Happy birthday Spencer!

It's cloudy here so I missed the candles the angels lit in the sky for you.

Today is also Mamie's Mommy's birthday.

Tell Mamie and Jesus I love them. I know they'll both be at your party.

Thinking about you lots.... hard to believe he would soon be 12. My heart still breaks for you and all you have been through and I wish I could make it all go away. I still remember this day 6 years ago as vividly as I remember your phone call the morning he was born. Let me know if you want to get out of the house for a while in these next few days and we can go do something.

Dear Julie,
My heart breaks for you with the suffering you have endured losing your precious Spencer and Rob. My daughter Hannah (aged 7) lost her life to Choroid Plexus Carcinoma on 13 March 2010. Like you, we miss her dreadfully. You are to be admired for your positive outlook on life. Cherish what we had - not what we have lost. We have been fortunate to have these beautiful people in our lives. Spencer appears to you as a butterfly and Hannah appears to me as a feather. Isn't it lovely knowing they are close. I bet Spencer and Hannah are pals in heaven. Wishing you peace and good health for your future.

I used to read your journal about Spencer because Gage is my Great nephrew, and so had keep up with some of the lil cancer guys and just had gone on to some of them tonight, saw that Rob had gone to be with Spencer and had to call Heather to see if it was really true. We are so sorry for your family.

Hi Spencer!

Has Mamie told you that you and her Mommy have the same birthday? Mamie got to Heaven about two and a half months before you did, and maybe you've been too busy playing with all the other children to think much about earthly birthdays during those four years. I'm sure you had a spectacular party each year for all the children born that day, so maybe she thought to mention it then.

You understand that our time in this troubled life is so short compared to eternity where there is no pain, fear, or sadness. It seems like a long hard wait to us, but we'll join you one day.

Julie and Rob,
Haven't signed for awhile but seeing butterflies made me think of you and your family. I got some flowers this last week that are suppose to attract them so.. my boys love them alot too. Speaking of mud puddles, (last guestbook entry) there is nothing better than watching kids in the puddles make a huge mess and then joining in with them great theraputic fun! It sounds like Spencer was very adventerous, what little boy isn't? Believe me had plenty of rain to play in them and watch the birds take a bath not to mention our pup laying in them and you have to bathe him too right along with the kids(not all at once) Take care and enjoy the sun and the pool, we have to get a new pool the pup broke ours! Prayers and thoughts going your way!

Hadn't taken the time to check in on Spencer's site for a long time. Had to laugh when you said you and Rob shared funny stories about taking Spencer along with you, having him dumped upside down on a cattle-moving expedition, etc.

Ken and I just had a similar conversation last week. We were sharing many of our memories of taking Spencer different places. His trout fishing trip to Roaring River, throwing rocks in the lake, wearing out the mud puddles on the lawn mower, going to see the calves at the dairy, enjoying our camping trips and his love of makin' molasses; chewing the sap in the cane and being the biggest duck in the puddle while the guys were cooking it down.

I don't think I have ever seriously told you how grateful we are to you and Rob for allowing us to have him so much and take him so many, many places. All of those trips gave us the experiences that we so cherish today. And, even though we still miss him every day--we also have so many fun times to remember and chuckle about.

Thank you. Our love to both of you.

Hi Rob and Julie,
It for some reason just dawned on me tonight that it was Spencer's month...just wanted you to know we are thinking of you and will say some extra prayers for you all tonight. I hope things are going well and you are enjoying your pool time and the crops and animals are doing well too. I had the fun experience of going to the ER tonight to have a fish hook dug out of my toe...Beau was fly tying and one got lost in the carpet. I guess I found it. I was only 25 years behind on my tetanus so I guess it was my reason to get hooked...wouldn't change it for the world though. We know how precious our sweet children are. I have the same feelings about Gage as you do your sweet little Spencer. Sometimes feels like yesterday and sometimes almost feels just feels unreal. Looking forward to when we can all be together again. Hoping time flies until that day. Great big angel mom hugs to you both.

Their death casts a shadow over our entire lives and the days of this grief are so long. It is impossible for a mother to express in words all the emotions involved in carrying and birthing a child. We who share these special tears, know that there is absolutely no way to express what we feel when they die. I am grateful that the cries from our hurting souls are heard by a God that understands our hurt. You are in my thoughts and prayers as you painfully relive Spencer's journey to Heaven. I pray that though the memory be so unbearable, the joy of knowing that Spencer is in Glory and awaits for you there continue to fill you with our Lord's blessed peace and hope.

Saw your post on Mason Brown's site. and just wanted to stop by and say hi. As it approaches two years, I know how tough it can be! I lost my precious daughter four years ago and some days the pain is still as fresh as if it were yesterday. Time does help us to cope...and the beautiful memories start to outweigh some of the sad ones. Still, it is a tough time and my heart and thoughts are with you.
I had more years with my girl than you got with your adorable Spencer, but the hole thier loss leaves in our hearts is just as big.

