Merry Christmas To All!

Dear Connie,

Jeffrey was remembered at Holy Eucharist on Christmas Eve and on Christmas morning. I hope this note finds you and all of your family well.

O God, you make us glad by the yearly festival of the birth of your only Son Jesus Christ: Grant that we, who joyfully receive him as our Redeemer, may with sure confidence behold him when he comes to be our Judge; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Dear Connie,

I was thinking of Jeffrey today, so I am here, looking at his handsome picture on the main page. I continue to remember Jeffrey beneath the Jesus and the Children stained glass window, in our church.

God bless you.

I have been thinking of Jeffrey recently. His spirt has helped me deal with my own health problems. It was an honor to take you flying over D.C. You touched us all even though your visit here in Washington was brief. That goes to show what kind of loving soul Jeffrey is. God bless you and your wonderful family.

Blessings To All On The Feast Of Pentecost!

Dear Connie,

Jeffrey was remembered in Holy Eucharist this morning. Pentecost has always been one of our favorite holy days, as we love the red colored clothing that many people wear and the red altar clothes. It is also a festival not generally spoiled by commercialism, although a very young Andrew once suggested marketing "Pentecost Pizza."

God bless you always, and of course, God bless your sweet son, Jeffrey Scott Newbauer. (It does not seem possible that he "earned his angel wings" over three and a half years ago.)

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

Today's Collect:

The Collect:

O God, who on this day taught the hearts of your faithful people by sending to them the light of your Holy Spirit: Grant us by the same Spirit to have a right judgment in all things, and evermore to rejoice in his holy comfort; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

+++

Hail this joyful day's return,
hail the Pentecostal morn,
morn when our ascended Lord
on his Church his Spirit poured! Alleluia!

Like to clove tongues of flame
on the twelve the Spirit came--
tongues, that earth may hear their call,
fire, that love may burn in all. Alleluia!

Lord, to you your people bend;
unto us your Spirit send;
blessings of this sacred day
grant us, dearest Lord, we pray. Alleluia!

You who did our forebears guide,
with their children still abide;
grant us pardon, grant us peace,
till our earthly wanderings cease. Alleluia!

Dear Connie,

When I read at St. George's yesterday, and when I attended both Eucharist and Christmas Lessons and Carols today, Jeffrey was in my thoughts and prayers. I also prayed for you and for other loved ones of Jeffrey. May God bless you all.

I hope you have been enjoying this Christmas Weekend and will enjoy the remaining days of Christmas. May this season of blessing give you hope for a joyous reunion with Jeffrey and for many other good things to come.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

A Christmas Affirmation
by John Killinger

I believe that Christmas is more than a time for parties and ornaments; it is a time for remembering Christ and the incarnation of God’s love in human flesh. I believe there are gifts more important than the ones under the Christmas tree, such as the things we teach our children, the way we share ourselves with friends, and the industry with which we set about reshaping the world in our time. I believe that the finest carols are often sung by the poorest voices, from hearts made warm by the wonder of the season. I believe in the angel’s message that we should not be afraid – that the Child of Bethlehem is able to overcome all anxieties and insecurities. I believe in prayer and quietness as ways of appropriating Christmas – that if I wait in silence I will experience the presence of the One born in the stable, for Jesus lives today as surely as he lived then. I believe in going away from Christmas as the Magi went – another way. I want to be different when these days are past – more centered, more thoughtful, more caring. And I believe God will help me. Amen.

Blessings To All On The First Sunday In Advent!

Dear Connie,

Jeffrey has been remembered, in Holy Eucharist, on Saturday and Sunday. May God always bless his sweet spirit.

In addition to lighting the first violet Advent candle this morning, we sang five Advent hymns, at St. George's. One was new to me. I will add the words and tune link below below.

I am thinking of you, and of all of Jeffrey's loved ones, during these days of hope and preparation. God bless you always.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

Bless'd be the God of Israel who comes to set us free
and raises up new hope for us: a branch of David's tree.
So have the prophets long declared that with a mighty arm
God would turn back our enemies and all who wish us harm.

