Hello everyone,

Today is Wednesday we are all ready to come home. We went to the leather district again and Shawn and I had lunch with Sue, Jerry and Jorge Rico at a Colombian restaurant. We then came home and walked to Uni Centro and did our last minute shopping. We arrived home to find empanadas and lemonade. We had aji aco for dinner (Shawn's favorite Colombian dish) and a tasty chocolate log for dessert. It was very difficult, but we said our good byes to Alicia, Ladyies, Okenis, Annette and Betty.

We do not know where or how to begin on saying thank you. We want to thank God for showing us our way to FANA. Shawn is our 6.5 year miracle baby. There are no words that can express how grateful we are to Jerri for all of her direction, guidance and help the past year. Thank you to Mercedes for giving us Shawn-she made our all of our hopes and dreams come true, to Flora for putting this beautiful little boy in our arms, to Elizabeth and the FANA staff for the wonderful care that they gave Shawn, to Maria Teresa for assisting us through the process, to Annette for making our adoption process so easy, to Betty and the girls for making us feel like we were at home, to Alicia for watching Shawn and showing us the ropes. We also want to say thank you to the Tedesco’s and Schauer’s for helping us make our time here in Bogota enjoyable.

To all of the FANA families that we have met throughout the year, you each have added so much to our lives. Thank you for always being positive and for sharing your stories with us. We have made such wonderful friends that we would never of had the pleasure of meeting without FANA. We look very forward to spending many years with you and becoming stronger friends and for our children growing up together.

We want to thank all of our friends for their love and support over these past 6.5 ‘conceiving’ years. We know that there were many difficult times and you were all very strong for us and supportive. We do not know how we would have done all of this without you.

Last but not least, we want to thank our family for everything that they have done for us. We know that God heard all your prayers and we are so proud to be called your son, your daughter, your brother, your sister, your uncle, your aunt and your friend. A special thank you goes to our parents. The two of them have been so supportive, understanding and loving through every stage of our lives, especially during the past 6.5 years. Mom and dad, you both have been there every step of the way and we look forward to following in your footsteps. We look very forward to placing your grandson in your arms for the first time. FANA has not only made our dream come true-but your as well.

We are getting ready to go to bed and we will write one more time from home. Thank you to everyone for your Emails, phone calls and for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers. We look very forward for everyone to meet OUR SON-Shawn Anthony!! We have to say it one more time-OUR SON!!!!!!!

Good evening everyone,

We went shopping Monday to Santa Barbara but because of the holiday many stores were closed. We walked home and the weather was very nice. We all went out to dinner last night to a restaurant right around the corner from Betty’s-they had steak from Argentina. It was very good. We walked there about 6:30 and we arrived home around 9:00. It was a very enjoyable evening for food and good company.

Shawn had his last bottle at 6:30 and he fell asleep around 8:30. We then had to wake him up this morning at 7:30 to feed him. Annette picked us up at 8:30 to go to the US Embassy. It was very interesting to see the long lines. We did not wait in any of them-Annette took us to the front of the entrance ans we walked right in. We met another couple from Minnesota who also adpoted through FANA. They too had a beautiful boy. We were there for about 1.5 hours. We applied for Shawn’s visa and they said to come back at 3:00 to pick it up. WE ARE ALL DONE-SHAWN IS OURS AND WE ARE COMING HOME!!!!!!

We went to FANA and said our good byes. It was very hard to say good bye and thank you at the same time. Again, we expressed how thankful we were for this chance to become parents. We walked Shawn around and told him that we would someday bring him back. He was such a good boy during his adventures today.

We arrived home and we went to a bakery for lunch with Marcello and Mara. We stopped at Maku’s one last time and walked home. The girl who does manicures and pedicures was here. It was a surprise to see here as we thought she was coming tomorrow. I enjoyed my last Colombian manicure and pedicure before dinner.

We are getting ready to go upstairs and pack-TO COME HOME!!!!! We look forward to seeing everyone soon. Love and miss everyone-Shawn, Denise and Shawn Blair (I still smile every time I write those 3 names together!!)

Good Morning everyone,

It is Monday morning and we are getting ready to go shopping again....

