My wife Diana was just diagnosed with PMP and faces the prospects of MOAS surgery too. Diana and I and our grown daughter Carrie are scheduled to meet 2 world-renowned surgeons (one at St. Agnes and one at Mercy) in Baltimore on July 18. PMP wasn't even on our radar a month ago and now it's taken over our lives. This insidious thing has been masquerading as colitis for years. I am glad to hear that Ann is doing well. That is very encouraging to me.

Hi to Ann and Brian,
I received your name from the pmpbellybutton group and I have specific questions about how you handled your bout with pancreatitis. My husband had his original surgery with Dr. Sugarbaker in 2000 and a reocurrence surgery in Feb. 2008 with Dr. Bartlett but presently has pancreatitis.
Anything you can tell me about the duration, the treatment, etc. would be appreciated. Today the Dr. indicated no food or drink by mouth for at least a week.
You can reach me at labb48@aol.com if you have anything you would like to share.
Thank you.

Hi Ann & Brian,
Glad to see an update Ann, but sorry to hear about the gallstones. Was wondering when Ann's apt. with Dr. Loggie is scheduled. I have my apt. with him on Aug 15th. I was hoping we were scheduled on the same day.

I read of your search for treatment for your PMP and was encouraged by your success with Dr. Loggie. I had surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, on November 29, 2004. Originally, the diagnosis was Ovarian Cancer, but upon the incision, they found the abdomen full of mucous. Dr. John Donohue was called in to assist. They removed the appendix, gall bladder, spleen, omentum, and a complete hysterectomy; they cleaned out the mucous as best they could. On day five after surgery, I had the Intraperitoneal Heated Chemotherapy (5FU) and was scheduled for one subsequent day of P32 intraperitoneal radiation, but it was not available in North America the day I needed it. I was doing very well for 15 months, and in February, 2006, began experiencing symptoms. My tests at Mayo in March showed fluid was present in the abdomen. It had not shown on the CT scan in September, 2005. Dr. Donohue said that surgery is not an option, nor is chemotherapy. I am looking for a second/third opinion, and have come across Dr. Brian Logge's name. I read Jose's blog about his sister, Melena. I am interested in trying to see Dr. Loggie, but would very much like your input about your experience. I am pleased that you are doing well and I wish you continued good health and God's blessings.

Dear Bentler Family,

There are no words that can express our gratitide for reaching out to us with Ann's story. We to did research and contacted all the same folks in MN and elsewhere to help in my brothers quest for a cure to his battle with Colon Cancer. Your email offers us hope in a time where we need it so desperatly. We have been told that Jon is "untreatable" and this is in Gods hands. We are still hopeful that he will be the one recepiant of a well deserved miracle. In the mean time we are thrilled to be able to explore the possibility of clinical trials and any other possible alternative option.

We thank you for taking the time to send us such a wonderful email. My father was moved to tears asking" who is this Bentler Family?" And the reality is that people pop into your lives when you least expect it and what a gift it has been to meet you and hear about Ann's challenges and triumphs! She sounds like an amazing woman with so much determination and strength.

Ann your story inspires us and gives us hope. On behalf of my entire family we will pray for your family and offer our eternal gratitude.

Take care,

Heather

Good morning Ann and Brian,

I've been thinking about you and decided to flip in here this morning before work. Glad to hear life is moving on for you. We are celebrating THREE YEAR ANNIVERSARY. Yes, I'm shouting happy. Yesterday was three years since we rushed him into ER. Wow. You think one year flies by, what about three?

God is good.
Brian we haven't talked about your Bible reading since you were sitting in the hospital room....did you complete it? I'm in search of my Bible verse for next year. Not sure where the Lord will have me go, but I do believe he empowered me this past year. My verse Prov 28:1 said: BE BOLD AS A LION. I have learned a lot this last year--some people thought I had a boldness before, but I do think God has given me a new insight this year.

Lord bless you both,
hope you find this soon.

love you both,
kat in Omaha
PS I'm ready for interviews and PMP questions answered for a book I'm compiling. Will you two be involved?

Hello there!!
It is so good to see you back in the neighborhood and to see Brian mowing the old lawn!!!
As Mother Teresa said: We must know that we have been created for greater things, not just to be a number in the world, not just to go for diplomas and degrees, this work and that work. We have been created in order to love and to be loved.
It is so neat to see all the caring, sharing and love this guestbook has shared over the past months. Brian, you no doubt have been a source of strength for Ann throughout this entire ordeal and the vehicle of awareness for the rest of us, thanks for all the updates!!!

THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE UPDATE AND SLOOOW PROGRESS THAT IS SUCH GOOD NEWS. AS I HAVE SAID BEFORE, YOU DON'T KNOW ME, BUT I FEEL LIKE I KNOW YOU. AT LEAST I HAVE BEEN DOWN A SIMILAR SLOW PROGRESS WITH MY WIFE. THE BODY IS AMAZING, IT CAN HEAL AFTER TERRIFIC TRAUMA. I HOPE OTHERS WILL RESPOND TO YOUR POST, BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT KEEPS YOUR HOPES UP AND ENCOURAGES YOU TO MAKE NEW POST. LOOKS LIKE YOU GUYS ARE HEADED BACK TO NORMAL.

