Hey all
Hunting season is upon us once again. So much fun to hear the stories again. Lucas continues to remove and haul cars from his dad's farm to his own place near embden. Cameron is a senior this year, he was named the first Student of the month and is looking for the "right" college program and KeriAnn is a Freshman at GCC in Cooperstown.

Friday, October 10, 2008 8:30 AM CDT

It amazes me that so many people keep checking up on us. Thank you all! We have passed yet another anniversary.Wow! There are so many things that happen that I want to share with Keegan alas it is with good intentions and a heavy heart. Missing you immensly even after two years. Love you Keegs. Mom

School in Cooperstown starts on Monday -- college kids are on their way back to school -- Keri ran in her first cross country meet today and ran faster than those in last place -- Cameron is a senior this year -- Keegan's classmates were over for a "Wild Game Feed" a couple of weeks ago -- we had a great time. Lisa
For my faithful viewers I am so sorry for the JUNK in the guest book I am unaware how to get rid of it -- if anyone has any ideas I'd like to hear them. NEVER MIND -- I FIGURED IT OUT. NO MORE JUNK!

It was kind of weird not ordering carnations for Keegan to give all of his girls this year. Funny what little things a person misses. It's like you think about him constantly and yet again not at all. Weird. I really miss have those unimportant conversations about nothing....You know what I mean Keegs. Love you always, Mom

Good Morning.
Today is Happy 23rd Birthday to Lucas! We love you Lucas.
Went out to the cemetary the other day to take some fall flowers out. Thank you to the great and awesome friend who felt a deer shed would be the perfect "foot stone" you are AWESOME!

Opening deer season this weekend and so begins Keegn's favorite time of year. May you get that Tirty Poiinter up there Keegan. We love you! Mom

It's been over a year now -- as each new hunting season rolls around You get missed more and more. We now have all five animal mounts hanging in the living room or in the hall. Most people have a "coffee table book" as conversatin starters, not your mom boy; she's got four different animal heads hanging near her coffee table! LOL
You will forever be missed. Love Mom

What a nice banquet and tribute to Keegan! Lucas and I attended a banquet put on for hunters by Safari Clubs International -- Lake Superior Chapter. Keegan was the guest of honor.

Anyway, I am thinking about putting together some thoughts on our experiences from the last three years. If anyone has a good "Keegan story" please email me at ott5@invisimax.com

What do you think of the title "G'Ott Courage"?

Love and Hugs. Lisa

Wow! Less than 50 days until graduation! It is amazing. I want to steer you great folks to the website that a few of Keegan's senior photos appear on. They were taken the end of May and beginning of June, what a difference in him. Have a blessed Easter All!

Have been really lax on updating -- Keri and I have been gone nearly every weekend with speech and when I am home am so tired can't even see.
My laptop crashed a couple of weeks ago and am lost. Will try to be better about updating.

Happy Birthday Dad!
Two weeks past the birthday of our Lord. I hope you all had happy and safe holiday. We had a relatively quiet holiday. Cameron and Keri and I have started back to school and are trying to get into a routine. I am back taking weekend or occasional calls on the ambulance. Currently I am feeling a bit under the weather apparently I have peritonitis on the left side and fluid in both ears so am pretty miserable. But I do have an appointment with an ENT a Dr Mathison in Fargo on the 15th it sounds like I may have to have tubes, at my age!?? Until next time. Thanks for keeping tabs on us. As always, Lisa

Kind of hard to stop writing here so will probably continue for a while. We each have our difficult evenings and days. Hopefully, time will heal -- a bit. God Bless and thanks for checking on us. Greetings all. Keri and I had our first day back into a routine today. Good to get back. As always it is still the evening and night time that is tough. I imagine that the weeks of waking every 3-4 hours has become a bad habit and that is why I have trouble sleeping.
Congratulations to the Cougar Girls Cross Country Team on their 1st Place REgional Finish. I am very proud!
Until next time. Lisa

I've been asked to include our address here: 305 9th St SE, Cooperstown ND 58425

All of our company is gone now. Cameron has resumed going back to school and Keri and I will return on Monday after the NDEA conference in Bismark this Thursday and Friday. Lucas went with Casey to Tuttle today and will return to work and school tormorrow I believe. Cameron has gone back to work at Pro Source Audio and they are in the midst of their move to a big new building in Hannaford. Lee came and got Mom last night and I am sure she went back to work today. This weekend was a bit overwhelming as there were over 500 in attendance at the Celebration of Keegan's Life on Sunday (a perfect hunting day, too) Nights are the most difficult for me and the kids have their tough times as well. It will be good to get back into a routine (I hope). Thank you to all who have remembered us in thought, word or deed over the last three years, you are all so very much appreciated. God Bless. Lisa

Good evening or maybe just evening. Keegan is not having a good day at all. He's been very restless and not as lucid as he has been in the past. Mom came up today and said there was a very big difference since Friday. He is not wanting to talk or communicate much. I guess that means no powder puff. Keegan says, "Is it Monday already?" He's not up to doing much. He says his back is killing him this evening. I wish I could pick him up and rock him until he is all better. Hopefully the valium the nurse gave him will help him to settle down. Lisa

Sunday, October 8, 2006 10:28 PM CDT

Good evening all. We are ready for a good night sleep. Keegan has been really sleepy all day long. Maybe he didn't sleep as much with mom as nurse all night. He still talks about the powder puff football game and wanting to go. Lee and the football guys are going to stop over and help get him and the easy chair there if he wants to go. Cameron and Keri are choosing to stay home from school to be with Keegan more and more. Lucas and his friends from Fargo come usually twice a week and that has been very helpful for me. God Bless You all. Lisa (61647)

Wednesday, October 4, 2006 7:41 AM CDT

Keegan says he is already having a "better" day. He is very much looking forward to Honor Society Induction later this afternoon so he will spend most of the day resting for that. Looking forward to seeing everyone this afternoon. Love and Hugs, Lisa {59758}

Tuesday, October 3, 2006 7:01 AM CDT

NOTHING NEW TO REPORT REALLY. KEEGAN IS NOT EATING MUCH, ACTUALLY ZERO AND SLEEPING A LOT. HE HAD A RESTLESS DAY YESTERDAY AND WAS UNCOMFORTABLE MOST OF THE DAY. I HAD A MASSAGE THEREAPIST COME IN AND HE SEEMED TO REST BETTER LAST NIGHT. WE HAVE HOSPICE THRU TOMORROW MORNING AND THEN BLUE CROSS WILL RE-EVALUATE. AS ALWAYS, LISA

Meant to write yesterday but has been quite "busy" around here for the past couple of days. We arrived home by transport van about 8pm on Thursday. Keegan rested so that he could attend homecoming activities which he did on Friday. He was so worn out I couldn't even coax him to eat today. God Bless. Lisa 58427

Thursday, September 28, 2006 2:40 AM CDT

Wow!

Breathing through blood clot passage is getting to be quite the ordeal. In the last 24 hours Keegan has had his catheter replaced 4 times and still doesn't drain from clotting. It is so hard to see him so miserable. "Why can't one thing just go right for once." "I've had like 7 catheters and non of them work, 0 for 7 on catheters this sucks." Will get to sleep tomorrow, maybe. God Bless. Lisa and Keegan. 56985

Wednesday, September 27, 2006 5:03 PM CDT

Well, here we are back in Fargo. Keegan was transported this morning by ambulance because the Hospice nurses couldn't seem to get his catheter to work right. Thought the only alternative was surgery, thankfully (or not) they were able to work out the clots through massive irrigation and suction. He is running pretty clear now. The urologist said that either the radiation or the cancer could be causing the problems with the bladder. Hopefully we'll get home tomorrow, Keegan wants to be in the parade on Friday! God Bless! Lisa 56788

Tuesday, September 26, 2006 2:39 PM CDT

Hail All, King Keegan

What an exciting night! I will add the photos to his hunting website. We have a few struggling moments mostly when the catheter is clogged up. Keegan seemed to rest more last night and Lucas is coming home today. Cameron went to school as usual and Keri is taking time off from school at Hope, sometimes she'll go as a visitor here in Cooper and sometimes she'll go to Hope for part of a day.
We're hanging in there. God Bless. Lisa

Lisa called this morning and asked if I would update the site. Keegan was back in the hospital this week. They received some not so good results. Keegan's kidneys are shutting down and his colon is obstructed. Doctors feel he has only a couple weeks now. Keegan appreciates everyone's prayers and support and hopes to be home soon. Will update again as soon as I hear more.
She wanted me to keep the bear hunt site up for those that haven't seen the recent pictures.
Our prayers join all of yours,
Scott and Kathy

Lucas just called and Keegan is sleeping. I probably would be too after bagging a 316 pound black bear and a whitetail buck that scored 175! How exciting and tiring. Cameron had an okay birthday and the boys called him from Wisconsin. Good luck to all the teams playing and running tonight. Don't forget the Horse Play Day on Sunday in Cooperstown. Thanks Steph! GO COUGARS! Cross Country meet in Cooperstown was excellent! All of the Cougar teams did very well -- Varsity Girls and Junior High Boys all placed first out of over 10 teams!

Keegan rode in the lead cart or layed on the ground most of the day then he moved to the couch at home. Seems to be taking more and more morphine yet always is "fine"!

Lucas and Keegan leave Cooperstown tomorrow for Fargo and then on to Wisconsin so Keegan can go on a Bear hunt! What a kid! Will be a long week without Keegs at home.

Cameron turns 16 on Wednesday, and my brother Todd has a birthday on Thursday.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GUYS!

Keri has a home volleyball game on Thursday (in Hope).

Have a great week all! Love Lisa

Keegan's doctor appointment went well on Friday. The doctor is pleasantly pleased with how he has been doing. He is now one of the tri-captains of the cross country team. He went to the first meet at Jamestown last week and was "a coach" for the day. Some days he is able to ride bike, some days run a little and some days neither one. I can see that he is not feeling as perky as he has been. Lucas was home this weekend and they spent quite a bit of time together. He is still working at Super Value warehouse nights and going to school at Moorhead State during the day. Keegan is at the home opener Volleyball game tonight. He is looking forward to both his Bear Hunt and Moose Hunts coming up soon. Keri has been going to volleyball practice and we often don't get home until nearly 7 pm. She has her first game tomorrow night at northern cass. Go Wolverine 7th graders. Cameron is as busy as every just work, work, work. It's a good thing he enjoys what he does. Me I just spend my time trying to get through each day -- it's not good wishing my days away I suppose, I have just been so very tired lately and fighting sinuses or allergies or something. Have a great rest of the week. Lisa and Family 51841

Saturday, August 19, 2006 10:29 AM CDT

The kids have one week of practice under way. Keri started Volleyball at Hope and seems to be enjoying it. Keegan has been to most of the cross country practices and even road bike 5 miles the other day. He is so awesome! The last blood counts he had on Wednesday showed his counts starting to improve. We are so excited about that. School starts for Keegan and Cameron on Wednesday, and Lisa on Wednesday then Keri will start on Thursday in Hope. Have a great last week of summer or first week of school all! Love Lisa

Saturday, August 5, 2006 11:12 AM CDT

It is with many difficult emotions that I make this entry. Keegan had another CT scan tis morning and the results were, well less than, good. It seems that the cancer has moved on deep into the liver and apparently into the bone marrow which is why he is having such difficulty recovering his blood counts. Keegan had a unit of platelets yesterday and will be getting three units of blood today. Keegan has to make some tough decisions today. The doctor recommends that he go home on pain and antinausea meds and hospice until... We are down to weeks instead of months. We hope to be able to move our Valley Fair days up a week probably. Keep on praying and Keegan says he'll keep on fighting. 48006 God Bless! Lisa

IT IS NOW 11:30 ON MONDAY AUGUST 7TH WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF LOADING TO

VALLEY FAIR

AS A FAMILY... YEE HAW THANK YOU EVERY ONE WE'LL WRITE AND POST PHOTOS WHEN WE GET BACK!!! LOVE YOU ALL!!!!

Wednesday, August 2, 2006 9:27 AM CDT

Good Morning --
Sorry for the late update -- we were without Internet for a few days. At the demolition derby in Northwood keegan was able to drive and was in the top three of seven in his heat. He was pretty excited. Unfortunately, he was also very very bruised up and we were in Fargo for a couple of days getting platelets and blood product.