Saturday was a nice day. We took a nice walk to the mall and the big boys hit the casino. It is so funny how there are casinos right in the mall! We were out for about 3 hours and then we came home to our amazing little man!! Shawn is getting so big and alert. He is starting to follow you when you leave the room or move. He loves his mobile. He is still sleeping through the night. He has a priceless smile!!!!!

We talked to my parents in Saturday night and everyone was over at our house fixing Shawn's nursery. According to them it was like an assembly line. Uncle Tony & Uncle Frank were putting the dressers together, Aunt Annie and Aunt Cherie were putting together the crib, cousin Frankie and Tony were painting the closet and cleaning the attic, Great Papa Frank was helping Grandma and Grandpa wallpaper, paint and put the rug in while Amanda was directing everyone!!!! They said that the nursery is ALL SET!!!! We can’t wit to see it!!!

We went upstairs around 8:00. The 3 of us got under the covers in bed until we fed Shawn at 10:30 and he fell asleep around 11:00. Big Shawn got up at 6:30 to go golfing with Maria Teresa at 7:30. I got up and got ready, waiting for Shawn to get up. I finally picked him up at 8:30 and he was so happy. I fed him and he drank 5 ounces.

Susan, Gerry, Scott, Nicole and I went to LaFontana and to the flea market. We got home around 1:30. The boys arrived home around 3:30. We all took a walk to the bakery and we had spaghetti for dinner. We had a birthday cake for Nicole turning 2.5!! She is such a cutie!

We waited up for Mara and it was so nice to see her!! We stayed up for a bit and talked to her and she fed Shawn his 10:15 feeding and we went to bed around 11:00. Shawn woke up this morning about 8:30 and we came downstairs to a full house.

We are getting ready to go to Santa Barbara again. We will write more later. Love and miss you all, the Blairs.

Saturday, March 22, 2003 10:22 AM CST

Good morning everyone,

Friday was a very busy day for us. I went shopping at Maku’s with Susan, Nicole and Jerri (Scott’s mom). We bought many beautiful things and we got caught in the rain on the way home. Since we did so much shopping, one of the ladies working there drove us back to Betty’s!!

We made it back by 12:45 and Annette picked us up at 1:00. We went to get Shawn's passport-he took 2 beautiful pictures (of course!!) and then we went to the doctor. The doctor talked to Shawn about golf and then he said little Shawn was ready to go home!!! We came back and filled out our INS blue paper. We are all set to go to the US Embassy on Tuesday.

We ordered pizza from Pizza Hut for dinner. It is nice having the house so full- Shawn, myself, Scott, Susan, Jerri, Nicole, Marcello, and of course the 3 boys: Shawn, Noah and Bodie. We are still waiting for Mara to return-hopefully tomorrow.

We went upstairs around 8:30 as Shawn was tired from being out in the afternoon. We put him in bed with us while we were watching TV. We fed him again at 10:45 and he fell right to sleep. He woke up at 5:00 am wanting a bottle and fell asleep again until 9:00 am. Daddy got up with him and fed him.

We then gave Shawn his bath-he still is not very fond of the water. After we dressed him he calmed down. We heard his wonderful set of lungs!! We came downstairs to a sunny morning. We are heading out shopping-trying to do as much as we can before we leave!!

We will see everyone Thursday and we will update again tomorrow night. Take care and we miss everyone so much. All of our love, The Blairs

Thursday, March 20, 2003 7:18 PM CST

Hi everyone-Shawn again slept through the night and is drinking 5 ounces. He had his 3rd treatment today and he sounds SO much better!!

Today we went to the Schauer’s presentation. It was a wonderful experience. Bodie is beautiful and Nicole is such a happy big sister. We all took videos and pictures of the new proud Schauer family!!

While we were there, Maria Teresa asked to see us and guess what??? She gave us the news that we could sign today!!!!!!!!!!! WE ARE COMING HOME!!!!!!! Annette picked us up at 2:00 and we signed our papers!!! We then went and picked up his birth certificate. Shawn is ours-all ours!!!! After that we went to Delta and changed our flight home. Tomorrow we are going to get his passport and take him to the doctor. Monday is a Colombian holiday-St. Joseph’s day and everything is closed. So on Tuesday we are going to get his Visa. We couldn’t get a flight out on Wednesday but we will be on a plane Thursday heading to good old Buffalo!!!! We are scheduled to come in at 7:17. We will supply the flight number tomorrow.

