Hi Angel Meguire
My name is Jenna and i came across your site. I have never met you, but I know that you were a wonderful handsome, amazing, courageous, brave, strong and determined kids. You fought untill you couldn't fight no more. What an amazing story! My heart goes out to you! I had a cousin who died from Lukemia two weeks before he reached his 18th birthday. His brother gave him his bone marrow. My cousin also had the Make a Wish foundation forfill a dream for him. He was from the Cleveland area and was a huge fan of the Cleveland Indians. His wish was to be buried in his favorite players jersey and he was. I commend you for sharing your trials and the many people you have touched with this story, including me.

It is the will of God and Nature that these mortal bodies be laid aside, when the soul is to enter into real life; 'tis rather an embrio state, a preparation for living; a man is not completely born until he be dead: Why then should we grieve that a new child is born among the immortals? ~Benjamin Franklin, 22 February 1756

A Message to Meguire from Aunt Sandy:

"Walking with Meguire"

It was a warm August afternoon at our family reunion. I came outside the shelter house, to walk around the park. Most all of the children were playing, happy signs of summer. As I started my stroll I heard a small voice "hey Aunt Sandy, can I walk with you" I turned and looked down beaming up was the sweet face of Meguire. {My thoughts raced back to when he was a toddler, when he began this battle with his life threatening illness. He will be 9 in October and still fighting his long time enemy.} "High buddy, how have you been" I said to him. "Oh pretty good" he responded. We walked and talked about nothing and everything. As he chatted I looked into his face, and I realized I was with the most heroic person I would ever know, my heart filled with love for him. By the end of our walk I had a warm feeling that I would always remember.

It is April, early Spring about 3 something in the morning Meguire's Memaw just called..."Oh God our grand creator hold on to his memory so I can approach him in Paradise and say "Hey Meguire can I walk with you?"

If tears could build a stairway
and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to Heaven
and bring you back again.
No farewell words were spoken,
no time to say, "Goodbye."
You were gone before I knew it,
and only God knows why.
My heart still aches with sadness
and secret tears still flow.
What it meant to love you-
no one will ever know.
But now I know you want me
to weep for you no more;
To remember all the happy times,
life still has more in store.
Since you'll never be forgotten,
I pledge to you today-
A hollowed place within my heart
is where you'll always stay.

I was never given an opportunity to meet your little angel but he's given me so much inspiration in the short year that we've been in contact and his story has touched me in ways that make me feel as tho I knew him personally. I wish that things could have been different for you guys. My heart aches with sadness to learn that he's lost his battle. He didn't go down without a fight tho. He was a true hero in my eyes. Meguire was a blessing, a true gift from God, and he was blessed to have such a strong willed and loving family. I pray that the good Lord above gives you the strength to see you through the difficult days, weeks, and months ahead. Please take comfort in knowing that God has a better plan for him, that there's no more pain, no more suffering, and that this is only goodbye for now. I like to believe that God calls his children home so they can prepare and pave the way for the ones they love when it's their turn to make this incredible journey into a much better place. He's shining down on you as your guardian angel and will be with you always in your hearts and spirit. He will live on through his brother (even if they were exact opposites and liked to drive each other crazy as most siblings do. LOL!) Hold fast to all the good memories you've made together over the years. Rest in peace, Meguire. See you on the other side, little guy! Hugs, love and prayers ~

Hi Meguire,
I know you don't know me, but I'm a long time friend of your Mommy. She and I went to school together when we were your age. Your Daddy and I grew up in the same neighborhood but I didn't get a chance to meet him until he was a grown up. I'm so sorry to hear that you had a bad day today and I hope that the days ahead get much better. I love reading the updates on your caringbridge website. Your fight and battle with cancer gives me inspiration. I know that being sick isn't much fun but you're so brave and you're a lucky little boy to have family and friends that care about you so very much. I have two daughters that are very close to yours and your brothers ages. My oldest (Karraleigh) is 11 1/2 and my youngest (Kerrianne) is 4 months older than you are. She will be 10 at the end of June. You've got to get better soon so your Mommy and Daddy can bring you and your brother out to our place for a bon fire. We can roast marshmallows, play video games, and I bet the girls would even like to see your HUGE Matchbox car collection. :) Please know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Stay strong, little guy! You truly are an angel. Hugs and kisses.

Hi Meguire,

I am on the Corvette forum and read about you. I wanted to say hi and say you have an awesome family and friends. I like your matchbox collection to. My Mom yelled at me and took my matchboxes a way when I was little because I would turn them into stunt cars and mash them up. haha. I put one under my Dads tire and it flattened it almost paper thin. Dad was not to happy about that because it could have popped his tire. haha! Well now I am all grown up and I still do stupid things. I had an 1989 Corvette that I lost control going around a curve and wound up taking out 3 picnic tables and fence to a restaurant. Was so glad it was closed at the time but now I keep my eyes straight on the road instead of fiddelin with the stereo knobs. haha

Well I wanted to stop into say hi and send you my fondest wishes!

