Warren,
LOVE the new look to your caringbridge page! Enjoy the rest of your summer. Hey, I gave your name to a lady whose son has MD, but her friends son was just diagnosed with Burketts Lymphoma. So if you hear from a stranger, it may be them, looking for help.

When I saw Mark and the boys at OMSI, I couldn't believe it when he told me how close you were to delivery! Time flys, but if I remember right, it doesn't seem to fly when you are the one expecting! :)

I will certainly be praying for you and Baby Nathan. I'll look forward to some pics.

Tamra, your e-mail spoke volumes to me and reassured me that I wasn't an awful person for not reaching out to others right now. It is just too painful.

I agree about the long term effects. They told us that this would just be a "bump in the road" and when it was over we could on with our "normal" lives. Yeah, right. Treatment has left us with big holes all over for Kennedy and no end in sight. I think they tell us that things will be okay rather than give us the whole truth to avoid scaring us but somehow I feel lied to...not protected. We signed something with possible side effects but were told they were rare and that things would be okay. Kennedy getting liver failure was supposed to be extremely rare and virtually impossible for her case...still it happened.

It is good to see Warren doing well...I LOVE your family picture. Your children are all so beautiful! We continue to pray for a safe delivery for your new baby. And we continue to pray for all of you.

Thinking of you...

Hi Mattox family!

It has been a while since we have seen each other (St Baldricks, I think). We are continuing to keep you in our prayers. All has been fine here as we enter into the "normal" mode of maintenance. God has been ever patient with us and we know of his love and kindness in all things (even when we complain). We hope all good things for you.

Hi Mattox Family,
Today is the 1 year anniversary of us moving from Portland. We still check on here and check in on your family. Hello Warren and family. My name is Denard Jones. I am Cheree's father. I remember praying for you while Cheree was sick. Sometimes in the middle of the night while we were at the hospital during her transplant at Providence Portland.

It's so amazing how our Great God works. I never would have thought that my youngest daughter would get sick too. She's just 15 now and doing well. Would you believe that she has Dr. Norwood as a doctor too? Crazy.

I pray blessings on your family and feel a unique connection to your struggle. The Lord is good and faithful. We trust Him with all of our hearts for our children.

Cheree is doing well and will come back to Washington with us for a few weeks after BreAnna's big appointment on the 20th at Emmanual.

In Christ,

Hi Mattox Family! I'm glad to hear that you survived another scan and will be praying for good results tomorrow. We think of all of you often and pray for you daily. I think this depression thing is catching as I too am struggling right now with it. The slightest thing can set me to tears and I can't help but pour over pictures of Kennedy before her dx. I feel as if I can't remember what she was like before. I do hope everyone is well and just know that we truly care for all of you.

Beautiful poem, Tam.

Tami,
I TOTALLY understand your frustrations with scans to try and check for recurrance when they don't even look over the entire body...Olson told me...it costs too much so we only look at his original site and his lungs. It it's anywhere else in the body, we don't check until there are symtoms! Too ridiculous! And we have to scan every 3 months!

I'll be praying for you and Mark about depression...it hits Don and I off and on too...I think that's normal.

Check out 2 Kings 4...the Shumanite woman...God really has been teaching me a lot through that story...the Shumanite woman and Elisha...

No, he broke his right arm. This is his left one, up at the top. It was probably his lymph node hurting (right arm) when he had the cancer, and he could be having a swollen lymph node right now from a germ, I guess.

Hey guys! Just wanted to let you know I'm thinking about you and I love you. Is Warren's arm pain in the arm that he just broke? Just wondering... Keep us updated if you have time.

Hey Tamra, I remember when I was little and I told you one night that I was afraid to go to sleep. You told me that when you were afraid of something you would imagine God's giant hand covering you up and protecting you from the bad stuff. Needless to say I slept pretty well that night, and many nights since then. You're a great mom with an admirable amount of love and patience with your kids. They know you and Mark love them so much.

