Hi everyone! When I read that Alex was taking swimming lessons for the first time, I had to write and say that Charles is taking his first swim lessons this year as well. We don't start until next week! Charles had been very very apprehensive as well, but this year we gently 'pushed' the issue because we feel it is important to learn water safety! So he will be one of the biggest and oldest as well, but you do what you can! I doubt they will even notice they are the oldest! I'm so glad you guys are having a great summer. We think of you all the time! Love, The MacWilliams - Therese, Jonathan and Charles

Barb and Craig

I always look forward to hearing how Alex is doing, as well as how the two of you are doing. It痴 truly inspiration to see how your faith has helped you through this process. It was good to see Alex when Craig brought him into work to see where his Dad hangs out every day. Alex really has grown and he was very talkative and inquisitive. And his red hearing aids are very cool looking. I also wanted to send along this note as a reminder that there are many of us thinking and praying for you on a daily basis.

I always enjoy reading your journal to see how things are going with Alex and both of you as well. The strength and faith that you致e shown is inspirational. It was good to see Alex when Craig brought him to work in December to check out where his Dad hangs out every day. He has really grown and he was quite talkative and inquisitive. I wanted to send this note to you as a reminder that your family is always in our thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for sending the handsome picture of Alex! After going online it was hard to believe the struggles he (and you both) have endured. He looks the picture of health and happiness. Must have something to do with the love and prayers his parents shower on him daily!! Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We'll make the 3 of you a constant in our prayers. Things are going well for us, Ken got a job with NC State Univ so we moved to Raleigh in July. My health is wonderful...11 year transplant anniv. this March. Our God is an awesome God...may you constantly feel His arms around you giving you strength. courage, and peace. Our prayer is that 2008 brings happiness and good health to Alex and many good times enjoyed as a family. Much love and prayers...Ken and Mary Lee Rich (formerly of Winston-Salem)

Hey Barb (Craig and Alex too!). It so great to hear all that Alex is able to do and experience now. What a trooper he is and what a blessing. We are so thankful that he is doing so well. It was interesting that you brought up the 3f8 group. I follow another little girl's webpage who is going through I believe her 3rd 3f8 treatment right now. She has reacted badly (HAMA) the times past so please keep her in your prayers. Her name is Sydney Sims and she is from FL but is treating at Sloan Kettering. Hello,

I check on Alex often but since I check on so many kiddos I don't take the time to sigh guest books too often. Jacob's teeth had major problems also. He hasn't had the four front upper teeth for a couple of years. We had a partial put in put his front teeth moved down a little and it started to hurt but still now sign of his permanent front teeth. All of his teeth are silver but he does well with it. These kids just don't ever get a break.

Happy Birthday, Alex! お誕生日おめでとうございます。(otanjyoubi omedetou gozaimasu) The BIG 5! I am Candace's friend who sent the little shinkansen, bullet train. My friends at the kindergarten here love trains, and they also love bugs. I rode the bullet train last week. Swoosh swoosh The train goes so fast that you can't look at any thing for more than a few seconds. And using the bathroom on a bullet train is an adventure! The local train goes much more slowly, and it's fun to watch people coming off and on. Come to Japan with Candace someday to ride all kinds of trains!

How wonderful that Alex was able to show his grief for things he cannot understand. I've always said that tears are given to us by God to help us go through one situation and onto another. Yes, you have had and still continue to have events come up that change your lives, but you are all a testatment of God's love and compassion. Thanks for continuing to share with us these tender moments. Have a great day Alex and keep enjoying the snow.

Zach kept thinking it was a movie...he kept asking, "When does the show start?" Thought of you guys lots while we were there! Lots of Thomas, Lionel, all sorts of stuff. One of thse days our little Engineers can play together...I'm sure that they'll let Zach and Alex play too.HEHE
Been kinda nutty here getting back in the swing of the school week after being off for two weeks.
Love and Prayers from the state to your left (if you are facing North...we're to your right if you're facing South HA!)

Barb & Craig - thank you SO much for keeping us up to date. You are all still in my prayers regularly - and we've added Sara Mae to our bedtime prayers. It's so great to see how gracious God has been! Sometimes I've wondered why God blesses some families going through these types of illnesses while others are not recovering as quickly, or not at all. I guess we cannot understand our Lord, but we can be thankful and praise him for all the ways in which he works to show he loves us and he is in control. What you have taught me is that we can KNOW he responds to prayers - especially heartfelt, desperate, and ongoing prayers. Blessings to your family in the new year.

Wow Barb! You are a regular clinician with so much knowledge on board. I have taken care of children with those ports such as Alex will have, and they do well. If you get "weak knee-d" about another new procedure, think back on all that you've had to learn how to do and you'll know just how firm a foundation you have. Have a great time in Disney World and trust God to work for you all that he has planned. If you go to Disney Main Street for shopping one day, they have a huge Lego store and other great stores of toys. Enjoy!

Barb & Craig - in my prayers for Alex this morning, I thanked God for you all - for revealing Himself through you - His Love, His Faithfulness, His Goodness - for teaching me to be patient and trust in Him. You are glorifying God through this experience. Who knows how many people you have shown the truth of God's love and power? Thank you for sharing so openly and honestly - you are the Salt & the Light. This morning, I re-read Psalm 23 and just kept going. When I got to Psalm 25 there were so many passages that reminded me of you - vs 10a - "All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful..."; vs. 15 - "My eyes are ever on the Lord, for only he will release my feet from the snare." Vs 16-17 "Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. The troubles of my heart have multiplied; free me from my anguish." I pray this for you! Praise God for you.