IF THERE IS AN AMUSEMENT PARK CLOSE BY, I RECOMMEND THE ROLLER COASTER. MOST PEOPLE THAT HAVE RECOVERED FROM THIS SURGERY CAN RIDE THE THING AND WALK AWAY SAYING "IS THAT THE BEST THEY COULD COME UP WITH?"

BECKY ONLY REGAINED HER APPETITE AFTER HAVING ALL THE TUBES REMOVED. AND IT DID COME BACK QUICKLY. OUR DOCTOR EVEN COMMENTED "YOU DON'T LIKE ANYTHING ARTIFICIAL". HE WAS RIGHT. WE ARE ONLY CONCERNED NOW WITH GAINING TOO MUCH WEIGHT. ANN WILL GET THERE TOO.

YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED NOT TO POST PROGRESS. THIS IS A RESPONSIBILITY YOU TOOK ON WHEN YOU STARTED THIS POST. I FOR ONE WANT TO KNOW PROGRESS. WE CAN ONLY SUPPORT YOU AND DO RESEARCH FOR YOU IF WE KNOW THE CURRENT CONDITION AND PROGRESS. WE WANT TO HELP AND IF NOTHING ELSE, KEEP BOTH OF YOU FOCUSED. ONCE A WEEK IS EXPECTED. DON'T LET US DOWN.

I AM AN OUTSIDER AND HAVE BEEN POSTING TO YOUR BLOG FOR SOME TIME NOW. I HAVE SEEN EXPECTED SLOW PROGRESSS. ONE DAY THE BODY WILL GET EVERYTHING FIGURED OUT AND YOU WILL BE AMAZED AT HOW EVERYTHING IS WORKING AND NORMAL. TIME, OH YES IT DOES TAKE TIME. BE PATIENT, THE BODY IS HEALING IN LOTS OF AREAS. THE PANCREAS SEEMS TO BE THE PROBLEM BECAUSE IT HAS SYMPTOMS, BUT THE WHOLE BODY IS HEALING.

STILL IN OUR PRAYERS.

Ann and Brian,
It was SO good to see Ann yesterday. What a fabulous day it was to get the tube removed and nice enough to be outside. God is awesome and he doesn't let us down. Your strength will slowly come back especially now that you can get out a little and eat a little. A little more often is better for you than a lot at once anyway. Good luck with the eating. You look marvelous. Love, Kathy

"Ann finds it a little coincidental that when she met Jim Disney in Omaha in late February she said something to the effect “When you go home will be the day that this here tube will be out”. Today Jim went home. "

I bet that's the last time Ann ever makes a comment like that again eh? :-)

I had my NG tube in for 2 weeks. I can't imagine what it would be like to have it in as long as Ann did. She's a trooper. Glad it's out and Ann is getting better.

BRIAN, IT IS ME AGAIN. YOU STILL DON'T KNOW ME AND THAT DOES NOT MATTER RIGHT NOW. LET US KNOW WHAT THE TEST RESULTS WERE. AIMEE AND I FOR TWO WANT TO KNOW. I HAVE NOTICED THE POST HAVE DECREASED AND I HAD THE SAME SITUATION. THEY ONLY DECREASE WHEN THERE IS NO UPDATE ON YOUR PART. KEEP EVERYONE INFORMED AND THEY WILL GIVE YOU ENCOURAGEMENT THAT YOU BOTH NEED AT THIS TIME.

MY WIFE WAS ONLY ABLE TO RESUME A NORMAL LIFE AND EAT PROPERLY AFTER ALL THE TUBES WERE REMOVED. HER DOCTOR STATED "YOU DON'T TOLERATE ANYTHING ARTIFICIAL". HE WAS RIGHT AND WE ARE NOW BACK TO NORMAL. YES, GIVE US A REPORT. IF IT IS BAD, WE UNDERSTAND. WE HAD LOTS OF THOSE BUT DID NOT GIVE UP HOPE OF FULL RECOVERY. THIS IS A TRYING TIME FOR ANYONE.

LOOKS LIKE YOU ARE GETTING SOME GREAT ADVISE FROM PMPBELLYBUTTONS SITE. HOPEFULLY THE MYSTERY CAN BE SOLVED SOON.
JUST A TID BIT HERE, I THINK BELLYBUTTONS WAS STARTED BY A PERSON THAT LOST THIER BELLY BUTTON WITH THE SURGERY. MY WIFE HAD A WOUND INFECTION JUST ABOVE THE NAVEL AND THEY REMOVED SEVERAL STAPLES. THE WOUND HEALED FROM THE INSIDE OUT. AMAZING TO WATCH THE PROCESS. ANYWAY SHE NOW LOOKS LIKE SHE HAS TWO NAVELS. SO, HOWEVER LOST ONE, WE HAVE IT NOW.

I FEEL THAT THE DOCTORS WILL SOON PIN POINT THE PANCREAS PROBLEM AND RECOVERY WILL RAPIDLY TAKE PLACE.

WE ARE PRAYING FOR YOU.