Have a great weekend!

Hey Warren! Have you made a movie yet out of the 850 pictures you took of me standing there at Ryan's birthday party at the park? Oh good, because I'm sure we could sell a lot of those to people who are into 29 year old mothers who stand there, cut some cake, and then stand there some more. Breath-taking footage, I'm sure. Don't worry; I'm prepared for all of the media attention. Too bad you didn't have your camera at the fourth of July party! Me on that 6-way teeter-totter was a producer's dream! Happy Birthday, Warren!!! Are you really 13? That's craziness. Pure craziness. You used to be 5. In fact I even remember when you were born, because your mom was kind enough to let Naomi and me witness the "miracle" of birth. Yes, it was that day that we both vowed never to have children, because you weren't exactly easy on your mom. Looking back on it now of course I realize how amazing it really was and I remember when you came out and they handed you to your mom you were crying A LOT. Your dad leaned over and shielded your eyes from the bright lights overhead and you quieted right down. I always wondered how he knew that's what you needed but I guess sometimes parents just know. (Did you like that little moral lesson I threw in there? Yeah, I thought so.)

I love you! I'm so glad that we still have you.

Hi Warren,

You don't know us well but we have seen you and your Dad around the hospital. From time to time we drop by your web-site to see how you are doing. The more often you update, the more often we check! I am so glad you are a cancer survivor!!! You took on cancer and beat it - way to go! If you want to hand out candy again on movie night, maybe my little daughter Madeleine would join you. She would think it was great to help other kids in the hospital. Keep up the good work in school and maybe we will see you around. Please know there are many people who think of you often and pray for your continued healing.

Mark, Tamra, Warren and family,

I'm here even if I don't post in your guestbook and I do check the site almost everyday. You guys are such an amazing family and even if you do not know it, God is using you to inspire and give hope to other families in crisis.

I hope you understand that I meant "normal" in the new sense of the word. Being in the middle of the firey blaze (and having been here for almost a year!), it is hard to imagine not being in hyper-sensitive mode all the time. I was really looking for (and secretly hoping) that off treatment would allow for some sense of "normality." With 11 months of hard, weekly chemo and a year and a half to go before we hear that Kennedy is "off treatment," I was really longing to know that there would be a deep breath coming as opposed to the feeling of hyperventilating. Of course, I in no way wanted to minimize the stress in your life...I'm just trying to get through all of this myself.

Please know that we continue to pray for clear scans for Warren, a life pain free for Mark and healthy, long lives for all of you. We feel so blessed to have met you on this journey.

Praying for you,
Melenie

I update Josh's site frequently (almost daily) and there are many days where no one signs the questbook either. I know people are out there, but they don't always say "Hey!" So just know Tamra, we are out there reading about you and Warren and Mark and the boys and baby Heather...we just don't always sign.

Warren, I hope you are doing well in school! Has your mom made a decision about homeschool? I am no longer going to homeschool our children. It's been 14 years, but I think God is telling us to send the girls and Josh to Cor Deo, so that's what we'll do in the fall. Warren, I'm so happy you are a SURVIVOR! WAY TO GO! ARe you enjoying your laptop? I'm so glad you went to hand out candy on movie night. Let us know when you are going to do that again and maybe Josh and I will join you!

Tamra, I'm going to the post traumatic stress talk this Tuesday night at Spagehtti Factory with Candlelighters. I'm going with Kathi O'Brien. Maybe you could go to. I know it's not Christian based but it will be good to hear that my feelings and emotions post treatment are normal. The meeting is for parents and there's a free dinner! I'm serious about handing out candy with Warren. Call if you are going again and I'll see if I can take Josh and we can help too! E-mail me and I'll send you my phone number.

I'm sorry I've been rambling. Just know we are out there reading up and you ALL and praying!

Love,
Joshie's mom,
april

Hello Mattox Family,
I just want to let you know that I check in on you almost every day. I like to hear what is going on with your family.