Keegan is scheduled for chemo starting on the 7th. He's usually in the hospital for about 4-5 days then.

A huge thank you to any and all of you who had something to do with the "Valley Fair Vacation"!!!! We are scheduled to go after Keegan has blood products on the 14th or 15th. So we will be leaving Fargo the 16th and be home on Sunday the 20th just in time to start school on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Blessings to one and all. Lisa

Friday, July 21, 2006 10:47 PM CDT

I'd better update this page before I forget again. Just wanted to let you know that Keegan got out of the hospital late Wednesday evening after receiving 2 units of blood and 1 unit of platelets. He seems to be felling pretty good now. Lucas came home early so that the boys could finish working on the Derby Car for Northwood tomorrow. If Keegan is too exhausted to drive then Lucas will. It sounds like a long day. I am glad for Keegan.
Thank you once again for all the calls, letters, phone calls, emails and prayers. They are greatly appreciated. Love Lisa {46639}

Sunday, July 16, 2006 8:33 PM CDT

Keegan is still hospitalized as his white count is only at 0.5 and doc says it has to be over 1.0 before he can go home. He still has to wear a mask indoors and he may take it off outdoors.
We are going to go for a wheelchair ride outside if I can handle the heat. Keegan needs a little fresh air. It went well even though it is hot out. He walked up the "Cancer center Hill".
Our new goal is to be out in time to go to the demolition derby in NOrthwood. Much sooner if possible.
Thank you to our visitors. A special thanks to Auntie Lee for bringing up Keri. Take care and God Bless. Lisa 45900

Tuesday, July 11, 2006 10:41 AM CDT

We have such a great community. Thank you all for the great surprise on Sunday. We all can't wait until Keegan is well enough to go. Keegan and I came by ambulance to Fargo yesterday he hasn't had a bowel movement for over 5 days and has been puking too. His platelets dropped to 11 compared to 53 on Friday.
Early this morning he spiked a temp of about 103 but it's
down now he seems to be resting comfortably at the moment.
He's not real happy with the doctor as he's decided to put
an NG tube in (through the nose) as he as dropped to just
over 200 pounds and is "malnourished" because he's never
hungry. They'll give him laxative first and then nutrition.
Hopefully he'll be feeling better before long. He was really looking forward to basketball team camp in Aberdeen this Thurs Friday and Saturday.
I plan to still get him there for part of camp anyway.

Saturday, July 1, 2006 6:59 PM CDT

Doctor appointment on Thursday turned into an appointment and a scan on Thursday and results on Friday.
Keegan then had a Port inserted on Friday and begins intensive chemotherapy on Sunday, July 2.
Original plan was to
Begin oral chemotherapy after baseline CT scan and eventually use an IV medicine to attack the blood vessels that are feeding the cancer. Perhaps IV chemo followed by surgery to eliminate the visible cancer.
Scan results summarized as follows:
There are multiple small nodules at the left lung base the larges may be 5 mm in diameter.
There is a large right central abdominal mass, extending from beneath the diaphragm to just above the level of the iliac crest (hip bone). It appears to be about 9x10 cm.
Upper port of the mass invades the liver and pancreas and displaces the pancreas. The IVC (The large venous trunk which receives blood from the lower extremities and from the pelvic and abdominal organs. It travels through the abdomen (from the lower extremities) and returns blood to the right atrium of the heart. ) is displaced laterally and infiltrated by the mass. Small satellite masses extend into the gallbladder fossa (a portion of the liver). The mass encases adjacent vascular organ networks. The mass encases the right renal artery and the left renal vein (his kidneys could shut down within 2 weeks). The right kidney is displaced and the liver is infiltrated with the mass. There is a blockage at the junction of the renal pelvis and ureter. The mass displaces and invades the right psoas muscle (An internal muscle arising from the lumbar vertebrae and inserted into the femur. In man there are usually two on each side, and the larger one, or great psoas, forms a part of the iliopsoas).
New plan:
Aggressive chemotherapy, surgery currently not an option as masses are wrapped around too many vital organs. Perhaps following chemo they will be reduced and able to be removed. Keegan will then take chemotherapy orally for the long term.
Keegan still intends to drive in the demolition derby on Saturday July 8 at 5:00 pm in Cooperstown and Lucas says there will be two cars running. Whether or not Keegan does indeed drive is to be determined on Saturday!
43885

July 3 -- 11 pm
Sounds as if Keegan will get discharged sometime tomorrow however we will have to come back here for a shot following chemo. I can give him the shot but the copay would be $654 and some odd sense. Thanks you once again for all of your caring. 44106

Good Morning!
Keegan and I go to see Dr K on Thursday for Keegan's Options meeting. Will write more then.

Thank you for checking on us. Love Lisa

Hi everyone,
I am sure you have all been waiting to hear how Keegan's scans went... unfortunately, not the way we had prayed for ... but God does have a plan whether I agree with it or not.
The pains Keegan has been having in his back are unfortunately tumor related. The report from the radiologist indicates that there are two tumors (about 7 cm each) in the abdomen and the chest is clear.
We don't know where we go from here but will try to keep you up to date. Keep on praying.
In Christ's name, Lisa

Keegan took his ACTs on Saturday and on Sunday headed off to Boy's State in Wahpeton. Keri has been in girl scout camp. Cameron has been working. I am at a school conference.

Thanks for all the checking and the praying -- we love you. Lisa and kids 42

Well, Keegan was up an out of the house at 5:30 this morning for a basketball jamboree at Devil's Lake. The team will be playing four games today. He will be pretty tired by the time they get home. Next week we fly to Rochester for scans and tests. The following week Keegan will be attending Boys State. Pray that all goes well. God's Blessings. Lisa (41967)

Friday, April 28, 2006 10:29 AM CDT

I am so sorry -- once we got home life got even busier!
I just went on the site and see I haven't written for almost six weeks and that there have been over 2000 hits! Wow, thanks for caring! Keegan is doing great although he still tires easily and is still anemic. He's been to Prom and participating in Track Throwing -- he kind of prefers the Javelin this year, must take less energy. It will soon be time for him to take his ACTs and he is not to excited about it. I do know that he has talked about wanting to play basketball for VCSU -- that is exciting I think!

Right now Keegan is in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I talked to him last night and he bagged an "Asian Ram". Haven't had a chance to find out more.

Keri has been busy with basketball. I am just trying to get "back into the swing of things". Whew and less than 4 weeks left of school, hope the house will not look more like a hurricane than a tornado by then.

I will be going to get Mom in Valley City after schooll today, she will be up for the weekend. On Sunday Cameron will be getting confirmed at Zion Lutheran at 11:00 a.m. Please join us for potluck meal and cake following. Cameron keeps busy working at lawn mowing and for Pro Source Audio.

Lucas will be home for confirmation this weekend, he too has been busy working -- two jobs now.

Will try to be more consistent with writing. We don't return to Rochester until June. Until next time. As Always, Lisa (40957)

Saturday, March 11, 2006 8:23 PM CST

TREATMENT IS DONE!!!
We are now home until June -- and a few appointments in between at Fargo. Word is he's all cancer free! Thank you for all for all the wonderful words of wisdom, prayers and thoughts sent our way over the last two years. We know that his fight is far from over but for now it's time to try to get "back to normal" whatever that is these days. God Bless. Lisa (38988)

Wow 38001 hits! Awesome. Thank you to all who check on us regularly, why don't you say hi. Keegan had his first taste of seafood -- today we checked out a platter. Naturally, he likes the lobster best. I really raised kids with rather expensive tastes. 10 more days, I think, in Rochester. Early morning appointments tomorrow. More later. Lisa

Hello all!
Back in Rochester again! This time I got to be the co-pilot! What a different experience to ride "up front". We are chilling out here at the Ronald House.
A big thank you to all the family and friends who worked on and participated or spectated at the "Dodge Ball Tournament" in Hope last weekend. It seemed like a great crowd. THANK YOU ALL!!!!!!
Take care Lisa

Wow it's already Wednesday. Haven't heard much from the boys this week -- hope that means all is well. Lucas and I traded spots finally on Sunday afternoon. We had a wonderful pilot who picked me up and delivered me back to Fargo where he picked up Lucas to take back to Rochester!
Tomorrow night we have parent teacher conferences at my school so will be working until 9:30 pm. Haven't heard from the boys what time they will be back in ND on Friday, I'm sure Keegan will want to head back in time for the boy's game if at all possible, it's parents night. Congratulations to our girls they did make it to the regional tournament and will play again on Monday night. Saturday the students at Hope are having a Dodgeball tournament to raise money for Keegan! How neat! I hope our game is done in Northwood so we can attend that. God Bless and have a great weekend! I forgot how fiesty Keegan could be! It is so frustrating at times...homework time, meal time, bed time... and he says I'm flippin' out!
My glasses broke again today and these old ones just don't do the trick ... had to make an appointment at Walmart can't stand this not seeing anymore.
Cameron has his hands full with Rocky who had to have a bit of minor surgery yesterday, talk about a compassionate kid.
Keri has been active with Chuck and Denise following the girls basketball team around.
We managed to get into the Ronald McDonald House room 304. Appointments are going okay and we're scheduled to fly out at 1:00 on Friday weather providing. Take care and God Bless. Lisa (36411)
Friday 11:20 am
Just heard from our pilot and we are officially ground due to North Dakota weather. They hope we can fly out either later this evening or tomorrow morning. Will try to reach Joel and Pam to see if they are driving back today.

Hi everyone! This is Kristin writing this entry.

What a week! Keegan spent Monday thru Wednesday afternoon in the Pediatric ICU due to his fever Sunday and Monday. (They determined it must have been caused by a virus.) Even with the fever, he was able to go to his radiation treatments, so Mark and I or just Mark have been riding the shuttle with him from the hospital to the clinic for his daily treatments. Monday was an hour long session, but the remainder of the week has been 30 minute sessions. Keegan has shown no side effects.

Keegan does not eat hospital food, so we were allowed to take him out on evening passes and fill him up Subway sandwiches or good home cooked meals thanks to our friends and family here in Rochester (Mark's brother and sister and families live here).

Our son, Tim, had his cardiac ablation (a procedure to fix a rapid heart beat) on Wednesday, and after the successful procedure, was admitted to Pediatric ICU. His room was right next to Keegan's room! Tim was admitted about 1 pm to his room, and Keegan called him on the telephone shortly thereafter!!! And after a few hours, Keegan was up and about, and walked over to see Tim. Keegan likes to sleep in as long as possible each day.

Keegan was discharged to our care on Wednesday late afternoon, went to his radiation treatment, and then came with us to Mark's brother's home.

Thursday we picked Tim up after he was discharged, and then after lunch, Mark, Tim, and Keegan hit the Owatanna Cabela's Store! Imagine that!!! They came back for supper and cake, and then went to "Glory Road," a movie about basketball. They are still at the movie.

Keegan's final radiation treatment for this week is tomorrow at 7 am, and following that treatment, we will be driving back to Cooperstown. Hopefully we will arrive in time to cheer on the Cougar Boys' Basketball Team.

Thanks for all of your prayers. God bless each one.

Pastor Mark, Kristin, Tim, and Keegan

Just a quick note. Keegan left yesterday afternoon with Erickson's. Unfortunately, by the time they arrived at Kristin's parents near St Paul (after having supper with Josh) Keegan had a temp of 101.9. After they called me I called the on-call doc at Rochester and they felt it was very necessary for Keegan to be seen, immediately. Mark, bless his heart volunteered to take Keegan down to the emergency room at St Mary's. I received a call around 3:30 a.m. saying he had just gotten settled. I did talk to the nurse today and found out that he again spiked a temp of over 102.7 -- so they continue to draw blood and do tests. I will talk to the doctor later today. Take care and God bless. Happy Friday!
Keegan is getting ready for another week at Rochester. He is scheduled for several appointments and his first round of Radiation. Mark & Kristin are on their way down with Tim to get his heart checked out so Keegan is going down with them. Pray all goes well for both boys. Thank you Ericksons! I guess now Keegan will have to remember when to take his meds, etc. (lol)
I am staying home with cameron and keri this next week. I'm sure they are relieved, maybe. During this week Keegan has enjoyed many school events and other activities. Until next time. Lisa

Hi again! This is Kristin reporting for Lisa. She just called with updated information on Keegan.