Hi Ann and Brian, It was good to catch a momentary glimpse of you this morning in your garage. I figured you were on the way to your Dr.s appointment. I am so glad that the doctor saw you and that you are having tests to get to the bottom of the pancreas problems. I thought of you both all day and was grateful to see your posting, Brian. We pray that these tests will reveal what can be done to move Ann's recovery forward. Take care. Love, Joanne and Leeann P.S. We are watching everyday for the return of your ducks.

I AM A STRANGER TO YOU, BUT MAKE FRIENDS QUICKLY.

JUST WANTED TO POST A MESSAGE ABOUT LONG TERM STRUGGLES WITH THE FEEDING TUBE AND DIGESTIVE SYSTEM. MY WIFE BECKY HAD THE MOAS NOV. 2,2004 WITH VERY REMARKABLE RECOVERY EXCEPT FOR THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM. NAUSSEA AND DHIARHEA UNTIL THEY REMOVED THE "J" FEEDING TUBE AND PUT IN A PICC LINE FOR TPN FEEDING. WENT HOME FROM THE HOSPITAL AFTER 47 DAYS, DEC. 17, 2004. DID PICC LINE TPN FEEDING UNTIL JAN. 17, 2005.

LOOKS TO ME LIKE YOU HAVEN'T BEEN THAT FAR YET. KEEP YOUR CHIN UP. BECKY WENT BACK TO WORK THE FIRST OF MARCH PART TIME 4 HOURS A DAY 4 DAYS A WEEK. PLANS ON GETTING BACK TO FULL TIME BY THE FIRST OF APRIL.

IT WILL GET THERE AND WHEN IT DOES, THE BODY DOES START WORKING COMPLETELY WHEN THE TIME COMES.

WE HAD THE SURGERY WITH DR. PAUL MANSFIELD AT M. D. ANDERSON. WE LIVE IN HOUSTON, TX. OUR ADDRESS IS HOUSTON, TX. JUST 27 MILES FROM THE HOSPITAL. I DID GET TO SLEEP IN MY BED MOST NIGHTS.

PS: I HAVE BEEN A REAL FRIEND AND GREAT SUPPORTER OF AIMEE DISNEY SINCE DAY 2 AFTER SURGERY AND I THINK SHE WILL TELL YOU THAT. IF YOU ARE KEEPING UP WITH THEIR POST, I AM THE GUY FROM HOUSTON IN ALL CAPS.

LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR PROBLEMS ANY TIME AFTER WORKING HOURS. 281-894-5323.

YOURS,
ROB

Brian and Ann,

Sorry to hear you are still struggling with problems with your pancreas. I know that Charlynn Johnson who posts on the PMP site and was a patient of Dr Loggies has had complications with bouts of pancretitis following her surgery. She has posted both her telephone number and e-mail address on the PMP site. If you have not already been in touch with her, she might have some helpful hints in dealing with Ann's problems.

Also, my husband had pancreatic cancer (PC). Many patients with PC take pancreatic enzymes to aid with digestion. I don't know if this would be helpful to Ann, but you might discuss it with the doctors.

Hope the situation improves. It must be very frustrating for both of you.

Sending prayers and healing energy your way.

Ann and Brian,
Your report is such good news, an answer to prayer. Maybe not complete recovery yet, but so hopeful. I do remember when we brought husband home from the hospital last year. I wondered who the white wrinkled old man was that greeted me each morning. His flesh hung like waded up sheets that blew in the wind. Our daughter is giving me a bad time these days. "Mother," she says, "All you did last year was complain because Dad lost so much weight he was alwsys buying smaller clothes. This year you complain because he is buying bigger clothes." She's right, only last year I feared the worst with each ounce husband lost. Praise the Lord for his continual mercy and my husbands healing.

We are continuing to pray for you two, keep looking up.
Oh, Brian, how far did you read in the BOOK?

Brian and Ann, Just read your latest update. While I didn't have half the post-op complications Ann has, I can relate to losing all my muscle after my MOAS. When I finally started back at work, I was exhausted when I got there. I take the subway from my apt to my building, and would have to hold the hand rails on the stairs, and pull myself up. On the escalator, I would just stand there and ride it up or down (usually I would walk the escalator). It took about a week before I started feeling a little stronger. I remember looking at myself in the mirror and looking so thin (I'm normally thin, but I was really skinny). It will take time, but Ann will get her strength back. If Ann is able, start walking. Even if it is around the block, it will help in her recovery.

Hang in there, it will be a bit of a haul, but things will get better.

Hi Ann and Brian,
When I came home I had a "pic line". It was an IV form of getting nutrients. It was entered in my upper arm and at night I hooked up to a bag of "TPN". It had to be put in in the hospital but was removed in the docs office after my stomach started working. I do not know if it would help but it may mean getting rid of the tube. I know after 4 weeks with the NG tube I was going crazy. They made sure by blood work every few days that I was getting the nutrieition I needed. I thought the stomach would never start working. I also thought the bowels would never adjust- but that is another story for later!

You continue to be in my prayers. Thank you for letting me keep up with your progress. God Bless you and your family.

Good morning you two, I appreciate your updates, Brian. You have a wealth of info on here for another patient facing the same problems. And yes, they will happen, even if you don't meet them.

I remember when husband (sorry, gary) came home from the hospital Dec 02. The feeding tube had been removed days before, but still he could only manage very minute amounts of food. He didn't tell me till recently that he threw out food so the nurses thought he was eating.