With promised mercy will God still the covenant recall,
the oath once sworn to Abraham, from foes to save us all;
that we might worship without fear and offer lives of praise,
in holiness and righteousness to serve God all our days.

My child, as prophet of the Lord you will prepare the way,
to tell God's people they are saved from sin's eternal sway.
Then shall God's mercy from on high shine forth and never cease
to drive away the gloom of death and lead us into peace.

Dear Connie,

On the anniversary of the 9/11 attack, I am thinking of you, of Jeffrey, and of those brave souls that perished in New York City, in Pennsylvania, and at the Pentagon. Among those individuals are two somewhat connected to me. One was a classmate in high school, whose wife was also a classmate, and the other was a priest, who at one time served at Siena College, a few miles from our home. (A prayer of that priest is below.) May God bless your hero, Jeffrey Scott Newbauer, and may God also bless all those, who perished serving others on 9/11/01.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

These words are always so very comforting! Praying!
Romans 8:26-28 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Dear Connie,

Because May 31 fell on a Sunday this year, the church is remembering the Visitation of the Virgin Mary today. In many ways, all of us who are mothers, share in Mary's motherhood of the Holy Child. So, may we too, be blessed, as the collect says, in keeping God's word.

God bless you always.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

Today's Collect:

Father in heaven, by whose grace the virgin mother of your incarnate Son was blessed in bearing him, but still more blessed in keeping your word: Grant us who honor the exaltation of her lowliness to follow the example of her devotion to your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Weekend Blessings To All Mothers!

Dear Connie,

I am thinking of you and of all nurturing women in Jeffrey's life, on this Mother's Day Weekend. May you all be well and be blessed.

Jeffrey will be remembered at Eucharist.

To My Mother

~by Wendell Berry (born 1934)

I was your rebellious son,
do you remember? Sometimes
I wonder if you do remember,
so complete has your forgiveness been.

So complete has your forgiveness been
I wonder sometimes if it did not
precede my wrong, and I erred,
safe found, within your love,

prepared ahead of me, the way home,
or my bed at night, so that almost
I should forgive you, who perhaps
foresaw the worst that I might do,

and forgave before I could act,
causing me to smile now, looking back,
to see how paltry was my worst,
compared to your forgiveness of it

already given. And this, then,
is the vision of that Heaven of which
we have heard, where those who love
each other have forgiven each other,

where, for that, the leaves are green,
the light a music in the air,
and all is unentangled,
and all is undismayed.

O Sorrow Deep!

O sorrow deep! Who would not weep
with heartfelt pain and sighing!
God the Father's only Son
in the tomb is lying.

The Paschal Lamb, like Isaac's ram,
in blood was offered for us,
pouring out the life that he
might to life restore us.

Blest shall they be eternally
who ponder in their weeping
that the glorious Prince of Life
should in death be sleeping.

O Jesus blest, my help and rest,
who tears I pray thee, hear me:

The Collect For The Sunday Of The Passion (Palm Sunday):

Almighty and everliving God, in your tender love for the human race you sent your Son our Savior Jesus Christ to take upon him our nature, and to suffer death upon the cross, giving us the example of his great humility: Mercifully grant that we may walk in the way of his suffering, and also share in his resurrection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Traditional Palm Sunday Processional Hymn:

Refrain:
All glory, laud, and honor
to thee, Redeemer, King!
to whom the lips of children
made sweet hosannas ring.

Thou art the King of Israel,
thou David's royal Son,
who in the Lord's Name comest,
the King and Blessed One. Refrain

The company of angels
are praising thee on high;
and mortal men and all things
created make reply. Refrain

The people of the Hebrews
with palms before thee went;
our praise and prayer and anthems
before thee we present. Refrain

To thee before thy passion
they sang their hymns of praise;
to thee, now high exalted,
our melody we raise. Refrain

Thou didst accept their praises;
accept the prayers we bring,
who in all good delightest,
thou good and gracious King. Refrain

Revelation 21:1-7 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

Glad Epiphany To All!