Keegan and Lisa will be flying home tomorrow, and should be back in Cooperstown in time for the basketball games!!

Keegan will begin 6 weeks of radiation therapy at Mayo on January 30th.

Pray for Keegan and Lisa as they travel tomorrow, and as they organize things for the extended stay in Rochester. Pray for Keegan to have an increased appetite. And pray for Keegan as he prepares himself for the extended time and treatments in Rochester.

Thursday, January 19, 2006 9:53 PM CST

Hi everyone! This is Kristin again reporting for Lisa.

We have great news! Keegan's cat scan showed NO TUMORS!!!!!!

The not so good news is that Keegan may need a feeding tube as he is not gaining enough weight. Pray for an increased appetite!!! Also, the doctors are recommending that Keegan have radiation therapy. And Keegan is not too thrilled about that.

Keegan and Lisa will be meeting with the doctors tomorrow to decide on the next course of action.

Thanks for your prayers.

Wednesday, January 18, 2006 5:14 PM CST

Hello everyone! This is Kristin Erickson reporting for Lisa and Keegan.

Lisa called about 3:20 pm today and said that she and Keegan had arrived safely in Rochester. Keegan is feeling much better since returning home from Meritcare in Fargo, and even sat with the boys' basketball teams during their home games last evening.

Keegan and Lisa are staying at the Kahler Suites, Room 204. Their phone number is 507-285-9200. Keegan will have his follow-up tests Thursday and Friday, and then he and Lisa will fly home Saturday morning, hopefully in time for the basketball games going on all day in Cooperstown on Saturday!

Keep the prayers coming!

Saturday, January 14, 2006 3:36 PM CST

Sorry about your loss last night Cougars! Congratulations to the Wolverines on their win! Go Blue and Gold!

Got news today that when they took out Keegan's Hickman Catheter they did a culture on it and the cause of the fevers is most likely that there was a 4+ Staff Infection at the end of the tube! So far other cultures are negative. His temp is heading up again now. Wish we could listen to the games good luck kids!

Friday, January 13, 2006 12:10 AM CST

Dear friends of Keegan and Lisa,

Pastor Mark Erickson reporting on behalf of Keegan and Lisa:

I just had a very disheartening call from Lisa. She brought Keegan back to the hospital this morning after he had had very high fever – up to 105 degrees! (It is now about 102) They will be there for at least 48 hours. He’s in Room 495.

They are very concerned that there might be a fungal infection involved. This would be extremely discouraging!! Pray that that won’t be the case!

Almost as discouraging is the fact that Keegan can’t be along with the basketball team today or tomorrow as they finish out the Barnes County Tournament.

He has been at school most of these past days, and was at the girls basketball game last night – cheering and clowning around – wearing two caps, gloves, and a winter coat inside the gym because of his fever.

Pray that Lisa and Keegan will be able to keep up their spirits as they trust in God, and that together we and they will see God work His wonders!

Pastor Mark

Sorry it has taken so long for me to write. Seems as though life has gotten busier or I'm getting older! Whew! Next week Keegan and I go back to Rochester for followup and I'll be sure to write after that. Keegan's new goal is to gain or at least maintain his current weight (down 80 pounds from a year ago). Happy belated birthday to my dad and my dear friend Kristin and cousins Bonnie and Craig. I'm not very good about getting cards out this year and that should have been a new years resolution I guess! God Bless and have a great week. Lisa (33235)

Monday, January 2, 2006 8:25 PM CST

Good Evening. Back to the school grind starting tomorrow for all of us, Lucas starts back on the 10th. He came home last night and it's been real nice having him around. Tonight he took Keegan up to the Girls Basketball game--Good Luck Cougars! Tomorrow he will try a 1/2 day of school and he'd like to sit on the bench tomorrow night for the boys home game. We hope all goes well. Keegan has lost more than 12 pounds since we got home from Rochester, so the doctor in Fargo is insisting on seeing him on Wednesday. We will go to his doctor appointment on Wednesday. God Bless you all during this new year! Lisa (32313)

Thursday, December 29, 2005 10:53 PM CST

Happy New Year to you all. We arrived home from Mom's yesterday around noon. Keegan's appointment went quite well except taht it took several hours -- I guess that's what they call a work in appointment. His counts are okay now and his feet are still numb. Dr. K is checking in to any mineral deficiencies Keegan might have, I have not heard the blood test results yet. The Physical Therapist is trying to help Keegan get his strength back three times a week. It seems that whenever Keegan tries to eat something that isn't soft it is very difficult for him to eat/swallow, I am wondering if he isn't having some scar tissue issues with his esophogus/throat. Hope you all ring in the New Year safely. God Bless. Thank you for all of the continued thoughts and prayers. Lisa

Wednesday, December 21, 2005 4:18 PM CST

Good Afternoon.
Today has been a very physically difficult day. He is just plain tired he says and can't sleep. Physical therapy was here for eval today and said she will be coming out 3 times a week to help Keeg to get stronger. Keri is 12 today and enjoying all of the suprise gifts that keep appearing. Not only that but Christmas gifts have been mysteriously appearing on our porch and at the house. Thank you.

Memorial Service for Keegan's Dad Kevin will be on Thursday Evening, December 22nd at 7:00 at the Quam-Cushman-Plaistad Funeral Home, Cooperstown. Visitation will be from 5-7. Keegan and I will be there around 6 or 6:30.

There will be hotdishes served for any family and special friends in the basement of Presbyterian church at 5:30 pm.

The funeral will be at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cooperstown on Friday, December 23rd at 11:00 a.m. with burial at the Cooperstown Cemetary. A meal will be served following the service by a Trinity Lutheran Church serving group. Following that we will be gathering at our house for fellowship and if Keegan needs to rest he will be able to. God Bless. Lisa (31133)

Tuesday, December 20, 2005 1:23 AM CST

We made it home -- and just like the old barmaiding days -- too wound up to sleep. It was a very difficult day for Keegan -- still can't keep much down and will have to be on at home fluids. We can tell from all of the notes on the poster on our door that Keegan was missed a whole bunch. The discharge process was a very long process over six hours to arrange appointments and home health and meds and and and and nearly $1000 (home meds and supplies) we finally were on our way. Thank you Deanna for helping me move out of the Ronald McDonald House and for making the trip down to Rochester with Lucas from the Cities. Anyway we are home and in time for Keri's birthday on Wednesday!
Happy Holiday's to you All! Lisa and Family (30884)

Sunday, December 18, 2005 2:25 PM CST

STOP THE MAIL FOLKS! I love to get it but hopefully we will be getting it at home after Tuesday. The doctor team here is looking at releasing Keegan Monday and having a checkup next week in Fargo, blood work and fluids in Cooperstown and not traveling to Rochester until January. YEAH!!!! Hope all goes as planned -- we need to pray that his stomach can keep fluids down.
Merry Christmas. Lisa and Family

Saturday, December 17, 2005 3:59 PM CST
We got some very sad news today and I would like to ask for extra prayers for the kids. Kevin their father passed away in his sleep last night and Lucas and Uncle Vern are seeing to the details. Keegan has been sleeping since I told him and I am not sure how he is doing. The doctor team is trying to get him out of here on a 48 hour pass to go back to Cooperstown. We'll see what happens. God works so mysteriously doesn't he. Cameron went in to put on Kevin's sock this morning and he couldn't wake him up. Lucas then performed CPR while Cameron called 911. What a shock! Will try to keep you updated as the week progresses. Lisa

Thursday, December 15, 2005 12:22 PM CST

Hi All:
When doctor was in today she said there's no reason keegan couldn't feasibly be out of the hospital by Monday. He needs to get more off his backside and up and moving around -- which is too painful with his very tender feet. He is also still haveing a very difficult time swallowing and his throat seems extremely sore yet. He has taken much less pain meds in the last 24 hours and he may have to be discharged on IV TPN (nutrition) and Lipids but he wouldn't be laying in a hospital room then.
Keep on praying. Love Lisa (today's count 30149) WOW! Thanks everybody.

Tuesday, December 13, 2005 8:24 PM CST

Hi all --
Can't believe December is half over. Yesterday Keegan said, "is it Monday again? We've been here a lot of Mondays". Today Keegan had a not too bad day. The OT and PT were in to access him and give him bed exercises, and try to convince him he needed to be up moving around more. Tonight the fever must be heading upwards cuz he seems real warm and he wanted ice bags. Seems like one minutes his teeth are chattering and the next he's really warm. It looks like if Keegan does get out of the hospital before Christmas we won't be able to leave Rochester until later -- seems he needs to be here 10 days to 2 weeks after discharge for checkups and what not. If anyone has any ideas to get Cameron and Keri down here I'm open for suggestions. Missing everyone at home and wishing you all a blessed holiday season. Until next time. Lisa (tonight's count 29815) Thanks for all the cards, letters and prayers. You are ALL so special.

Friday, December 9, 2005 8:57 PM CST

Just a quick note before I crash with a terrible headache. Keegan had about 5 great hours today, laughing at the Dukes of Hazzard second season. He spent way too long enjoying his shower -- he says it felt so good first hot then cool. He's looking forward to Lucas and friends coming to see him tomorrow. Tonight unfortunately his temp has now hit 40 degrees centigrade which I think is 104 and he's been on 02 for the last 24 hours. His blood pressure wasn't too bad for a while but is now too low -- This is the first day of no blood products and within the next 5 days his counts should start to recover. Thank you so much for all of the thoughts, prayers and concerns. You are all appreciated. Until next time, Lisa (tonight's count 29366)

Tuesday, December 6, 2005 2:14 PM CST

Hi everyone! This is Pastor Mark and Kristin Erickson updating the site.

Keegan has had a rough weekend with high fevers and pain due to sores in his mouth and esophagus from the chemo. He is on antibiotics and pain meds.

He is feeling a bit better today.

Keegan and Lisa have moved to a bigger room, so please note the new room number and phone number. When sending mail to them, please use the hospital address since Lisa stays with Keegan for several days at a time, and thus checks her mail at the Ronald McDonald House infrequently.

Pray for Keegan's temp to return to normal, for his sores to heal, and for his hemoglobin counts, white blood cell counts, and platelet counts to return quickly to normal.

Pray for strength and patience for Lisa. And pray for Lucas, Cameron, and Keri Ann as they are separated from Keegan and Lisa during this time.

Lisa thanks each one of you for your cards, phone calls, emails, caringbridge entries, and prayers.

