I wanted to thank you for your wonderful biography of Jake included with the American Red Cross reminder letters.

I am one year into being a regular blood donor and happy to help out in a much needed way. I was recently asked to donate platelets and I said yes. The appointment is coming up next week and I was going to call and cancel because I had gotten too busy, blah, blah. Then that day in the mail I get a reminder letter from Red Cross with the most lovely letter about Jake and the vital importance of donating platelets. The letter so moved me, and needless to say I certainly kept my pending appointment.

Just wanted you to know the letter made a difference...

Hello Kellie and the rest of the Beresh's. I am so glad to read that everything is going so well for you guys! That is just wonderful news, no news! :) We'll be saying a prayer for Jake's scans, but I am sure there will be nothing to report there either, but good news! Blake is still doing wonderful, he is so excited to finish his chemo in less that 2 weeks! I just can't believe we are this close after 39 months! We are all ready to be done. We just thank God everyday for Children's and the doctors and of course those wonderful nurses at the Hem/Onc clinic! This will be the best summer we've had in a really, really long time!

Hi Kellie, I was flabbergasted the other evening when a young man came to my door to show me his method of doing countertops and in the conversation, I asked him if he knew the Bereshs in Omaha, and he said, "I live right next door to them." I told him I had been following Jake's progress and keeping him in my prayers each day. He then told me about his little girl, Tanner. She is a really tough little girl and I pray for her too. My Grandson, Tyler is a little over 2 years past chemo for leukemia, and so far so good, he is in remission. I pray every night that he will stay as well as he is now. After 4 years of chemo, relapse and chemo and radiation again, we are ready for some remission and I bet you and Steve are too. I went to a Coop meeting the other evening and who should I meet there but your Dad. I saved him a chair and we ate dinner together and had a good visit. I enjoy him so much and miss your Grandma Helen as I called her a couple times a week and talked. He and I laughed about me telling him that I saw him in one of your pictures at Halloween when he was dressed as a ghost. He is a great guy and my favorite cousin...Let me hear from you sometime, as my Mom and his Dad were brother and sister, and we sort of grew up together, but he is younger than me..I wish Jakie the best and am so happy that he made it thru all those scans. He looks real healthy in the pix you have on your website. Take care

Hi Beresh family,

Just wanted to let you know that tonight the girls and I stopped at the grocery store here in Chambers and there were some small flyers advertising an upcoming blood mobile and there was a picture of Jacob on it. The girls sure thought that was pretty neat to see someone they knew! Jacob is famous!!! So glad to see that Jacob had clear scans. I know what a relief that is as well as a worry up until that time. Molly's next appointment is in March. We'll continue to keep you all in our prayers for many, many more years of clear scans.

Hello to you guys, and GREAT NEWS!!!! We have learned today what you have to go through with these scans. Blake had a MRI, an MRA, and a MRV today to see if he possibly has a blood clot in his port. We were down at the MRI machine today at Childrens around 2:30. So glad you have wonderful news. We are hoping ours comes back good tomorrow too, we still don't know what Blake's said. If there is a clot then we'll have to remove the port and go without it for the next 4 months, and we really don't want to do that.

Glad you had such a fun Thanksgiving. I had to laugh when I read the entry because we had a Turkey Breakfast too! Thanksgiving morning, 9 a.m. we were seated at the table having turkey, mashed potatoes and all the regular good stuff. My kids thought it was awesome and we might just make it a tradition!

Hello to the Beresh's! Great news on the scans! Sorry I haven't written sooner, but I did check in just to find out! I totally understand what you mean about a wave of emotion each time they come up. I feel that way every 2 weeks when Blake has his counts checked. Congrats on finishing the basement too, my husband still has a few finishing projects in ours, and it's only taken him 4 years! So be proud of yourself Steve!!! :)

I understand your decision with your foundation, even though you gals did some wonderful stuff, and touched a lot of families, right now is time to spend with yours. There is so much I'd like to do, but I just tell myself, in a few years the kids won't be there for me to spend time with, so that will be the perfect time for my charity work. Right now, all my heart and efforts go towards my favorite little people, Blake and Nay. (I can say that because Matt is so big, he's a "big People") :) Anyway, enjoy all your activities this fall, that sounds like a wonderful time. We are heading back to Omaha on Monday for chemo on Tuesday. Then Blake will only have 2 more trips back to Omaha for chemo!!!!! He will be all done in April!

I am so glad that your boys are all doing so well! We pray everynight for the health of our friends that we have met along the way! Jake is such an inspiration to us, what a neat kid! Take care!!!

