Hi Meta and Mark, I think of you both very often and hope you are enjoying this awesome autumn! Hello Meta!
I thought of you tonight.

My wife came back to Nisswa tonight after a fun day of visiting her "city" friends in Minneapolis.
She had a wonderful time and was telling me about how all the individual women she has developed deep friendships with through the years are now cross-pollinating and are developing deep friendships amongst one another. Women that Tami has known for over 10 years are just now becoming very close. And all because she brought them together. I told her that she has given those women a gift.
And I want to tell you that you have done this same thing for me. You have given me a gift. You brought Dianne Kruse into my circle several years ago with the TestQuest acccount. While we have always been business friends, it was more a client/consultant relationship. We are just now starting to forge a new level of friendship that I truly value. And I want to thank you for that, my friend. It is a blessing. And so are you, Meta. I enjoyed your most recent posting and pictures very much. (You and I can hang out anytime; I have really white legs too. :-) Although my inseam is 32, not 42 like yours, so then again maybe we can't hang out. Hello to Coach Mark. XO XO Love and hope, Scott Kuehl
PS I love the shot of your farm. It is beautiful.

Hi Meta,
I enjoyed reading your upbeat message today and know that you're enjoying life in every way. The pictures are precious - the area is beautiful, Sundance is a grand horse that looks like he lives up to his name, and you and Mark look like real "country folk" on your tractor. Love, Kathy

Hi Mark and Meta. Is it true that you are home, Meta. We took grandkids back to Rochester yesterday. Dave called the hospital to make sure which one you were in as we were going to stop in and check on you. They told him you had been discharged the day before. We were very happy for you.
Good grief, it was 57 degrees and pouring rain up there. We got back home after midnight and it was 78 and very humid here.
Will check in on you later. Take good care. Love, Connie

Hi, Meta. Just back from the Femmes trip in Canada and checking in. We saw four moose and multiple bald eagles -- but no bears! I wore one of the bracelets you gave me for my birthday some years back, and my paddle wore the other one. Every time I glanced at my wrist or paddle, you were in my thoughts and prayers. Glad to know the fever's been held at bay and you've started chemo. I look forward to speaking with you soon! Love from your aging Femme friend (i.e., I think I am too old for these trips), Mary

Hi Mark & Meta,
We've been following your journal, and hope that you will be able to continue with chemo and get all of this behind you ASAP.
It's hard to believe it's been just about a year since we turned over the reins of Brookside Farm to you. We have found a source of free-range chicken eggs, and are regular customers of the farmers market in Wanamingo. Not quite like our own eggs and veggies, but close enough.
Like you, we know the 10th floor in the Gonda building quite well. Dick is doing OK. He has had several changes in medication this past year (none of them cheap). He's doing a lot of puttering around here. Things get done a little sooner when you have 1/3 of an acre, rather than 45.
Good luck tomorrow on your appointment. You are frequently in our thoughts and always in our prayers.

Hi Meta,

So good to get an update!! I've been checking daily, waiting to hear good news after your last hospitalization. I'm glad you are back to enjoying your home and surroundings. When you think of how many people take those things for granted it makes me appreciate your grateful attitude even more. No one should take any day (or even moment) for granted. It's all a gift from God that we should enjoy to the fullest. You are doing that better than anyone I know. Keep it up, warrior woman!!

I was hoping to meet you at the reunion this year. I didn't care if your husband came since I spent too much time with him over the years at the pool, the swim team and on the motorcycle. Someday I will tell you some stories about the big guy-once I'm sure that the statute of limitations have run. I heard that, like me, he married someone smarter (and better looking) than he is-always a good idea if you want to stay out of trouble. He had a problem with that and if not for my guidance in the early years who knows what would have become of him. We missed you at the reunion and I hope we can meet soon. Our prayers are with you both.

Hi,

We've never met, Meta, but I've hear wonderful things about you from Connie and Dave. I was hoping to meet you at the CCHS '67 class reunion. It was fun, but would have been better if you and Mark could have been there.

It's amazing how often I think of Mark. It would be a lie to say it is because of all of the great times we had in plays, etc. at CCHS (although we had a lot of fun!) In reality, I often think of him as I walk down my staircase.

When we needed a larger, more "kid-friendly" house 24 years ago, I wanted to to buy an old one and Steve wanted to build a new one. Steve won...but we bought lots of architectural antiques & made our new home look older. One of the pieces we bought was a chandelier from Mark's parents' home in Chariton. We hangs in our entryway.

Your home sounds absolutely wonderful...and a perfect place to relax, be at peace, and focus on living. I have a friend who has battled cancer for several years. She has given me a new perspective on life. She tells me that we are all living..and are all in the process of dying. And the quality of our days depends on the side on which we choose to focus. A great perspective, in my view.

I hope we have the opportunity to meet some day. Best wishes to you and to Mark. We missed you at the reunion.