Saturday, December 3, 2005 4:43 AM CST

Wow over 400 hits since Tuesday! Thanks you guys. I can't tell you how much it means. And thanks to all of the extended family and friends who take time to say hi. It means so much to me and Keegan.
Keegan has had a rough few days spiking a temp of 101-103 on a daily basis. By evening he feels pretty tough.
We finally got Internet in our room so he can go on messenger now for those of you who like to visit him that way. Congratulations girls on your victory the other night and boys good luck on your scrimmage. Lee, God Speed as you have surgery on Monday.
Woke up and couldn't get back to sleep, apretty regular occurance around hear, I am starting to long for my queen size bed these mini couches aren't to comfortable for a larger person.
Hopefully today will be better. Keegan got his stem cells yesterday and so far has had no ill effects from the preservative. We look forward to a quick recovery so we can be back with family and friends at home before Christmas. God Bless you all. Lisa (28489)

Tuesday, November 29, 2005 7:24 PM CST

Today hasn't been a super day. Keegan wasn't even comfortable with me leaving for a little bit so I've been with him all day. We walked down two hallways before he got sick to his stomach. He has had to have extra doses of antinausea meds again and 'feels like crap'.
Here's his scheduled treatment:
Day 10 Nov22 IV Fluids
Day 9 Nov23 VP 16 1000 mg/m2
Day 8-6 Nov24-26 Thiotepa 300 mg/m2 (1 unit blood was given on Day 8)
Day 5-2 Nov27-30 Cytoxan 50 mg/kg with Mesna
Day 1 Dec 1 Day of Rest
Day 0 Dec 2 Stem Cell Infusion
Day +7 Dec 9 For at least 10 days G-CSF 5 mcg/kg/day
Following this he will have to recover all of his counts so as to not be neutrophic (I think that's what they call it)
Right now he can still go out in public -- soon he will not be able to.
Keegan will go on IV nutrition starting tomorrow as the soreness is starting to appear in his mouth and throat.
Thanks for all the prayers and good wishes.
Lisa (count 28083)

Hey all,
Well it's been over a week of being gone now -- Keegan has finished day six of chemo. He is feeling very tough the last couple of days extremely nauseous. He has had to have extra anti-nausea medicine. Thanks for all the cards and letters it is extremely appreciated. Well at least I got my Christmas Card letter nearly done. Wishing you peace and joy this Christmas Season with blessings from above.God's Blessing to You!
Love, Lisa and Keegan

Friday, November 25, 2005 11:42 PM CST

So far things going okay -- Keegan says if this is as bad as it gets it won't be so bad. Unfortunately, the hospital computers do not allow any messenger programs and my network card is not compatible with their network so I can't get him to messenger. KIDS CALL HIM IN THE HOSPITAL SOMETIMES PLEASE!!! Four weeks will be a long time if there is no communication with hometown kids. We are enjoying mail and calls from home. The chemo Keegs is on now could burn his skin from the inside out so he has to shower three times a day after he received his chemo. Will try to write every couple of days. Take care all and don't forget to write even just to say hi. If you want to write to Keegan his email is kott_30_06@hotmail.com
Tootles. Lisa (today's count is 27444)

Tuesday, November 22, 2005 8:38 PM CST

We made it into the Hospital but will still be gettin our mail and having a room at the Rondald McDonald House
Keegan is in the Mary brigh Children's Hospital at St. Mary's. He is in Room 3-524 -- direct phone to the room is 507 - 287 - 4318

He will be going into surgery first thing in the morning to get a hickman port before they will start chemo.

God Bless and have a great week. Lisa

Tuesday, November 22, 2005 9:51 AM CST
Here's Keegan's treatment plan:
Keegan will go in for hydration this evening. Wednesday he will have surgery to put in a hickman and Wednesday or Thursday they will start with the heavy dose chemo which will last for 10 days (3 different types) -- following that he will be in the hospital for 4 or more weeks to recover -- sounds scary Dr Khan said he WOULD BE VERY SICK.

Yesterday we were at the clinic from 7 am to 5 pm with tests. Today we have a day off so we will relax and spend some time together.

Lisa and Keegan

Journal

Monday, November 14, 2005 4:15 AM CST

Good Morning All!
Having difficulty sleeping. Somethimes if I get things off my mind they go better.
Last week Keegan's brother Lucas turned 21. He came home and the boys went hunting. We also had our Thanksgiving dinner with the Ott's. I think the kids enjoyed it.
I imagine sleep will be harder to come by this week as I prepare to spend and undetermined amount of time in Rochester. Must get things ready at school and at home. Sounds like Keri will stay again with Helm's for a portion of the time, she and Diedre are in so many of the same activities that it works extremely well. Cameron will be spending his time with his dad, which is handier now that he has a driver's license.
I don't know when Lucas will be around cooper.
Keegan got his buck on his hunt with his friend Mark. I have seen the video but do not have a sitll photo to put up will put it up as soon as I get it.
I don't think Keegan is feeling extreemly well as he slept on the couch last night and that is very unusual for him. I guess I'll know in a couple of hours.

UPDATE MONDAY NOVEMBER 14, 2005 AT 4:00 PM CST

I just spoke with Lisa on the phone, and she and Keegan are driving to Fargo. She is asking for prayer because Keegan’s blood counts are in the basement, i.e. “very low,” and he has a bad cough. Pray that his counts will increase, and that his cough will discontinue. This is important because if his counts are not high enough, or if his cough continues, they may have to reschedule or back off on the planned treatment at Mayo next week.

Pastor Mark

We are home! I am taking a sick day today as my bronchitus has taken a turn for the worse and I can do nothing but cough. And Keegan was able to have a 1qt infusion of blood yesterday so he will be good to go for opening weekend!
Words cannot express how we all feel for the tremendous efforts made by the Helping Hands and Friends! The way I have been feeling it was a tremendous load off my mind not to worry about cleaning house too! Thank you so very much.
Received a call from Mayo yesterday. Keegan will be admitted on the 21st of November to begin the pre-transplant testing. The Websters will be having their Thanksgiving on Saturday November 20 at Todd and Lees {Keegan couldn't miss the best meal of the year!}
More later, Lis

Friday, October 21, 2005 9:38 AM CDT

I think I finally may be aware of what is going on next week. Today, Keegan will go with the rest of the XC team to the State Meet in Bismarck. Saturday when he arrivees home we will go to my Mom's in Valley City to spend the night. A pilot from Angel Flight will pick up up at the Barnes County Airport in Valley City at 10 am on Sunday. He will fly us to Rochester where we will be until Thursday. While we are at Mayo I anticipate after my visit with Dr Khan that Keegan will have a couple of tests and evaluations and possible set up the time for the Stem Cell Transplant. Their Transplant unit is full right now so we will return home with a plan anyway on Thursday. God Bless. Lisa

Friday, October 14, 2005 9:29 AM CDT

Good Morning!

Chemo this time is going as well as can be expected. He feels like he's "been run over by a train". Dr K was in this morning and said his vote is for the Stem Cell transplant and radiation -- the other day he said surgery and stem cell transplant. When I asked him about it he said that history with this has been that if we go too long without chemo it comes back whole hog.
Keegan and I plan on leaving Fargo about 8:15 tomorrow so we can make it to the XC regional meet in Cooperstown and then we'll have to come back and finish chemo. Go COUGARS!

Plans are to head down to Rochester on the 23rd for evaluation appointments on Monday and Tuesday. We and Starke's may very well be there at the same time, we'll have to stay in touch!
God Bless. Lisa
PS. I miss you terribly, Cameron and Keri!

Tuesday, October 11, 2005 6:04 PM CDT

Hey,
Well Keegan's out like a light. Day 1 of five days of Chemo. Scans showed the tumors have steadily reduced and are not resistent to the chemo yet. Before we leave here we will have an appointment scheduled for Mayo: first for surgery and then for extensive chemo and stem cell transplant.
On Saturday we hope that I can take Keegan back to Cooperstown on Day Pass for the Regional XC Meet -- I was planning on working and he would like to be there for the team. I guess we'll find out on Friday.
Thank you for the continued prayers and be sure you check out the other journal entries for all that's been happening.
God Bless, Lisa

Supposed to be much cooler than this 78 degrees tomorrow. Like less than 55! Whew. That just seems cold until you realize that it's nearly October.
Keegan did not tolerate this chemo as well as in the past and missed over a week of school but was back in school this week. Unfortunately, today his counts are extremely low with a white count of 0.4 and a hemoglobin of 8.5 it is very likely that he will be having blood products this week, he gets his blood retested on Thursday. Time will tell.
I'd ask you all to keep the family of a gal from church in your prayers, the young lady has had some bleeding in the brain and excessive headaches. May God be with you all in this time of need.
October 7th Keegan will go back in for another scan after which we may have some direction as to where we will go from here. Have a great rest of September and beginning of October. Love Lis

We just got checked into the hospital and we are waiting for Keegan's meds to arrive. He should be ready to go home by Wednesday. Saw Jared downstairs and he is in to get blood and platlets, he's been feeling pretty tough the last week he said, sick to his stomach and such. Keegan says he feels good but we've only been here about 20 minutes and hes sound asleep without Benedryl!!! We have a different room this time. Keegan is in room 495 (phone 234-5495). God Bless. Lisa

Tuesday, September 13, 2005 6:24 PM CDT

He did so well!

He sure enjoyed hunting. Thanks Mark, Bryan and Brian! Tonight he is off to a Volleyball game and am pretty sure he'll be heading to Fargo tomorrow because his counts are getting so very low. Today, Cameron is 15 and very ill. He came home sick from school last night, stuffy nose, headaches and sore throat. Keri came home from eco ed camp sounding as stuffed up as Cameron. Such is the life. God Bless. Take care all. As always, Lis

Saturday, September 10, 2005 7:21 PM CDT

sleeping like a baby!
Keegan is exhausted. It has been homecoming week here and he has been very busy, his class won the hallway award and the float award. Many of them are also active in sports.
Jared is the new Homecoming King (for those of you who don't know him, he is another boy from our community that is fighting for his life also).
This morning Keegan ran a 4K race (cross country) and finished to a standing ovation!!! What an emotional time for Mom. Both our boys and girls won their cross country races unfortunately the football team didn't have as good of fortune.
Just received notice today that Keegan has his next appointment on the 16th and an echocardiogram as well.
All for now. God Bless. Lisa
Oh yea I almost forgot, Keegan is looking forward to goose hunting tomorrow morning with one of his friends. The kid knows no limits, I guess.

Monday, September 5, 2005 10:55 PM CDT

Another summer is over. School is well on its way. We are all in our third week around here. Keegan has been busy with homework most of the weekend. He would have liked to gone bird hunting but it didn't work out for this weekend. Next week is homecoming for GCC and Keegan is planning on running in the XC meet at the country club on Saturday. Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. God Bless. Love, Lisa

Saturday, August 27, 2005 1:18 PM CDT

Wow a week of school already behind us. Keegan has been practicing with the Cross Country team but can't seem to get enough practices in to compete. That's okay -- he gets to go to meets and see and be with his friends.
Monday he will return to MeritCare for another week of chemotherapy. We will be home on Saturday. I know he really wants to see Dukes of Hazard while we are in Fargo so I hope we are able to have the day passes again.
Last week Keegan had another CT scan -- Results: tumor in chest area has disappeared (no chest surgery), tumor between kidney and liver seems to be absorbing into the tissue, and the tumor in the rectal area has reduced by nearly 50%. Dr. K was all but running up and down the halls of the clinic telling everyone, I guess that means its not only good news it's excellent news! Two more rounds of chemo and then another CT scan (with Barium). After that well know if surgery is necessary. If the next scan shows less than 30% or so reduction -- surgery. If it shows another 50% reduction -- we keep on going with chemo.
More later. Love, :) Lisa & family

Monday, August 8, 2005 7:25 PM CDT

Good Evening
Keegan and I ended up making a trip to Fargo late this afternoon -- his hemoglobin is only 8.5 and dropping. They drew blood for type and match however from experience we know it sometimes takes several hours to actually get the product.
On the up side Keegan did go to XC practice this morning and seemed to enjoy it although he was way more tired than normal. Gee, I wonder why?? ha ha
Take care and have a great week. Lisa

Monday, August 1, 2005 8:59 PM CDT

We're back in Fargo again -- we got to see Stealth today -- don't believe a word the critics say -- we both loved it. Lucas started moving to Fargo for the new school term -- this way he can take his time moving.

UPDATE
He will have two days of chemo this time then go home to recover -- we'll return on the 22nd for a CT scan and more chemo -- after he recovers from that providing the chemo is working -- we will be heading for Mayo for the first of two surgeries... and so on.

More later. Love Lisa
PS we're back in our room 492 but the plan is to be discharged on Wednesday morning -- call first if you are coming down.

I have messaging on my Cell phone 701-789-0541

Thanks for all the kind words, prayers, hugs and all .. Love Lis

Happy Hot Summer!
Guess we can't say that we didn't get summer this year huh?
Thank you to all of you that leave messages, it is greatly appreciated. Even if you just say HI it means the world to the kids and I! It's so exciting to see that so many people check on Keegan yet it would be nice to know who you are too. Thanks for caring!
Tomorrow we are spending the day at a demolition derby in Northwood. Lucas and Grant (a friend of his) have been working all week to get a car going for Keegan so that he will be able to get a few hits in (God willing) When he was in the previous derby his starter went because it was too hot. We wish him well.

We have a "sort of" schedule for the next 6-8 months. Keegan will go back in the hospital for a week of chemo beginning August 1st. He will hopefully be home on Saturday the 6th. Surgery 1 of 2 should be able to be performed before the end of August in Rochester. He must fully recover from that one before they will do the second one. We do not know whether or not chemo will be done in Fargo between. Keegan must fully recover from the second surgery prior to the High Dose Chemo at Rochester followed by Stem Cell replacement some time in November or December. If necessary we will need to spend 7-8 weeks in Rochester for radiation therapy.