After we came home from Delta, we sat down to a very nice dinner with wonderful company. We are going to get to bed early tonight as we have a lot to do in the next week.

Thank you everyone for all your prayers, kind words and wonderful Emails. Everyone has helped our time away from home easier. Take care and we WILL see everyone soon! Hugs and kisses from the Blairs!!!

Thursday, March 20, 2003 8:26 AM CST

Good morning from sunny Bogota,

Today is Thursday morning and the sun is shining. It will probably rain later on in the day. Tuesday morning we woke up and took Shawn to FANA for a checkup. He weighs 12.98 pounds. The medication helped a little but Shawn is now receiving a puffer treatment once a day for the next 3 days. After the treatment he releases quite a bit of mucus. This takes the place of blowing his nose as he cannot do it himself.

Shawn, Marcello and I went to the Santa Barbara mall Tuesday afternoon. It was very big and beautiful inside. We had lunch their and I did pretty good ordering our lunch in Spanish (I used pictures and pointed to things on the wall!!) We came home to the happy boys with Alicia.

We went to bed around 11:00 Tuesday night and our beautiful, wonderful, special, precious little boy slept through the night.

Shawn woke up with Shawn at 7:30 on Wednesday. Shawn fed and changed Shawn before he and Marcello headed out for golf. Shawn put Shawn in bed with me before he left. I of course did not fall back to sleep as I watched him sleep. We noticed that Shawn sleeps just like his Uncle Frank, with his little hand over his head. He wakes up such a happy baby. We stayed in bed until 11:30. I was telling him all about his family and friends that he has waiting for him. He seems to smile every time I mention grandma and papa!!!

I stayed in all day doing laundry, went to the grocery store and taking care of Shawn. Hmm, I can get used to this!!! The boys got back from golf around 3:30 and they had a really good time. We sat down to dinner around 6:00 and we had filet, rice and a spinach soufflé. The food here is really good.

We were watching TV waiting for the Schauer’s to arrive. They arrived here around 9:30 and it is nice to have another family here. We are looking forward to their presentation Thursday morning.

We headed upstairs around 11:00 and we watched CNN. We are hoping and praying that this war is fast and that there is a peaceful outcome. I turned the TV off around 1:00 am.

I woke up this morning to Shawn holding Shawn (who was already fed!!) Shawn was holding Shawn in one arm and me in the other and he asked me if this is what Heaven was like. I smiled and I had the greatest feeling inside.

We will write more later on tonight. We miss and love everyone very much! Thank you to everyone for Emailing us-it definitely helps the days to go by.

Monday, March 17, 2003 7:27 PM CST

Hello everyone,

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!! Today was a rainy day again in Bogota. Betty and Annette were telling us that this is Bogota’s rainy season and it will rain from now until May…

Shawn and I want to Candaleria-the first city of Bogota. We were able to go inside 4 old churches. Jorge Rico gave us a brief description of each church. We were able to videotape only 2 of them. They were beautiful.

We walked around for about 2 hours and then we went to this circle where there were thousands of pigeons. They were so friendly-they would walk right up to you. At one point, I hid my face in Shawn’s chest as they were swarming us. Shawn found it very funny.

Jorge took us to a hotel/restaurant for lunch. Shawn and Jorge enjoyed the famous Colombian chicken soup and I had a variety of boiled potatoes and meet. Jorge was giving us Spanish lessons at lunch. The food and company was very enjoyable.

We then walked up this long hill to our car. On our way home we attempted to videotape the traffic. There are no words to describe how the people of Colombia drive. They do not observe stop signs and nobody gives anybody the right of way. We usually try to look at the other cars while driving or else I would have a heart attack!!!