Tamra and Mark, I hope that solutions will be found for your medical problems and that they will be simple and reasonable. It is tough enough to be parents, much less parents of a child with cancer (even once cured), and you definitely don't need medical issues of your own to deal with, too.

Warren - keep up the good work in school. It is important that you keep going strong. You can be an inspiration to many. I am so glad that you are CANCER FREE! Both you and Rebekah! Hooray!

As for "normal" life, I'm not sure there is any such thing as "normal" life at this point. There is "new routine" and continuing life, but would I call it "normal"?

Good luck with everything. Life can be pretty hectic and it sounds like yours has been. May God continue to bless you in many ways.

Hi guys! Just wondering how Warren's cat scan went... Hopefully all is clear! Warren, Tom said he saw you at the store the other day and you looked like you were having fun getting ready for your "Lord of the Rings" marathon. If someone made me watch all of those in one night I would probably be too scared to ever sleep again. Hope you had fun! Take care and we'll see you guys soon.

Hi guys-
I just wanted to let you know how much I love you. It was so nice to see your family all together at Thanksgiving, and Warren having fun with the cousins. I am praying hard tonight for Warren's fever to stay away, for Mark to have relief from leg pain and infections, for baby Heather's tiny body to be resistant to the chicken pox, and for Tamra to have the much needed energy to keep up with it all. I am praying the hardest for you all to feel God's loving arms around you, and to rest in the peace that passes any kind of understanding or reasoning that we may be able to come up with on our own. I pray that you will give your worries to Him, since this is what he commands, and leave tomorrow to Him. We don't have to bear it all alone- pray for peace and remember that He and only He knows what our future holds. Give it all to Him and pray fervently for the ability to continue to give each new worry and concern and earthly obstacle to Him and He will be true to you. Believe in Him. Trust in Him. Rest in Him. "Come to me all who are weary and I will give you rest." This He has promised, and we must accept. WE CANNOT DO IT ALONE! Give it ALL to Him and don't look back- begin each day anew. This is extremely difficult for anyone with a normal life to do, so I can only imagine the strength it must take for you to allow Him to carry you through such a difficult time. But if He says it, He WILL do it. Believe it with all your heart. My heart aches for you and I cry as I write this, for I cannot begin to imagine the toll this last few months has taken on your family. I just pray that the last chemo treatment goes quickly and hopefully uneventfully, and this will be a chapter in your lives that will end, and the page will turn. Take care and know that you guys are loved by so many people and thought of constantly. May God give you peace that passes ALL understanding.

Hey Mattox Family,

Hope all is going well. We haven't been in the hospital to stay for about 2 weeks, so we don't really know how Warren is doing. No news is good news!

Just wanted to let you know there is a little gift for baby Heather at the clinic. We left it there for her last time we were in for CBC's.

Hope you all are enjoying eachother and adjusting to a new baby in the house...and a baby GIRL at that!!!

Thanx for consenting to a family baby shower at such short notice! It was really fun and so nice to see you guys (we missed you, Mark, but hope you had a great retreat!). Warren, I'm always so impressed to see you getting out every chance you get. You look so good! Jared, it was really sweet of you to play checkers with Landon when he was starting to get sad. Hi Warren & all!

Just wanted to say that you are all in our prayers. Bethany, Michael & Abbie pray too. May God make Himself and His everlasting love abundantly real to you through these times. I have always found it to be wonderful looking back on hard times, to see how clearly God was working. Sometimes we see it at the time, but often not until later. May His presence bless you greatly both now & later.

Hi guys! Warren, I didn't tell you how fun it was playing checkers with you the other day when you and your brothers came over. Thanks for "re-teaching" me how to play! I haven't played in so long that I think I am officially old now. Oh, and by the way, whenever you and I play we can make up our own rules and use chess pieces again. That was great! Anyway, I'm really happy that you got to come home yesterday and I hope you get to stay there for a while! I'm sure your baby sister can't wait to come out and see her biggest brother. Love you!