DON'T FORGET THE GRIGGS COUNTY RELAY FOR LIFE next Friday, July 29th, 2005. Opening Ceremony will be at 7pm and the candlelighting ceremony will begin around 9:30. Should be a moving, inspirational time for all. Thank you to all who are volunteering and participating.

If you know of anyone who may consider flying us to and from Rochester when the times come I'd be interested in hearing from you. It isn't necessary for us to have a vehicle with the hospital providing shuttle services around the city. Keegan and I would like to explore the option of flying between Cooperstown and Rochester as it will be several trips.

Remember, Friends are the angels that lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly. THank you all for being my angels. God Bless. Day to day my friends and family hug my heart and get me through to the next day!

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart!

Love, Lis

Friday, July 15, 2005 6:23 PM CDT

Finally, I have Internet access in Keegan's room -- dial up but better than nothing.
Having a not so bad, can be expected kind of week. Been working on my Christmas scrapbook -- what a chore -- imagine some years no pictures....
Looking forward to going home tomorrow as is Keegan. Will let you all know more as things happen.
A special thank you to all the visitors and to my brother Scott for updating this page. More later. Lisa

Tuesday, July 12, 2005 11:03 PM CDT

Hello Everyone!
Just got the word through Mom that Lisa called with an update and wanted me to pass it on to all. Keegan is up for a 5 day chemo in Fargo this week and will be discharged on Saturday.

Today was not a very good day for Keegs. Hopefully the other days will be better. If he is feeling good, they let him out on pass during the day to spend with Lisa and then he gets his chemo at night. This seems to work better for him.

Lisa said she is still waiting to hear from Rochester to find out what the "plan" is going to be. She'll provide an update as she hears.

Keegan would like visitors if you are in Fargo otherwise, he is taking phone calls too. He is in room 492 and his phone is 234-5492. Will update more as I get it.

God Bless,
Uncle Scott W.

Saturday, July 9, 2005 1:16 AM CDT

Good Morning!
Cars are finally done. Parade at 10:30 am and Derby at 5:00 pm. Excitement and nervousness all at the same time.
Keegan goes back into MeritCare on Monday for Chemo -- don't know for how long or when he goes back to Mayo. Will write when I know more.
God Bless. Love, Lisa

Hi everyone
We finally found the patient communications center. Thought we'd be able to use my laptop during our stay but wrong motel! Oh well Pastor Mark does an excellent job keeping you all updated. Thank you Pastor Mark.

Yesterday, Keegan had a CT scan (no barium or lemonade down here) and we had several doctor conferences. Radiation oncologist first -- Keegan still has a minimal tumor in his chest, a fairly large one near the rectum, and scarring or a small tumor between the right kidney and liver. Stem cells collected were over 8 million and they only needed 5 so he is in great shape that way. Today we see the surgeon (in 15 minutes) and then we will have more of a plan which I will add to this notation.

Tuesday, June 28, 2005, 3:41 PM

Just came from a team meeting. The tumor in his chest and the one near the retum are removable according to the pediatric surgical team.
By the end of this week and before the holiday they will share the plan with us!

Sounds like one more round of chemo in Fargo while Keegan finishes healing. Then there will be a surgery in his lower abdomen. There will also be a surgery hopefully with a scope for his chest. (don't know what order)We will come here for MEGAChemo and then stem cell replant. Following that we will return here for 7 weeks for radiation therapy.
Whew! I guess Keegan and my summer vacations are all planned out.

Don't forget the Demolition Derby in Cooperstown on Saturday, July 9 at 5:00pm. Both Keegan and Lucas have cars!

Take care and God Bless. Love, Lisa

Friday, June 24, 2005 9:07 PM CDT

Pastor Mark again....Lisa still can't get on-line down there.

I just talked to her, and she says hello to everyone. And thanks for your continuing prayer and care.

Yesterday and today Keegan "gave blood." For five hours each day, they took blood out of one arm, separated the stem cells from the other components of the blood, and returned the rest into the other arm. They will now freeze these cells and re-introduce them in a few weeks after Keegan undergoes a high-dose chemotherapy treatment (triple the normal dose).

They have the weekend "off," and on Monday, Keegan will have a CAT scan done, and then at least one and probably two or three conferences with medical staff to determine what to do and when. It looks like they'll be home early next week.

If you didn't read the previous journal entry, you might want to do so since there is a little more information there that I didn't want to repeat here.

All for now.

Wednesday, June 22, 2005 11:28 PM CDT

Pastor Mark reporting again.

I spent parts of the last two days with Keegan and Lisa here in Rochester. Lisa doesn't have access to the internet in her hotel, so I offered to write this for now. Hopefully, she'll be on later today or tomorrow with an update.

We had several initial meetings yesterday with several doctors of different specialties, working together to beat this cancer. They are staying at the Kahler Inn right across the street from Mayo. Their number there is 507 285 9200 -- Room 535.

The plan for now is to harvest a significant number of stem cells from Keegan's blood over the next couple days. They have a special machine that hooks up to both arms (or a port in the neck if the veins aren't suitable). It takes blood out, extracts the stem cells, and then puts the blood back in the other arm. The process is called apheresis. You can find some FAQs about this procedure at the following website: http://cis.nci.nih.gov/fact/7_41.htm

Keegan will also need another MRI or CAT scan to detect any lingering tumors in his body -- and we know that there are a few already.

Then, Keegan is probably going to come home for a few days next week before undergoing more surgery to take out all the tumors they can (probably in Fargo).

After that, Keegan will come back here to Mayo and receive "high-dose chemotherapy," which is triple the amount normally given. In fact, it would be lethal if not for the fact that they will reintroduce Keegan's stem cells to his body. They are cancer-free, and are intended to result in full recovery. But even so, it is very serious.

Today the three of us went to lunch and then to Batman Begins. We had a very pleasant time in spite of the heat and road construction everywhere! I plan to return to Cooperstown today (Thursday).

Thank you for your continued prayers for Keegan and his family! They find so much strength and encouragement through them!

Pastor Mark

Wednesday, June 15, 2005 2:38 PM CDT

We are home and have one new licensed driver -- KEEGAN! Tomorrow I leave for the National Business Educators Conference being held in Fargo -- I am a speaker and very nervous.
Our plans for the summer really were thrown when we found out on Sunday that Keegan is scheduled to go to Mayo even more that the appointment is on the 21st -- that's next week whew!! It will be a stem cell harvest assessment and can take anywhere from 3 to 7 days. When we get back he meets with the surgeon to schedule surgery on the tumor in his chest BUT "we can't keep Keegan from the derby" so his surgery will be scheduled for the week of July 11th probably -- unless plans change between now and then after all it is over a week a way....
Take care all and God Bless. Lisa

Saturday, June 11, 2005 9:45 AM CDT

Three days down -- 2.5 to go -- this time chemo has worked better for Keegan because they don't give it to him until evening time so he sleeps through the worst of it and gets a day pass so we get to leave for a couple of hours during the day. One day we went to lunch and a movie, another time we went "hunting" window shopping and ended up with a new scope, arghhh! Today I think some friends are going to take him to the new Star Wars.
Hope to be home on Monday afternoon. My heart goes out to Angie and Craig and the rest of the family. God be with you.
As always, Lisa

Wednesday, June 8, 2005 6:53 PM CDT

Good Evening!
Keegan's counts were finally "high enough" still very low though. Chemo was just started and Keegan is rather sleepy so I thought I'd pop out to have a bite to eat.
Thanks for all of you who have been thinking about us.
Hi to Keri and Cameron!
God Bless. Lisa

Friday, June 3, 2005 12:26 AM CDT

Great news!

The CT scan on Tuesday showed that the chemo Keegan had last week shrunk the chest tumor by over 50!!!

Bad News!
As soon as his counts recover we do the five day treatment all over.

Good News (for Keegan)!
He has doctor's blessing to participate in the demo derby in July. "There is no known medical reason you can't unless you are feeling poorly"

Counts have been steadily dropping and we will have to get him a blood test before we see if he can start treatment on Monday.

Will write more next week.

Love ya, Lisa

Friday, May 27, 2005 3:37 PM CDT

Hello--
Chemo is winding down. Keegan will be done around 10 pm so we won't be leaving until tomorrow morning.
He is really having a tough day -- he was very sick to his stomach today and those protein shakes won't even go down. I just want to be able to pick him up and cuddle him! Mommy can't make this go away...some days are so hard.
Take care and have a sunny memorial weekend. Lis

Wednesday, May 25, 2005 11:57 AM CDT

Keegan is pretty disappointed at the shape up of the summer as we will be in here every other week -- what a bummer!!
Looks like stem cell harvet will be the first week or so of September and then am not sure what happens. Next time I will get the cancer treatment drugs listed for those of you who are interested.
Keegan will be discharged on Saturday but I will still be nurse as he will be having some growth factor shots when he returns home.
Keri is off to Tennessee and Cameron has started driver's ed. I think that Lucas is back at work at Kelly's.

Tuesday, May 24, 2005 9:35 AM CDT

Good Morning!
Whew where does the time go. Seems I never have the chance to get this updated in a timely manner. Sorry.
This morning Keri and her Destination Imagination Group headed off to Global Finals in Knoxville, Tennesee. Cameron starts Driver's Ed and has to get lawns mowed. Lucas is back at Kelly's. Kevin is busy running Cameron back and forth to town. Keegan and I are back in Fargo. Port surgery and day 1 chemo yesterday, felt like sh** all night and is better for the time being today, until the chemo gets on board again.
Last weekend Lucas, Keegan, Gramma and I went to Bloomington for a wedding of my Aunt Alice's grand son. Keegan and Lucas met and spent time with Lanettes boys Jeff and Jason. Think they had a great time and Gram and I sure had a great time: Barb & Lanette and all of Alice's kids. What a fun time!
Keegan's schedule is like so: 5 days chemo two weeks off, 2 days chemo two weeks off, 5 days chemo two weeks off, 2 days chemo two weeks off, same as above two more times, then we go to Mayo for a stem cell harvest. Am not sure what all that entails as of yet.
Will try to write as soon as I have more information.
Love and Hugs, Lisa & Keegan

Sunday, May 15, 2005 5:47 PM CDT

We made it home!
After a stressful day in the hospital on Friday (Keegan fainted) he was allowed to leave towards evening. We stopped and picked up gram and homeward we went.
Things are going okay. I think he gets more tired than he expected and spends a lot of time laying around.
He will begin chemo on the 23rd and have surgery following that.
More later.

Wednesday, May 11, 2005 3:53 PM CDT

Hi all
Great news today -- took out Keegan's IV but the drain is still in as he is still having to get rid of some fluid. Doctors are looking at releasing him on Friday and then we will meet with Dr. Berdine the thorasic surgeon in 2 weeks to schedule the next surgery. Haven't had much chance to talk with the onocologist to see about the new plan of action. We have talked about bone marrow transplant etc.
It makes my day when I can read what you all write to Keegan and I -- I usually print them and put them up in the room.

This is by far our longest stay and I am so thankful for all of the family and friends support and prayers. If you're just stopping by this website please leave a hi how are you message. I know it's hard to know what to say just a hi helps me. Thanks Lisa

Monday, May 9, 2005 5:36 PM CDT

It's Pastor Mark again...

I just talked with Lisa for a while, and have the following information.

Keegan is still fighting a high fever.

He also had to have tube put in to drain fluid from his body where the tumors had been.

They also learned that Keegan will need surgery again to find out more about the tumor(s) in his chest, and possibly remove it (them). He needs to get better from the first surgery first; they hope to do this additional surgery within four weeks.

Lisa and Keegan are very thankful for your concern and prayers! Keep up the good work, everyone!

Friday, May 6, 2005 3:32 PM CDT

Hi
Keegan is on the road to recovery. He has had a couple of very tough nights with night sweats and fevers. No news yet of pathology. Thanks for all of the awesome prayers. Love Lisa

PS:
9:30 PM
This is Pastor Mark Erickson from Cooperstown, ND reporting on behalf of Keegan and Lisa! I just spent some good moments with them yesterday and today, and they asked me to give a little longer update since the computer is not as available to them on this floor.

