Hi, Kristin!

I am not sure if you remember me or not, but my name is Angie Laehn--Emma's mom from Emma's Hope in Pepin. I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to have 'found you!' But...I am even more thrilled to read that Lucas is doing so well.

There have been so many times when I have thought about you guys, but I could not remember your last name. I know that seems almost crazy, but it's true. So...yesterday I did a search online and found Lucas on CCRF's website and then I found his caringbridge site!!

Anyway.....thank God for Lucas' continued health. I read that there were some bumps in the road....but it sounds like all is well?

I know this is late notice, but Emma's Hope is tomorrow...again in Pepin. We would absolutely LOVE for you to come if you are able.

Either way.....I have added Lucas' caringbridge to my favorites, so I will not lose touch again.

Sending prayers for continued health.........angie

I'm sorry Lucas has to endure so much this month. I'm sending positive thoughts your way. The balls story had my laughing. Those topics aren't easy ones and then when you find out they're not private, well, it just makes it all the more interesting.

Michelle told me about the "balls" or lack thereof story. I would have been without words!!! Only outta the mouths of babes! Hope the surgery goes well for Lucas. Ian just started a new med (on top of what he's taking already). Hopefully this one will make his seizures subside. Other than that, he's doing pretty good.

Talk to you soon!

Glad to hear the scare was nothing major. It just makes one 's heart stop when you just don't know. I do it with the kids all the time. It is really bad when Joshua calls with aliments and I can't go fix them. On a happier note we are all fine.

Clinton is busy with the end of school and brandings.
Krisitna is busy with her pets and growing up.
Joshua will be this way around the 15th of this month.

Gues what Joshua came home Friday just to attend Clinton's First Football Game. He looks great and well on the mend.

Clinton 's team lost 15 to 0. But Clinton had a farely good nite. Tackles was in the double digits and he had one good run of 30 yards. Their team is very young with three Freshmen on the line. I'm sure we will see many improvemnts throughout the season.
Krisitna is still full of energy, attending another year of headstart. She has two boys her in who competer for her attention.
Kenny and I still plugging alone at work.
You were alllon our minds during our Relay for Life (Aug, 27th). well have to plan a gettogether when gas prices decrease some(I Hope).

Way to Go, Lucas!! Have fun when you head back to school. Clinton has be going to football Practice this week. He starts school on Thursday the 25th.
Haven't talked to josh for a few days I assume he is out on a outing and will be in over the weekend. He had his tonsils out and hopefully has made a full recovery. He was sick for 3 weeks before that and he got pretty down and out. His grandparents took him out to his aunt's so he got some tlc for a fewdays.

The Relay for Life is next Saturday so we will diffently be thinking of you alll and everyone else that day has we make the journey around the track thoughout the nite.

Hi,
glad to hear Lucas is doing well. I heard the funding came through and he'll finally be getting his hearing aids - I love the swirled colored earmolds! Sometimes you can get the hearing aids colored too - ask about that. I'm available if you need any help or info after he gets them. How exciting that he gets to go to Disney World! Make-A-Wish does a wonderful job arranging everything - you'll have an awesome time!

NO up date so hope all is still going well. When do you leave for your Make-A-Wish Trip? Alisha's Birthday was on Saturday.
Clinton is done with shcool for the summer. He has been working at some Brandings and fabricing trees. Today he is helping a Neighbor work some cattle. I suppose after Memorial Day he well go to Rapid to work on a construction crew for the summer-- With his Uncle Andy.

Kristina is busy playing at the Park, with her baby Duck-- It's black and named Quackers. She has a bike so we go for rides too. What are your summer plans Lucas== Besides your wonderful trip? Hanging Ten for the summer, Josh?

Kenny will start haying this week. I still working nites.

Well have a nice Memorial Weekend.

Yip Yip Hooray! That is great news Lucas. You are on your way now to achieve everything you want to accomplish. How about your trip? Have you heard anything about it yet? We are into spring fever cleaning and planting in the yard.

Clinton decided not to go out for track and so has been busy with his dirt bike and pickup. He will start painting the pick up this week.

Kenny and Clinton are going fishing on Saturday. A local tournment. You will have to come and go fishing with Clinton sometime.

Take care and enjoy your spring to the fullest.