Gary was so mal-nourished by the second hospital stay, the oncologist kept him on the IV's for days before a paracenthesis (drain) for fear he wouldn't recover.

After MOAS he couldn't do health foods. Dr. Loggie said, "Let him eat whatever he wants. He needs 3000 calories a day." What a joke. The man could barely get down the 1/2 cup yogart.....we do understand your predicament, Ann. We are in prayer for your continual healing. Hang steady, look up.

I am so glad that you made it home finally!! It was so wonderful to meet both of you on Monday in Dr. Loggie's office. This is the first chance that I have had to check up on you guys. I will keep tabs on you guys and hope to read that that nasty tube is gone for good! Hang in there guys! You are in our prayers. Good night from Omaha!!

Just a short note to let you know the folks at Empire are thinking of you, and pray all will go well.

Your dad, Laurie and Robert stop by from time to time, so we have heard about your progress. While the future may seem clouded with uncertainty, miracles happen every day.

All our best on a quick and complete recovery!

Ann and Brian, I am sure that you are glad to get out a little although I can not imagine trying to manuever all of that equipment with you. It sounds like the monitoring they are doing may be able to be done at home. Have you asked them about having your doc. over see this with communications with Dr Loggie? When I came home I had the TPN feeding IV and counadin monitoring. I felt much better once I got in my own bed. Things started working better too. But we are all different and so are the docs. You continue to be in our prayers. I will put you in the prayer basket at church tonight. So about 8pm a church in Florida will be praying for you.

I knew you were special, Ann. Today is our daughter's birthday. She is 44 today....special daughter, Marcy, lives in Louiseville NE (about 27 miles from us).

So happy birthday special Ann. Husband told me that after I went to work today he spent time thinking about you and praying for you. He always asks how you are. Take care and keep looking up.

Oh yes, husband doesn't have a spleen either. With my being so horribly ill for days on end I worried about him. Especially with him having more surgery. Well he's doing great. Doc gave him THUMB'S UP and he can even play table tennis this thursday if he feels like it. Yahoo.

Happy Birthday Ann. What a wonderful gift you have given us by coming though this ordeal with such courage, strength and faith. Keep getting better every day.
Brian, I'm glad you are feeling better, but I'm not surprise you became ill. With the stress and lack of sleep you have endured. I'm glad Ashley could be with you again. I know having her with you is such a comfort to you and Ann. I hope Ashley is feeling better too.
I will be so happy when I can look out my window and see your lights on again. Come home soon. We all look forward to your return.
God is good and we pray for continued healing.

Brian you amaze me with your positive attitude. I do believe you are right, everything happens for a reason. We see that even more in reflection than we did at the time of happening. A verse I packed everywhere is found in Jeremiah 29:11 (have you read that far yet, Brian?)

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord. "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Ann and Brian, the Lord knows right where you are. He cares. We care, too. Lord bless you this night.

You continue to be in our thoughts and prayers. We are happy to hear that your pancreas is starting to behave, but sorry to hear about the blod clot. In good time, this too will resolve. In the meantime continue to get proper rest, because when you get home, we're sure you'll hit the ground running. Until then, all the best.

We continue to pray for improvement and comfort. We feel so bad that things are not improving. I suppose it is a good thing that you can go for a ride in the car and walk and climb stairs outside of the hospital but we know how much you want to get home. We pray that your Drs. get answers and they can fix whatever is wrong. You are so fortunate to have each other to lean on. Thank you so much for the updates. We appreciate them. I know you have many friends offering to do what they can if you need anything, but if you do need anything that we can help with please don't hesitate to ask. Continue to be positive it is only a matter of time. The light at the end of the tunnel will get brighter soon.

Brian and Ann, I know this is frustrating and hard. But you will feel better slowly. But walk. I developed a blood clot in my arm. I guess this is the best place if you are going to develop one. But the meds they put you on, coumidin means a lot of blood work to monitor it. You do not want the vampires coming in to take blood twice a day. Walk. Hang in there.

Ashley....I know what it's like to be the 'cheerleader' daughter of the family. At times...it gets kind of hard to be upbeat and think of something humorous to say. Keep it up, you're doing a GREAT job!! And it makes a huge difference! When life is looking tough, humor is truly a gift!
Brian...the ups and downs are killers! Sometimes, you almost wish for the plateaus because you don't get bummed by the set backs. But for every down, there is an up that is higher than the one before! God is pruning you all. I know when Dad kept having all the different set backs, at times my parents said it was hard for them to even pray. I just told them....it's ok for us to be having a hard time right now. And we don't have to pray....everyone else is doing it for us. And that is true for you guys too! We're all praying for you!
Ann...am I going to have to come down there to cut your hair? You must be getting shaggy by now!! And Brian...if you have to go to some chop shop down there...remember to remind them about your ears! =o)

Dear Father in heaven, please allow this lady peace and rest today. She's in an uncomfortable bed, in a noisy setting, where no one allows her complete rest. Will you please send angels of mercy to her room, her body, her throat, and her 'insides'.
In the process of her healing, Lord, help Ann to see you at work. Give Brian an extra dose of wisdom and grace. Thank you that he is beside her to share the load. Give him added strength and comfort.
And thank you Lord, for the good report from the ultra sound. Amen.
PS please continue to guide the doctors and nurses....all of them.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
Keep trusting in Him, I know this is tough and so hard to understand why this is happening, but I've been amazed at your strength since the beginning of this, just hang in there and God will bring you through this and you'll both be stronger people.
Love,
Brenda

Hi Brian and Ann - Don't let this setback get you down. Sometimes God works in funny ways, and we don't understand until the storm settles. You have a lot of prayers being asked for you two, and I'm sure they do not go unheard. It's so nice that you can both be there together and support each other. We so appreciate the updates and hope that tommorow brings better news! We love and miss you both.