Dear Connie,

On this holy day, I am thinking of you, and of sweet Jeffrey. We are having nasty weather, and I am not feeling my best, so I did not get out to Eucharist tonight. I am contenting myself singing some of my favorite Epiphany hymns. I will include the John Mason Neale hymn that not many people know, but which is probably my favorite. Tony Barrand and John Roberts, who study and perform traditional music, are the ones that introduced it to me. It is on a couple of their Nowell Sing We Clear albums and also on a William Pint and Felicia Dale recording.

God bless you always.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

Over the Hill and Over the Dale
by John Mason Neale

Over the hill and over the dale
Came three kings together
Caring naught for snow and hail
Cold and wind and weather
Now on Persia’s sandy plane
Now where Tigris swells with rain
They their camels tether
Now through Syrian lands they go
Now through Moab faint and slow
Now o’r Edam’s heather.

Over the hill and over the dale
Each king bears a present
Wise men go a child to hale
Monarchs seek a peasant
And in front a star proceeds
Over rocks and rivers leads
Shines with beams incessant
Therefore onward, onward still
Ford the stream and climb the hill
Love makes all things pleasant.

He is God ye go to meet
Therefore incense proffer
He is king ye go to greet
Gold is in your coffer
Also man he comes to share
Every woe that man can bear
Tempter, railer, scoffer
Therefore now against the day
In the grave when him they lay
Myrrh ye also offer.

Over the hill and over the dale,
Riding east together
Caring naught for snow and hail,
Naught for wind and weather
Warned by God from Herod’s door,
Each king turns for home once more
Hearts and footsteps lighter,
Now behind them shines the star
Which they followed from afar,
Shining ever brighter.

+++ Remember, each time we encounter the living Christ, we continue with hearts and footsteps lighter. +++

Today's Collect:

O God, by the leading of a star you manifested your only Son to the peoples of the earth: Lead us, who know you now by faith, to your presence, where we may see your glory face to face; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

A brand new year stands before us. Sometimes a new year is very hard to face. Other times a new year is welcomed with open arms, with hopes that it will be better than the last one was. However you look at it, know that every day of this new year is in the Lord's Hands. He's already there waiting for you with open arms. And I'm here praying as always.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

I really haven't been signing guest books as much as I once did. It seems strange to me, that the last time I wrote to you, I wished you well in your nursing studies, and now, you have graduated, passed the boards, and are actually working on the floors. May God bless you in your new career.

I hope you had a good Thanksgiving Day. If you are at all like me, you ate too much turkey and trimmings, but you also had a lot of fun with family.

God bless you always, and God bless the memory of sweet Jeffrey.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

Now thank we all our God,
with heart and hands and voices,
who wondrous things hath done,
in whom his world rejoices;
who from our mother's arms
hath blessed us on our way
with countless gifts of love,
and still is ours today.

O may this bounteous God
through all our life be near us,
with ever-joyful hearts
and blessèd peace to cheer us;
and keep us in his grace,
and guide us when perplexed,
and free us from all ills
in this world and the next.

All praise and thanks to God
the Father now be given,
the Son, and Holy Ghost,
supreme in highest heaven,
the one eternal God,
whom earth and heaven adore;
for thus it was, is now,
and shall be evermore.

Words: Martin Rinkart (1586-1649), 1636
trans. Catherine Winkworth (1827-1878), 1858

Music: Nun danket alle Gott (later form of melody by Johann Crüger, 1598-1662)

1. Abide with me! Fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me!

2. Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day;
Earth's joys grow dim, its glories pass away;
Change and decay in all around I see.
O Thou, who changest not, abide with me!

3. Not a brief glance I beg, a passing word,
But as Thou dwell'st with Thy disciples, Lord,
Familiar, condescending, patient, free.
Come not to sojourn, but abide with me.

4. Come not in terror, as the King of kings,
But kind and good, with healing in Thy wings;
Tears for all woes, a heart for every plea.
Come, Friend of sinners, thus abide with me.