You stay strong and be strong, you're a great fighter and I have another hero to look up to. I wish that I was closer to you, I'd come give you a ride in my 1984 Corvette....you probably already know that the Crossfire's weren't that fast, but I'll let you in a little secret....they ARE pretty fast! Hey Meguire!

Just heard about your love for 'Vette's and came over from Smokin' 'Vettes to find out about this great little boy with the great big positive attitude. I'm sure that you know your helping many others by showing that you can smile when sometimes you may not feel so well. We all need an occasional reminder of just how very, very fortunate we are. May God bless you and comfort you. Always know that God loves you and you're very special to Him! I'll send you some pics of my 'Vette in the mail tomorrow.

Meguire - saw on the Corvette Forum that you are a huge fan of the Corvette. Well, me too. I've had a passion for them for as long as I can remember and I'm 55 years old now.

Went to a local all-Corvette car show yesterday and there were over 160 of them there. You would have loved it I'm sure.

We're all thinking about you and wishing you the best in getting well. If you ever get to Missouri, I'd be honored to take you for a ride in my Corvette. God bless and keep your chin up.

Hi MEGUIRE. I understand that you and I both like Corvettes. I have been a Corvette fan since I was about 5 years old. It sounds as if you were about that age when you discovered Corvettes too. They are wonderful cars. Once you become a Corvette guy you are always a Corvette guy. Whether you know it or not you are now part of an exclusive group of friends that always watch out for and take care of one another! Save the wave my friend!

Hi Mcquire,
I always check on you but, never sign your guest book. Im Sorry! We never get to talk. Your grandma says you want to be a vet. I have 6 cats and I just got a cocker spanial puppy! Named Mr. Baylee. He is 6 months old. Mcquire he is a handful! Are you interested in training animals like the dog whisperer. I bet you would be good at it! If you decide you want to do that let me know when your feeling better. Mr. Baylee would be honored to be your first puppy in training. I guess they have some good books and DVDs you can get from the library on how to train them. Let me know what you charge. I heard puppy trainers make good money! I will have your meemaw take a picture of him so you can see him. So hurry up and get your energy back. Spring is around the corner. I left my email just in case you want to talk.

Hi, my name is Dominic. Sandy is my grandma and I am about 1 year younger than you. My grandma told me how sick you are and all the problems you have with your body. We looked at your whole site together, it made me very sad. I'm hoping that you'll get better. I think it must be painful to be in the hospital so long. Because we are close to the same age, it scares me to think that it might be me. Me and my grandma and my sister prayed for you. Goodbye and good dreams, Dominic PS. One morning in general parayer, I felt God said to me "pray for Smith". I didn't know any Smith and didn't know what to pray for. I dismissed it as overactive imagination. In two days, I happened to be talking to Meguire's Grandma, she told me about Meguire and I said I would pray for him, what's his name? "Meguire" she said, "Meguire SMITH". At that monent, God said, "This is that Smith". I have been praying for you every day since then.

Guire,
I just love you. It is always an honor to take care of you and your family. I remember like it was yesterday, the night you were admitted from the ER. I was your nurse that night. We were all so saddened by the news. You, however, were so brave and upbeat, as usual. No one would have ever known how sick you really were. Thank you for being such an inspiration. You are truely one of the most awesome people I know. U Rock.

To Meguire and family,

I am so very sorry to learn of the turn that your road has made. So very sorry. As the father of a little gal around the same age, diagnosed with ALL almost at the same time and a relapse, I would have thought that I could relate better. But the truth is, I can't get my head around what you are going through. All I know for sure is that I am behind you all in prayer and support. I wish you the strength to face whatever the days ahead may bring you, and that your Meguire can fight his way through this.

Hi Christie!

You last journal entry is definitely not a rant! It is one of the most beautiful entries I have ever read! I am thrilled that you were able to get in touch with Mequires bone marrow donor! I can only imagine how that would feel and how it would stir up a ton of different emotions!

I think its wonderful that you and your husband are on the bone marrow donor list! I have every intention of doing the same thing very soon! I have thought about doing it for sometime now!

I know how hard it is to have a child with cancer but I can only imagine how scary a relapse and bone marrow transplant would be! I am so happy that everything turned out well and prayers that Meguire will remain cancer free FOREVER!

Sending lots of hugs and prayers your way!

Hi Meguire, I was checking in on some new friends of ours, and saw your site and wanted to say Hello. My name is Jeff aldridge, and my 9 yr old daughter, Jenna, has (ALL). We were diagnosed on 12/16/05, so it is very encouraging to read up on an "old pro" and see how well you are doing. Like you, we have had our share of setbacks, but God is so good and is carrying us all the way to the finish line! Please stop by our caringbridge site: (jennaaldridge) and say Hi! You are in our prayers.

Thanks for reminding people to tell their children they love them every night. Mornings and afternoons are good, too.

Kindergarten will be fun. It will be hard for the other families to appreciate it as much as you will.