Hi Warren, your mom just sent me a link to your web page. Do you know how many people are praying for you? Everybody who knows you is praying, and a lot of their friends who don't know you are praying too. It's amazing! Did your mom tell you my story of how God answered my prayer to find a new church? We all know God cares for us, but sometimes we don't realize how much until things like that happen. I'm praying for you as you're getting another treatment. Hi, Warren and family. We are so glad to read you are home and we appreciate your Dad's notes that give us specific prayer requests. Are you able to go to the Camp Angelos picnic this Wednesday? I know it is hard to get out when you counts are low, but thought maybe since it is outdoors... Warren, would you be interested in some used Game Cube games to break up your time - We came across Shrek 2, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a Motocross bike one and a Daytona car race one? Do any of those sound like something you'd like to play when you feel well enough? Also, I wanted to ask your parents who is handling the Cord Blood Storage - when we saved our daughter's the Red Cross handled it and got it stored for free in a hospital in California. I could look up the contact info unless that is who they are using and there is now a fee. God bless you guys. oj biber

Hi Warren, You are in our prayers. Your dad was in my 5th grade class at Lynch Plaza School years ago. He told me I
inspired him to become a ham radio operator as a result of me bringing my ham radio into the classroom. My purpose was twofold, of interesting the students in ham radio and the science of electronics. May the Lord allow you to have a complete recovery. Thanks to all the people praying for me, my heart is in regular, normal rhythm for the first time in three years. My doctors didn't think this was possible, but with the Lord all things are possible including your complete recovery.

We are continuing to pray. Thanks for the updates so we know how to pray more specifically.

Dear Warren and Mattox family,
We are so happy you are home! Only Jesus! We finally met your daddy last chemo round. He sent us a wonderful note and we so appreciated it. We are home with Joshie now. He is doing well. Only 1 more chemo for us to do!!! Praise the Lord!!! It's been a LONG year. We also have to stretch his esophagus, so he can eat and may have surgery to stabalize his neck.

I'd like to share about a very good book I am reading. Maybe your parents would like to read it too. It's called Amanda's Gift by Scott MacLellan. I reserved it from the library, but Emanuel's library might have it too. I didn't check. Scott is a Christian and his little girl has been through years of chemo, surgeries etc. He gives practical advice as well as spiritual advice about taking care of a sick child. It's really a VERY GOOD book to read.

Warren, we pray for you and all the other kids that we know going through Emanuel's Children's Oncology clinic. It's tough to see sick kids, but we know God is in control, loving us, healing us, comforting us. God is good. As the African's tell my husband, Don,..."God is impossible!" This is their way of saying how powerful, amazing and unfathomable He is!

All our prayer,
Joshie's Mom,
april and family...the Brenneman 7
PS: We have homeschooled for 13 years! I hope your daddy can go to naturopathic school some day. We work with a naturopath and he has been very helpful!

Warren, we haven't met yet but I joined your homeschool group unofficially last May. It was a suprise to hear your name come up during that meeting because I had just analyzed your bone marrow a few days prior. Your marrow was remarkable. I don't remember everyone's name and what their cells looked like, but yours I did. Your marrow was so packed with leukemic cells. And to my delight the very next one was so "clean". That's what we call it anyway. We keep track of everyone's progress in the flow cytometry lab, that's where I work at Good Samaritan. Sometimes kids marrows come in after chemo and there is no change and it is heartbreaking for us. But your malignancy cleared at a fantastic rate. Now it's a matter of getting those last few leukemic cells that are in the resting phase. Eventually they come out of their resting phase and begin to proliferate (divide quickly to make new ones.) When that happens the chemo is effective but it can't get them while in the resting phase. I'm sure Dr. Norwood has told you all this. I am praying for you and think of you every day I go to work. I hope to actually meet you soon. Denise Kowalski