Haven't visited for a long time and am so glad that your scans were clear. AWESOME. I did not know that you and Liz had decided to end the In the Arms of Friends foundation but understand the need to concentrate on family. I want you to know how valuable all of the information and the kit was to our family when Ethan was diagnosed almost 1 year ago. Great news that Jake's scans are all fine. He looks terrific in his photo --happy and healthy. I'm sure it was difficult for you to go in during the MRI. I'm sad to learn that someone else went so long, and then relapsed. Jake is a hero to us, and we await our second scan for Hannah in December. I'm glad you can spend time with your family. You've done much to raise funds for cancer research, and you were a cherished friend as you guided us through Hannah's chemo treatments. Hello Beresh family! We will be saying our prayers for "normal scans". Kellie, I agree with what you are saying about never knowing when that Lion may roar again! After next week, Blake is down to 7 months of treatment, and then he's off the chemo. That scares me to death. His treatment is kind of like a security blanket to me. I know I don't want him to stay on it forever, but when he's on it, I feel the cancer won't come back. I have no reason to feel that Blake won't be 100% fine after April, but there is always that fear! So glad you guys are enjoying your time together and good luck with all the sports!!! Take care!

Hello Beresh's! School time for you too! Great to hear the boys like it! Blake went today for the first time. He loved it. He really likes Kindergarten. Kellie, you are so correct in what you said about feeling so blessed that people follow Jake's site. I feel the same way about Blake's. It's great to know that they still follow, even when things are good and dull! Which is the way we like them! Blake has 8 more treatments, then he's done! What a thought! We do take each moment as if we won't get another! Well I am reading your website only to find out that my daughter Taylor, who also has Ewings Sarcoma is on the Seattle trip too! We are from Tampa, Fl area and Taylor has relapsed Ewings. Hello to our friends up North in the Big "O", it seems like forever since I've signed in-so sorry. I didn't know that Jake was leaving for another round of Super camp, I'm sure he is VERY excited about Camp CoHoLO(what a wonderful place). I'm hoping that Brandon has found something to waste a little time till his Big brother returns and Wow, how about Ben using the potty (I hope he didn't take lessons from his Dad-or I'm sure your lawn will get some watering-just kidding Steve, you are just so easy to pick on). And the one last Wow is I didn't know that Tanner's family was relocating to yet a completely different state?! We wish them luck in there new setting & continue to pray for her as well.

Yay for clear scans!!!! I am overjoyed!!

I was at my birthday dinner last night and was brought a little birthday cake with one candle. As everyone sang happy birthday, I was thinking of the wish I wanted to make and as I blew that candle out, I wished for clear scans.

Just stopped by to thank you for checking in on Joey during his surgery..you are always so nice to leave very wonderful messages..he will be staying in ICU another night for precautionary reasons..gotta get that fever down..Lisa and I would also like to thank you for all of your hard work that you have put forth for Sat in the efforts to raise much needed funds for Cure Search..I can't think of a better cause!!! We have found that there are so many people out there willing to help in the quest to make sure no one has to go through this....everytime we need a pick me up, we read Jake's story..he is truely an inspiration!! Hi Kellie,
My name is Connie & my daughter Summer was diagnosed with ALL in Sep of 2005 at the age of 2 1/2. Those first few days in the hospital are such a blur to us. We were overwhelmed with so much information. My child has cancer. I still can't believe it.
I remember one day a volunteer came in with an armful of balloons. He said a parent was in the clinic & learned that there were some new kids who were diagnosed & she wanted to send something to brighten their day. The balloon was signed In The Arms Of Friends. I hadn't seen my daughter smile in days & she got the biggest smile on her face when she picked her balloon. So much has happened since that day & I have never gotten a chance to say thank you. It is amazing what such a small gesture can do for someone. We will never forget that balloon. Summer is still undergoing chemo & will be for another year & a half. But we fully expect to reach remission.
It's good to know your son is doing so well.
I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts for ALL that In The Arms of Friends has done & continues to do. See you at the walk June 3.

Haven't had the chance to check in for awhile..glad to hear everything is well with you..sounds like 'Soccer Mom and Dad' are busy with the shuttle service!! But what a wonderful thing it is..you have all been through so much, and now you are doing normal things as a family..Jake is one tough kid.. and with all you are doing with the walk,and carting kids around, when do you eat and sleep?!! Joey will of course be in the hospital (hopefully recovering from surgery to remove all of his tumor) so he will not be there at the walk..I am going to try my best to get the word out and stop by myself..it is a wonderful thing..and like you said, it is hard to believe that in 20 years, there hasn't been anything new for pediatric cancer..we can clone animals, put people into space, and rebuild cites after disasters...but we can't cure a person from cancer..this has to become something that becomes a number one priority..thanks for doing yourpart to make sure that a step is taken in the right direction....have a great weekend!!

