I'm Isabel's mom. Isabel is 5 and in treatment for the same kind of leukemia that Noelle *had*. I can't wait until she is off treatment just like Noelle. We both loved to look at your photos. Thank you for keeping such a wonderful journal, it really give a lot of hope to us who are still in the trenches. I had to go back and read about Noelle's Delayed Intensification phase, as that is where we are now. I was like, "oh okay, good!" because it sounds so similar!
Noelle is a lovely little girl. I can't wait until my daughter is also 7 years old!

Early in treatment Megan had to remove her's for fear of infection since they were newly pierced and it was a big deal to have them re-pierced. Now she has 2 holes and contacts! I too love the fact that Noelle combined port removal with ear piercing. I can't wait to see a picture. But how will I feel if Fergus wants to do the same?! I just realized how close in age Noelle and Fergus are; he turned seven on the 22nd of January. His cousin Katie was right there with Noelle--she also turned seven on December 31st.

I've been wondering how long Fergus will need to keep his port after treatment ends in June. For some reason, I thought monthly bloods could be finger sticks, and since Fergus far prefers those to port accesses, I was all for early removal. We'll have to rethink that if arm draws are the answer though! Those still have traumatic diagnosis time associations for all of us.

Keep enjoying these OT months--it's nice to see them pass by.

Hope those two very important surgeries went well. A.J.'s port came out on Wednesday. She was pretty sore yesterday but is back in school today. A black lab is a wonderful choice! Woody, (named after Woody in Toy Story,) is 8 years old and a great family pet....sometimes he comes to work with me!

Ali had a mystery rash when she finished treatment...I think steroid withdrawal was what we figured....her legs did not hurt but her back did...and still does sometimes...but she is feeling and looking good!

We hope you come up with something FUN for your wish! Ali wanted a car...but they don't do cars...so we did Hawaii on a cruise ship!

Hi Noelle! I was so happy to read that there is no evidence of AVN! We just returned from Tahoe and I was without a computer. On our ride we met some TNT riders from New Jersey...Lex and I told them that your name was on our chain and we were riding a mile for Noelle from New Jersey! I just love the picture of Noelle on the front of her page. It's hard to believe such an angelic little face could push her father out of his own bed and into the guest room, lol. I love it that she refers to it as "sleeping arrangements." She's obviously got a great vocabulary. I cringe at the thought of what would happen if we put Noelle and Ana Cristina in a room together. When I told her someone signed her guestbook wanting to know if she got ice cream through room service, she rolled her eyes (like you're suppose to already know this) saying "but I am lactose intolerant." About 15 seconds later her eyebrows went up and she asked if we could get some cake instead, lol. Maybe when madamoiselle gets up from her nap.

I just wanted to pass on good thoughts and prayers for Noelle's upcoming MRI. I hope it's a very smooth procedure and the results are perfect.

It sounds like Noelle is in for "the works" treatment tomorrow. I hope her ANC is high enough... as much I as I know you don't want her to have to go through all that treatment, it's that much closer to her being finished. congrats on the one year marker. my one year is coming up on april 5th--and i am having a bday-one year marker celebration--it is quite hard i agree to believe we were sticken with this 'c' bug one year ago..to see the things we have had to stumble across...to me--i have had people who have run away--but then you meet soo many other caring and compassionate people-and nurses...and it almost is as if i can replace them..with the people that ran--its hard--and hard to think that my one year marker is coming up--i have stumbled a little the past few months--but i know that i am doing better than my doctors thought i would...

I am so sorry that you have to be in the icky hospital! Ok, mom and dad, call someone up and have them bring this to Noelle please, I just cant make it to the east side right now.
Kool Klay or yummy smelling pliable play dough
2 1/2 cups of flour
1/2 cup salt
2 packages unsweetened drink mix (koolaid)
3 T Oil/baby oil
2 cups boiling water

Mix the dry ingredients. Add oil and water. Stir quickly mixing well. When the clay cools, knead it until it's soft and pliable. Store in a ziplock bag.

Keegan got this while in the hospital and had a blast with it!

Alright I know I have not been around lately, I have to know... did Noelle really go as a flamenco dancer for Halloween? That's a relatively "new" holiday for Spain and everyone here wants to dress in really ghoulish costumes so we don't get to see as much of the cute stuff.

I'm so glad to hear that Noelle's in the continuation phase. I see you've found out the maintenance "pulses" aren't as bad as those long stretches of them during the intense phases. It sounds like they're still no real picnic though. We've been lucky with Maria in that she only wants to eat more (read, the appetite of a defensive line!) She too gets VERY particular about her cravings. I really should have written them down all these months... The most recent craving has been angel hair pasta (no other kind will do) with olive oil and garlic. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Our children are odd little creatures indeed, lol.

Anyway, thanks so much for checking on Maria. I hope you all are well. Give Noelle a kiss from Maria.

So...Were you laughing about the snow or that the Broncos got beaten by the Raiders? It's so cold here and Keegan is mad at me because I won't let him out to play in the snow. This is one of those rare times that the snow didn't melt in one day! (urhg!) He wants to make another snowman. Maybe I'll let him do it, who knows.

Hi Noelle!
I just noticed that you live on "Madison"! Ha!Ha! That is my name!
And I'm hoping that you get to start the LTM in a few weeks! I had to wait weeks and weeks after my DI because it was just TERRIBLE for me! I'm glad I just had the One DI! I had tons of transfusions and even had to go into the hospital too! (even tho my clinic doesn't transfuse unless you go under 10 for platelets and 7 for red blood---I got 23 of them so far!)
Your dad also teld me that you are getting the very "Mean Christine" medicine in your port! I go on the 18th (Thursday) for mine! It is really terrible stuff, but it kills that worser cancer, so we have to have it.
At least I don't get the high fevers from it anymore!
Boy! When I first started, I would get the badly fevers to go along with all the other problems that she gave to me!