I would love to look into it for you. It would also help me in connecting with you better. However we can lets try to. My personal E-mail needs to be updated and I had my friend do that originally, so unless I can figure it out, I dont have a working E-mail address at this point. It was so great to hear from you! Hi Luke,
I was just browsing and found a link to your site next to a link to my son's site in Kaitlyn's site...nevermind. My son is "Luke" also; he had Neuroblastoma, also stage 3. He was diagnosed in Dec '99, went through surgery, chemo, more surgery, radiation, and then a stem cell transplant. He then took Accutane for 6 mos. He is 10 now and he is doing great! He has been off all treatment for 4yrs. I just love watching him grow up, every single day ;<) I hope and pray for the best for you and your family. God bless you, little Luke.

Hey Lucas, what did that Christmas guy bring you? I got a book & a movie. And kind of a headache from the yelling my boys were doing because they were so excited at what they got. Hi Kristen,
I am so sorry for losing touch! Deb and A.J and you and Lucas are forever in my heart and I have to tell you that. I know what you feel like concerning the website. I have re evaluated continuing it as well, but then I go to church and several people say oh please dont stop, I check Joshys website often, I just never write! Silly friends! How else do we know? I just keep doing it. My heart does break in missing you and Deb. What would I have ever done without you???? You both helped me in ways that no one else on the planet even could of! I have no internet access at home yet so I do try to get to Dunn Bros. as often as I can and try to get as much done as possible. I am so glad to see Lucas' recent picture and to know he is doing well. I am not surprised that he has alot of friends! God bless you.. I have to get Josh from preschool!

Hi Lucas and family,
We found your site off Addison's. It sounds like really wonderful news and we pray it will always remain that way! What a nice Christmas present! I laughed when I read about Lucas celebrating his platelets. My daughter is now 6, but her medical volcabulary leaves even adults with surprised looks (and they wonder what she is talking about!). Hi Kristin & Lucas,
Thanks for the update. I have been thinking & praying for you last week during your scans and on Mon. when you got the results - actually I do pray for you every morning. And my niece, Dawn, too. The tube for her illostomy came out the other night so she spent yesterday at the U of Minn. getting another one inserted. She is such a dear and has been through so much too. She never complains either - I worry about her so much. Lucas, again you were the best looking and best behaved kid at the twins graduation party! You are a good little trooper. Keep up the good work. Love, Karen Meier

Hi Kristin & Lucas!
It was so great to know that you guys had such a wonderful time with the Toivolas... really does sound like Lucas and Addison were best of friends and had a special bond. I know that even when Lucas grows up, he'll have some, if not all of his memories of Addison...and he'll still be able to feel some sort of connection with his angel friend. Lucas, I just want you to know that I think of you and pray for you, buddy!!! Hi Kristin & Lucas,
It was so much fun to see you at Matt & Missy's graduation party. You are such a doll and looked like the healthiest kid there. I am so happy that you are having a good summer. Kristin - one of my friends in Lake City just found out that her 18 month old grandson has been diagnosed with retinol blastoma. Mother & son flew from Omaha to Philadelphia yesterday and stayed at Ronald McDonald house last night. Grandma will join them today. He has a mass behind one eye and I think he is blind in the other eye. Today they will decide if they should do chemo, radiation, or remove his eye. We read on the internet that this cancer usually attacks children between 18 months & 3 years. Kristin, please pray for little Cole - he has six month old twin sisters. And enjoy your weekend with Lucas & Josh. Love, Karen

WAY TO GO LUCAS!! I'm so proud of you. I hope you like the Garfield movie. You'll have to tell your mom, gramma & Josh that I said hi! I hope your counts stay in the normal range because you deserve it! You're such a brave little boy. You'll have to ask your mom if you could go to the park and play with my little guy, Ian. He's almost as old as you are. He'll be 4 in September. He can't say September though, he calls it Petember. That's okay, I know what he's talking about. I'm glad you had fun on your trip. I took a trip last weekend too. Only it took me 12 hrs to get there. Talk about a long drive!! I went to the Nascar race in Michigan. It was alot of fun, but I was sure glad to get home. I haven't seen you since the Winter concert at Burnside. Hopefully I'll see you again soon. Have a great summer & may you stay strong and healthy!

Hi guys,
Just wanted to stop by and see how things are going. Glad to read about Lucas' counts! That's awesome! I don't know if you read it yet, but Austin ended treatment not too long ago too. We are having a party at our house this Sunday the 27th starting at about 2 pm. Lots of things for the kids (big and little kids) to do. We rented a Moonwalk, bought pinatas and other games. Plus food, drinks etc. I wanted to stop by and invite you and your family. I know it's short notice but it would be nice to see you all again. I understand if you can't make it. I'll probably see you at the Mississippi Shuffle too. We are in the book if you need our address. Again, glad to hear that Lucas is keeping busy as are you all.