Keegan had five tumors removed during five hours of surgery on Wednesday. It was a longer, more difficult surgery than they had anticipated, and Keegan has a long uncomfortable incision to show for it.

But Keegan, as most of you know, has a pretty strong will, and is already making wise cracks to his nurses and mother. His feeding tube was removed today, and he actually took a few steps around his room!

He spiked a 103.3 fever this morning, but the pediatrician said that was good as it indicated that his body is fighting possible infection. It was down to almost normal tonight, although the doctor expects it may spike from time to time these next couple days. All in all, he's doing as well as can be hoped at this point.

Lisa spent last night in a small reclining chair next to Keegan's bed, and will likely do so again tonight. They really appreciate your expressions of friendship and concern through cards, gifts and occasional phone calls. They may possibly be out of the hospital around the middle of next week.

Let us continue to pray for Keegan, Lisa and the whole family. Pray for protection from infections or viruses. Pray for Keegan's body to be able to fight and the medicines to have strong effect. Pray for continued growth in their trust in God during this testing time.

Thanks for caring!

Pastor Mark, on behalf of Lisa and Keegan

Thursday, April 28, 2005 10:44 AM CDT

Good day all!

Whew! What a day we had yesterday. I can feel the hugs everyone keeps sending.

Yesterday was probably the most frustrating appointment ever -- to start with it was 20 minutes after appointment time before we got in and THEN the nurse asked "what was the date of your transplant?" WHAT? I said -- Keegan's expression was priceless... I finally said "do recall last winter a football sized tumor?...this is the kid it was taken out of." Finally a note of recognition -- and a "but there is nothing listed under the problem tab --now to wait for the surgeon.

He was surprisingly fast, but he only shook hands and left because he had to "relook at the scans" -- 20 minutes later he comes back and says, I can't get at them. He put Keegan up on the table felt a bit in his abdomen and says we'll have to operate -- duh!!! How soon I say -- ah I can't get him in until next week unless it's an emergency..arghhhhhh!
Angrily I head to the oncologist office and find that he is on vacation...what's a mother to do?

Keegan is excited though because this means he'll get to compete at the Regional Track Meet on Tuesday and then he'll go in some time in the wee hours on Wednesday for surgery.

Tuesday night several of Keegan's classmates "surprised" him. And he thought I had something to do with it, not this time -- it was all the kids. They ordered pizza and watched movies. I think it really made Keegan's day. He was pretty bummed out because the track meet for that day got cancelled due to bad snow and rain in Fessedon, also the Larimore one was cancelled for the same reasons.

Probably won't write any more until then. Hope everyone has a great week. Take care and God Bless. Lisa and Family

Sunday, April 24, 2005 9:39 PM CDT

Well, I guess I've put this off about as long as I can. Is it Monday already tomorrow? Keegan had his four month scan on Thursday ... unfortunately, it wasn't the news we prayed for. Keegan's cancer is back. There are four new tumors. We see the surgeon on Wednesday. Will let you know more later.
Prayerfully,
Lisa

Wednesday, April 20, 2005 8:16 AM CDT

Good Morning!

Once again two months have flown by. Is it summer yet?

Tomorrow Keegan goes in for his complete body scan. Let's keep praying.

Lucas will be graduating from Wahpeton on May 13. Last week Mom and I went down for his band concert. We had a very enjoyable time.

Cameron has gotten busy with his yardwork and lawn mowing business.

Keri's Destination Imagination team will be representing the State of North Dakota at the Global Finals in Tennesee at the end of May -- seven families have started major fund raising efforts!

In July, Cooperstown will be hosting the first ever Griggs County Relay for Life. Get your teams ready our kick off should be about the 5th of May. More to follow.

The big Holm Family reunion will be June 25th. Mom is planning on a smaller Henry Holm reunion around the 4th of July for those who can't make it in June.

Camp Cyber Prairie will be happening again in June at VCSU and I hope to be on staff again and encourage Cameron and Keri to attend.

On June 17th I will be making my first ever national presentation at the Mountain Plains Business Education Association Meeting. I am pretty excited about that.

Have a safe and happy spring and summer! Lisa & Kids

Thursday, February 17, 2005 10:19 AM CST

Good Morning!
I know it's been a while, been real crazy with activity around our house. Hope this finds you all healthy and happy. Monday Keegan goes in for his first two month check up and will try to write after that. He seems to be doing just fine. I will try to put some of his basketball pictures online for you to see. He loves basketball and is planning on participating in a 3 on 3 and a team tournament in March and April, God Willing!
School's been extremely busy for all -- Cameron and Keri just had their science fair yesterday placing 3rd and 4th how exciting. I am in the midst of my second go round of parent teacher conferences in Page tonight. Keegan played nine basketball games last week and Mom follows. Whew! No wonder I'm tired. Take care all and God Bless.
P.S. Say an extra prayer for my family, my mom is going through some health issues again and they are unable to figure out what's going on. Thanks.

Wednesday, January 12, 2005 9:56 AM CST

Good Morning! Happy Snow to you all!
KEEGAN scored 12 points against Finley Sharon last night and got his port out this morning. He may resume basketball games in one week. He may run and do other activities as tolerated!!
The weather sucks he will be getting out in just over an hour and no telling what the weather will be by then.
We are due back here on February 21st for his first doctor visit of many over the next two to five years.
Stay safe.
Lisa

Friday, December 24, 2004 12:14 AM CST

Joy and Blessings to All!
We met with Keegan's doctors on the 22nd and I am just now getting to write this.
Keegan got the all clear for two months anyway. We will have to go back every two months for a "pat on the head and a look see" and every four months for a "barium diet" for the next two years.
We will be spending the holidays with my family in Valley City God Bless you all!
Lisa

Thursday, December 9, 2004 6:10 AM CST

Good Morning!
Where does the time go anyway? Keegan is home after finishing his last chemo on the 3rd. We go back on the 20th for a FULL day of tests. Then on the 22nd we'll get the results and the staff at RMC has planned a PARTY in Keegan's honor. He has been to three practices for basketball and collapses at night on the couch -- I warned him that being a couch potato was going to come back at him....
Lucas has finals next week and will be home for a couple of weeks...
Cameron has been busy repairing computers (his own junk) and working for a neighbor after school...
Keri has been staying and shopping with friends, going to after school club and awana and collapsing in bed at night. This morning a friend is going to New Rockford to the dentist and has invited Keri to go along to see her dad so she and her Dad are having breakfast together.
Me...I just keep plugging away.
Happy Holidays, Lisa and Family

Tuesday, November 23, 2004 6:59 PM CST

Keegan came home finally on Sunday and is scheduled to go back in on the 29th for his LAST chemo. He will be in for about a week. Then we go back in three weeks for scans. A "deportation" will be probably during Christmas Break. YEAH!!!!! Later. Lisa

Wednesday, November 17, 2004 11:30 AM CST

Keegan's back in this morning and is expected to be here until Saturday or Sunday. The drug he's getting this time may affect his liver and they have to clean his system before he can return home and then we are back again right after Thanksgiving.
The Ott's wish you all a Blessed Thanksgiving!
Lisa

Keegan's Hunt of a Lifetime was a success for both Lucas and Keegan. Lucas went back to school Keegan is in the hospital in Fargo Room 734 until Friday.

If you get a chance to stop by the house on Sunday Keegan has decided (just today) that it might be kind of nice to have a reception for Confirmation. Sorry Dannielle it would be tough to be at both at the same time. Keegan will be confirmed at the 9:00 Service at Trinity and then we will have a light lunch and cake at the house afterwards beginning around 11:00 a.m.

I am in the process of updating his photos. Take care and God Bless. Lisa

Just a quick note...

KEEGAN GOT HIS PRIZE ELK BULL YESTERDAY....

PICTURES WILL BE POSTED LATER...................

Tuesday, October 5, 2004 9:40 AM CDT

Keegan is so excited about His Hunt of a Lifetime Trip and going to Colorado and Wyoming we (Lucas, Keegan and I) fly out the morning of the 16th and because of work, I come back the 19th but the boys don't come back until the 21st -- they will be shooting and armed with rifles and I will be shooting at them I will be armed with three different cameras and am looking forward to the scrapbook I can make before Christmas
Keegan had another chemo yesterday and then...he went into anaphalactic shock (closes off the airway) am I ever glad we were where we were so they could take care of it -- he's alright now but just can't have the chemo drug called cisplatin (platinum) anymore. Says he's doing quite well today. He wasn't up to calling his dad yesterday, hopefully today.
He goes back in for a five day in patient treatment on the 25th (when we get back) and then about November 15 for a 3 day in paitent then I think there is only one treatment left, maybe two -- he is supposed to be done by Christmas.
Keegan is supposed to get confirmed on the 31st but after a week in the hospital he didn't know if he'd be up to it. We'll see.
Gotta get to work Take care.
Love, Lisa and kids

Monday, September 27, 2004 11:14 AM CDT

Good Morning!
Keegan, Cameron, Keri and I met Lucas in Fargo for the night on Saturday. We had a great time! Checked out the new Gander Mountain stopped by Best Buy and Walmart. We ate at FAMOUS DAVE'S Thanks Cavalier JS High School!!!!!!!
We also ate at Denny's and out of the vending machines. The kids were able to all go and see their dad at the same time. Picture moment you know! Will post that as soon as I can. Of course, a trip to Fargo wouldn't be complete without a trip to the Doctor, no, not Keegan. While the kids went to see Kevin, I went to the walk in clinic. I have a lot of fluid on my ears and have Vertigo. What a pain in the *&The kids have been so good but it is very hard to function as I have kind of come to depend on my "Balance" of which I have none any more! Take care and have a great week. Lisa and kids.

Weekly Update--
Keegan has another chemo yesterday Alimta & Cisplaten. It really gets to be a long day in Fargo as this one is done over the course of 8 hours in the office....
Cameron has a cough with no temp (yet) so has missed the last two days of school ... what a tough way to celebrate your 14th birthday!
Keri has been staying with Denise and Chuck Gruman and Katie. Thank you Grumans. Keri will be home tonight. The chemo days get pretty long so she just stays one extra night and comes home after school on the next night.
Keegan stopped to see Kevin (his dad) after treatment yesterday, Kevin is in SCCI in Fargo recovering from an infection of some sort...it didn't sound like they've gotten to the bottom of it yet. Cameron spent yesterday with Grandpa in Valley City because I didn't want to leave a sick kid too far away. He is still coughing this morning but with no temp the hospital said to just treat the symptoms and as long as he is relieved by the mentholatum then there is no worry of whooping cough. Whew!
More next week --- have a great week all and thanks for checking on Keegan! Lisa

Sunday, September 5, 2004 10:54 AM CDT

Good Morning!
Been here since about 8:30 am hoping to see Dr. K (who's not even on call!) and we did they are running a few other blood tests and maybe Keegan will get to go home!
It's possible it could be that he has Mono or another virus and we'll just have to wait it out. Will let you know more as I know more. Lisa
9:30 pm Spending another night here.

