Aren't you glad that summer is finally here! The weather here in the Pacific Northwest has been a killer for me since I don't do well in the cold. We even had snow on the 11th! But this weekend was gorgeous an the temperature is holding on in the 70's range. That is my favorite so I am thankful!
I saw your notes about school this summer. I took Abnormal Psych about 12 years ago for a psych degree and my memories of it are pretty funny! One of the first things the prof told us was that by the end of the semester we would have all felt a little bit psycho! That was sure the truth but it was an interesting class. I enjoyed my psych classes because they really helped me understand myself better as well as my family and friends so enjoy :0)

Well today is the 1st day of your Summer Classes & hopefully all is going smoothly for you. Thanks for the update.
All is well here, keeping as cool as we can, and praying we don't lose power today, when the severe thunderstorms (they've posted) come our way.
At this time last Monday we lost phone and internet for over 15 hours, then this past Saturday we lost power for a little over 3 hours due to storms.
there saying were in for a bit of a cool down, this will be welcome relief.

YAY! I'm so glad you're on your way. NOBODY deserves a good twist of luck more than you guys do!

We may get home the same day. Plans for trach and resp. rehab are underway, and will NOT be finalized until we have had time to unpack and acclimate (and won't be done here). Even then, I need several weeks to build up for that, and home is where we plan to be. And Costco.

Hi. I found your page six years ago via "Band-Aides and Blackboards," back when Convomania was around, and have followed since. I have mitochondrial myopathy (MELAS/MNGIE features) and WOW do I know what you mean about the care at knowledgeless hospitals. Cincinnatti is great, by the way, and so is Mott Children's at the University of Michigan. I think you should insist on transfer.
I'm 32, and do most admissions at a large hospital close to home rather than Children's, 75 miles away, where my MDA clinic is.
Places that DON'T do NMDs don't recognize NIV as volume ventilation, and call my vent a CPAP, a BiPAP, whatever. We had to put a sticker from my pulmonologist on it to identify it. The scary thing is, they use the LTV 1000 as transport vents here-- and mine is an LTV 1000. They don't know their own machines, dear God. They have one in-ex on peds, which NOBODY can work, so I bring my own. And counter to their policy, I bring MY vent, am extubated to MY vent and adjust my settings. I'm scheduled at Children's for a trach, because of a pneumonia that won't die. I sure don't want a bedside procedure in ICU.
Every day when I read your updates, I want to give you guys tiaras (Brenda gets TWO tiaras) for getting through this stuff. You are tough ladies. Keep updating!

Leilani and I have the day off from school and she is
having a lazy day. She woke up when I got here but is now
sleeping in..... I love being able to have her do that LOL
altho if she needs to sleep she does just that but sleeping in her chair doesnt look all that comfortable.

MJ! I'm on OurKids and I'm so glad I came to your site to view your pictures. I was curious about how you were managing with the trach, etc. One word of advice. I hope you tolerate the HS treatments. Savannah takes 7% HS two times daily and hates how much it makes her cough.
Savannah too has been fighting some type of infection. We are waiting on her culture results.

Sorry about all breathing problems. I hear ya on that. Have you tried Pulmozyme? It's great for plugs. And Pulmicort is good for asthma/reactive airways...I hope that improves.

I sure hope the new meds help.
Those meds are on Savannah's list as well. She takes the DuoNebs 6 times daily and the inhalers are just a couple of times a day. She hates having to do the DuoNebs so much.
School sounds like it is going well. Miranda is already finished with finals and is home for the summer. She too had a great Freshman year.