Our family is putting pancreas prayers in overdrive. More seriously, continue to hang in there. God has done an amazing thing through you two that has obviously sparked a greater faith in many, many people not the least of which is myself.

We are so sorry for the set backs. Hopefully the new IVs will change your progress from reverse to fast forward. I continued having my bible study pray for you at today's lesson. We remain very optimistic that things will turn around and you will be home soon. It has to be very hard for the both of you but at least you have each other. It would be wonderful for all 3 of you if Ash could come back for a visit. From Uncle Jeff's update I'm sure you have nothing to worry about on the home front. As we come and go past your house we have yet to see smoke or anything else alarming. Keep hanging in there and hold each other tight. You WILL be better soon. We are all praying and thinking of you A LOT!!!!

Since Brian has been doing such a great job in keeping us updated on the hospital front, I thought it was time I give an update on the home front.

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Ashley’s Godfather, Uncle Jeff (better known as Uncle Buck). I have never had children and was both honored and surprised when Brian and Ann asked me to help with Ashley during this difficult time.

To prepare myself for this adventure I watched the movie “Uncle Buck” to help me brush up on my parenting skills. Last Saturday Ashley and I watched the movie together and took a few notes. There are a few similarities and a few differences. Here’s a brief list of what going on at the Bentler Household:
• I haven’t beat up on the washer
• I’m not drying clothes in the microwave
• I haven’t gone to the track or gone bowling
• I burnt the croissants
• I also forgot to put the milk in the French toast batter, the first slice was like an egg sandwich (kinda thick).
• I’ve mastered pancakes.
• I’m the one who oversleeps (Ashley is up and going long before me)
• I haven’t been to any teen parties yet
• Ashley is the exact opposite of the teenager in the movie. She studies on her own and is very pleasant in the morning.
• I’m not as structured and neat as Ann. (I’m learning the benefits of organization).
• The toothpaste is in my sink, on the cabinet, and even on the mirror. I managed to get a little on my toothbrush too.
• I’m sleeping in a sleeping bag in front of the fireplace every night. I consider this just another campsite without mosquitoes. Maybe we’ll roast marshmallows in the fireplace tonight. Anyone want Smores? How about hot dogs?
• I’ve made only one trip to the High School Principal’s Office, but I didn’t get a chance to meet the Principal.
• I took Ashley to a Superbowl party, we ate Deer Bratwurst.
• I brought my axe from the cabin, just in case any Bugs needed a lesson
• Peanut Butter and Honey on Toast – what a treat.
• I have a tendency to use every available plate, pan, and bowl to make even the simplest meals.
• I don’t wear a hat. Although if I did, I’m sure everyone would hate it like they did Uncle Buck’s.

In the movie one of the neighbors came over to teach Uncle Buck how to dance. So far my dance card is completely empty. Any volunteers?

Our first night back form Omaha (Sunday Night) Ashley asked if we could have Pizza. Luckily I brought my favorite recipe with me, 1-800-DOMINOS. Don’t worry Ann, Ashley got all the basic food groups. Protein from the pepperoni, Dairy from the cheese, Vegetable from the tomato sauce and Grains from the crust. I think covered all her basic food groups but none of mine (beer, wine, and spirits).

Things improved drastically the following Monday when Great Aunt Vernie began her daily care package deliveries. She makes a perfect meal every day. All we have to do is pop it in the oven. Aunt Vernie has been a wonderful help. Great Aunt Arylis also made us a taco casserole that was fantastic, even my brother Jerry had to have a piece when he stopped over. If anyone needs a caterer, call Vernie and Arylis.

Ashley took me shopping at Best Buy on Sunday. We bought some cool new headphones and some other electronic gadgets. She’s getting me hip with the latest technology…Anybody want to buy a good used 8-track tape player?

By the way, the tall clock in the entryway, that’s a cheap Chinese knock off right? Something I could pick up at say…Costco, right? Good. I thought so.

While Ashley keeps me on time, Ann’s notes and checklists have kept us organized.
• The fish are fed
• The plants are watered
• The floors are swept
• The laundry is done
• Ash, did you shut the oven off? (it’s not on the list)

I can tell from the posts, the neighbors are watching us (like hawks). We’ve got them fooled. The house appears to be in one piece from the outside. Luckily they can’t see the toothpaste in the sink. Speaking of messes, does anyone know how to get red wine out of a white carpet? Or should I just wait till Ann gets back and have her handle it?

Brian, where are the ash trays? Never mind, I’ll just use one of Ashley’s.