We are taking Shawn back to FANA on Tuesday morning for a checkup. We are also going to get Shawn’s social history while we are there. Shawn has been on 2 medications for 1 week and I think that they worked as his congestion is going away. Shawn and Marcello are scheduled to go golfing on Wednesday-weather permitting.

Things are going good here. We miss everyone very much and we are looking forward to coming home. The Schauer’s will be joining us here on Wednesday night and we are looking forward to their arrival and to Mara returning on Friday. We are also very excited and honored that the Schauer’s invited us to their presentation on Thursday.

Well it is 8:30 and we are going to go upstairs and get ready for bed. We miss everyone very much. Lots of hugs and kisses to our friends and family from the 3 Blairs here in Bogota!!

Sunday, March 16, 2003 6:30 PM CST

Hello from rainy Bogota,

Today is Sunday and the weather has been rainy. The sun tries to come out for a few minutes & then it rains. We have had to light a fire the past couple of days.

We all went to bed around 11:30 on Friday night. For the first time, Shawn woke up at 4:30 for a feeding. He drank about 3 ounces and he was ready to go back to sleep. We put him to back bed and he woke up at 8:30 in the morning. He is taking his medicines much better now. I think y\the medicine is working as he sounds much better. We have to take him back to FANA on Tuesday.

Saturday we hung around the house. We skipped breakfast and I made steak hoagies for lunch. After we ate, we went to Jacques for coffee. Then we went to Baby Ganga for more shopping.

We went upstairs around 10:00 and Shawn fell right to sleep and woke up Sunday morning about 7:45. Big Shawn had some type of stomach flu during the night. I went with Betty and bought him some medicine. He has only had soup and crackers today. He seems to be feeling a little better as the day goes on. I did not go anywhere today-I stayed home and took care of my boys!

Well, we are getting ready to go upstairs to get ready for bed. We are scheduled to go on a tour of downtown tomorrow, but we will see how big Shawn feels.

We miss everyone and hope to see you all soon! Thank you again for all your Emails and good wishes. It is nice to hear from home. Take care and good night.

Friday, March 14, 2003 9:17 PM CST

Hola everyone,

Thursday night we went upstairs at 10:30 and Shawn fell asleep around 11:15. We woke up at 8:00 am this beautiful Friday morning, Shawn’s birthday. This little boy really likes to sleep through the night. During the day he takes 20 minutes cat naps. His beautiful little features are changing everyday. Don't worry mom and dad, we have lots of pictures!

We gave Shawn a bath this morning. He liked the bath but he did not like it when we took him out, he cried a little. We dressed him in his Yankee’s outfit, just like his dad. This is something I have dreamed about for many years. Seeing the gleam in Shawn’s eye today when he held Shawn with their matching Yankee outfits was priceless. I will remember this day and that feeling for the rest of my life.

Shawn and I went for a quick ride to the leather district this afternoon to pick up our jackets. They turned out very nice. It started to rain on our way back to Betty’s. When we returned. I had a manicure and pedicure. The total cost for both was 18,000 pesos (about $6.00 US).

We then went out to dinner with Mara and Marcello to celebrate Shawn’s birthday at Carbon de Palo. The food was very good as we all enjoyed empanadas and steak. It was a very enjoyable evening with very good friends.

We came home to find Shawn and Noah fed, changed and all ready for bed. Alicia is wonderful with the boys. I am looking at Shawn’s perfect little face and we thank God that He led us to FANA. As our dear friends the Anderson’s said “The great thing about FANA is on top of getting these beautiful children, we make exceptional friends.” Dave and Shari, you couldn’t of been more right. We have made friends locally, in Canada, in Colombia and all across the US that we never would have had the pleasure of meeting without FANA. On that note, we will say good night. We miss everyone and hope to see everyone soon!!!

Thursday, March 13, 2003 11:03 PM CST

Hi everyone,

More updates to Wednesday... We took Shawn to FANA on Tuesday and he was fine. The doctor prescribed a nose spray and a decongestion as he has a little mucus in his nose. Shawn does not like the nose spray but he is getting better with it every time. He is eating between 4-5 ounces at each feeding. He weighs 12.62 pounds and he is 23.75 inches long. The doctor said he is a beautiful healthy baby!!!!