Saturday, September 4, 2004 7:02 PM CDT

Happy end of summer???!!!! It's been raining cats and dogs around here, just another typical holiday weekend. Keegan sure knows how to pick them.
He didn't even get out of bed this morning before I knew he wasn't feeling well. Temp over a 102. It's off to Fargo for us. Thankfully Lucas is home so didn't have to rearrange kids.
So far the strep culture came back negative and no other things growing -- they started him on an IV antibiotic and he has slept all day, very out of character for Keegan.
He sounds like it might be a sinus infection, but since I'm no doctor I'll withhold my judgment, I just know he's not feeling well.
Will try to get on a computer again tomorrow.
Love, Lis

Wednesday, August 25, 2004 4:33 PM CDT

Hello
Well I have 2 school days under my belt all while Keegan was having chemo and going to school for the first day. Whew!
I hope the kids had as good of a day as I have had.
Keegan seemed to tolerate his chemo well this time. Am anxious to see how school went.
Later,
Lisa

Wednesday, August 18, 2004 2:01 PM CDT

Sorry Folks:
It's been a little crazy around our place and I just realized it will soon be time for another round of chemo!
Keegan has all along planned on going out for cross country and now is not so sure, couldn't be from a summer of little or no activity could it?? I really think he'd enjoy it but I can understand his apprehension. After all in his words "I get the shit kicked out of me every three weeks and I'm supposed to avoid the direct sun"! I guess that says it all!
The CT scan last time was very "boring" according to Dr. K which means there were not any visible signs of any tumors continuing to grow YEAH!
Monday he has more chemo and Tuesday Lucas and I start school and Wednesday Keegan, Cameron and Keri start. We are all going different directions these days as I recently accepted a full-time permanent position with the Hope/Page Cooperative School district to teach business and computers! We've waited a long time for an opportunity like this. Lucas and Keegan are really excited, the other two aren't to sure they want me going another direction than they are. It is only about a 27 minute commute so I think it will be just right.
Lucas will be going to finish up in Wahpeton this year and come home next summer with a degree in Pre-Med or some such thing. Keegan will be a sophomore, Cameron an 8th grader and Keri will already be in the 5th grade! The new school I am at will be grades 7-12 and is located in Hope, North Dakota.
I will try to write weekly as much as possible as I know many of you check up on us very often and THANK YOU so very much. I still love reading your notes and hearing about all the prayers.
Take care. Love, Lisa and Family

Monday, July 26, 2004 12:23 PM CDT

We were able to sleep in our own beds last night, it felt soooo good. Then we received a call shortly after 8 this morning -- please bring Keegan back down his cultures were positive. Arghhh! He is a very unhappy camper at this moment! Sounds as if he will be hospitalized "for a while". Will write more when I know more!
Love and hugs, Lisa

Tuesday, August 3rd
There was some difficulty scheduling Keegan's CT scan so that is what he is doing now at 6:00 p.m. We are staying across the street this time at Scandia they didn't have a room for us at Ronald McDonald HOuse. Cameron is with us too.
Because the scan was difficult to schedule -- it extended Keegan's admittance to the hospital. He checks in tomorrow morning. Will write more then. Lisa

Friday, July 23, 2004 10:49 PM CDT

Hi all
What a day it's been. I brought Keegan down this morning with a horrible case of the hives which came on about 4 am on Thursday morning. We spent most of the day in Dr. Kobrinsky's office getting Benadryl drip. We got back to mom's in Valley City around 4 and made a bite to eat (spaghetti of course!) -- all of a sudden Keegan broke out again so once again I was on the phone -- this time they wanted him in the hospital overnight!
Dr K was just in and decided to take a swab of Keegan's throat he's thinking that maybe this could be from Strep!!!!! We'll know more by morning. I just know that as soon as the IV benedryl wears off Keegan gets really restless and wants to itch! Hopefully the benedryl will allow him to sleep through the night. Will try to write more tomorrow if I can get at a computer!
Today is Saturday, 2:00 p.m. The dermatologist Dr. Blaine was in today. It seems as though Keegan has a severe allergy to Septra (sulfa) -- Dr K was in this morning and said "you're not going anywhere kiddo" Keegan just groaned. I am having an early supper with my cousin Charlotte who is in town for a while she does live in Okinawa during the school year, am looking forward to that. Take care all and Love you, Lisa

Tuesday, July 6, 2004 3:02 PM CDT

Hey all!
Hope you all had a safe and happy fourth of July! Keegan enjoyed his so very much. Lucas, Michael, Ryan, Craig, Reed, Deanna and friend all had a great time. As did their parents.
Keegan is back at Roger Maris Cancer Center getting more treatment today. He will have to have a neulasta shot and the nurses have arranged that he can have that in Valley City tomorrow afternoon.
He will have time off now until the 27th of July when he will have to have a CT scan and then the treatment process starts all over again! He's not looking forward to it.
Take care and God Bless.
Lisa

Tuesday, June 29, 2004 10:08 PM CDT

Hey All--
Keegan had treatment again today. He is feeling miserable but hopefully he will have a long enough recovery before Saturday. He has so been looking forward to the 4th of July with our family and Bonnie and Barb's. As a mom it's really tough as a mom to watch him going through these tough times. He will go back on Tuesday for the same treatment as today. Then it sounds like he will have to go through the scanning process again...he doesn't like that.
Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday. Lisa

Monday, June 7, 2004 10:11 AM CDT

Good Morning!
Keegan is still in the hospital. Keri had her play on Friday and when I went home, Cameron came back with me so he is spending today in Fargo with Keegan, while I attend my summer school at VCSU.
Summer is already busy for us. Keegan has several treatments scheduled and a Camp for he and Cam and Keri to go to NO PARENTS ALLOWED! He is anxiously awaiting the 4th of July as some cousins from Minnesota and Valley City come up and the boys all spend the weekend together. Lucas too.
Cameron has his lawn mowing business, will be attending Camp CyberPrairie at VCSU and when he's not with Dad on the farm he's with Mom in Valley City.
Keri, busy schedule! Summer Club in Cooperstown off and on during the summer: last week was the play and this week Randy Beard is there with music, she will attend Bible School the week of June 14, plays horseshoes, she's scheduled for Camp cyber prairie and cancer camp with keegan too. What a deal! She has been staying with her "other" family. I am so fortunate to have a friend like Denise Gruman where Keri feels like home! Thank you Denise.
Lucas is working at Kelly's Hardware again this year and is busy getting a car ready for the demolition derby during fair days. I think he's been staying with his dad or at the house.
As for me I will be attending summer school (staying with my Mom during the week and back home on the weekend), making up my incompletes from last semester, playing horseshoes, finishing the GCC annual, and working at Camp CyberPrairie. There are also a number of things I'd like to do around the house. I'd also like to enjoy my kids for the summer....
Love you all and will write after the next treatment at the end of the month. Keep on praying! Love, Lisa

Wednesday, June 2, 2004 12:52 AM CDT

Hi All!
Keegan has had one of five treatments and is feeling sort of "flu-ish" Last night he requested a 3 meat pizza corner pizza so I got a fresh made one from the Pizza Corner, needless to say it was already not hot when I got to Fargo. What a looooonnnnngggg drive, smelling but not tasting all the way from Valley City to Fargo!
Today he has requested ham, cheese and egg croissants -- so will attempt to get some from self serv in Cooperstown so the nurses can "nuke" them when he wants one.
Wonder what he'll crave tomorrow??
Love ya & Keep Up the Prayers,
Lisa

Saturday, May 15, 2004 9:44 AM CDT

Keegan had his fourth treatment yesterday and the doctor says he's doing so well. We also found out that a ten year old boy was diagnosed and at a much more advanced stage than Keegan. Keegan is extremely "blah" to put it eloquently. He doesn't have any pain or discomfort but he isn't feeling "up to par". Five more days left of the 2003-2004 school year and many more treatments to go.
Wishing you all rainy days and sunny days!
Lisa

Tuesday, May 11, 2004 6:24 PM CDT

Keegan has had an awesome month! He has even been able to compete in a couple of track meets and placed!
We are scheduled to be back at Roger Maris on Friday for another round of treatments.
Keep on a praying! Thank you!
Lisa

Monday, April 19, 2004 12:45 AM CDT

Hi,
Sorry I haven't had a chance to update you all for a while. Yesterday was the big "Community Fund Raiser" for both Jared and Keegan. This is the "Best Community Ever"!! Thank you to all of you -- the workers, the planners, the spectators! You are all awesome.
Keegan had a doctor appointment last Thursday to discuss his chemo for this week, it's a good thing too as he was scheduled for a 10 minute appointment and it should have been and really is a 10 hour appointment! What a difference. On a positive note, he got the go ahead to get back into track so he is all smiles, tired, but all smiles.
His next chemo then is on Friday. We plan on staying at the Days Inn Thursday Night and Friday Night. Will know more closer to the end of the week.
Bye for now and take care -- and God's Blessings to each and everyone of you who are so vigile at keeping us in your thoughts and prayers!
Lisa

Tuesday, April 13, 2004 11:34 AM CDT

Hi
Thanks to all who helped surprise Keegan yesterday! He had a great birthday and really appreciated all the people that showed up! Thanks again. He has a doctor appointment on Thursday, hopefully he'll be in school until then. Have a great week!
Lisa

Thursday, April 8, 2004 10:35 AM CDT

Keegan is back in school. He is extremely tired by night but he does a great job keeping up his spirits and teasing grandma and mom. He is still running a low grade temp between 99.5 and 100.5 but am told that is not much to worry about at this time as his counts are still good.
Have a Blessed Easter All!
Lisa

Monday, April 5, 2004 10:34 AM CDT

Keegan is home! I don't think he's feeling very perky but he's always glad to be home. Did you catch the story on WDAY on Thursday or WDAZ on Saturday? It was kind of cool. Lucas went back to Wahpeton yesterday and it gets harder every week. Mom got to come back yesterday, my brother Scott brought her to Cooperstown. Thanks for checking on Keegan. Keep those cards, letters and prayers a coming -- they are wonderful!

Friday, April 2, 2004 12:08 AM CST

COOPERSTOWN PLEASE CHECK OUT WDAZ TONIGHT -- IF NOT TONIGHT I'LL HAVE TO CALL THE WDAY REPORTER!
Keegan is doing well and the surgeon says the lump on his belly is nothing to worry about. He is getting out today but needs to stay around to get a shot tomorrow. He hopes to stop by the track meet tomorrow and be in school next week. We will be staying at the Days Inn in North Fargo tonight in room 119 at 232-0000. Thanks.
Mom will be in at least until tomorrow. Take care. Lisa

Thursday, April 1, 2004 2:48 PM CST

No surgeon yet -- but we do have a "star"...A WDAY reporter was here this afternoon and talked to both Jared and Keegan. Brandon and Kristina were here too. Check it out on WDAY Channel 6 at probably 6 and 10 and WDAZ Channel 8 at 10 -- I would appreciate it if someone could record it for us. Thanks a Million. Lisa

Thursday, April 1, 2004 10:56 AM CST

Good Morning

We finally got into a room -- 733 at Meritcare; and my mom is in 232. What a challenge getting both admitted at basically the same time in two different places! Mom had a chest tube put in so maybe she will finally feel better.

Keegan is in for his second round of chemo. The surgeon, Dr. Mistry will be in to see him also about his incision and his recent ultra sound.

He was given a PSII yesterday so is very involved into that -- go figure they thought he'd enjoy a Hunting game! Thank you so much!!!!!!!! What a kind and generous gift!

Will write again this afternoon when I have more information to share. Thank you. Lisa

Tuesday, March 30, 2004 1:47 PM CST

Hi everyone!
Keegan was in for an ultra sound today and although the tech could feel something he couldn't get it to show on the ultrasound. When I talked to the dr in Fargo yesterday she said that whatever it was could probably wait until we go there on Thursday. At 7:30 this morning Al was able to cut Keegan's hair as it has been getting really annoying for him when he has to always wipe off those little hairs...you know, it's like a new haircut all the time! WDAY contacted me and want to do a news article on Keegan and Jared! I will contact them when I'm in Fargo on Thursday!