Don’t worry, the cat has been very well behaved and has adjusted to your absence, but I can’t find his/her(?) litter box. In the meantime the spare bedroom seems to be working quite fine (Don’t want to get those cute little paws cold you know).

Money? No problem. We’ve taken on a roomer for a little extra cash. His name it Art, he’s living in the room next to the Cat’s. So if you see friendly old man coming out of one of the bedrooms when you get home, take a minute to say “hi!” Say it loud. Art’s a little hard of hearing.

Since all my friends and relatives are reading this I thought I’d say: Hi everyone! Let’s do lunch sometime…you buy.

Ashley wears a different coat every day. Where do they come from? Does she have a tailor in the closet?

Seriously, thanks for letting me help. Ashley is a fine young lady. Great Aunt Vernie and I were talking the other night and we both agreed that this has been a great chance to get to know Ashley. We think you should have named her Angel.

Ann, please get better soon. Even though this has been a great adventure for us, we still would rather see you home where you belong.

Still praying, and keeping the lights on, and the heat up, and the house clean.

Love,
Jeff

We are so glad to hear that everything is going well with your recovery. All of your exercise before the surgery will pay off. Things here in Minnesota are fine. We are riding a temperature roller coaster--cold one week, warmer the next. This provides a perfect environment for viruses. All three kids were home with Julie today. We had our own home hospital lock-in. It takes a lot of character to keep such a positive attitude through your long hospital stay. When you break out of there, and come home we'll have a party potluck. No Gatorade, popsicles, or jellos will be allowed!

I stoped over at your house to grab a pair of shoes from Ashley. I went to my FIRST winter formal on saturday. It was really fun, but I ended up doing my hair all by myself. Haha, you can ask my mom about that one. I just ended up throughing it in pig tails and bobby pining it up! In the end it didn't look so bad, but I took pictures so i will show you when you come back! I can't wait.
I will keep you updated on my life with this nifty internet, because i figured how to work it. Until then take care and I'm always praying for you!! LOVE YOU VERY MUCH!!! MUAH

Great idea with the spirometer. I wish I would have thought of that during my hospital stay. Brian, you'll have to give the group directions on how to rig it. :-)

I'm sorry Ann is having a hard time with the pancreas, but better to be in the hospital than go home and have something bad happen. We're praying things will normalize soon and that you'll be on your way home to recover there.

Hi Brian and Ann,
You two are amazing! There is no stopping your practical jokes! I can just see the faces of all the people in the hospital, they probably looked alot like Tim's face after every alarm clock went off or Liz's face when she looked out in the driveway! I'm glad to see you two can have fun where ever you are!!! We are still praying for you both and especially for Ann's pancreas. Keep waiting on the Lord and trusting in Him.

We look forward to having you back home again. Ashley has stopped by the last couple days and she seems great!
Thanks again for the updates, we check them often to make sure your getting better each day.

hey:) So, today was another uneventful day at school. Guess what song I'm listening too? "stand here with me" by Creed... Sound familiar? (wink, wink.. my "new favorite song") So today I went over to Kristies and hung out with her and Austin.. Woah, hold up we need a new song. ok so im at home now, and i have nothing to do so I'm bored. I'm home alone for the first time in a VERY LONG TIME! (for all who don't know, my parents have had me watched like a TV durring the Superbowl. hahahahahahahaha... oh my gosh i just came up with that, and you can so tell!! That has to be the dumbest joke I think I've ever heard!!!) Well, anyways it feels good to be home alone. Telephone call, be right back. It was Grandpa, we have a chiropractor date for 1:30 tomorrow afternoon... whoo hooo:) Kay though, I think I'm going to make some phone calls and such. So I'll talk to you guys later. Love you.

Oh yeah, and it was so cold yesterday that my teeth hurt. I can feel it in the air, its like if its getting colder out my teeth can tell before the meterologists.

Good morning,
My computer has been on the blink and I couldn't connect with your pages. Thanks Brian for keeping us updated. I remember the 'spirometer'. Several said husband developed pnemonia because he didn't use it enough--HOWEVER, when they ordered a technician to come and measure his breathing capacity, he said, "You don't need me." Husband could easily do 97% on that machine. Still, he ended up with the dread bug. Sometimes it happens when the patient is really run down before entering the hospital.

Glad to hear you are on top of things--you are right. It sure helps to have a PATIENT ADVOCATE on site.

Take care of yourselves, we are continuing to pray for you both.

Hi Brian and Ann. I remember when I was a junior in high school I had a skiing accident that put me in the hospital for a week. Man, it felt like forever. I know how you ache to get back home. It's been proven that we grow most in our pain. God will take this too and use it for good as his word says, "All things work together for good to those who love the Lord". You might say the two of you are away at school but know this, God has a plan and a purpose for the two of you. A plan to prosper, not to harm and he will make you and your family better through this. He feels all your pain because there is nothing that we experience that is not common to him. We're all looking forward to you comming back to our little paradise neighborhood. Finish this race and let God complete the good work he started in you.