After we went to the Hogar on Wednesday, we went shopping with Gladys and her sister in law. The store reminded me of a big super Wal-Mart, but bigger. After that we went to Gladys’s sister’s house for dessert and coffee. It was an original Colombian dessert and it was very good.

We then went home and Shawn surprised me with a dozen of pink roses in my room!! We enjoyed our barbeque-steak, hamburgers, hot dogs and salad. Everything was just like home except for the hot dogs. The hot dogs had an extra plastic casing over the meat. The boys ate the casing and the girls took it off. The next morning Betty said she was glad that the boys woke up today!!

Shawn and Marcello went to the casino on Wednesday night for about 2 hours. They both ‘donated’ some money but they had a good time.

Shawn went to bed at 9:45 and woke up at 7:00 on Thursday morning. He loves to sleep through the night like his mommy. He wakes up so happy. Shawn and Marcello went golfing with Arturo (Mercedes husband). They all enjoyed themselves very much. Mara and I stayed in all day with the boys. It was a very nice day. The older boys came home around 3:00. We had an Italian dinner-salad, garlic bread with spaghetti and meatballs. The girls do a good job of trying to make us feel like we are home.

We watched Survivor- Shawn and I on one couch and Marcello and Mara on the other. Shawn and Noah were next to us in their swings. We are going to bed now.

We miss everyone and we want to thank you for all of the good wishes. It is so nice to hear from home. Take care and we will write more tomorrow.

Wednesday, March 12, 2003 11:08 PM CST

Hi everyone,

We went to the Hogar Marguerite D’Youville Tuesday afternoon (this is where the birth mothers stay until they have their baby). I do not think there are words to describe this experience. Gladys from my February 2002 group picked Mara and I up at 1:30. We arrived at the Hogar and we did not know what to expect. We walked in and we were greeted by Maria Lucia (Mercedes daughter). As we walked through the house, she explained everything that the girls do. The facility holds up to 30 people. These girls are given the opportunity to learn skills such as computers, baking, sewing, knitting and other things that allow them to help themselves and their other children once they leave. The girls rotate the house functions including cleaning, cooking and laundry.

The Hogar provides hope, guidance and love for these girls. It helps the girls gain self pride and self esteem. After we toured the facility, we sat with about 14 of these amazing girls. At first we didn’t know what was going to happen. As soon as one girl asked a question, they all began to ask us various questions. It was an emotional day for all of us. As we listened and responded to their questions, it was very obvious to us that these girls loved their unborn babies very much. They were very concerned as to what waited for the children once they were adopted and if we had other family members. As I heard this question, I smiled. It reminded me of how lucky I am that Shawn and I are to have such GREAT and SUPPORTIVE family and friends waiting for the 3 of us back home.

These are the most courageous and unselfish girls I have ever met. They are giving us the most amazing gift, a baby to love. We feel honored that our son came from such a loving place. It is very reassuring to know that our son and all the other FANA children that come from Hogar are loved from the beginning. The girls made it very clear that they only want what is best for their unborn child. Although I did not meet Shawn’s birth mother, I did meet girls that were in her situation. To me this visit completed our process. The discussions turned into us thanking them for being so brave and helping us to make our dreams come true. The girls too thanked us and said that they would feel lucky to have their child raised by people like us. Some of the girls shed tears and thanked us too. I too shed some tears and thanked them for what they do. We ended our visit with hugs and kisses for each other. It was a very memorable experience.

We will write more later on the rest of our day. Take care. We miss everyone!!

Hello Everyone,

We are sorry we have not updated you all since Sunday. Sunday we went to the La Fontana. It was like an open air little shopping place. There was a woman singing and we ordered a few things with Shawn's name on it for his room. We then went to the shopping mall. It was VERY big. Shawn found a casino in the mall. We then returned home and went to Betty and Rafa's house for a drink and then out to dinner. We went out to a nice Italian restaurant for dinner, Piccolo Cafe. The food was very good. We arrived home around 10:30. Shawn had a good night sleep as he slept from 11:00 until 6:00ish.

