I just wanted to send best wishes and comment that Matthew is so beautiful. I was adopted from FANA to a family in NY 29 years ago and am so thankful that I was adopted into a loving family. My parents are the best and I thank God everyday for them. This year I hope to visit Colombia and see the FANA adoption agency. I wish your family the best and happy life

Hi David,Angela and Matthew!!!

Thanks for sharing the adorable photos of Matthew!! He looks great!!! I can't believe how dark his hair got?? He is so cute!! Domenic is doing great as well!! He has brought so much love and joy to both our families. They are all just nuts over him!!! I know what you mean about being home with Matthew, I feel the same about being home with Domenic. I just love being with him 24/7. He is such a happy baby with a wonderful personality and a love for people and everything around him!! I can't believe how fast time is going. Domenic will be 6 months old on Aug 4th. He has just started to eat cereal this past week and is really trying to talk. I hear those same shreeches and yells. I really think he is just figuring out that he can make all those noises and people think it is cute. Oh, and there is always the raspberries that he blows along with the screeching!! He really makes us laugh. He is rolling over from his stomach to his back, but hasn't done the back to the stomach yet. He is getting really close though. He is sitting up on his own, but not for a long period of time without tumbling over to one side or the other. He is sleeping and eating great!! We pretty much take him everywhere and he is fine as long as he is fed and in the middle of all the action!! I am glad to hear all is well with all of you. We miss you and hope to see you soon!!!

Take care!!

Congratulations!
What a wonderful story you have captured and so kindly shared. A friend of mine had just sent me the website for FANA and I sent the FANA contact an email inquiring about a Canadian affiliate.

I was cautious and not completely trusting of the "too good to be true" scenario and wished that I could find a Canadian family that actually went through the adoption experience. I navigated my way through the site and randomly picked your story, only to find that you were a Canadian from Toronto bringing your precious son home on my sister's birthday! Serendipidty at its finest!

If you can be candid, how was the whole process? Bureaucratic, frustrating, easy, frightening?

Your insight would be greatly appreciated. To you and your wonderful family, good health, happiness and big dreams.

Kind regards,
Paula

Hi Angie & David,

I'm so glad to hear that Matthew is on the mend -- he sounds like a real trouper for such a little guy. Isn't it tough trying to get medicine down a little throat -- I must say he looks bright-eyed and bushy tailed in his photos! I hope you've been able to get your paperwork sorted out -- it's unbelievable how much documentation you've had to deal with. It's Easter weekend here, it's lovely outside, and the forecast is for a lovely, sunny weekend. Hallelujah! -- a welcome relief after two weeks of grey, cold weather. Do you have a firm date yet for when you're coming home?

Dear Angela and David,

Thank you for helping deliver our Easter treat. We hope that Matthew is feeling better. The great thing about babies is that they are very resilient and he is receiving very good care from everyone there. However the best medicine he is receiving is the TLC from his mommy and daddy.

Take care and thanks again.

Hi parents of Matthew,
That's one of the things about having a baby -- all of sudden you're relegated to your proper place -- the parents of the new star of the show! I'm so glad your interview went well - it's hard to believe all of the formalities you've had to go through. But it sounds like that was an important hurdle - a big step closer to bringing Matthew home.
I'm sorry to hear that he's still fighting a cold. You feel so helpless when they're ill -- and it's not like you can explain to them - hey, just a few days and you'll feel better. Never mind - I'm sure he'll soon shake it entirely. The weather has been cold, grey and miserable here - I'm pea green with jealousy -- thinking of you strolling around Bogota in the warm sunshine. You've timed it perfectly -- by the time you come home the good weather will be here!
Sarah, Andrew and Terry all say hi!

Done deal. The "You talkin' to me?" comment clinched it and a young Robert De Niro has now been inked to play David in the feature film version on the Reas in Bogota. Loved your parasite story - I think Betty has a side business on fixing ailing visitors to Colombia, as she did the same for me. Give her a great big hug for us - and Matthew too. Sounds like you are having a great time settling in to familyhood. Paul Martin hiked the highest marginal tax rate to 72% since you've been gone so there's no need to hurry back. :-)

I’m so glad for you! Matthew seems like a little gem. I enjoyed reading your adventures. From the sounds of things, you are making out just fine. Thank you so much for calling from Columbia - I was thrilled to hear from you and could not have been happier for both of you! You both deserve little Matthew and I know he certainly deserves loving parents such as yourselves. You make a wonderful family! I would however like to meet Matthew in person – seems there’s a long list! Nonetheless, I’ll wait my turn but would love to hear from you when you are settled and up for company.