We got home and read Ashley's (your favorite child's) wonderful note and the update on the medical "stuff." We so appreciate having a specific prayer list and will be calling on the Lord morning and night for these things to be resolved. In the meanwhile we picture Ann in our mind's "eye" as the healthy, vibrant person she has always been! Our prayers are for Brian and Ashley too as we know Ann's total recovery will also be your total recovery. Love, the Tooles

Hi Ann and Brian- We are hoping you wake up today to some good lab results. That darn pancreas needs a good talking to. I can't imagine what you two are going through but you have each other and that is awesome. As long as you stick together everything will get back to normal. I know it seems so bad right now but keep the faith. God is working on this and has not left you hanging. Everyone is still praying for you and things WILL get better soon. We think of you often and are praying for that lipase enzyme to lower. It sounds like Ashley is doing well (all things considered). These updates are really good to read. They keep us so informed. Take care and do what you can and the rest is up to Him.

Dear Ann & Brian, "Holy Crap", I loved Ashley's e-mail ! Sooo bubbly! We are still praying & thinking of you often & look forward to seeing you both . From your update, I'd say the other Dr.'s need to not "mess" w/ the pain med.'s I know your state of progress now seems too slow, but just remember that this too shall pass - temporary in the whole scheme of things. Sounds like you've been doing LOVELY really. Keep your spirits up, you'll be on your way home soon. Find out when you can jet down to some sunshine! Take care, Love, Kris & Brett

Hey guyssss!!!
Holy crap, the Newlyweds is on so wooooo!! Yall know how much I love that!! :) All right, so what’s new with me? Well... For the past couple day's I've been feverish but I've been pressin on and goin to school (ooh, like my grammar madre? ;-) ). I went to the Doc's yesterday morning and they didn't do much help. Tonight I'm going out with Andrea, Callie, Kayla, Traci, and Ashlee (Traci and Ashlee, you've met them, they came over, I think it was the Friday before we left for Omaha?) Maybe Boogyman? or Coach Carter? And then who knows but I will give you guys a buzzer whatever I do. I wont be having a sleepover cus I need my sleep to help me get better. Hum... What else to say. Mary came over last night to get shoes for Megan cause she's going to Snow... The house is clean!! For real!! Well, as good as it’s going to get. And this morning I forgot a packet of homework at home and so Jeff brought it to school for me so thank goodness for him!!!!! And I got it, it made my day. Andrea's been driving me to school and you wouldn’t believe it, I HAVE BEEN GETTING UP AT 5:15 ALL BY MYSELF, AND IM UPSTAIRS BY 6:30 FOR A HALF HOUR FOR BREAKFAST!! How wonderful!!? I have been getting early release and going home with Kristie so that’s coooooollll... we get home at like 1:15 cus we have to drop so many people off. Alright though, this is a pretty long dang entry, but I thought I should do it because 1.) You told me I should and 2.) Because I haven’t had much of a say on this little web site of yours.

Oh and Dad- I have pics of Omaha if you want me to put them on this site, just let me know.

Ohhh and I love the song by Creed "Stand here with me"... Just thought you'd two like to know MY NEW FAVORITE SONG!!

I miss you two, and I LOVE YOU GUYS LOTTS!!! and come home soon though cus my bathroom needs the toothpaste cleaned out of the sink. HAHA, WOW, SOOO KIDDING, NO TOOTHPASTE IN THE SINK I PROMISE THAT WAS A JOKE. No, but I seriously miss ya guys. But thank goodness we got those nifty cell phones huh dad? Okay, well this is a little too long. I'll post some other time

And It's a shame you cant make your font bigger on this thing... but like imagine this is size 1000000 font....(Oh yes, bold and Italic and underlined too)

I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!

Ann and Brian, Although the numbers mean nothing to my nonmedical mind I still appreciate them. Any update is good because we check the website on a continual basis. We continue to pray for you and wait for news of solid food, a still stomach, and renewed energy.

Ann and Brian- You have no idea what these updates mean to us. I asked Josh if Ashley was feeling better and He looked really surprised that I even knew about it. . He said she is fine and is still going to school. I Know that I would feel just like Ann there in the bed. I have to be moving and keep busy. But Ann you need to "press on" this too will pass and you will look back and it will be like a blink in time. We will keep bringing you before the Father and I will check on Ashley this weekend to see how she is. Paradis family

You're more a part of our lives than you know! At least the sun is shining which makes the days more enjoyable. You keep up the hard work, Ann, and Brian you keep up the updates! Brian,
Thanks for the updates. They sure help in keeping track of you two. You are in our thoughts and prayers--constantly. We will back at the hospital on Monday so we will check to see how things are then.

Husband had nothing solid to eat for like 15 days asI remember....my journal is too full to go back, I just remember the first two times in the hospital (12/02 13 days and 01/03 13 days) were on iv feedings and liquids...totally. Tough times, but hope is still in sight. Don't lose sight of HOPE.

Lord bless you both,
Keep reading, Brian-- try the book of Philippians. My favorite although while husband lay in the bed I read Psalms to him by the hours. He could sleep while I read the comfort passages.

Brian and Ann, I want to be sure that you both know that Ann is doing very well. The pancreas will begin to act right. I am sure it is a minor bump in this road to recovery. I could take a very long time explaining my hospital stay but the short version is that the stay was extended due to a stomach that was very slow to start working. I am praying for Anns pancreas, Ashlys swollen glands, and Brians car. Stay strong and keep walking.