Dear Mr. Hallmark,

I am writing to you from heaven, and though it must appear,
A rather strange idea, I see everything from here,
I just popped in to visit, your stores to find a card,
A card of love for my parents, as this day for them is hard,
There must be some mistake I thought, every card you can imagine,
except I could not find a card, from a child that lives in heaven,
they are still a parent too, no matter where I reside,
I had to leave, they understand, but oh the tears they cried,
I thought that if I wrote to you, that you would come to know,
that though I live in heaven now, I still love my parents so,
they talk with me, and dreams with me, we still share laughter too,
memories are our way of speaking now, would you see what you can do?
my parents carry me in their heart, their tears they hide from sight,
they plants flowers in my garden, there my living memory dwells,
they writes to other grieving parents, trying to ease there pain as well,
so you see Mr. Hallmark, though I no longer live on earth,
I must find a way, to remind her of her wondrous worth,
they need to be honored, and be remembered too,
just as the children of the earth will do,
thank you Mr. Hallmark, I know you will do your best,
find a way to tell them, how much they mean to me,

Boom, Sorry we missed the open house, you both and Spencer are never far from our thoughts. This move to Junior High Math is a real challenge, it has been a long, long time since I did Algebra I, it is taking alot of time and energy that at this point in my career, I was not sure I still had. But the kids are good and now that I am into it a little further I am starting to enjoy the challenges it presents. The behavior of the students is much better than I expected, but I think my reputation preceeds me and they know I just won't put up with much. Just got home to start the holiday break, am looking forward to the time. All of the kids are away this year for the day, so we will celebrate New Year's weekend. It will be a quiet day, but that is not all bad either. Much love to you and have a good one.

Hello Rob & Julie!

Just a little note to let you know that we are thinking of you this holiday season and wishing you all the best. We were so happy to see you a few weeks ago and are glad everything is going so well. Now that harvest is over, you guys have a little more time to sit back and relax!

Hi to you all over there, it's lovely to hear your news and to know that you are getting on alright and bringing in the harvest. I often think of you all as you have been through and are going through the loss that we went through with our grandson Marcel Michael Hill. I'm his Nanny. Our daughter Sam (Mar's Mum), has just had another baby boy Amari he's eight weeks old now and doing fine. We are all trying to move on and take each day as it comes. I just wanted you to know that we still say prayers for you and think of you all, especially at this time of year, when we dont have our special little boys with us. I love the pictures. Love the picture of Rob and Spencer in the combine. That's one I hadn't seen before. Glad to know you have harvest behind of you, and while I know having all of the grain makes it more work--isn't it great to have all that work to do? Much better than those 50 bu. corn yields.

Love to both of you.

Julie, well fall harvest brings many thoughts to my mind. I am pleased to know that you and Rob are enjoying each day and finding pleasure with family life and friends. Somehow I just know that seeing baby pigs and calves must bring a kindred spirit to your hearts. With the fall leaves fading and winter approaching I'll have to work at keeping my spirit bright. May you continue to find many blessing this Thanksgiving and on into the Christmas season.

I can't believe I've found another child who had a choroid plexus carcinoma. My 2 yr old daughter was diagnosed in November 1993 and passed away 17th March 1994. I live in Australia and I was told the odds of her getting the tumour were astronomical. Don't know anyone else in Australia whose child had one. I know what you all went through and I'm sure your Spencer and my Anneliese are dancing in heaven together.

Rob and Julie,
I hope this weekend was great with Spencer's farm day. I am sure it was great and all the little kids loved it. I love your quilts. I got one cut out a couple weeks ago from some of Gage's outfits and still need to sew. Your friend did a wonderful job. I think I bought the exact same cloud fabric for Beau's airplane quilt as the balloon one of Spencer's. Pretty close anyways. I am waiting for scraps to do Beau's as his will be appliqued airplanes and want to use as much of the big pieces as I can. Glad to hear farming and school going well. We are doing pretty good around here too. Actually had the adoption agency call with a baby this week but unfortunately sounded like it had a medical condition that would take us down to many similar roads already traveled so we said no. Our home study isn't done yet and guess she didn't hear the HEALTHY being the most important factor of all for us. I explained how I have been away from Beau for about 1 year completely through all Gage's cancer and relapse and just wouldn't do it again. So, hopefully our home study gets completed in the next month or so and then a healthy baby comes along...until then, we are doing fine and trying to enjoy our time together. Hope the holidays bring you many smiles to go with the tears. Hugs from Nebraska.

It's Monday night football and Tony is loving his big screen TV. Of course, I'm in need of something else to do because you know I don't do sports! I'm pleased that you are enjoying your new job. We are getting by at the high school. I still need someone to laugh with; our classroom is very quiet this year. So many of my friends took wings and flew the past few months. Change makes us grow. Love the pictures on the site right now. The one of him at the fair. showing his pigs is one of my all time favorites. Memories stirred by all of our wonderful photos of Spence are such a treasure. As the post on this site says, mention of his name and his photos may bring tears to the eyes but they also stir wonderful memories and bring many smiles.