It is definately no fun to have that stomach flu..but with all you have been through and overcome, this will seem like a piece of cake!!! That is a great pic of you with Chris Kelsay..he was one of my favorite players when he went to NU!!!Joey was looking forward to the Walk but now Joey's surgery is May 31st, so the Walk seems out of reach..maybe I can get some friends to do it..what a great cause and great event..I will put info on Joey's website to help promote it!! We would all like to go swimming, but with us just getting out of here Fri, pretty unlikely that will happen too..timing just isn't right for Joey..have a good day, get over that flu bug,and enjoy being a wonderful young man!

I knew that Jake had problems based on what you wrote about him playing basketball, but I had no idea it was that bad at the end of treatment. I can't remember which chemo's Dr. G was going to lower for Hannah, but I am certain that vincrisine wasn't one of them. I love chemo/I hate chemo! It's such a catch 22. We do what we have to! Wow, great picture of you, Brandon and Chris Kelsay! It sounds like you had a great day with him and his family. Boy, I hope all those "bugs" are out of your house and away from your family! I think there is SOMETHING going around out there! I'm a speech therapist and I work with developmentally disabled adults and for about 3 or 4 weeks now, there have been lots of facilities that I visit where there have been LOTS of sick people--clients and staff alike! A couple of weeks ago, I walked into a facility and one of the staff there was nice enough to tell me, as soon as I walked in the door, "If you don't have to be here, you need to leave! We are all sick!" So I did just that and left! I've got 3 kiddoes at home and I don't want to bring anything home with me! Anyway, I'm glad that you are all feeling better! It sounds like your baby brother is one tough cookie, to have stayed healthy! Well, I guess he should be a tough cookie because you are too! I'm keeping you in my prayers!

We had fun taking the dogs with us when we went sledding. But we found out - never let your beagle pull the sled up the hill because when she realizes you don't have her leash - she's goonne.... luckily the sled went one way around the tree as she was going the other way and she stopped and we were able to catch her again.

Yippee! I am very glad that your scans were good and that you got there and back home safely. This snow didn't really start piling up in Lincoln until this afternoon. LPS kids are on spring break this week, so, Ben J. has had two days of playing/working in the snow. (I think he may have liked skiing better than Lauren!) Jake and family, we will be thinking of you all on Monday. It is a great thing to honor our soldiers, I am sure they are proud of Jake. Ben and his two neighborhood friends had life jackets (flap jackets), bike helmets (Army helmets) and nerf and empty (almost the most amazing part of the story) water guns out fighting a war in our front yard earlier in the week. As they were laying on the lawn waiting for the enemy to come over the hill, I worried that my neighbor would pull out of her garage and be scared. Boys love dirt, Ben has a patch in our yard as well, it provides hours of fun. Stay strong and think positive, it certainly has taken us along way this year.

What a neat story about Jake and his GI Joe. Kids internalize so much of our world. He seems like a pretty sensitive kiddo! We are excited about the possibility of snow, too! We LOVE to watch a good snow storm, followed by lots and lots and lots of sledding, followed by a good dose of hot chocolate! Good for what ails ya! Kellie-Wow, I should have never come over to your site on my lunch break.....the tears are rolling & I'm a mess...for several reasons!!! Happy tears for Anisa & the 4 kids headed up North, tears for the pictures you posted of them all at the airport together, thinking of course about Haley & how much a trip like this would mean to her and your comments about this trip being exciting esp. for those kids still in treatment. I see both sides of that statement(there are kids who go through treatment who do not get to experience trips/visits with Celebs/go anywhere for just 1 day) and I feel very sad for them all, but the other side to that is kids like JAKE-who have fought so hard(still fight & deal with it each day), have taught so many others how to really live their life & is TRULY a HERO to so many. Jake deserves this trip & I know he will truly have such a great time, I'm just worried about how you will update, because I'm not sure how much space they allow us to type:) hee...hee....

As well, I wish they had more for the siblings, because you are so true-they have been so supportive & understanding throughout this whole ordeal....it is unfair anyway you look at it. We pray for the safe return of the gang up North, for Brandon's Fun & for Big Ben to enjoy his magical moments as well.

P.S. the story about Brandon not being able to find Jake-WOW....he really has his brothers back huh.