I will be saying extra prayers for you Lucas - let's get some good results. I hope you don't have to go through anymore unpleasant procedures. It is so admirable how strong you are through all of this. And your family is so wonderful to be willing to do anything and go anywhere to help you beat this dreaded disease. May God bless you all with added strength, faith, and mercy.

Hi Kristin & Lucas,
I am so sorry that you aren't getting definite answers on the scans - keep hanging in there. You are both so strong as you ride out the ups and downs these past 2 years. And I do pray every single morning that the scans will show no more traces of cancer. I was so proud of your mother at Gene's funeral - that poem she wrote was awesome and she delivered so well - she is a wonderful speaker. I have not seen Elaine since to tell her how impressed I was with Sue. Is Josh watching the RW basketball games? It is so exciting to see them so close to a state championship. Take care and have a great weekend! Love, Karen Meier

Hi Kristin and family,
I am sorry to hear that Lucas still has evidence of cancer... It has been a long road for you guys too. Austin reaches his 3rd year of treatment next month but he is still in remission. God, I sure hope they find a treatment that will knock this neuroblstoma out of Lucas. The understatment of the century I guess. Know we think of you all alot too. It would be fun to get together this summer and hang out. Maybe Dino's again? Take care and maybe we will bump into eachother around town. Lots of good thoughts and prayers sent your way--

Hi -
I found your web page through AJ's site and wanted to say "hi", this is Becky - Mitchell's mom, from 5B. I'm sorry Lucas is feeling so sad, he had a great friend in AJ and it is very hard to say "goodbye". I will be praying for all of you.
Lucas, remember Jesus knows how sad you are and how much you miss your buddy AJ. How about asking Jesus in your prayers to give AJ a message from you. I ask Jesus to give Mitchie hugs for me all the time when I miss him, and that is "all" the time. Hang in there buddy. You are doing great!

Hi Kristen & Lucas,
So happy to hear that your platelets are going up! I saw you that Friday you received such good news - you were both at the RW basketball game. I got to see Josh play basketball & then I saw you up by the railing. Wanted to come up and talk to you but we were so packed in there, I would have had to crawl over so many people to get out. That is no excuse though - I should have made the effort. You both looked so good and Josh played well too. All of you keep up the good work - our prayers are being answered.

Dear Kristen and Lucas,
I read your site nearly every day, along with Amy's, Addison's, Laura's, and Tori's. My daughter goes to school with Tori. It has obviously been an especially emotional and stressful few weeks. It is way no fun to be out of control and waiting for someone to tell you what's going on with your own child. I am continually in awe at the strength I find reading about your and the others' journeys. Please know that there are many of us out here, praying and supporting. You are not alone, though I know it must feel that way a lot. Take care.

That new picture of Lucas is so cute - he looks so grown up & ready to play basketball. Did you have to drive up to the hospital on Tuesday, such a snowey day? I'm sure Lucas (and you) miss Addison very much. I pray for Lucas every single morning while I am out walking and talking to God. Take care and have a very nice day! Love, Karen Meier

Lucas! Those are the cutest pictures in the world! You're so big I can hardly believe it! I can't wait for you to go to school to play basketball... and read some books! You get your own teacher first, lucky you! You're such a smart and brave boy that you'll do great. Are you having fun playing in the snow? Throw a snowball at Dave for me and eat a lot of Christmas cookies. Seeing your smiling pictures has made my day! The one of you and your buddy AJ is adorable! Thanks!

Kristin,

I had tears in my eyes reading your update, especially when Lucas asked you that dreaded question...then I looked at the photo album and cried even more at the photo of Lucas and Addison...how precious that photo is. I followed Addison's journey for awhile and am totally heartbroken that he's gone...you're right though, Lucas will NOT lose this battle...he is doing so well and I know he will continue his journey to complete healing. Lucas, sweetie.. you are SO GORGEOUS!!! You make a very handsome little boy :) I'm praying for a happy and wonderful holiday season for all of you...

