Hi Nick,.... hope you and your mom are doing well and have all settled in. By the way, are you still able to check these guestbook entries from you computer in Taiwan? We forgot to get your email in Taiwan before you left. If you see this message, please send us an email so we have your email address in Taiwan. Also if there is anything you need from the U.S., let us know and we'll bring it with us at the end of June when we leave for Taiwan. We will call you after we arrive in Taiwan and hopefully we'll be able to meet up with you in Taipei.

Hi Nick,
My name is John Donnelly. I am a Rotarian in Old Saybrook, CT. I am the Inbounds coordinator for YE in our district 7980. One of my favorite causes is the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I have run 4 marathons and raised around $ 15,000 for the Society. I will be running another marathon in Vermont on Memorial day. I hope somebody has been in contact with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in Philadelphia. They can help you and your family cope with your sickness. I hope you are feeling better at this time.
As a word of encouragement, I have sponsored three kids as my honored patients for my marathons. All of them have made it. Two of them needed bone marrow transplants. Both my wife and I and the host mother for our exchange student in our town volunteered as bone marrow donors. In fact, over 300 people became donors as a result of a drive put on by our YMCA.
Please give my regards to Mr. Barrett. You are very fortunate to have a good friend like him.
Big hugs,
John Donnelly

Nick,
You must feel great to be back in your own room at the Hesses'. With your Mom at the side along with the Hess family, Aunt Anne, Cousin Phil, and all the wonderful "angels" who disguise themselves as Rotarians, you have fought a great battle so far. We know you are destined to appear victorious. So many people are with you in their thoughts and prayers. Be upbeat and cheerful, because a merry heart is a good medicine. :) --- Dan and Sherida

Nick,
I am one of Dr. Hess's "angels". Several years ago, I was in an accident that I should have never survived, but here I am! I had my own angel watching over me that day, as you have several watching over you every day. I am so glad to hear that you are doing much better! The good Lord works in very mysterious ways, many times we have no idea what his purpose is, let alone, try to understand it. Have faith and he will lead you and protect you. I refused to be conquered by my injuries. It sounds like you are fighting the same battles! Continue to be strong,
continue to fight, and continue to have faith. You will conquer! I wish you all the best and will keep you in my prayers. I hope you get to go home soon!

Hi Nick, We are members of First Pres Church and we are praying for you and your family. I believe God planned for you to be here when you were diagnosed to receive the best care in the world. I (Chris) wanted you to know that 3 years ago I had leukemia (AML). I was treated at the Hospital of the University of Penn right next door to CHOP. I went through a bone marrow transplant and am doing very well. It is a tough road to travel but if a middle-aged lady can do it- so can you!!! I know first hand what you going through and what lies ahead and my family knows first hand the difficulties your family is experiencing and they have the added burden of being in a foreign country! We will ALL continue to pray for you to have strength, courage, and faith through the treatment. I rode on a recumbant bike in my room almost everyday and walked around the hospital floor when they allowed me to. Try to stay as active as possible to stay strong. You are lucky to have the playstation- I listened to many books on tape and wrote to my friends and family on a lap top. We are prepared to help you and your extended family in any way we can. May you feel God's love through all who care about you.

Dear Nick: I met and spoke with you when you came to Senior High Youth Fellowship at First Pres in September...I'm one of the advisors. Everyone at SHF was shocked to hear you are so sick---we never imagine being so seriously ill when we are young. But God is taking care of you----thankfully the CML was diagnosed, and thankfully the medicines are working! Please know that many people are praying for your comfort and safe healing----even many who do not know you. I hope that when you feel lonely or discouraged, you can imagine all of us who hold you in our hearts and prayers as if we encircle you, and you will be lifted up and comforted. We pray for a smooth and speedy recovery! Love, reid willis, Sky & Grant Null

The entire Rotary Youth Exchange program is thinking of you and each praying to our own God for your speedy recovery. Many of us have had relatives with this problem and have seen the tremendous advances that have been made in the treatment. Even though we are not there with you, you are not alone.

Tomorrow, March 2nd is the 100th birthday of Dr. Seuss. He reminds us when we are facing difficults times:

Its a troublesome world.
All the people whore in it
are troubled with troubles
almost every minute.

Just tell yourself, Duckie,
youre really quite lucky!
Some people are much more
oh, ever so much more
oh, muchly much-much more
unlucky than you.

Nick: We have not met. I am in Rev. Hess' Friday AM study group. Bill tells us from time to time about the fun he and his family are having with you. I want you to know that 5 years ago this coming May, my daughter was in CHOP after a sudden diagnosis of leukemia. She is now in good health and going to college. You are in the care of some of the best doctors on earth. People come from all over the world to be treated there. We continue to pray for your recovery and comfort for your family. I hope we can meet very soon. (I know some secret places down there were kids in recovery can get food they really like when they are allowed)

Dear Nick, I was reading Psalm 20 today. I have this message. "Some trust in horses, some in chariots, we trust in the name of our Lord". You have a heart of an angel. It is not coincidental that you have come from far off to be in the shadow of His wings. Be of good cheer. God is with you.. Pannir Sharon Immanuel Maria and David

Hi Nick! We have never met, but I've heard a great deal about you over the past months. While these days are uncertain for you and your family know that you are in good caring hands, both medically and spiritually. I am familiar with your condition as my brother was diagnosed with CML in 1993. He received a bone marrow transplant from our younger brother. It was a battle, but what sustained him through the process of recovery was a positive mental attitude, prayer and the belief that he was not alone in his struggle. You are not alone Nick. The people who surround your bedside and pray for you are with you. Lean on those special people who can help carry you through the tough times.

My family and I shall keep you and your family in our prayers.