So sorry that you had such a bad day! I had lots of them. And I did not like getting the peg shots either. I had to get two at one time, in both of my legs and I just screamed at the top of my lungs. My mom said that it hurt her as much as it hurt me (how could that be?) Anyway, this is my first time to your site and I just wanted to say that you are pretty cute (for a girl that is, hey I am a 5 year old boy, but still have good taste) We will be thinking of you and your family and hoping that you make it through DI fast. I had two DI's because I was a ser, I am so glad that you only have one!

I can tell you what a difference a year makes. Last Halloween Michael went to 5 houses, had a seizure and came home to sleep at 7PM.He hasn't had a seizure in 3 months since his tumor was removed. Last night he went out for 3 hours, came home ate candy and slept at a friends house. God and the doctors do amazing things. Just wait next year your hair will be back and you'll exhaust your parents with all of your trick or treating. Have a peaceful week.

I'm so happy to hear that you are off the steroids, and getting back to your old self. Michael had his head shaved in June before his surgery, and he only let the surgeon shave one half of his head. He had long bangs on one side and nothing on the other. Everywhere we went people stared at him. He wore a baseball hat everywhere we went for the first 3 months. When his doctor cleared him to play basketball, his first game he went up to the referee and said I am playing in this "red" hat. The referee questioned him, and Michael took it off and he said absolutely you can wear your hat. Michael's hair has all grown back and last week he had his first haircut. We now know how short he can go before the scar shows.

HI Noelle!! Miss Ali from Cali's Mom, Marey, sent me over to visit. My daughter, Cammie, has been taking steroids for the past 23 days, I think...I've lost count ...it's a good thing that those wonderful doctor's give me a calendar so I know what day it is! (All I know is, we have a few more days to go and I'm hoping that my Good Cammie comes back!!) She has, NOT ONCE, asked me to make a cake. Ya' know...I wanted cake...but instead, it was twenty-four hour a day Spaghetti and BBQ Rib Fest at our house! I'm going to speak to her and tell her that you suggested baking cakes, if you don't mind...we'll see...maybe I'll get a cake out of this deal. Wish me luck! :-)

Hang in there... you're almost done with tbe "big eat and scream" (I love that phrase!). I just wanted to stop by to see how miss Noelle was doing and thank you for your offer. I have been pretty remiss about checking my email and Maria's page over the past few weeks.. and you know how it is on ALL-kids.. miss 3 days and your box is FULL to capacity! Your sister has probably come and gone through Madrid by now, and I hope she had a great visit. There wasn't anything Maria needed or wanted from New York, but your offer was so kind. She was on steroids that week and I think her 2 biggest desires in the world were cheese and peanut butter. Fortunately David had family in the US so they keep us well stocked on Peanut Butter -- which isn't so easy to find here. Cheese we can find everywhere and Maria can certainly go through it when she's on steroids. Don't you just love those little pills. ;o)

Hey Guys! Thank you so much for signing Madie's "Guess Book"! That was so sweet!
I'm sending lots of hugs and prayers for the next round of chemo treatment plan. I remember all too well how it made me feel, and of course, how it affected Madie!
Just know that you will get through it!
I would tell people that it was like the movie Shrek, the scene where they are crossing the bridge to get to the castle. I can hear Dr.B saying "Don't look down!" And when Madie would have zero counts, need blood, platelets or be in the hospital, I would holler out "I'm Looking Down!", especially trying to cross a rickety old bridge over a boiling lake of 'leukemia' lava!
:-)
Just keep telling yourself, "Don't Look Down"! and you will be on the other side of the bridge really, really fast!

Greetings from España. I hope all is well with Noelle. I remember Maria being in the interim maintenance phases. They were a nice break (relatively speaking) from the intense chemo, but not exactly the easy street I envisioned. Noelle is a strong little girl though and I know she'll make it through all this with a smile. It is so difficult to watch our children go through this knowing that we cannot take away the pain. I know I would have endured double of every needle, every bit of nausea, every ache and pain that Maria has had from chemo if I could. I know you feel the same way. The good news is though that our kids are amazingly tough and resilient... they seem to thrive almost no matter what. Kiss your little sweetheart for me and tell her she has a friend in Spain who thinks she's just great!

What a great photo of Noelle! She looks like a pixie. :) Thank you so much for signing Maria's guestbook and checking on her progress. We'll be keeping up with your darling Noelle. Our girls are on the same protocol. Though they're on different arms, the treatment is identical for the first 7 months with the exception of Maria getting radiation. I remember well our time during consolidation. It's a rough phase, but you will come through it in tact. I think the serenity prayer is one of the most appropriate for life in general, and especially what we go through with our kids. I've had to say it to myself MANY times over the past year and a half.

I am praying for Noelle and for her parents, that the Lord will give you all strength and peace in this storm. My grand daughter was diagnosed with medulla blastoma at 6 yrs. old, and is now 8, and cancer free! It is an ordeal that nobody thinks they could handle, but she went through it like a trooper. When your blood is better could we meet at the park and have a picnic. Moms have to watch us at the park so we don't fall down and get hurt. I want you to know about the catepillars at my school. They've gotten really big and they're sticky and they spit out webs like spiderman. They're really cool. Did you know they are going to turn into butterflies? Noelle is absolutely adorable. It's definitely a long journey for these kids and their parents. I always thought I was a fairly stable mom until our son, Lucas was diagnosed this past January.