Hello Smith Family! We're so happy to hear that all is well, except those pesky counts. Darn things anyway. We hope that you are enjoying the freedoms of home and not stressing too much over numbers, worrying won't change anything (this would be the pot calling the kettle black, of course) and only makes a beautful day gloomy. Snatch a hug and a kiss and go PLAY!
Eden had her tubies taken out on May 25! She got her first fingerstick on May 26: YUCK! Even so, she went hot tubbing for the first time in almost a year! WOO HOO! Maybe you could get some hot tubbing in while you wait for your docs to confer with Columbus?

Hey just wanted to drop by and tell you how great it is to hear that things are going well. Mcguire really seems to enjoy the hospital in Columbus. We wish that these kids didn't like the hospital so much sometimes. Alexis is back in the hospital again, she went in on the 15th of Feb 7pm. We are running a fever and haven't gotten the results from the blood cultures yet. so it's fever tylenol, fever tylenol and so on until we know what beast we are dealing with this time. Tell Josh I know how he feels as I've been back and forth to Toledo while Erica stays at the hospital with Lexi. It stinks but we know that's what we have to do...We just have to be thankful for the brief visits at home between hospital stays!(it sure seems that way lately)
Hope all is well with everyone, tell Josh to get some sleep those long drives aren't easy when you are drained. You're in our prayers daily and prayer is a very powerful tool keep up the good work Guire we'll check in on you soon!

Hi guys! Happy Valentines Day! I'm glad to hear that Meguire's doing ok. I hope that the GVHD stuff goes away or is maintained easily, that's not something that we had to worry about since Eden got her own stem cells back. The little man sure looks like he's holding up well. I hope that Mom is doing ok, too. I can't imagine how hard it is to be so far away from family and friends. Keep up the good work and tell everyone at Childrens that Shelly says Hi. Eden and her mom and dad are there for her first check-up (and platelets) since she got out. Someone will be there every other day for a while, look out for them in the halls. Tell Mequire that I can't wait until he can run me over with the car again!

Hi Meguire! What great pictures from your trip! I had sooo much fun looking at them. I wish I could have been there with you. I rec'd your thank you card for the lite brite. I wanted to say that it's ok if you don't send me thank you cards every time--I know how expensive stamps are, and you need to use your money to help you get well!!! Someday tho, I would LOVE a little drawing from you! Anything you did yourself would be great, and I would keep it in my scrapbook. I would REALLY LOVE that, and then I would send YOU a thank you card!! Ok, that's all for now, I pray everyday for you, and will be sooo glad when all this hospital stuff is over and you can be home again, and feeling great! I Love you, you little cute guy! We were supposed to go on the cruise 18 months ago, when he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He has been looking forward to this trip for months. We decided not to use his Make A Wish on Disney so we are staying in a hotel on the property. I hope our weather is as perfect as yours was.

Hey little guy! Hang in there. Just remember God always has plan "B". I don't know how God makes things all right; I just know that ultimately he does. Sometimes he reaches out a finger fom heaven and in a moment the most hopeless situation is infused with light and life. Sometimes it's as if God closes the book and there is nothing more to say. I don't always understand everything with my mind, but in my spirit I know without a shadow of doubt that God is here, God is still on the throne; it's going to be all right!

Your Cousin,

Sean

Hi Meguire,
Thank you so much for visiting Spencer's CB site and the kind words in the guestbook. We are finally making it by to check out your website. Great job - love all the photos! I hope you all get to go on your MAW trip in December, it will be nice to have some fun before you have to deal with the isolation that comes with transplant.

Chrisie, you mentioned that they are having trouble finding a suitable bone marrow match...have you looked into cord blood? It is usually a lot easier to get a cord match. It doesn't need to be a perfect match since there is less risk of GVHD. They use different criteria to determine a match - Spencer only had a 4/6, which would be similar to a 4/10 match with bone marrow.

The memories are still pretty fresh for us, so I have an idea how scary this is for your family. The time between the relapse call and going through reinduction was the hardest for us and for Spencer too. But the sun will shine again on the other side of transplant when you see Meguire recovering and don't have to deal with chemo anymore. Time flies by much faster than you would expect post-transplant.

My thoughts are with your family. Sending many good wishes and prayers that Meguire's transplant goes as smoothly as possible and his recovery is speedy. Love, Kerri and Spencer Rocket

Alexis was so happy to see you at the clinic on Monday, we ended up going over for a short stay because her hemoglobin was at 7. Today we were at clinic and her platelets are down to 47,000 so we may be back again on Friday. To the whole Smith family---from Aunt Opal--Often times we fail to see the Blessings in our lives...For in the midst of our own pain, We fail to realize That God has never left our sides; He's just a prayer away...And when we trust Him with our needs, Our troubles soon will fade. Let's not forget to look above With thanks and gratitude...No matter what the future holds, The Lord is there for us. The only thing I can truly say---is how sweet, wholesome Meguire is---how he just keeps taking everything out there---with a smile. God has a purpose and a plan---it is not for us to question or understand---maybe that is why he seems like such a little angel. We enjoy every minute with him----there is a purpose and a plan. God Bless each and everyone of you---you are like the stars in the heaven---I know you are there---please know we care and love you very much. Aunt Opal and Uncle Glenn.