Happy Flag Day To All!

Dear Connie,

I guess almost everyone loves a parade. One of the largest Flag Day Parades in our nation is held each June, in nearby Troy, NY, the home of Uncle Sam Wilson, meat packer during the War of 1812. We have missed it this year, as it was held earlier in the week, but our thoughts are toward our country this morning.

Our thoughts are also toward your family. Jeffrey will be remembered in the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, at St. George's.

I hope we hear good news from you in a few weeks regarding the successful completion of your nursing program. It's a tough one, but you can do it.

God bless you always, and of course, God bless Jeffrey.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

Dear Connie,,

Jeffrey was remembered in Holy Eucharist this afternoon. A beautiful young boy was baptized. I have known Sean's dad and grandparents for a long time. It is always special to observe a baptism and to renew my own baptismal covenant during such a service. I wonder how many times that would be, if I could count them all.

When the Eucharist was over, I stayed in church, a while, as I almost always do, to pray for you, and also to pray for other parents, whose children are in heaven.

In going over some guest books tonight, I noticed one of the other mothers has posted several pictures of her children playing ball. We had one large blue ball, that we used in the pool, which was almost too big for an adult to catch, as well as pails of golf balls, Nerf balls, basketballs, bouncy balls, tennis balls, four square balls, footballs, and many other kinds. I know Jeffrey had a keen interest in baseball and also played golf, so I am sure you had a garage full of balls, too.

God bless you always.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

Today's Collect:

Do not let your Church close its eyes, O Lord, to the plight of the poor and neglected, the homeless and the destitute, the old and the sick, the lonely and those who have no one to care for them. Give us the vision and compassion with which you so richly endowed your servant William Augustus Muhlenberg, that we may labor tirelessly to heal those who are broken in body or spirit, and to turn their sorrow into joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. When I was thinking about today this hymn came to mind immediately so I wanted to share it today. Know that I'm praying!
1. There is a fountain filled with blood
Drawn from Immanuel's veins,
And sinners plunged beneath that flood
Lose all their guilty stains.

2. The dying thief rejoiced to see
That fountain in his day;
And there have I, as vile as he,
Washed all my sins away.

3. Dear dying Lamb, Thy precious blood
Shall never lose its power
Till all the ransomed Church of God
Be saved to sin no more.

4. E'er since by faith I saw the stream
Thy flowing wounds supply,
Redeeming love has been my theme
And shall be till I die.

5. When this poor lisping, stammering tongue
Lies silent in the grave,
Then in a nobler, sweeter song
I'll sing Thy power to save.

Almighty God, we pray you graciously to behold this your family (the assembled church), for whom our Lord Jesus Christ was willing to be betrayed, and given into the hands of sinners, and to suffer death upon the cross; who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Collect For Wednesday In Holy Week:

Lord God, whose blessed Son our Savior gave his body to be whipped and his face to be spit upon: Give us grace to accept joyfully the sufferings of the present time, confident of the glory that shall be revealed; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. ~Palm Sunday Blessings To You All!

Dear Connie and Family,

We had the reading of the Passion, at Saturday afternoon Eucharist today, and it will be done again, tomorrow, at all of the services. It is always such a solemn, reverent occasion.

My thoughts are with you tonight, and I will remember Jeffrey, and think of you all, throughout Holy Week.

God bless you always.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

The Collect For The Sunday Of The Passion (Palm Sunday):

Almighty and everliving God, in your tender love for the human race you sent your Son our Savior Jesus Christ to take upon him our nature, and to suffer death upon the cross, giving us the example of his great humility: Mercifully grant that we may walk in the way of his suffering, and also share in his resurrection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Still praying but wanted to share such special verses that remind us all that much more importantly the Holy Spirit Himself is praying for each of us perfectly according to His Will.
Romans 8:26-27 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

