Hey Leigha,
Grandpa Crowley here. I finally got around to reading your update. Between work, church, and helping take care of Jacob (our grandson) life has been hectic. Not to mention our hot water heat broke and we had to replace our kitchen and dining room floor. Still not finished, but getting closer. Glad to see things keep looking good for you. I was sad to see you and your family are going to a new church, but that is one of the things that makes our country great: the freedom of choice. Better go. Time to go Wal-Marting (Yippee....grrrrrr.) Hang in there kid.

Glad to hear you & your family are doing so great!!! My husband just had a bone marrow transplant July 31st this year and your mom had given me your caringbridge site so we wouldn't feel so alone going through this!!! I thank God for that!! Can't wait until we are at our 2 yr mark!! Praise God for working in your life!!

Happy belated 57th birthday! You are looking great for someone of your age. It was so great to finally get to meet you this summer! I just think your whole family is awesome.
I really enjoyed reading an authentic update and am glad that things are going so well for you. My kids started school last week and I think we are already done with the whole getting up early and racing around routine. A couple of days before school started we got a sweet little kitten named, not PO, but Oreo. She has been a lot of fun for all of us (except for the times she is being a pain in the butt!)
Maybe someone (your Mom or Dad or maybe even Ian!) can update your site after your Duke visit. I hope you get an excellent report and that you have a great time!
love, karen

Hey Leigha! I am so glad you were able to get the classes you wanted. I so enjoy coming to see all of you guys as part of our annual trip south for better beaches! This year was great....even if we squeaked it in on the last day of vacation! I will be keeping all of you in my prayers as you head out in two weeks for check ups and SHOPPING! Have a great school year....sounds like it will be a tough one....but from what we talked about at lunch I think you will do fine! Give everyone our love!

Leigha,

I went to school with your mom. She and I were best of friends for a long time. Please tell her is was soooooo great seeing her and your dad at the reunion. I'll see you all the next time I bring the family to MB...promise.

I'm glad you're doing better....and yes, those AP classes CAN be challenging. But it WILL pay off in the very near future.

Dude sounds like quite a character. I picture him to be a 100 pound version of my cocker paniel, Max. But man am I glad Max is not that large............

It's also GREAT to hear that you have found a church where you feel you "Belong". Spiritual grounding, as you will come come to see as you get older, is an essential part of life. Because when you feel like you're all alone.....you KNOW that God is with you.

God bless and stay well!

Leigha,

I went to school with your lovely mother, and you look just like her! She was kind enough to forward me your blog and I must say, I'm pretty impressed with your "colorful" writing skills! I enjoyed reading about "Dude" too!

I'm so happy you are feeling great and not letting yourself get too jaded on chores, and other mundane stuff we HAVE to do daily! I know with everything you have been through, you really don't take simple things for granted in this life......

I will check in with your page to see if you have any great school stories to talk about and will forward this to my two girls, Molly (12) and Emma (10).

Take care,
Becky

Hey Leigha! It was so nice to see you when you guys came to Virginia last month. I just wish we all had more time to spend with each other. You guys always end up in such a whirlwind. Maybe the kids and I can come down your way in the near future. Good luck at your 2 year appointment. I am sure it will be all good!

It was great to see an update on your page. Happy 2nd birthday! Get those people in your new church praying for that knee, it does make a difference. If you find the right church, it's just like a second family. You truly are a gifted writer, keep it up! (Also, I signed up and swabbed for the Bone Marrow Donor Program)

Hi guys,
Sorry it has be so long since we have dropped by
but know that we think of you often and pray that
all is going well with you.Sounds like all of you
have been busy.We have had alot on our plate too.
We are glad to see that Leigha is doing so well
and pray the good work will continue.Leigha is a
special lady and we wish her well.It is hard to
believe it has been two year already. We thank God
for her donor and pray that he will be bless for
caring about others and doing something about it.
Too many times in this old world we think about our
self and forget others. What would this poor world
be like if Jesus had only cared about himself.
Please allow me to share a thought about our anger
toward God about why bad thinks happen to good people.
I believe it is normal at times for us to question God,
but we have to understand that satan has great powers too
not as great as God but never less great power. In order for God to stop the bad that satan unleases on the world
God would have to end this old world and maybe that it is
His longsuffering with us to allow more to come to him that
he allow this world to stand. One day he will halt satan and destroy him and his follower and God's people will be
with him in the new world that has been prepared for us
where there will be no sorrow,no pain,no more death not
even a tear.Won't it be wonderful there.
You guys have great week and keep us updated
Love Paul & Janet

Sorry to hear that Leigha will
need more surgeries. You will be
in the best hands possible at Duke. Sorry
the other Dr. said the things he did.
No bedside manner at all! We will be praying for the surgery to be a complete success! Great news about the donor!

Oh My gosh I did not realize you had updated! I am so happy that you did. I gave Jared a hug from you! I really hope you get to meet the donor in the way Leigha wants. How nice it will be to say thank you in person. I wish that we could thank our cord blood donor but from what I understand we can't do that. Hope Leigha's leg gets better quickly and that you are all enjoying the summer. We go back to Duke the end of July any chance you will be there?