So good to hear about all the home and yard improvements. I'm glad you have a peaceful place carved out in this fast-paced world. My apartment is very peaceful but also very confining. I would love to have some land to roam. We always did when we were growing up. Hope you find good homes for the kittens. I would guess Jill will want one. God bless,

Hi there. I came in a few minutes ago to check on you and low and behold there you were........your update was a gift. I wanted to keep reading and learning about chickens, hearing about the kittens, landscaping ideas.....so many good things going on around you. One time you mentioned to us something about being wrapped in feathers.......well, now, it has kind of come true. I love the idea about a dozen eggs for the people coming your way.
Scott and Jolie got married this weekend. They have told Sam (her little 5 year old boy) that he can have a kitten. They live in Rochester, so maybe that would work out with one of yours. I know any one of them would be perfect and it would be fun coming from your farm.
God Bless you and keep you safe. Love, Dave and Connie

Hi Meta. Finally used that link your friend sent to get to your site. Isn't Caringbridge just the best! So you're on Taxol and I'm on Carboplatin, both of us getting some of the same side effects (though I'm not losing my hair this time), low white counts, nausea, tiredness.... you know how it goes! We get through it in the hopes that the drug is kicking the you-know-what out of these tumors! I go for my 2nd Carbo tomorrow, if my white count is where it should be, and then we'll see how the w/e goes. So meantime you take care, rest, read, enjoy the animals and great outdoors, and hopefully we'll see you at the next group.

Hi Meta and Mark,
I am thinking about you two and praying for you. Meta, I had lunch with Dianne Kruse the other day and we talked about you. Don't worry. All good. No string bikini talk or anything like that. I also sent you a little email today. I think you'll get a smile out of it. We're moving up north for good. You are an inspiration to me, Meta. Life is so wonderful and so worth living and fighting for. I wish you great strength for this next surgery. All my best. Love, Scott PS. How do you like my new address?

Meta,
My sister, Mary Lilja, just sent me the link to you caringbridge site. Although it has been years since we have seen each other (at the Marsh), I think about you often and have been getting updates through Mary. I will continue to send you healing energy, and think of you enjoying doing the things you love to do, especially paddling on beautiful rivers!

All my best to you as you head into this surgery. Maybe one of the biggest "rapids" in your life, but I have faith you will get through this one.

Peace,
Jane Kay

Meta, I am so sad to hear that the oral chemo didn't work, but like you I have my hopes up for the next drug or the next one after that. Your attitude toward this challenge shows the beautiful person we have always loved is intact and I am so grateful!! You and Mark are so precious to us...I can hardly wait to come down & visit. Besides, we need to meet Mark's new horse and perhaps be introduced to any new crop of kitties that you might get this spring! :-)
With our love and prayers always,

Hi Meta,
Oh crap! I wish the doctor's suspicions hadn't been right. But your decision to take the pills and delay the chemo so you can enjoy springtime in bluff country sounds wonderful. It was good to hear that you are writing again. It's been a joy to read your vivid descriptions of your new place in the country. It sounds as if truly supplies a much-needed healing balm. Keep up the warrior spirit! You're in my prayers.

Hi Meta! We haven't met yet, but I think we know about each other, I'm Ann's friend in Seattle. You are such an awesome writer, I am wow-ed every time I read an entry. It soooo sucks you are going through this, but maybe one gift is that you get to share your writing and your thoughts with those of us who might otherwise not know you! Your house and the move seems like wonderful life changes. How lucky you are to have a house in the country and horses and all those trails! I am coming to MN in November, and would love to meet you in person, if you are up to it and Ann and I can make the drive! You might also know that I work for Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and I know of some ovarian trials, if you are ever interested in leaving those horses for a little while. I can even offer you a free, private place to live! In any case, I wish you all the best in this next, new chapter of the chemo/cancer journey, Jennifer Revall

ok Meta - I'm coming out of the closet as a Christian. I believe God is talking to you as I'm positive he's talked to me. I don't think anyone can have the "peace and tranquility" that you've experienced without God in their life. God came into my life about 3 years ago when I invited him and everything changed. I try very hard to listen to what God wants me to do. I hope this will help you believe that God is with you and loves the joy you feel and express in your writing. You are so special.