Thanx for sending this link out! It's a good reminder and I've added it to my "favorites." This is my first time to see it and I'm glad to have a way to see how you all are doing, instead of waiting for someone to tell me. Tamra, it was really good to see you yesterday, you are looking so good! I'm so glad and impressed that you made time to visit Lydia. She called my again last night and said what an encouragement it was to see you and how much better she feels since talking with you. As I'm moving, I'm glad to know Lydia has others to visit her, especially since our only communication will be through letters for a while. Jared and Ryan, it was really fun taking you out to the park with the Howard kids. You boys are very sweet and it was nice to see you! Mark, I'm sure you don't need advice, but the Campbell's Chuncky Vegetable soup was one of the only things I could tolerate when my infammatory stomach stuff was really bad--and with crackers, of course! Tamra, I remember we were talking about Warren's anxiety with all that's going on. Lawrence suggested a website at which you can order age appropriate guided imagery relaxation tapes, which he has used and his step sons have used. The site is healthyjourneys.com. I believe this site in specifically for children dealing with illness and Lawrence said to just be aware of the age groups for the different programs as many of them are for young children. It takes a bit to get used to, but eventually it is very helpful. Sorry I've taken up so much space writing. I love you! ~Naomi

I passed along the address to the entire group and I'm sure many of them will share it with others. Hi Warren! I'm your Chemo Angel. I don't know why I didn't think to find your Caring Bridge page sooner. That's not something that they tell us... so I played around until I found yours. I try to keep up with most of the Louisiana ones (since that's where I'm from), but since I know your address now... I'll be checking in every day. I hope that this finds you feeling awesome!!! Mom and Dad, brothers, if you need anything EVER... let me know. I'm praying for you all in a big kind of way! Lots of love!!!

Hey Warren!
You don't know us, but we read your web site and you are doing AWESOME!!! You are so BRAVE!!! Our 5 year old is going through yucky stuff too and you are setting a good example for him. Thank you!

Hey Warren's dad (sorry can't remember your name)
We've been praying for you all. Thanks for having people pray for us too. Joshie will be for round 12 of chemo this July 5th...same date as Warren. Maybe we could all meet. Just depends on how Josh is doing. Sometimes he isn't very social. Let's see what the Lord works out.

Isn't there anyone in your church body, who could do those "to do" list of things at home for you? It woudl be such a great help for other dad to come and take care of those little projects for you and your family. We have 1 person at our church who I call and I just tell them what we need done and they send someone out to do it! It's WONDERFUL! Anyone out there willing to help this family? I'm sure there are, because one thing we've learned on this journey is how loving, caring and helpful the Body of Christ is. They sure know how to be the hands and feet of Christ!

Maybe we'll see you on Tuesday. I hope you get to be home for the 4th of July!

Joshie's mom,

Warren,

Happy Birthday!! You are 12 years old, how awesome! We are praying for you!! We miss you at youth group and can't wait until you can join us all the time! Hebrews 12:1-3 tells us to "Fix our eyes on Jesus" and it goes on to talk about our need to remember how Jesus suffered for us and as he did that he had his eyes fixed on his Father in Heaven and the glory that was set before him. I encourage you to cry out to Jesus all day and night and rest in his love for you. I know this is hard, but it would be much harder without Jesus! We love you Warren.

Hi Tamera Mark and boy's. We havn't heard how Warren is doing lately. My fault. I still love him deeply.
Our Preacher was killed on a Motorcycle accident. We have been busy praying for him and his family. Happend on May, 31st and died this passed Saturday. His gas tank blew up when he hit a pick-up, and horse trailer, who was turning left on a hill. He was badly burned and several broken bones. Burned his face head arms hands and chest. Had the whole road covered. No chance. Also his brother on another motorcycle went over the truck when he hit it broadside coming over a hill. Couldn't see. He has several ribs broken and a broken back in lots of places.
Pray for the Dickinson family please. We are sure praying about Warren. Love you all, Aunt Oneta and Uncle Nick.
