosen vessels of your grace, and the lights of the world in their times: for Abraham, the father of believers, and Sarah his wife; for Moses the lawgiver, and Aaron the priest; for Miriam and Joshua, Deborah and Gideon, and Samuel with Hannah his mother, and for all the holy patriarchs; for Isaiah and all the prophets; for the Blessed Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ our Lord and God; for Peter and Paul and all the apostles; for Mary and Martha, and Mary Magdalene; for Stephen, the first martyr, and for all the martyrs; and for all your other righteous servants, known to us and unknown; and we beseech you that, rejoicing in their fellowship, encouraged by their examples, and aided by their prayers, we also may run with steadfastness the race that is set before us, and finish our course in faith; and that at the day of the general resurrection, we, with all those who are of the mystical body of your Son, may be set on his right hand, and hear his most joyful voice: "Come, you blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world." I wish you peace and continued signs of Connor's presence. You are always in our prayers. Deb Litchfield, NH USA - Tuesday, October 28, 2008 9:38 PM CDT Dear Rhonda, We are having hard rain, here, in southern Saratoga County. As the temperatures drop tonight, we are expecting a nasty, heavy, wet snow. This is not good, as most of the trees around here still had almost full foliage last night, so with a heavy snow and lots of leaves, limbs, and even whole trees, could come down causing power outages. We are expecting 2-4 inches here, and that is enough to cause that type of occurrence, but areas in the Tug Hill and in the Adirondacks probably will get up to a foot. I hope you are well, safe, and content. I am thinking of you, and of all those whose lives are closely linked with you and with Connor. May God bless you all. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Collect For Today, The Feast Of St. Simon and St. Jude, Apostles: O God, we thank you for the glorious company of the apostles, and especially on this day for Simon and Jude; and we pray that, as they were faithful and zealous in their mission, so we may with ardent devotion make known the love and mercy of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Tuesday, October 28, 2008 11:27 AM CDT Hi Rhonda- Just thinking of you (Eddie too) these next few days. I hope all is well, our thoughts and prayers are always with you. Kristen <kristen@gmail.com> Minneapolis, mn 55122 - Monday, October 27, 2008 11:05 PM CDT Dear Rhonda, I am especially thinking of you, during this the anniversary week of Connor's birth. I know you were eagerly waiting to see and hold your child fourteen years ago. May you now, know with certainty, that you will see and hold Connor Jordan Hunley again, in that place where there is now sighing or pain, but only life eternal. Earlier this month I wrote to you about Archbishop William Temple. Today is his Feast Day, so I leave you the collect and a quote. God bless you always. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette O God, who by your Holy Spirit give to some the word of wisdom, to others the word of knowledge, and to others the word of faith: We praise your Name for the gifts of grace manifested in your servant William Temple, and we pray that your Church may never be destitute of such gifts; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. A Quote From William Temple (1881-1944): In the days of His earthly ministry, only those could speak to him who came where He was: if He was in Galilee, men could not find Him in Jerusalem; if He was in Jerusalem, men could not find Him in Galilee. His Ascension means that He is perfectly united with God; we are with Him wherever we are present to God; and that is everywhere and always. Because He is "in Heaven" He is everywhere on earth: because He is ascended, He is here now. Our devotion is not to hold us by the empty tomb; it must lift up our hearts to heaven so that we too "in heart and mind thither ascend and with Him continually dwell": it must also send us forth into the world to do His will; and these are not two things, but one. Gratefully. Faithfully. Peacefully. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Monday, October 27, 2008 12:21 AM CDT I'm thinking of you as Connor's birthday week approaches. I hope he can send you some special signs this week. With love and prayers. Lisa Mount Juliet, TN USA - Sunday, October 26, 2008 8:28 PM CDT Dear Rhonda, I am listning to a football game, as I type to you today, and I have been watching the World Series. I know Connor followed the Titans and enjoyed sports. He would have loved this beautiful autumn day. May God bless his sweet spirit. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Today's Collect: Almighty and everlasting God, increase in us the gifts of faith, hope, and charity; and, that we may obtain what you promise, make us love what you command; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Sunday, October 26, 2008 3:15 PM CDT Hi Rhonda! Lisa Lowrey, Kambryn's mom, and I have set up a Vanderbilt Children's Hemonc Forum for our families, past and present, to get together and chat. Our hope is that we can have a place for families going through active treatment to get to know each other... families whose kids are done with treatment can talk about what's next and families with angels to connect for friendship and support. We also hope to start raising awareness for Childhood Cancer here in Middle Tennessee as well as help the families going through active treatment. Basically this is one solid place to connect and hopefully help find a cure for this horrible cancer that has drawn our families together. Check it out and let us know what you think. If you have any ideas or questions we would love to hear them! Also, please feel free to pass this info along to other Vanderbilt families... I know I have missed several, so the more we get the word out the better the forum will be! We hope to see you over there! I hope you are safe and well and having a good weekend. God bless you always, and of course, God bless your sweet sunshine boy. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Today's Collect: Heavenly Father, who gives to us your servants gifts differing according to our calling: We praise you for the gift bestowed upon your servant Geoffrey Chaucer, of writing poems concerning human nature and human loves and desires, and showing us in them a guide that points to you, the love which you bear toward us, and the love we ought to have, and by your grace are being brought to have, for you, through your well-beloved Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Saturday, October 25, 2008 1:54 PM CDT Dear Rhonda, I have been thinking of you, and of Connor, this week. May God bless you both. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Today's Collect: Almighty God, who through your holy Apostle have taught us to praise you in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs: We give you thanks this day for the gift of writing great hymns which you gave to your servants Philipp Nicolai, Johann Heermann, Paul Gerhardt, and Joachim Neander; and we pray that your Church may never lack those with the gifts of writing words and music to your praise, and may be ever filled with the desire to praise and thank you for your great goodness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. How bright appears the Morning Star, with mercy beaming from afar; the host of heaven rejoices; O righteous Branch, O Jesse's Rod! Thou Son of Man and Son of God! We, too, will lift our voices: Jesus, Jesus! Holy, holy, yet most lowly, draw thou near us; great Emmanuel, come and hear us. Though circled by the hosts on high, he deigned to cast a pitying eye upon his helpless creature; the whole creation's Head and Lord, by highest seraphim adored, assumed our very nature; Jesus, grant us, through thy merit, to inherit thy salvation; hear, O hear our supplication. Rejoice, ye heavens; thou earth, reply; with praise, ye sinners, fill the sky, for this his Incarnation. Incarnate God, put forth thy power, ride on, ride on, great Conqueror, till all know thy salvation. Amen, amen! Alleluia, alleluia! Praise be given evermore, by earth and heaven. Words: Philipp Nicolai, 1597; paraphrased in Psalmodia Germanica, 1722 and altered by William Mercer, 1855, 1859. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette O God of the nations, who gave to your faithful servant Henry Martyn a brilliant mind, a loving heart, and a gift for languages, that he might translate the Scriptures and other holy writings for the peoples of India and Persia: Inspire in us a love like his, eager to commit both life and talents to you who gave them; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Tuesday, October 21, 2008 7:02 PM CDT Dear Rhonda, Last night, I went to the Glen Sanders Mansion, to hear some stories. The teller, Elizabeth Ellis, was born and raised, I believe, in your area, and I know she often tells at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesboro. She comes up here, from her current home, near Dallas, Texas, about once a year to teach and to tell. She did a wonderful job. I know Connor would love good tellers like Elizabeth. My thoughts and prayers are will you. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Today's Collect: O Almighty God, by whose grace and power your holy martyrs Antony Daniel, Charles Garnier, Gabriel Lalemant, Isaac Jogues, John de Brebeuf, John Lalande, Noel Chabanel, and Rene Goupil triumphed over suffering and were faithful even to death: Grant us, who now remember them in thanksgiving, to be so faithful in our witness to you in this world, that we may receive with them the crown of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. I know that Connor Jordan Hunley has recieved that crown of life. Gratefully. Faithfully. Peacefully. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Monday, October 20, 2008 8:28 PM CDT Dear Rhonda, Connor was remembered in Holy Eucharist yesterday, the Feast of St. Luke, and he will be remembered again today. May you feel God's love and Connor's love with you this day and every day. God bless you always. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Today's Collect: Almighty and everlasting God, in Christ you have revealed your glory among the nations: Preserve the works of your mercy, that your Church throughout the world may persevere with steadfast faith in the confession of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Sunday, October 19, 2008 5:58 AM CDT Dear Rhonda, I am thinking of you, and of Connor, on another weekend. I hope all is going well for you. One of this week's saints is Teresa of Avila. I will leave a quote from her below. God bless you always. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Prayer is not just spending time with the Lord. It is partly that - but if it ends there, it is fruitless. No, prayer is dynamic. Authentic prayer changes us - unmasks us - strips us - indicates where growth is needed. Authentic prayer never leads us to complacency, but needles us - makes us uneasy at times. It leads us to true self-knowledge, to true humility. ~Teresa Of Avila (1515-1582) The Collect: Almighty God, who, when the hearts of your people have grown cold, send your Spirit to relight the flame of your love in their hearts, and raise up faithful ministers to recall your people to their former devotion and service: Mercifully grant that we, following the teaching and example of Teresa of Avila and others, may be filled with your Holy Spirit, may be aflame with zeal for your glory and love for your goodness and hunger for your love, and that our feet may be set upon the path that leads to true holiness; the which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and ever. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Saturday, October 18, 2008 5:06 AM CDT Dear Rhonda, Since many of Connor's friends come to you via the internet, I leave for you today's collect for "St. Sam, Patron Saint of the Internet." Schereschewsky, a European Jew, accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior, and trained for the Episcopal priesthood. After ordination, he spent 41 years in China, and was consecrated bishop of Shanghai. After being paralyzed, he gave up his bishopric and spent over twenty years, in a chair, typing Biblical translations with his one remaining useful finger. May we, with like confidence, have faith that God will use our talents, despite our infirmities and shortcomings. God bless you always, and of course, God bless Connor. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Collect For Samuel Isaac Joseph Schereschewsky (14 October 1906): O God, who in your providence called Joseph Schereschewsky from his home in Eastern Europe to the ministry of this Church, and sent him as a missionary to China, upholding him in his infirmity, that he might translate the Holy Scriptures into languages of that land: Lead us, we pray, to commit our lives and talents to you, in the confidence that when you give your servants any work to do, you also supply the strength to do it; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. P.S. A ladybug landed on my lap, as I was reading the other night. Of course, I thought of Connor right away. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Tuesday, October 14, 2008 11:21 AM CDT Happy Columbus Day To All! Dear Rhonda, When my boys were little, I always planned an outdoor outing for the Columbus Day holiday. One year, we hiked the Saratoga Battlefield and ate a picnic lunch on the trail. Another year, we visited Stone Bridge and Caves, where we hiked the trail twice, visited the gift and gem shops, and ate a picnic lunch. Another trip was to Fort William Henry, and a fourth trip was to Fort Ticonderoga. As the guys got older, they had school sports commitments on Columbus Day, so the family outings stopped. Those outings are good things to remember, with fondness, as are your fall holiday memories of Connor. May your memories bring you joy today and every day. God bless you always, and of course, God bless your sweet sunshine boy, Connor Jordan Hunley. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Monday, October 13, 2008 11:19 AM CDT Dear Rhonda, We had a lovely autumn afternoon, here in southern Saratoga County. Andrew and I did some errands. Then we stopped at Friendly Ice Cream for a late lunch. I had a fish sandwich, broccoli, water, and a Happy Ending Sundae of pistachio with hot chocolate. As I ate that cold treat, I thought of Connor and wondered what ice cream he would have ordered. Both you and Connor are in my thoughts and prayers. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette O God of light and love, you illumined your Church through the witness of your servant William Temple: Inspire us, we pray, by his teaching and example, that we may rejoice with courage, confidence, and faith in the Word made flesh, and may be led to establish that city which has justice for its foundation and love for its law; through Jeus Christ, the light of the world, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Quote From William Temple (One Of My Favorite Archbishops): Worship is the submission of all of our nature to God. It is the quickening of conscience by His holiness, nourishment of mind by His truth, purifying of imagination by His beauty, opening of the heart to His love, and submission of will to His purpose. And all this gathered up in adoration is the greatest of human expressions of which we are capable. ~Archbishop William Temple (1881-1944) Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Saturday, October 11, 2008 8:08 PM CDT Dear Rhonda, Dave and I walked the breast cancer walk this morning and upon completing it I sat down on a bench to enjoy a bagel and some juice and a little lady bug landed on my lap:) You know who was with me this day!:) I do miss hearing from you and I miss your sunshine boy. I like the last part of it, as it reminds us of where are true joy is always found. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Prayer For The Current Financial Situation From The Church Of England Lord God, we live in disturbing days: across the world, prices rise, debts increase, banks collapse, jobs are taken away, and fragile security is under threat. Loving God, meet us in our fear and hear our prayer: be a tower of strength amidst the shifting sands, and a light in the darkness; help us receive your gift of peace, and fix our hearts where true joys are to be found, in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Saturday, October 11, 2008 5:07 AM CDT Dear Rhonda, It has been a while since you have emailed me, or updated Connor's homepage. If you can, will you please do one or the other? I know other friends of Connor would appreciate your news, as well. As always, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Collect For The Feast Of Robert Grosseteste (Bishop Of Lincoln), October 9, 1253: O God our heavenly Father, who raised up your faithful Servant Robert Grosseteste to be a bishop and pastor in your Church and to feed your flock: Give to all pastors abundant gifts of your Holy Spirit, that they may minister in your household as true servants of Christ and stewards of your divine mysteries; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. +++ A Collect For Fridays (By William Reed Huntington): Almighty God, whose most dear Son went not up to joy but first he suffered pain, and entered not into glory before he was crucified: Mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the cross, may find it none other than the way of life and peace; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Friday, October 10, 2008 4:28 AM CDT Dear Rhonda, Yesterday Andrew and I went to see the movie, Eagle Eye. It was a good action thriller, which kept us engaged throughout, and of course, I enjoyed being out with my son. I thought of Connor, coming home, as I know he loved car action scenes. God bless his sweet spirit. My thoughts and prayers are with you today. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Today's Collect: Almighty God, who gave your servants Thomas More, John Fisher, and William Tyndale boldness to confess the name of our Saviour Jesus Christ before the rulers of this world, and courage to die for this faith: Grant that we may also be ever ready to give a reason for the hope that is in us, and to suffer gladly for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and ever. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Monday, October 6, 2008 1:53 PM CDT Dear Rhonda, Today churches and church parking lots are full of household pets and farm animals, as we bless animals and remember St. Francis of Assisi. I had hoped to go to the Cathedral of All Saints to attend the event this morning, but a late night last night got in the way. However, if Connor had been here, I would have gotten up, and we would have had lunch out on the way home. God bless you always, and of course, God bless your sunshine boy. I lift you both up to the Lord, during Eucharist, this weekend. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Today's Collect: Collect: Most high, omnipotent, good Lord, grant your people grace Gladly to renounce the vanities of this world; that, following the way of blessed Francis, we may for love of you delight in your whole creation with perfect joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Monday, September 29, 2008 4:46 PM CDT Dear Rhonda, It is raining here in southern Saratoga County, but I hope you are having a good day. I also hope you have a good weekend, possibly celebrating your birthday, a few days early, with your family. I am leaving you today's collect commemorating Lancelot Andrewes (1555-1626), Bishop of Winchester. He was a great scholar and preacher and a member of the committee that produced the King James Translation of the Bible. He probably contributed more to that work than any other person. God bless you always, and God bless your sweet sunshine boy, Connor Jordan Hunley. Grace, peace, love, and all good, Colette O Lord and Father, our King and God, by whose grace the Church was enriched by the great learning and eloquent preaching of your servant Lancelot Andrewes, but even more by his example of biblical and liturgical prayer: Conform our lives, like his, to the image of Christ, that our hearts may love you, our minds serve you, and our lips proclaim the greatness of your mercy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. God bless you always. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Real prayer penetrates to the marrow of the soul and leaves nothing untouched. The prayer of the heart is prayer that does not allow us to limit our relationship with God to interesting words or pious emotion...In our hearts we come to see ourselves as sinners embraced by the mercy of God. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Today's Collect (One Of My Favorites): Grant us, Lord, not to be anxious about earthly things, but to love things heavenly; and even now, while we are placed among things that are passing away, to hold fast to those that shall endure; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Sunday, September 21, 2008 2:18 PM CDT He who has surrendered himself to it knows that the Way ends on the Cross--even when it is leading through the jubilation of Gennesaret or the triumphal entry into Jerusalem. ~Dag Hammarskjöld (1905-1961) Dear Rhonda, As young people, my boys were always interested in individuals like Hammarskjöld. Perhaps Connor has met him in their heavenly country. My thoughts and prayers are with you today. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Heavenly Father, who have taught us that the peacemakers shall be called the children of God: Grant that, like your servant Dag Hammarskjöld, we may always seek to live at peace with our neighbors, and to reconcile those living in strife and enmity; so that in this way we may follow in the footsteps of your beloved Son Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Thursday, September 18, 2008 9:57 AM CDT Underneath all the texts, all the sacred psalms and canticles, these watery varieties of sounds and silences, terrifying, mysterious, whirling and sometimes gestating and gentle must somehow be felt in the pulse, ebb, and flow of the music that sings in me. My new song must float like a feather on the breath of God. Hildegard Of Bingen Dear Rhonda, I left you that quote from Hildegard, as I did not have much to say on my own. I do love singing, especially when I am singing to God, and I believe you do, as well. May our songs float like feathers to God and to Connor. God bless you always. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Today's Collect: Feast Of Hildegard Of Bingen, 17 September 1179 O God, by whose grace your servant Hildegard, kindled with the fire of your love, became a burning and shining light in your Church: Grant that we also may be aflame with the spirit of love and discipline, and walk before you as children of light; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Wednesday, September 17, 2008 2:33 PM CDT The soul is healed by being with children. ~Fyodor Dostoyevsky, novelist (1821-1881) Dear Rhonda, The thought above was in my email today. I know Connor was such a wonderful child that it may be hard for you to see other parents enjoying their children, but I hope that you can spend time with children of friends and family, as there is healing in being with young people. God bless you. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Collect For The Feast Of Ninian Of Galloway, Bishop, Missionary To Scotland, 16 September 430: O God, who by the preaching of your blessed servant and bishop Ninian caused the light of the Gospel to shine in the land of Britain: Grant, we pray, that, having his life and labors in remembrance, we may show our thankfulness by following the example of his zeal and patience; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. In reflecting on an amazing evening, I think Connor would have enjoyed the humorous tellings offered by women from Saratoga Springs and from Albany and the dessert. I know I did. Today is the Feast of the Holy Cross. We have two churches in our diocese that carry this name. I was fortune enough to visit the church in Jerusalem, near where St. Helena discovered the true cross, several years ago. I will leave the collect below. God bless both you and Connor. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Almighty God, whose Son our Savior Jesus Christ was lifted high upon the cross that he might draw the whole world to himself: Mercifully grant that we, who glory in the mystery of our redemption, may have grace to take up our cross and follow him; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Monday, September 15, 2008 9:22 AM CDT Dear Rhonda, I am remembering sweet Connor and thinking of you on a beautiful late summer afternoon. I hope you are enjoying the weekend. There are many cancer awareness/fund-raisers going on. Perhaps you are involved in one of them. If so, may your activity bring Connor's story to the attention of new people and help find cures. God bless you always, and of course, God bless Connor Jordan Hunley. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared their love. ~Leo F. May God bless you and your sweet sunshine boy. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Today's Collect, Feast Of John Henry Hobart, Pioneer Bishop Of New York (1775-1830): Revive your Church, Lord God of hosts, whenever it falls into complacency and sloth, by raising up devoted leaders, like your servant John Henry Hobart whom we remember this day; and grant that their faith and vigor of mind may awaken your people to your message and their mission; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Friday, September 12, 2008 2:11 PM CDT Dear Rhonda, I have thought of you, and of your family, often on Patriot's Day, and I have also thought of a man from my hometown, who died in the World Trade Center. May God bless the souls of all the faithful departed. A friend sent me a card containing the prayer below from The Book of Common Prayer. The word "catholic" in the prayer refers to the whole church of Christ. God bless you always. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette O God, whose days are without end, and whose mercies cannot be numbered: Make us, we pray, deeply aware of the shortness and uncertainty of human life; and let your Holy Spirit lead us in holiness and righteousness all our days; that, when we shall have served you in our generation, we may be gathered to our ancestors, having the testimony of a good conscience, in the communion of the Catholic Church, in the confidence of a certain faith, in the comfort of a religious and holy hope, in favor with you, our God, and in perfect charity with the world. All this we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Thursday, September 11, 2008 11:45 PM CDT rhonda.. The kids are also beginning to plan for Halloween. I am sure Connor would have been looking forward to that day, as it was also his birthday. May God bless Connor always, and may God bless you and all of Connor's other loved ones, too. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Today's Collect: Almighty and everlasting God, we thank you for your servant Alexander Crummell, whom you called to preach the Gospel to those who were far off and to those who were near. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Wednesday, September 10, 2008 3:42 PM CDT Dear Rhonda, Someone is using a lawn tractor in our area, and the sound of it makes me think of the picture of Connor driving the tractor. How all of the young guys enjoy things with wheels! You are in my loving thoughts today. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Here's a quote, from Mother Teresa, that always makes me smile. When I was crossing into Gaza, I was asked at the checkpost whether I was carrying any weapons. I replied: Oh yes, my prayer books. Gratefully. Faithfully. Peacefully. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Monday, September 8, 2008 4:26 PM CDT Rhonda, Yesterday I helped give a bridal shower for my niece Sarah and a little boy 1 year old was there and his name was Connor, he had the biggest smile and reminded me of your sweet sunshine boy. I do miss him!!! I am thankful for the short time I "knew" him and for the lessons he taught me about being courageous and to live life to the fullest each and every precious day. Note: Thank you for the awesome entry Mr. Wayne....Connor will forever be in my heart!:) Colette, you are always so faithful in writing. I love your quotes and the prayers you include. Mother Teresa was one of my favorites and I took the name Theresa for my confirmation name.:) God Bless everyone reading this and especially Rhonda. We love you! love and hugs, Kathy and Dave Green Bay, WI. U.S.A. - Sunday, September 7, 2008 12:51 AM CDT Dear Rhonda, Both you and Connor were in my thoughts and prayers, during Eucharist last night. When the service was over, a friend and I had dinner at IHOP. We tried the Louisiana Bananas Foster Pancakes, which have been advertised. They came topped with a large scoop of vanilla ice cream, and they were yummy. I wonder what Connor would have thought of them, or of some of the other specialty pancakes they served. God bless you always. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Prayer enlarges the heart until it is capable of containing God’s gift of Himself. ~Mother Teresa Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Sunday, September 7, 2008 11:45 AM CDT Let us always meet each other with smile, for the smile is the beginning of love. ~Mother Teresa Dear Rhonda, So many of Mother Teresa's sayings were about smiling, and certainly one thing Connor was known for was his smile. May God bless them both and all the faithful departed. I am reading at one Eucharist, this weekend, and while I am at church, I will remember Connor, and I will also hold you up in my prayers. God bless you always. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette The Collect: Grant us, O Lord, to trust in you with all our hearts; for, as you always resist the proud who confide in their own strength, so you never forsake those who make their boast of your mercy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. ~The Book Of Common Prayer, Page 233 Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Saturday, September 6, 2008 1:22 PM CDT Hey to everyone who visits Connor's web site and signs his guestbook! Life happens. People get involved in their hectic schedules. Without meaning to, we often get 'lost' in our daily routines and may forget those who are important to us. Maybe you feel as I do when you think often about a special person like Connor. Hardly a day goes by that this young man doesn't enter my thought process. However, I fail to take the time to come here and say a few words. It's so easy to let the hustle and bustle take over and we forget that some may need the blessing of a few minutes of our time. God's plans for us are quite easy to understand and yet can be difficult to follow. I think that is why he uses the innocence of a young child to reach out and gently let us know there are things more important than our full and busy schedule. I cannot visit here without thanking Connor for his incredible gift of being a mighty soldier in God's army! Although his physical walk is finished, he will continue to be a strong influence in many lives. I think about the scripture that states unless we become like little children, we cannot inherit the kingdom of heaven. God knows what he is doing. Thank you Connor for being such a good guy!! In Christian love, Mr. Wayne Wayne Gordon <wgordon@cscsystems.com> Hermitage, TN USA - Friday, September 5, 2008 4:06 PM CDT Dear Rhonda, My thoughts are with you on another Friday morning. May we all, "walking in the way of the cross, may find it none other than the way of life and peace," today and every day. Since today is Mother Teresa's eleventh anniversary, I will leave her daily prayer below. God bless you always. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Dear Jesus, help me to spread Thy fragrance everywhere I go. Flood my soul with Thy spirit and love. Penetrate and possess my whole being so utterly that all my life may only be a radiance of Thine. ~Mother Teresa's Daily Prayer, by Cardinal Newman Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Friday, September 5, 2008 11:21 AM CDT Dear Rhonda, Today is a beautiful summer day, so it is easy to think of Connor buzzing about on his go-cart and also riding his bike. He was one active young man! Connor will always be missed by all of his friends and supporters. God bless you always, and God bless all of Connor's dear ones. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Today's Collect: Merciful God, who sent your beloved Son to preach peace to those who are far off and to those who are near: Raise up in this and every land witnesses, who, after the example of your servant Paul Jones, will stand firm in proclaiming the Gospel of the Prince of Peace, our Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Thursday, September 4, 2008 1:48 PM CDT Dear Rhonda, The school busses are roaring through our development. Today is the first day of school here, and those busses have been going for almost an hour. I think back to young Connor and to my own boys, in new shoes and clothes, and to the hopes, dreams, and excitement of a new beginning. I also think of fall sports and a return to Christian education which would follow on the weekend. My thoughts are sweet, and I hope that yours are as well. God bless you always, and of course, God bless your sweet sunshine boy, Connor Jordan Hunley. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette The Collect: Almighty God, we remember before you this day the blessed martyrs of New Guinea, who, following the example of their Savior, laid down their lives for their friends; and we pray that we, who honor their memory, may imitate their loyalty and faith; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Wednesday, September 3, 2008 6:41 AM CDT Dear Rhonda, I am thinking of you and of Connor today. May God bless you both. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette All of the good that you will do will come not from the fact that you have allowed yourself, in obedience of faith, to be used by God's love. Think of this more and gradually you will free yourself from the need to prove yourself, and you can be more open to the power that will work through you without you knowing it. ~Thomas Merton (1915-1968) Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Tuesday, September 2, 2008 8:01 AM CDT Dear Rhonda, Aiden of Lindisfarne is one of my favorite saints, so I am leaving his collect below. His day is usually August 31, but with that date being a Sunday, he was remembered today. I have thought of Connor many times today, and another of his friends emailed me to say that she had, as well. Connor will not be forgotten by those who signed his guest book faithfully during his illness, but even more importantly, Connor is always in the heart and mind of God. God bless you both. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette O loving God, who called your servant Aidan from the peace of a cloister to re-establish the Christian mission in northern England, and gave him the gifts of gentleness, simplicity, and strength: Grant that we, following his example, may use what you have given us for the relief of human need, and may persevere in commending the saving Gospel of our Redeemer Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Monday, September 1, 2008 9:11 PM CDT Dear Rhonda, On another first of the month, I am thinking of sweet Connor and how much we all miss him. May God give you special grace to go through whatever emotions today brings, and may you never lose sight of the tree of life. God bless you always, and of course, God bless Connor. - Monday, September 1, 2008 11:59 AM CDT Good Morning Rhonda, Thinking of you today and a little blonde haired boy who captured my heart and is forever in my heart. I miss your sunshine boy and I love you. Please know I am always here for you and pray for you daily. God Bless, love and hugs, Kathy and Dave Green Bay , WI. U.S.A. - Monday, September 1, 2008 7:32 AM CDT Dear Rhonda, Andrew took me out to lunch today, and I enjoyed my time with him very much. I do not sign guest books very much now either, but I do try to get to Connor's book often as he was so very special. Like Sharon, I hope you are doing all right. God bless you, and of course, God bless sweet Connor. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Sunday, August 31, 2008 3:39 PM CDT I do not sign very often any more Rhonda but I do think of you so often. I hope things are ok. Sharon <sholweger5@yahoo.com> - Sunday, August 31, 2008 8:48 AM CDT Happy Labor Day Weekend To All! Dear Rhonda, Connor will be remembered, in Holy Eucharist, this weekend, as he is every time I am at church. May God nourish you with all good things, especially hope. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette The Collect: Lord of all power and might, the author and giver of all good things: Graft in our hearts the love of your Name; increase in us true religion; nourish us with all goodness; and bring forth in us the fruit of good works; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen. ~The Book Of Common Prayer, Page 233 Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Saturday, August 30, 2008 12:32 AM CDT Dear Rhonda, The news and the history of this week have made me think a lot of a young man, who like our Lord Jesus, gave his life for others. Today I leave you the collect for Jonathan Daniels, who died on August 20, 1965. A seminarian, his action in stepping in front of another, to prevent her death, still speaks louder than any words he could have preached. God bless you always, and of course, God bless your sweet son, Connor Jordan Hunley. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette O God of justice and compassion, who put down the proud and the mighty from their place, and lift up the poor and afflicted: We give you thanks for your faithful witness Jonathan Myrick Daniels, who, in the midst of injustice and violence, risked and gave his life for another; and we pray that we, following his example, may make no peace with oppression; through Jesus Christ the just one: who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Friday, August 29, 2008 10:03 AM CDT Regarding Connor's page. Thank you so much! My 3yo daughter has been through a battle with cancer and is now in remission. She is like a normal little girl but I am now finding it hard to greive and move on. Reading Connor's page helped me alot. Thank you! Nicole Conway <jasonconway@optusnet.com.au> Brisbane, Qld Australia - Thursday, August 28, 2008 11:18 PM CDT Of this I am certain, that no one has ever died who was not destined to die some time. Now the end of life puts the longest life on a par with the shortest... And of what consequence is it what kind of death puts an end to life, since he who has died once is not forced to go through the same ordeal a second time? They, then, who are destined to die, need not be careful to inquire what death they are to die, but into what place death will usher them. ~St. Augustine of Hippo (354-430) Feast Day: August 28 Dear Rhonda, I hope these words from St. Augustine of Hippo will be comforting to you today, as you think of Connor and others who have gone before you. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Today's Collect: Lord God, the light of the minds that know you, the life of the souls that love you, and the strength of the hearts that serve you: Help us, following the example of your servant Augustine of Hippo, so to know you that we may truly love you, and so to love you that we may fully serve you, whom to serve is perfect freedom; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Thursday, August 28, 2008 10:31 AM CDT Dear Rhonda, Last night, Andrew wanted pizza. As I watched him, smiling as he placed the order, I thought of your smiling sunshine boy, and I wondered what Connor would have chosen, had he placed the order. God bless you always, and of course, God bless your sweet sunshine boy, Connor Jordan Hunley. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Today's Collect: O loving God, whose will it is that everyone should come to you and be saved: We bless your Holy Name for your servants Thomas Gallaudet and Henry Winter Syle, whose labors with and for those who are deaf we commemorate today; and we pray that you will continually move your Church to respond in love to the needs of all people; through Jesus Christ, who opened the ears of the deaf, and who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Wednesday, August 27, 2008 1:30 PM CDT Dear Rhonda, Today's saint is Bartholomew. One of my connections with this name is that when they were young, my boys gave me a white teddy bear that I named Thomas Bartholomew. We had such a good time with that bear! I am sure little stories like this one make you think of dozens of sweet things Connor did as a little guys, and I hope those thoughts make your heart smile. God bless you always, and of course, God bless your sweet sunshine boy, Connor Jordan Hunley. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Almighty and everlasting God, who gave to your apostle Bartholomew grace truly to believe and to preach your Word: Grant that your Church may love what he believed and preach what he taught; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. ALL Friends to Connor - Wednesday, August 20, 2008 10:01 PM CDT Dear Rhonda, In reading today's collect, I thought of Connor, who truly was a child of light. May God bless you both today and every day. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette O God, by whose grace your servant Bernard of Clairvaux, kindled with the flame of your love, became a burning and a shining light in your Church: Grant that we also may be aflame with the spirit of love and discipline, and walk before you as children of light; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Colette Clifton Park, NY U.S.A. - Wednesday, August 20, 2008 12:53 AM CDT Dear Rhonda, Over the past few days, three friends have died, and I have three friends battling breast cancer. Life is often uncertain, but all of these departed had faith, as did Connor, so are hearts, although hurting, are not like those without hope. We will see them again. Today's saint is Helena, mother of Constantine, and finder of the True Cross. Several years ago, while in the Holy Land, I attended two worship services in the church she helped to build. God bless you always, and of course, God bless your dear son, Connor Jordan Hunley. Kim <dakk2222@netnitco.net> IN - Monday, August 18, 2008 6:51 PM CDT Dear Rhonda, I stopped at DeVoe's yesterday, as they advertised lemon ice cream, which is one of my favorites. I had my cone dipped in chocolate, and as I ate, I wondered, as I often do, what cool treat Connor would have chosen. May God bless your sweet, sunshine boy, and may God bless you. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Today's Collect: Almighty God, who gave to your servant William Porcher DuBose special gifts of grace to understand the Scriptures and to teach the truth as it is in Christ Jesus: Grant that by this teaching we may know you, the one true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. It is a good day for me to think of Connor, and of his cousins, and to pray for them all, and for you. Connor was remembered, in Eucharist, at St. George's, on Saturday, when I served as lay reader. Grace, peace, love, and all good, ~Colette Today's Collect: O God, whose blessed Son became poor that we through his poverty might be rich: Deliver us from an inordinate love of this world, that we, inspired by the devotion of your servant Clare, may serve you with singleness of heart, and attain to the riches of the age to come; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