Monday we stayed in all day. We woke up at 6:00 with Shawn and fed him. We then layed Shawn back down to sleep and the whole Blair family slept until 10:00. Shawn ate again and we surfaced downstairs about 11:30. We enjoyed the day at home. We found out that we are in court 4. They say that this is an average court. The girls made us empanadas about 5 (VERY GOOD!!!) and then we ate a Colombian soup at 6:00. It was very good. At about 6:30, Shawn began to cry-something we have never really heard him do. We changed him and fed him but we think he had gas. We took him up to our room at 8:00. He was being very fussy and he fell asleep around 10:45. He woke up at 1:00 and only drank an ounce. Then we finally got him back to sleep around 2:00ish.

We woke up this morning (Tuesday)at 6:00 and he drank 4.5 ounces. He seems to be doing better. We then went for our FANA tour. What an amazing place. The babies were beautiful and the facility’s are fantastic. We spoke to Elizabeth, the nurse at FANA and we told her about how Shawn was feeling. We are taking him there tomorrow just for a check up.

Shawn and Marcello went to the butcher's with Betty. We are having an old fashioned cook out tonight. The boys just walked and they bought 6 steaks, a pound of hamburger and 8 hot dogs- a total of 30,000 pesos. (that equals $10.00 American).

We are going to the Hogar at 1:30 today. We will post more later.

Thank you to everyone who has sent us Emails and good wishes. We are enjoying our stay and we are doing fine. We miss everyone VERY much. Take care and we will talk to you all soon!

Hello again from Betty's place in wonderful Bogota. The weather has been great, everyday sunny and in the mid 70's. The sun is very intense here-yesterday(Wednesday) Big Shawn got a major sunburn on his face (imagine that..)ouch!!! We also had our bienastar interview yesterday and everything went very well. We should hear on Monday what court we are in-we are hoping that we pull a fast court.

Today (Thursday), Denise, Mara and Betty went to Norbertos. It was a very nice place and we were all pampered. While the girls were there, Shawn and Marchello went to Jacques (a little French cafe) where they enjoyed pastries and coffee. We then sat down at Betty's for an enjoyable dinner. The people here at Betty's place are the most helpful, wonderful people and the food is great.

Shawn is an amazing baby. His first night with us was a good night for him. Shawn slept from 9:30pm-4:00am and then from 4:30am-8:00am. Even though he slept good, Shawn and I were up keeping one eye open. Last night he slept from 9:45pm until 6:30 am. Again, Shawn & I still had the one eye open thing. Everyone knows how I love my sleep but this parenting thing is MUCH better then any sleep!

For everyone who is still waiting to come to Bogota, these will be the most rememerable days of your lives. We miss everyone and we are still trying to figure out this camera thing! Take care and we will write more tomorrow.

Hello everyone. Today we were given the most unbelievable gift- SHAWN ANTHONY BLAIR was presented to us. It was a very emotional day for us both. He is a precious little angel and words cannot describe how it felt to have him placed in our arms. FANA is an amazing place.

We came back to Betty's and took him upstairs right away. We looked at every part of him. We still can't belive that he is ours. We gave him his first feeding and he was fine. He doesn't seem to want to go to sleep. Betty's place is great. She is making sure we do everything right and the help is much appreciated.

We just found out (this very minute from Dr. Polo) that our Bienstar is tomorrow at 3:30.

We apologize that we did not update the pictures, we are having trouble uploading them. We are seeking assistance from anyone that can help. We have an HP320 digital camera. Please Email us @Denise0420@yahoo.com directly as the the link below is not working.

We miss everyone very much. Hugs & kisses from The Blairs (ALL 3 of us) to our frinds and family!!!

Tomorrow we will receive our little angel. We just wanted to say thank you to all of our friends and family for everything you have done for us to help us get here. All of you will never know how important each of you has been.

We will write more tomorrow. We are going to sleep now.

Our buddy couple, Teresa Barth and Peter Pasnik along with their children Elizabeth and Matthew, gave us this unbelievable news at 11:00 PM. We want to thank them for making the announcement so special. Our son was born on December 28, 2002. We will call FANA on Monday for an update on our son!!! (That sounds SO nice to say-our son!)