Meta and Mark, We've been thinking about both of you and sending lots of strength your way. The farm sounds fabulous and full of healing spirits. We'll look forward to the photos. Meta, I read about this combination of chemo drugs, and you are certainly getting the most up-to-date and effective treatment. I'm so sorry about the horrible days but I'm sure you're right and the battle against the cancer is fierce. So tell us more about the good days and your rides and your farm. Meta. I was so happy to hear about your great 3-month check up. You will be a wonderful guide for so many women and continue to give them so much hope. My little friend Sue needed someone like you. She was a nurse practioner working for ob-gyns here and did not recognize the symptoms on herself. We went shopping for jumpers with no waists. She had always been such a little person and all of a sudden a large stomach and indigestion. By the time, she was diagnosed, she was stage IV. After much surgery, chemo and everything else, she just could not get into remission. Her CA-125 never went below 300. Thank goodness, Meta, you are in remission. You are in the best care and so fortunate to be in Mayo's care. God bless you. Love, Connie

Meta, you Warrier Woman you!!! I am so happy to hear about the book and the class. You have a lot to say and you say it so well. I know it will be a best seller. I've read Lance Armstrong's book and it was wonderfully inspiring. The quote was so perfect for what you've been going through and, yes, you are admired. No one wants to be part of the cancer club but it does bring out the "warrier woman/man" in those of us that go through it. I'm thinking of you and glad things are going so well. God bless.

Memory problems? Welcome to my world. I practically have to write an "R" on my right hand to help me. What was I saying? My personal nightmare is movie trivia. When I try to talk about a movie I've seen I spend a lot of time trying to remember the names of the actors and what other movies they've been in. It drives me nuts. Estrogen helps with cognitive thinking and when it's gone (I had a hysterectomy in 1989) it leaves you fuzzy headed. Isn't it amazing that our body produces such a powerful drug. I am looking forward to your entry saying you are done with chemo. Have you considered writing a book?

Dear Meta,
How wonderful to read your recent entry. You are an inspiration, and we're cheering on your continued progress. Here's to hoping that the taste of chocolate isn't tainted by this round of chemo and that Maisie never tires of retrieving! We're thinking of you and praying for those numbers to continue to drop (if they can go any lower!).

Sure like the great news in this latest report. Your experiences in farming and conoeing last weekend sounded like a lot of fun - you deserve it!! However, Mark didn't grow up in a "rural area" - it was the county seat town of Chariton on Auburn Avenue - at least a mile from the nearest farm! With your 4-H training, you were the one who helped solve the calf's problem. Congratulations! Looking forward to hearing about your adventures over the 4th!!!!

As I read about your concerns for the future I get a feeling for how unsettled your life is right now. It is such a reminder to all of us that we are not in charge of our destiny. We all need to live our lives as if today were the last. Only then will we fully appreciate and enjoy what life has to offer. I am praying that you have peace of mind in knowing that you are doing everything you need to do to get better.

Thinking of you often. Meta you might ask them to put chocolate into the the chemo, it doesn't make it any better but it does get a rise from the nurses. After the chemo is over, you have to come to CO and I'll give you a white water ride in my drift boat. We might even catch a fish or 2. Thanks for the updates. M&M: Hope you got up to the Snake yesterday ~ it was a beautiful day to mark the start of your spring season at the cabin! Thought of you often, especially when I spotted a bald eagle overhead on the way down to Maiden Rock. Here's hoping you have a good meeting at the U tomorrow, Meta. Love, Mary

Hi Meta and Mark,
I've been thinking of you both A LOT....and sorry, Meta, that you have to go through all this. I bet you never thought you'd be celebrating 'passing gas'! We had a wonderful time with Cindy - such a great host and tour guide. Praying for your strength and health! Martha

Hi Meta,
It's spring break for our kids, so I am writing this from our place up north. I would think of you anyway here, Meta, because you and I are both vacation real estate junkies :-). I would be remiss if I did not congratulate you on your flatulence. You and Mark are in our thoughts and prayers! May God continue to give you strength, my friend.

Hi Meta,

Jill has been keeping me updated. I will continue to send positive mojo your way. You and Mark were so gracious when Janet and I came to dinner last spring and I really enjoyed spending time with you. If you have any time to read, Michael Creighton has a new book out called "State of Fear". I think you would really enjoy the story. Sending all excess positive energy your way.

Hi.Turns out to be a good thing we aren't teaching the whitewater class this year! We'll be home from CA in a couple of days and will be in touch. Let us know how my part-time schedule and Scott's job and commute past GV can help you. We're here for you.

Hi Meta!

I'm a Honeyweller who worked in your group and then later did the payment handling of your Merlin Communication invoices to Honeywell. I just heard about you today. Stay strong and positive and take each day as it comes. I will be thinking of you.

Contined strength to you!

Hi Meta,

I don't know if you remember me or not, but I work at Honeywell and remember working with you from time to time. I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer Stage 3c in 1997. I went thru surgery and had a complete historectomy at age 40 and went thru 6 rounds of chemo/cisplatnum/taxol. I am happy to say I am still in remission and have never had a reocurrence! So stay positive - good luck to you and if you ever want to talk, just let me know.

This is definitely a sentence I never expected to write: "Meta, I am so happy to hear (at a distance, and thankfully only via the Internet) you have passed gas!"

Okay, that's one benchmark on the way back. Keep faith ... and keep them coming.