What great times we shared with him. There is hardly ever a day go by that Gwampa and I don't mention Spence and think about something fun that we shared with him. I will forever be grateful for all of the great times you and Rob allowed us to share with him. Absolutely the best time of our lives. Love to all of you. Gwandma Robin and Gwampa Ken

It really has become our families last hurrah to summer also. At this point it looks as if we will all be there together. And to think it began with four little kids sleeping on the floor of a pop-up camper so very many years ago. As you say, time does move on. We love you both and think of that "Spencer boy" often.

I feel horrible that I have not signed earlier. I saw you had signed on Jason's website, and felt terrible that I had not posted. The new pictures are so wonderful. It makes me happy and sad at the same time. I wish I could have gotten to know your sweet boy. We have so many kids in the yard in the summer, and seeing his picture with the rabbit always makes me think of how much fun he would have had with my son with the beagles. I hope you are well, and I am sending deep prayer up to you tonight. Won't we all have a grand time getting together in heaven? I hope Spencer has a picnic table waiting for us all. I don't know what I'd do without my boy, so I cannot even express how much I wish I could give you all the strength in me to help. I really wish I knew more to say, but you are so in my prayers.

I wish I could tell you it gets easier . . .but I have not found it to be so. What it does is get deeper and richer and more meaningful and becomes something beautiful that our Lord can use to draw us and others to Himself. May His presence be real to you in a very special way. May you know His loving arms are holding you tight and that both He and Spencer smile upon you.

Rob and Julie - our thoughts and prayers are with you both this week and always. While we were at the cemetary last Saturday Luke looked up at the sky and then looked at me and said, "Mom, do you think Spencer and his angel friends have cloud pulling contests on their tractors? You know, instead of pulling the wagon like I did, they could race to pull the clouds across the sky. I know Spencer would win!" I couldn't help but smile. Hi there,
We are friends of Hultquists in Nebraska and we checked in on your family regularly as Spencer's battle was winding down. You continue to be on our minds this summer as the anniversary of his death comes up. We also thought of you as we drove to St Louis right after Memorial Day and got to stop in Cameron. We had a picnic lunch in the park and as the kids played on the playground I thought of your family and the time you must have spent there, too. You have a beautiful town, and from what we read of the people supporting you, it's full of wonderful folks!

She brings him up once in a while and always talks about how she misses him. Usually, she includes Dante (our dog) and how Spencer and Dante are probably playing in heaven. We think about you lots and have intentions of calling, just aren't as good at getting it done as we should be. Maybe we will stop in and surprise you one of these days! Have a great week!

Enjoyed your post Julie. I'm glad you are able to visit the hospital, nurses and Doctors. They need that from Mothers like you. Our Pascale's Pals auction was Thursday night and we raised about $80,000 to help children and their families still in this battle. We have new projects and ideas each year that take a lot of money.
Does your summer involve classes again this year?
Have a Happy Spring!
Love, Karen

Hi Julie and Rob...stopping by to say hi. I hope you both had a good Easter. Floating in the pool huh....sounds quite relaxing and good to me. I might have to do the same. Hope your spring is shaping up well and the "farm stuff" is going good. Think of you often...knowing our boys are in Heaven free of pain and having a great time!

Julie and Rob,

I just wanted to stop by and let you know that I was thinking about you, and to ask you to keep a family from Chillicothe in your prayers. One of Marsha's students has been diagnosed with Burkitts Lymphoma in stage 4. I hope that you two are doing well. I can't wait to see what the beautiful butterflies look like that Spencer sends our way. God bless!

Julie and Rob,
I saw your post to lisa on the PBT Yahoo support group and found your site. Spencer was a handsome son, your strength is an inspiration to me as I was reading your journal. I also have a son with cancer.

Dear Julie,
Just sitting here thinking of you and all of the events of the past few years. Life is truly a journey to be lived with love and strength. May you continue to have both. Know that you have many who care and are wishing you the best.

Julie, I still enjoy your updates. We too are having those cute little calves, and I can just imagine Spencer's grin at the one you described for him. We just came from a district game where our boys beat Glasgow, now we have to get past Salisbury, but that may not happen. I'm so glad you and Rob make it to so many games. And you had dinner at Spencer's favorite restaurant when in KC.
Love and prayers, Karen & Doc

Oh, that wonderful smile along with the "Love ya, Gwandma." What wonderful memories we all have. Just doesn't seem possible that it has been nearly 8 months. Love to you and Rob--I'm sure Spence is watching that cute new calf and grinning from ear to ear!

Have a good day. Will catch up with you soon.

As I finished looking thru the Kids Need Prayer site, Spencers glowing smile flashed through my mind. So I knew I needed to stop by to say hi!!! I often stopped by to check on Spencer and sometimes signed in before Spencer went to be with Jesus. I still stop by occassionally and ask God to give you comfort and peace. I will continue to stop by!! And try to sign in more often!! Love In Jesus,

I thought of Spencer when we saw the rainbow at our house last week too and wondered whether you got to see it. It was double at our house and you could see both ends of both rainbows. It was the most beautiful rainbow I have ever seen - really amazing. Still think about you lots and check the web site often. Love to see the new pics too. I can tell that Spencer was having a great time snuggled up with Rob in his chair in the new picture - it doesn't get much better than that. Will try to catch you sometime soon.