Again, nothing but the best to the three of you as you move into this exciting journey.

You both look like naturals and we would be honoured to visit you all, at some time after you babymoon - took us about 3 months.... our girls are now 2... hard to believe - ups and downs and more joy than one can imagine - some vulnerabilities too but the best thing we have done soley and jointly for sure...
Happy , happy for you all. Call if you get baby fever.

Love, Ingrid and family.

Hi Angie and David,
Congratulations!
Glad to hear that everything is going smoothly - it seems to be a very sympathetically run set-up, to break you in gently as new parents.
David's changing diapers brought back memories for me ..... and the sleepless nights ......the windy smiles!..... and splashing at bathtime..... and now she's 21.
Mum is excited but frustrated that she cannot visit the website yet. I've told Clare to check it out and she sends her congratulations.
Try to get some sleep!
We're very happy for you both.
Love from John and Lorna.

Congratulations Angela and David. You have an absolutely gorgeous baby! He is so beautiful and I had a lump in my throat when I saw his picture. Mathew looks so happy and relaxed and will no doubt stay that way while you two struggle with no sleep, worry about the slightest sneeze and trawl through the primary school league tables..... We are really, really happy for you all and look forward to reading the next installments of your baby journal. I can see a novel coming on, Angela, if you have time...! Love, Penny and Nick.

Hi proud parents,

Ah - the 4:00 a.m. feeding - the joys of parenthood! Sleep deprivation is the hardest part of the first few months. But it does get better so hang in there. Angie, I was so mad that I missed your call, it would have been so nice to have spoken to you in person. But you are doing an incredible job with your great journal entries - they're so much fun to read, and as someone else said -- they'll be fabulous for Matthew to have as a memento in the future. Isn't bath time fun - I was terrified of bathing Sarah when I first had her. They look so tiny and cold and you feel so hamhanded! But you are incredibly lucky to have so many wonderful people around to help you. I'm really looking forward to more pictures of you -- keep posting them. By the way Angie - your masseur sounds amazing -- didn't you have a chronic back condition that needs daily attention....?
Have fun guys!
Love Carole

Dave:

I really know what a challenge it can be to put the effort into keeping up your log entries while Betty runs you ragged so I feel I have to let you know that Diane and I are REALLY enjoying your entries. They are hilarious! Better yet, your son will treasure them not-so-many years from now.

Please give Betty a smootch from the Kedges, especially from Nick. Nick would also like you to say Hi to the maids for him. They will remember him, for sure...

Kind Regards,
Greg Kedge

Okay, love the writing, love the pics. Can a feature film be in the works? Emma Thompson will play Angela. We have casting directors working on David. Matthew will star as himself because there can be no replacements. We will be thinking of you guys Saturday night and raise a glass of red wine to you at the annual membership meeting with Jodie and Mike and Marcel and Micheline. Continue to enjoy. Have you had the world's best chocolate shake at El Corral yet?

Hi Angela and David!
You sound like you are having quite the adventure! Your entries are quite vivid and I can almost hear the sounds of cars and music from the streets, see the guest house and the people you are encountering there. But of course the biggest adventure is embarking on life as a parent! I'm so glad that it is starting off so joyously. I can hardly imagine how it would feel to suddenly have a child in your life ... but of course you have been anticipating this for a while and I'm sure are mentally prepared. I loved seeing your photos. Matthew looks like a sweetie!

Hi Angela, David and a big welcome to Matthew! Just read your journal entries and am smiling ear to ear at the love and joy that is so evidently jumping off the pages for Matthew. Glad to hear that he is a good sleeper! You two must also be getting spoilt a bit considering you are the only family there. It will also be fun when other families
start to arrive so that the babies can all bounce together.
Enjoy Bogota, Cartegena and the wonderful South American hospitality. Please say hello to Betty, Okenis and the amazing ladies at FANA. Lots of hugs and kisses to Matthew and look forward to more updates and of course the photos. Enjoy your stay.

P.S. Have Betty make an appointment for you at Norberto's for the full salon experience. Sample the wonderful empanadas from some of the take out places in the area.
There is also a wonderful bar/restaurant that Betty took us to during the Easter weekend which was a great afternoon with the procession going thru the restaurant including Mary riding on a small donkey and everyone cheering for Juan Montoya racing on the T.V. over the bar.

Hang in there things do get easier. There will come that point soon where you so not even need a monitor to hear him. Of course you also go through the phase of checking to make sure he is still breathing when he is quiet. There is no better gift than parenthood. Through god and FANA we have been blessed.

Enjoy every moment in Bogota and all of the wonderful care you get from Betty.