Ephesians 3:14-21 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Last weekend was a really busy time for me, so I did not get to Jeffrey's guest book on the 26nd. Please accept my apologies. Among other thinks, I sponsored a candidate for Cursillo, which meant I had to drive her to and from the retreat center last weekend, attend her closing service, and take a three hour spot on the prayer wheel. To My Jeffy- Through out this past year I could not have asked for a better guardian angel to guide and watch over me, I want to thank you for that. Each and every day I think of you and your incredible strength and it encourages me to be a better person. When my alarm goes off in the morning playing "Its a Great Day to Be Alive" I am reminded to get my butt out of bed and live that day to the fullest just like you always did. Anytime I feel the warm sunshine on my skin or lately the cool fall breeze I can't help but smile (a big cheesy mira smile) because I know you are there. Your presence is a constant reminder that life is precious, and that family and friends (especially ones like you) are a gift from God. So thank you Jeffery for being such an amazing person and an even more inspiring angel. I appreciate you and your place in my life more and more each and every day that passes. I love you Jeffy!

An Appropriate Hymn:

By all your saints still striving,
for all your saints at rest,
your holy Name, O Jesus
for evermore be blessed.
You rose, our King victorious,
that we might wear the crown
and ever shine in splendor
reflected from your throne.

For Luke, beloved physician,
all praise, whose Gospel shows
the healer of the nations,
the one who shares our woes.
Your wine and oil, O Savior,
upon our spirits pour,
and with true balm of Gilead
anoint us evermore.

Then let us praise the Father
and worship God the Son
and sing to God the Spirit,
eternal Three in One,
till all the ransomed number
who stand before the throne
ascribe all power and glory
and praise to God alone.

Just wanted to let you know that I think of Jeff and your family often. I just read about you going to nursing school, wow that's wonderful. Good luck with it. I'm sure you'll make a great nurse.

Dear Connie,

Today is the tenth anniversary of the passing of Mother Teresa. Recent information in the news, taken from her letters, indicates that she struggled for years, as many do, with spiritual dryness. Please let the knowledge that the great ones of faith struggle with problems, doubts, and dryness, help you, as you struggle with missing Jeffrey.

I have just paused, here, at my keyboard, to pray for all of you, and to remember Jeffrey.

God bless you always.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

Colette

I don't know what God is doing. He knows.  We do not understand, but of one thing I'm sure,  He doesn't make a mistake.

~Mother Teresa (August 27, 1910 - September 5, 1997)

Happy Labor Day, Guy/Newbauer Family!

I have just had an email from my cousin, Jennifer, who has two little boys. Liam, a new age five, called it "Pregnancy Day," so they have had a discussion of the various meanings of "labor" this morning, before heading out to the parade.

I hope, that what ever plans you have for today, you have a positive day, full of good memories of Jeffrey and of the hope of heaven.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

Collect For Labor Day:

Almighty God, you have so linked our lives one with another that all we do affects, for good or ill, all other lives: So guide us in the work we do, that we may do it not for self alone, but for the common good; and, as we seek a proper return for our own labor, make us mindful of the rightful aspirations of other workers, and arouse our concern for those who are out of work; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Continuing to lift your family up to the Lord in prayer!
Romans 5:1-5 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

Dear Connie,

I think of Jeffrey beneath the Jesus and the Children window, often. I also remember his friend, Michael Billington. May God comfort both you and Mike's mother, Pat.

Today's saint is Augustine of Hippo, a great scholar, writer, and teacher, in the church. A very important thing about Augustine, is to remember that he had a good mother, as did Jeffrey, who prayed for him.

God bless you always.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

Collect For Feast Of St. Augustine Of Hippo (August 28):

O Lord God, the light of the minds that know you, the Life of the souls that love you, and the strength of the hearts that serve you: Help us, following the example of your servant Augustine of Hippo, so to know you that we may truly love you, and so to love you that we may fully serve you, whom to serve is perfect freedom; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Continuing to pray so very hard!
Isaiah 43:1-2 But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

Besides picking the verse one of the hardest things I do is try to find different ways to say "I'm praying." I'm praying for your family!
Psalms 5:1-3 Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation. Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray. My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.
