Liebe Maddy and Rick,
I am deeply thrilled for you and young Alexander. It is obvious to see your calm and ability to handle surprises will do you in great stead with a very mobile baby. God's blessing and peace be upon you.

We're eagerly awaiting the arrival of your family. I too wish you a smooth flight with helpful flight attendants. Will Amina be on the same flight?

Give us a buzz when you're ready to receive visitors. I'll keep an eye out to see if anyone's stirring around your place...I know you'll need a little time to decompress from 24 hours on a plane.

Love,
your neighbors

What fun it has been to follow your journey, knowing that we will be making a similar one to China soon. We just await the date now. Our little girl is almost 2. Imagine a 14 hour plane trip with a 2-year old! Something like 24 hours with a 9-monther!

An early welcome back to Missouri!

Maddy and Rick and Alex,
Regina called from Darmstadt (20 ml outside of Frankfurt), hoping that you will spend the night with them on your way back to the US.It is raining today in Los Gatos, a warm, wonderful spring rain. Wish Alexander could run through the puddles with me. We'll buy him some red rubber boots, or let him choose his own color. I bet he loves blue, like his Omi (Libra, remember???)

Good luck on the plane ride home! Ours wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. We (and the 6 other families) gave our babies Benedryl to help dry out the ears and, quite honestly, to knock them out. It worked and the business men surrounding us were thankful, I'm sure!

Dear Rick and Maddy,
Congratulations! (though belated) I have just had a pretty tearful reading of your latest journal entries and went again through all your pictures. Suddenly from looking giddy on your first photos, you are genuinly and deeply happy - all three of you. Alexander is such a beautiful baby. There is not a single picture of him crying. Does he ever cry:0)?

Chat and I hope that you will be able to drop by our house on June 5th at least for the reception that starts at 5pm. We know you'd be dead tired but you still have to eat, right? And we'll have lots of food. In any case, we are looking forward to your return.
Have a smooth trip back home!

Congratulations again! Keep those pictures coming. Rick - great job on the web page. Not bad for a stats guy!

Dearest Alexander the Great from Kokshetau,
Your Omi and Opa have returned to beautiful Los Gatos from Munich. We are counting the days till we get to observe you in your lovely American "Kinderzimmer", pulling Louie's tail. What an adjustment that will be for all of you!!!
Tell your parents to give you solid foods as soon as Dr. Natalja says you can have it. Kazak food might be good, but St. Louis hamburgers and french fries aren't too shabby either. Please: no alcohol for a while. Promise?

Dearest Alexander,
A big hug from your Bavarian grandmother Omi. By the time your parents read this guestbook entry, you will have joined one of the greatest family-mergers in history: Grucza & Frick. We already have an Alexander - your uncle Peter Alexander in Kansas City. Surely you will live up to the name Alexander the Great!!!!!!!
My prayer for you is that you will develop into a charismatic, loving, giving, joyful human being. The blessings will follow.

Dear Maddy and Rick,
Thinking of you so much and praying for you as you go before the judge today. Just remember the wonderful promise, "God will work all things together for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose..." Rom.8:28. We all trust that this truly is God's will and stand in faith that the papers will be signed and all will go well. We love you, we miss you and are with you in spirit across the miles.... CAN'T WAIT TO HOLD MY NEW NEPHEW!!!!!! He is precious and cute as can be!!!!
Love,
Mia

Lance and I just saw the video. Did you take these with our camera? The first picture of him crawling was so cute. The way he looked back at you was priceless. He wanted to make sure you were still there behind him. Trust me, it doesn't matter how old they are. Even all grown, both Lance and Tyler still make sure I am behind them. Alex won't have to worry about that. There are so many people standing in line to give him all the love and support he will need. Lucky little boy. It looks like Tess and Jon will be home when your new family arrives in St. Louis. We can't wait.

Hello Gruczas! Thanks for the latest update and photos! Aziz is quite obviously a happy, healthy little boy, and already getting a bit "spoiled" at having Mom and Dad around every day. Now that's the kind of spoiling a child needs! The joy on your faces and in your journal is unmistakeable -- and we all look forward to the day you return home with your beloved little boy. My prayers are with you daily, and they'll be doing double duty this Friday as you go before the judge.

P.S. I've got lots of dill in my herb garden in the back yard -- I'll save it for you! :)

Dear Madeleine and Rick,

Just got your page from Irina. Looks like everyone is overwhelmingly happy and adjusting well! That's great. I hope that you do not have any more complications. Take those sneakers (and especially white socks) off once in a while and put on a couple of locally acquired items - you may have more fun than you think wearing those:0). Before you make your plans about taking Aziz home, don't forget to ask if it's ok if only one parent returns! Hang on there! Nastia

Here is a prayer I want to share with you and all who are thinking of you:

Father of the fatherless, you give your children a home in which to dwell; and like a loving mother you gather us into your household. We give you thanks for Alex Aziz who has come to bless this family and for Rick and Maddie who have taken this child to be their own. By the power of your Holy Spirit, fill Rick and Maddie with trust, understanding and affection; and, through this child in our midst, enable us better to know the mystery that we are all your children by adoption.

This is soooooo wonderful that we can see you and Alex, chat just like you were in town, and share this wonderful, blessed moment in your lives together. Two hours!!! Just seems cruel.......and must fly by so quickly. I thank you for including me in your website contacts. I am so thrilled for both of you and Alex. What a L-U-C-K-Y boy to get you two for parents. I pray that the legal entanglements get settled - how stressful can we make this anyway!! You both will handle whatever comes your way with grace and charm, and the people involved will not know quite what has just happened to them. I am so happy for you and thrilled to see all your photos. Thanks so much and can't wait to see you all back in the Good Ol' US of A.
Love and prayers,

I know that you will all be safely in St. Louis soon. For now, you are home! You are together, and home is where ever you are. Thank you for the blessing of sharing this with us!

Hi Everyone! Thanks for all of your sweet notes. It's so nice to know you all are with us in spirit. This little guy was soooo worth the journey here. He is absolutely adorable and is very cared for and loved in the hospital. We have great admiration for the people here. Today is a national holiday so after our 2 hour visit with Aziz we got to see a huge parade and performance with kazakhs in their national costumes. We'll share fotos. Keep your messages coming! We love hearing from you, Madeleine and Rick

Got your message today. Was out getting my hair cut. Nadi
called me this morning and I was happy to hear that you got there ok, because I had been waiting. Lori is writing this for me, because we haven't been able to access this website on mine, but will keep trying. Let us know what you thought of the baby after seeing him for the first time. I'm sure you were delighted! Hope to hear from you soon. Love you all, Mom

Dear Madeline & Rick,

I am so proud of you both to take such a long journey in order to adopt this golden boy from Khazakstan. There is something very special about him and that is fitting because he has two very special parents! Maddy, it was great to see you last weekend, and when things settle down, I'll make the trip again soon. Love to you both, Peter