Monday, March 29, 2004 11:00 AM CST

Hi -- Well he's back in school again and trying to catch up before he has to miss Thursday and Friday for the next round of Chemo. The hair is starting to get a bit annoying by falling out hair by hair, not in clumps, yet. He wants to get it shaved tomorrow. He's a bit uncomfortable because he is sore on his belly and we seem to feel a lump or swelling anyway. We will see Dr Coddington after school today.
For any of Keegan's classmates and friends if I could get your hotmail address so that I can let Keegan on the computer after school time to chat with you that would be great. I'll set one up for him when we get to fargo again on Wednesday. Thanks Lisa

Thursday, March 25, 2004 2:18 PM CST

Hey--
Keegan has been in school most of the week and is fairing okay. He is realllllllly tired at night though.
There were two speakers in the schools today talking about Keegan and his cancer. I think that really helped to answer a lot of questions.
He is scheduled to do the second round of chemo next week.
Take care. Lisa

Monday, March 22, 2004 10:02 AM CST

Keegan is in school today -- just for the morning I think -- he wants us all to thinks he's tougher than he should at times, but that's just me being a mom I think.
He has his blood drawn tomorrow morning so then we'll know what the counts look like for this week. They expect them to go down quite a bit. I know he wants to go hunting 'n stuff but with his incision still draining I guess "it's tough love time". Just say No!
Later. Lisa

Friday, March 19, 2004 11:18 AM CST

Good Morning!
Keegan is finally feeling better for the time being although he is tired more than he thought. Pastor Jerry is taking him out to lunch and he is really looking forward to that. We pray that he continues to feel "alright" so he will be able to have his next chemo treatment on schedule April 1 and 2. He let Grandma cut his hair so that it wouldn't be so very long and fall out in clumps. We can see his eyes for the first time in years! Later. Lisa

Tuesday, March 16, 2004 3:22 PM CST

Keegan has had a rough couple of days seems this newlasta shot exagerates the "growing pains" and he is often in extreme pain. He thought maybe he'd get to school part of a day this week but not so far. Maybe tomorrow!
So far he is appreciating the drop in company and phone calls thank you so much. His mom and family are appreciating everything else you all do too. It's great not to have to figure out what to make for supper!
Take care and God Bless.
Lisa

Sunday, March 14, 2004 2:18 PM CST

Hi--
I snuck away to finish up my taxes and thought I'd write a bit. We got back to Cooper yesterday and Keegan is feeling a bit fluish. Yesterday he got a newlasta shot which will excell his ability to reproduce white blood cells and not cause his counts to be low for so long. Today his legs, knees, shoulders and arms ache. It's hard not knowing what to do to help him.
Hoping he's feeling better as the days go on.
Love Lisa

Friday, March 12, 2004 9:45 PM CST

Hi!
Keegan is now done with his first round of Chemo and is not feeling very well tonight, naseau and the like.
We had to stay in Fargo tonight because he has to get a shot in the morning to boost his white counts faster. Apparently that will help him to recover his blood counts faster.
We will be going home tomorrow until April 1st unless he starts to run a fever before that. He will be getting blood drawn on a weekly basis right in Cooperstown.
God Bless and I will continue to update this site as things go along. I'll even try to get Keegan to write once in a while!
Love, Lisa

Thursday, March 11, 2004 10:41 AM CST

Here we are again. We're back in the hospital for Keegan's first round of chemo and education. Today and tomorrow are in here and we have to stay in Fargo because he has to have another medicine on Saturday morning. I wish I knew going it what was going to happen, seems hard to get any straight forward information!

As I get educated I will let you know what his therapy treatment will be.

Take care and God Bless.

Lisa

Wednesday, March 10, 2004 1:31 PM CST

Keegan is back for his bone scan today the last of the tests. Lucas is going to meet us for our doctor appointment at 3:30--
It's time to set up the plan.
Will write when I know more.

Love Lisa and Keegan

Monday, March 8, 2004 6:30 PM CST

It's a new week! Hopefully it will be one that will be a bit more positive than the last.

Keegan had his echo and a pulmonary test this morning and this afternoon he was seen at the Cancer Center because his inciscion is still oozing. They changed his dressing and his antibiotic, just in case. They also put a "line" in his port for his further tests. He had to drink that "ugly" barium for his body scan and believe me it was a challenge for him!

We are now "chilling out" at the Days Inn in North Fargo and awaiting the Bone Marrow biopsy tomorrow. Keegan told me this afternoon that "as time goes on it isn't so bad to go without food for so long!" When I asked if that was scary, he said "sort of."

Hugs and Kisses (especially to Cameron and Keri)
Lots of Love

Lisa and Keegan

Friday, March 5, 2004 7:27 PM CST

GOOD NEWS:
WE MADE THE TRIP TO FARGO AND KEEGAN GOT HIS STAPLES OUT TODAY AND THEY PUT ON BUTTERFLIES. HE IS FEELING QUITE WELL HE SAYS AND WAS ABLE TO SEE HIS SCHOOL FRIENDS FOR A BIT THIS MORNING.

NOT SO GOOD NEWS:
WE HAVE A DIFFERENT DIAGNOSIS
Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumor (Dez-Mo-Plas-Tik...):
A rare, aggressive cancer that usually affects young males and usually is located in the abdomen. APPARENTLY IT'S NOT AS HOPEFUL AS THE PREVIOUS ONE.

THE PLAN:
WE GO BACK TO FARGO FOR THE WEEK ON MONDAY WON'T REALLY KNOW TEST RESULTS AND TREATMENT PLAN UNTIL DR APPOINTMENT LATE ON WEDNESDAY.

WE WILL BE STAYING AT THE DAYS INN DURING THE WEEK AND I USUALLY HAVE MY CELL PHONE ON WHEN WE ARE THERE 701-789-0541 OR THE DAYS IN NUMBER IS 701-232-0000 AND I AM REGISTERED AS LISA WEBSTER-OTT.

WILL WRITE MORE AFTER MONDAY'S TESTS. HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND. WE ARE GOING TO DO NOTHING BUT GO TO CHURCH FOR GIRL SCOUT SUNDAY AND MAYBE GO TO THE MARCH MANIA CARNIVAL ON SATURDAY.

LOVE, LISA AND FAMILY.

Thursday, March 4, 2004 7:39 PM CST

We got home about 2 pm this afternoon. Keegan and I both thought it was a long way home. North/South roads weren't too bad but the east/west roads were a bit icky!

We go back for one appointment tomorrow then when we go on Monday we are staying in Fargo as there are several appointments each of Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and we see the doctor finally at 3:30 on Wednesday so we don't even know what kind of a future schedule we will have.

It has been determined that he does have rhabdomyosarcoma but I am unclear as to which of the three types he has. Thanks for everything you have done and are continuing to do (you know who you are). You are all appreciated more than words can say.

Love, Lisa

Wednesday, March 3, 2004 8:31 PM CST

Finally we got checked out of the hospital and checked in to Day's Inn on the North side of Fargo by the dome -- we got reservations at $25 a night thru the Ronald McDonald House. If they don't have room at the House we can stay here for that $25 a night.

We have to check in at the Roger Maris Cancer Center in the Morning to see what tests are scheduled for tomorrow. Will write more then. I've got to go and give Keegan his shot of heperine now.

Take care. Lisa

P.S. Luc came up to stay with us tonight, he said the North South roads weren't bad but the East/West roads were real slippery.

Hope we get back to Cooper tomorrow. Thank you to all of my extended family for caring for my mom and kids at home and for all the cards and letters.

Wednesday, March 3, 2004 11:01 AM CST

Today Keegan got notice that he would be getting to go home late this afternoon. But we will be staying at the Scandia (I hope) due to the weather.

We have to check out of the hospital following surgery and then come back to begin the testing or staging for the cancer.

As I find out information I will pass that along.

Take care. Lisa

Tuesday, March 2, 2004 11:05 AM CST

Good Morning!

Keegan is walking a little more sure today. The surgeon will be getting ready to release him within the next day or two. Then it will be to get his final pathology report and diagnosis so we can set up a plan. We may be home for a couple of days in between the surgical discharge and the cancer tests, staging and treatment regimin.

The nursing staff will come into the school to visit with students and faculty when Keegan is ready to go back to school. Since Keegan and Jerad have such different forms of cancer they will be separate visits.

The incision looks great, sounds like he'll be able to get back in the shower today.

Once the surgeon releases him he will need to be back and forth for many scans and other tests before his first chemo treatment.

The prayers are doing an excellent job. Thank you to our wonderful extended family!

Lisa

Monday, March 1, 2004 5:42 PM CST

We have a preliminary diagnosis however, the tissue was sent to the Mayo clinic and we have to wait for their opinion:

Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is a type of cancer that usually develops in your voluntary muscles and belongs to a broad category of tumors called soft tissue sarcomas. RMS can grow anywhere in your body, even in areas that do not normally have voluntary muscles but generally occurs in your head or neck, abdomen or one of your extremities.
A Few Interesting Facts…
• RMS is the most common soft tissue sarcoma in kids.
• Approximately 250 children in the United States are diagnosed with RMS each year.
• RMS is more prevalent in boys than girls and occurs less frequently in African Americans and Asians than Caucasians.
• About 60-70% of patients are less than 10 years of age at diagnosis but the second most common age is early to mid-adolescence.

Keegan was up and walking today. They pulled his catheter as well. However, now his temp and blood pressure keep going up. They are now trying to help him get rid of a lot of fluid to bring the bp down where it belongs.

Unfortunately, Keegan was diagnosed with the blood disorder that mom & I have as well which means his blood is normally extra thick.

Will write more when I know more.

Lisa

Monday, March 1, 2004 9:43 AM CST

Good Morning!

Keegan is upstairs watching Jumangi so I thought I'd come down to peds and write and print for him.

His fever seems to have finally broke!!!! And he farted (his words). All great news. Still waiting for the surgeon to come in.

Thank you to everybody who is holding things down on the homefront (you know who you are), the phone calls, the e-mails, the notes in the guestbook, and the cards and balloons and animals and movies and company! I don't have the right words except GRACIAS, THANK YOU, The love of family and friends is so overwhelming. You are each and every one of you appreciated!

Love Lisa

Sunday, February 29, 2004 8:32 PM CST

Well it's now the end of February, where did it go?

Tonight we moved Keegan across the hall to a room that is a little bit larger. After all when you move in a couple chairs for company, the PSII and a DVD player with tvs it becomes a little crowded in a standard sized room. He is now residing in room 733. Same area just directly across the hall. It's not quite as warm either maybe because it's on the North side of the building instead of the south.

He sat in the recliner for nearly three hours today and then played Spiderman for two hours. He was pretty tired. His temperature is spiking for the third time today. THey are trying to keep it down with tylenol. He started asking questions today, "what's a port?" "will I lose my hair?"

Thanks for all the phone calls and messages. It really makes his day when he reads from everyone.

Love you and hope to have more to report tomorrow.

Keegan had a pretty good night although he woke up this morning with the chills after 2 warm blankets and 4 others he's finally warming up his fever is at 103.0 and the surgeon isn't using antibiotic although they are waiting on some blood cultures.

Today will be mostly a resting day and waiting hopefully we'll have some of the test results back tomorrow. Take care.

Good Morning or is it afternoon??
Keegan had a fairly difficult night, his body did not want to produce enough oxygen on its own so he was hooked up to O2 during the night. Also he was given some medicine as his urinary output wasn't enough, all I am told is not uncommon in this situation. His temperature has been hovering right around 100 but as long as he can have his ice chips he's a happy camper.
He can accept visitors at any time but perhaps not for very long at a time. He asked for more chairs so that all would have a place to sit (always thinking about everybody else!)
The nurses told him that after a night of not much sleep they may limit the length of time of visitors.
Thanks again for all of your prayers and don't stop!

Wow! I just spoke with the onocologist. The transplant surgeon removed a football sized tumor, a tennis ball size tumor, and many other tiny one were found on the "fatty tissue" around the "guts" so that was all removed.
He just got back to his room and is in a lot of pain. A chemotherapy port was put in by his left shoulder.
I am told he is doing well and needs to recover from surgery to go to the next step.
After we get the pathology report we will know what type of cancer we are dealing with, it could be Ewings or a muscle cancer. These are the onocologists guesses but nothing is known for sure.
Keep on praying.

Keegan is (im)patiently waiting for 11 am when he will have his surgery.
He had to drink nearly a gallon of what he called "turbo lax" last night and it took him more than four hours, but he got the job done.
His spirits are great and we are praying for positive results.

We've seen the surgeon, Dr. Mistry and Keegan is scheduled for surgery tomorrow (Friday) morning at either 8:00 or 10:30 we do not know for sure the time yet.

We were able to see the x-ray from yesterday and the tumor goes from his left outside pelvic bone to the middle of the right pelvic bone.

Lucas and Brandon came up this afternoon and are spending time with Keegan.

Thank you for all of your prayers they always make me feel better because it's like a warm feeling all over.

Keegan is waiting to see his surgeon "Dr. Mystery" -- he got quite a chuckle out of that. He hasn't been able to eat since last night (this morning) about 1 a.m. and before that he had eaten a "light" lunch at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. According to Keegan "The worst part of being here is the gown."
More later. Lisa