Alex, Barb, and Craig, you add so much to my days. The first thing I do in the morning is to see if there are any new entries in your website. It is a wonderful way to direct my prayers. I must admit that I often feel anguish as prayer is such a simple thing to offer, but as it's the season of Lent, and I'm reminded of the enormity of Jesus' anguish as he took on all of our iniquities. God certainly works through Alex in his child antics and expressions and lifts us all up. I hope you can feel some joy and peace today and be sustained by God's love and the prayers of many.

Hello to the Hargenraders!
I'm happy to hear that Alex's counts are holding steady.
I understand what you mean about once the Accutane rounds are over, and being apprehensive about not actively doing something to help fight it. As odd as this may sound, I've come to realize that when there is no more "doctors treatment" left, that's when some of the biggest active things takes place... Total Trust, Hope, Faith, Love, Prayer, and Peace.

It's wonderful for children to have imaginary friends. Our youngest daughter, Rachel (now married to Adam Grossman) was 4 1/2 yrs. younger than the next oldest child. I'm sure she was often lonely, and "Ralph" who I guess sat on her shoulder, was always there for her. We never seemed to mind it until one day when we bought a new car and had to meet with the finance manager. She walked over to his desk, crouched down, and let "Ralph" walk on to his desk. The guy was only about 22 and single and just remembering his expression, I'm surprised we were approved for a loan. You are right, children teach us so much. But also remember that Alex's demonstration of love, happiness, and where he gains his comfort from is a direct reflection of your nurturing. Just as Alex seeks out your comfort, you and Craig seek out comfort from the Lord. Does that make you any more weak or broken than Alex? Of course not! It is simply our human original sin. Your faith is not weak, just being strenghthened. So enjoy the sun today, enjoy God's promises and each other.

I check on you frequently and pray for you every day! I just wanted to sign on and try to encourage you to take those darn pills! I know it's no fun, and it's no wonder that you're sick of it, but there are ALOT of people who want you to get well! So, YOU GO BOY!!! I know you can do it!

Wow, Barb I am amazed at your strength, faith, and honesty. You are going through an incredible season right now to say the least. I check in often to note Alex's progress. I usually end up being encouraged by your word's. Thank you for sharing this with us. I am praying for a complete recovery but realize this; you will never be the same, not when you have been in the presence of our Lord. I pray that His love will continue to sustain you. Take Care, Lisa

Hi Barbara, we just returned home last night and wanted to say hello. It is so hard for me to get to a computer when I am away, I miss checking in on everyone. We pray for your all everyday. Mitchel's treatments are going very well, but the traveling is getting very old!!! But we do what we have to as anyone would. Hope you are having a great day! Love, Mary

Alex, Barb, and Craig, may the celebration of Christ's birth this week help ease your burden as we are reminded of God's greatest sacrifice and the eternal life in him we are assured of. I want to wish you a Christmas full of joy and a new year full of blessings. God must love you all so much. Alex, have a great time opening presents and spending time with your parents and maybe some other family and friends too.

Prayers for you? Absolutely, but because they continue. Alex and you are never far from my thoughts. Wonder if God chuckles at the volume of prayers on your behalf on any given day. Psalm 96 is good to read today. Love you all.

Hello Barb, Craig and Alex! Barb, when I left your house a few weeks ago, a song came on the radio that I haven't heard for years and years. I'm not sure of the exact name but it was by Boston and they kept singing, "Don't look back, don't look back". Strangely I was comforted by it, to me it was almost as if a Higher Power was saying, "Look ahead because wonderful things are in store" for the future. I just wanted to share that with you because when I left that exact song was playing and it gave me so much hope for your family. PS - let us know when Jonathan can help Craig with the basement!

Hey Guys, Sorry it has taken me so long to write to you. I think of you all often, and pray for Alex every day. He is a strong little guy, and will make it through anything that comes his way. Just know that Jordyn is keeping a close eye on him, and will make sure he can handle everything that is thrown his way. You guys hold a special place in my heart, and I hope that one day soon, we can all get together and talk about the good times the kids shared in the hospital. Love you guys. Lisa

Thank you Barb for letting us know about all the other children you mentioned, and the difficulties of their lives right now. You are right....so many to pray for. It is truly amazing, that we have an almighty God who knows about each person, even the numbers of the hairs on their heads. It is comforting to turn over all to Him. Our shoulders are simply too miniscule. Love to Alex and to you all. I certainly counted your accounts of Alex and the humility you've taught us all as a great blessing on this Thanksgiving. God bless you all.

I know that it might sound strange, but try your county's health department for flu shots. I know here that they have them sometimes...or at some of the pharmacies. I'll pray for flu shots for you and continued healing for Alex the Engineer!
Love to you all!

G'day
Just wanted to offer you support, my little Kaitlyn had the very same issues during and after treatment.
These issues which we used to call "Kaitlyn moments" disappeared as she started to feel better within herself.
She was especially prone to MOMENTS whilst she was taking accutane.
Hang in there, it will get better.