Hey Leigha!! Sorry I haven't written before this. I've been thinking of you though, and miss seeing you at MUSC! Can-Teen didn't get any money to do anything this past year, since the boat cruise, (or upcoming year), which is why we haven't invited you on anything else. If we get to do anything in the future we will definitely include you! I'm glad you're doing well- you look awesome!!! love, Michelle (Child Life)

I am thrilled that your trip to Duke went so well and that you are so healthy (well, except for the bum knee). It must be awesome to be off all of those meds. Hope you all have a great weekend!

Hi, Mary here. I want to update, but I don't want to remove Leigha's personal entry because who knows when she will update again-probably next Christmas! I just wanted to say that our trip to Duke last Friday was lovely and all the lab results came back great. She can stop her steroids, so she is basically off all of her medications. She takes the weekly med for her knee, which is not getting better. Dr. Prasad ordered an xray, and it seems to have progressed a little more. Leigha goes back to Duke in April and will have an MRI and meet with the orthopaedic dr again. All in all things are great and we are so very thankful. We have also been going to the gym together and Leigha rides the bike while I do eliptical. It was great to see Leigha's team. Deb was on the bone marrow unit, but we went by for a visit. After the appointment we stopped at the Barnes and Noble we like in Durham and went to Carabba's. (we were both very strong and did not eat the bread, even though we love it- b/c we are both doing the South Beach diet together!) I'll update soon.

I would have posted a reply sooner, but I had to recover from the shock of seeing a personal update!! I'm so glad that things are going well and that life is so "normal". Happy very belated birthday!!!! I cannot believe that you have your learner's permit already (I bet your parents can't believe it either). Hope that you all had a great Christmas and a fun New Year. Let me know if you guys make it up to Virginia this year. Have a great week!

Your vacation together sounds great!! I am so glad you had the opportunity to do that! I know when our family went camping together in Aug. it was a great re-bonding experience. I wish there was time for more of that!
I also know the feeling of anxiety that being seperated could happen again.
Whenever Jared has to go inpatient my Robbie asks me if it
will be like when we were at Duke. I always feel so bad for my other boys too and how they are also feeling.
So glad Leigha is doing well! Tell her we need to here from her!!!

Leigha,
so sorry to hear u r feeling under the weather - hopefully u will kick that virus' butt real quick! And I know your check up in Duke will go swimmingly!

Soooooo? R you going to Charleston on the 18th???? Please say you are - I would so love to see you and your mom. It'll be just Laurel and me (again)- nothing new there. I am so looking forward to it! (And Laurel's 7th b-day on on the 19th!) Speaking of which, we'd love to have you come to her b-day party (although it will be full of 6-8 y/o's). At the Caribbean. (Pool Party) wasn't sure if you were healthy enough for that - they do use lots of chlorine - or is that bad? eeeks!

Hey Mary-
Just checking in, but I didn't actually expect to see a new entry. I'm sorry to hear not only that Leigha is sick, but also that she is feeling so miserable. Leigha, get better soon!!! I hope you were given some good antibiotics and that they have had a chance to make you feel better. I'll be praying for a good check-up on Friday.
Hang in there, Mary! (Of course, I know that you will).

Good luck with the studies. I know we will be hearing some great results! Also good luck with the job. Before you know it you will be closing the deal! I also can understand the mixed emotions you feel. I am so very thankful that Jared is doing well but always have that panicky feeling in the back of my head. You really can't help it after being at Duke and seeing what can happen. We will be thinking of you and sending good vibes for great results this week!

Leigha, I cannot believe how much you have changed!!!!! You look so grown up! I am so glad to hear that the Lift for Life went so well. The family and I have been out of town for the last week and the kids start school tomorrow so I missed out on letting the people I know who were interested in joining the registry that Kelly had the kits. I am going to try to get word out tomorrow that she may be able to hold on the to the kits until Wednesday. I have about 5-6 people who are interested and we would love to be able to help out. Way to GO!!!!!!!!!

Leigha & Mary,
It was so nice seeing you guys Saturday at the Family Fun-tastic event! I was so worried when you didn't show up! And to come on and see that Leigha has another fever? ugh! Feel better girl!!

Flash called me this morning to yell at me (*blush*). Seems I didn't go up and introduce myself to her. Well, what do u expect, she was running from one place to another - never standing still for a moment! LOL Laurel thoroughly enjoyed the slides and is looking forward to next year. Flash did invite us to her Thanksgiving Dinner - so let me know if you plan on going again! The Halloween Party happens to be the day before Laurel's birthday! (OMG, her 7th! and 4 yrs almost to the day since diagnosis!). Love to all!

So I RACED (or rather clicked quickly) to see Leigha in a dress) and NO PICTURES! I saw the family in Mexico, GEne Simmons and that other dude and then "end of picture album '
I know that I am technically deficiant, but how did I miss them! Thrilled you had a great time at camp! That validates that my vison 26 years ago was right on. Remember the Balloon ceremoney was created just for you kids, I created something "emotional" (oh ok, it does make all of us cry) that would stay with us all a life-time. I remember Mike Super, he is fabulous. Ah, Charlie and I miss camp, but, FUN-TASTIC Family Reunion is next week, so get well soon, soon, soon!! GREAT UPDATE Leigha, Can't wait to see you!

I don't think I will be able to pester you for another update for months. Seriously, you are off the hook until at least September. I am incredibly happy that you were able to go to camp and love that it was such a meaningful experience for you. And way to go on keeping the "not dirty, not germy, not stupid" promise!