Hey guy - how nice of you to honor your buddy with the special ornament on the tree, I am sure you miss him - but I'll bet he is smiling down on you from Heaven. Good luck mom with the interview, you make sure everyone out there knows that life can change in an instant and you should be so thankful for what you have. Let everyone know that this terrible disease is taking away too many of our beautiful babies and we need lots of donations to help them find a cure. I continue to keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. I hope you have a good holiday. God Bless

Good Job on the potty chair. My Andrew was so proud when at 3 1/2 he finally succeeded in potty training. Like your son, we hadn't even tried with all the chemo he had. He was the one who really wanted to do it. He would approve of his choice of batman undies.

Hip Hip Hooray Happy Birthday to you, Lucas!

Clinton has his foot in a cast or rather a walking boot. He has to stay off it for 3 weeks. He got tackled in Football. They put a screw in his foot.

Josh's team is in the play offs and plays again thursday. He got a slight concussion last Friday. He seems to like to get at least one every year.

Kristina is busy watching walt Disney Movies and like to ride bike and go to the park. We turned the calf out to pasture.

Hope you recieve good news and today and always.

It is so hard to loose a dear friend and so hard to understand, especially to a child. I am sure that Addison is safe and happy in God's family - no more pain and suffering. It is now those that are left that will feel the pain. We are praying for Great news on Monday. We had a great visit with you guys in the hospital. Addison left ICU today and was very upset that Lucas didn't stay in the hospital with him. He thought it was just a afternoon and then he came back and Lucas left. I had to tell him he was gone for a couple of days. He just cryed and said, "I miss my buddy." They sure do love each other. I will be thinking of you all weekend while you are waiting for your news. Miss you lots.

Way to go Lucas! Hopefully soon your fishing trips well be longer. Clinton wants to go fishing tommorrow when school gets out for the summer. He has been doing lots of fishing this spring. Begs his dad to take him every weekend.

Happy Belated Birthday Josh!! Clinton's money always burns holes too.

My Josh is at State track meet. He seemed to be havig fun when he called tonite. He is just their mostly for support but would run if someone gets hurt.

Kristina is busy with Babe (her calf) and all the other things she likes to explore when she is outside.

Kenny is haying this week and I am going to take a day and relax. Graduations and endof the school year are busy and stressfull, but notheing like the stress you experience when fighting for a life. Take Care.

Dear Kristin,
My little 2 1/2 year old boy also has Neuroblastoma stage III. I have not met anyone who has stage III. We have finished 2 of our 12 radiation sessions. So we are a month or so behind your cute son. This antibody stuff doesn't sound good at all. I am so thankful that your son is almost done! Thank God!

Hi Lucas, you ARE a cutie! And you sure have been thru a lot already. My son has leukemia so I kind of know the toll it takes on the whole family emotionally, financially and spiritually. The siblings also have it very hard too, they dont understand why its all happening (and how do we explain when we dont understand ourselves!) Well I hope your being added to the Adopt a Kids Site brings you more visitors and more thoughts & prayers. We will be thinking of you!

Hey, My name is Angela Kinney. I am from Des Moines, IA. When I heard of your story I started checking up on Luca and was amazed at the family support and that trust that you all put in God. I am inspired by all of the patients and their families. It is a blessing to know that you are going through such a tough time and still know that God is there and watching you and your little boy everyday. I don't know you at all but I thank you for sharing you and your families story for everyone to check up on. Everyone going through this is a inspiring thing for me to see. No matter what you all have a lot of energy and strength. I believe that God is watching you all and you will be home and with your families soon!

Lucas you are such a strong and brove boy. Your mother is so proud of you and how you are doing. When you get home you will have to come to our house and play with some of the toys I keep around for kids like you to enjoy. I am sure we will see you soon.

Hi Lucas,

My name is Pat Chapple. I work with your Mom. I wanted to tell you that I have a Golden Retriever. His name is Luke (pretty close to Lucas) He had a big piece of plastic taken out of his tummy last week and He wanted me to tell you that his tummy doesn't hurt anymore. He also wanted me to tell you that he hopes your tummy will quit hurting too.

Hi Lucas, Kristen, Dave and Josh - I was happy to find this address in the paper so that I can let you all know that I have been thinking about all of you. This is to let Lucas know that his Grandma Sue was in my wedding in 1965! That's a long time ago. Also, Dave, remember me? I was your second grade teacher. And Josh, I used to say "hi" to you when I was a teacher out at Burnside. So Lucas, in a way I feel I know you, too, and I am hoping that all will go well for you. Our prayers to you all.