One day at a time. I know that is hard but thngs are definitely improving. A shower and caring what you look like are huge steps forward. You two (three) are doing a great job of keeping each other's spirits up. It was good to see today's update. I had checked two other times before now because we are always so anxious to see how each day goes. I saw Andrea pick up Ashley this morning and she looked good. Brian and Ann, One of the Belly button ladys had a problem with her pancreas that resolved its self. I have asked her to post some info for you. Do track everything. We had to have the doctor order no interruptions at night for me to get some sleep. My husband stayed in the room and like a guard dog would not let anyone wake me up. Also some of the medications they gave me like bendryl only caused anxiety in my case. But I have a strange system. You continue to be in our prayers. You are doing great.

Good evening Ann and Brian,

This morning our Pastor said, "we are instructed to be friends. To be real--not to try and hide behind walls or masks." I thought about how not everyone can handle that task, especially during a major illness.

Thank you Ann, for allowing Brian to post on your behalf. Thank you for being real and asking for prayer. Right now I'm stopping all and praying for One dear ladies fight and one young woman's pancreas. May you experience relief soon.
"Lord, send angels of mercy to Ann. Allow her to rest. Give Brian peace of mind, too. Amen."

Celebrating, giving Thanks and praying that you will continue to grow stronger everyday. Ashley, Lindsay said that everyone is thinking about you at school and keeping up with your Mon's progress. I know you all have so many people willing to help out in anyway. So far ours has been in prayer. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do. I better go now. Remember, Ann.....
You Look SO MUCH better than my dad!! It is so great to hear you're doing so well! Awesome to see the power of God in action!
Psalm 139:13-16 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother's womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous-and how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.
How incredible to know that God knew that this trial would come upon you...and He made your body complex enough to thrive under current pressures and stresses and has prepared you for this situation. God will use this for his great purpose!
Hang in there....ALL OF YOU! Brian and Ashley, I am praying for you just as much as Ann! I know how long the days get!!
Love you all!

Good morning. The Lord is very, very good. I'm thrilled to hear how well Ann is doing. Course, I knew she was doing well, CAN YOU BELIEVE I DREAMED ABOUT HER? Brian you slept in a chair in this little cramped room while Ann and I visited. Somehow she got to close to the edge of the bed and she nearly fell out of the bed onto me....but there were NO TUBES. She looked absolutely great.

What a hoot.
That just shows you how close I feel to you two. Yesterday was pretty quiet day at work and the task I had was one that demanded I not be up running around. I prepped doctor's charges and all the while prayed for you two.

God is so good. Bless you, I'll see you tomorrow IF THE WEATHER HOLDS STEADY. We should arrive at the registration at 6:30-6:45 a.m. Oh joy. No, I have not told husband yet. ARE YOU ALL LAUGHING?

Good morning Ann and Brian,
What a privilege to be close enough to hear your chipper voices before surgery. My prayer is for Peace to surround you as you face this day. Brian, I really believe those waiting rooms need beds. I took two chairs, put them together, curled up, covered up and slept for a couple hours. That's hard to do for a guy--smile.

"Father, pour your comfort and your peace upon this family. Be in charge in the surgery room. Guide Dr. Loggie's hands, and mind. Give him insight where vision is not enough. Bless the team, too. And we will praise you for what you are about to do."

Dear Ann, Brian, and Ashley -

My parents, Don & Cathy Forchas, have kept me informed about your situation and I want to share with you a couple of things. First of all, the three of you and your doctors are in our prayers. My Husband works for a religious book publisher and he's added Ann's name to their daily prayer list.
Secondly, believe in miracles! I say this because you live next door to one - my Mom. In the twenty years since my Mom's illness, there has been no medical reason given as to why she is still alive. Her case is written up in the American Medical Journal. All of our family and friends know it was the power of prayer that saved my Mom AND it's the same power that will save you! May you feel God's strength, comfort, and love during your surgery and recovery.
God Bless You All,

Good morning. I intended to try and find you and talk at you both last night. Instead our oldest daughter called to talk (from Oregon) for over an hour (problems she's never shared with us before.) and then a dear old friend from Washington state called. I can't even tell you how long we were on the phone. Her life is very complicated and she cried for much of the conversation. I love these people dearly and obviously, you have a 'group' with you and probably didn't miss me. (sigh.)

You are in our prayers as you start out this week.
Friday we will be in hospital for testing.....a very long day. I know I can get a hug then....

Ann,

I came across a prayer that I wanted to share with you called "Believe."

Believe you will emerge from this healthier,
with a greater knowledge and respect
for the body you were given.
Believe your family and friends, all the people you've touched, and some you may not even be aware of,
are praying for you to come through this
well and strong.
Believe in the compassion and skill
of your doctors, your nurses, and the loving care of your angels.
Believe life holds many wonderful moments
in store for you
and much for you to accomplish
along the way.
Believe God watches over you,
that He will sit beside you during the long hours
and bless you with whatever strength
you need.

Margaret, Hanna and I continue to keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Ann,

I am an old friend of your cousin, Tod Eggenberger. I met you and your family many years ago. Tod told me of your situation and I was sorry to hear of it. I read through many of the guestbook entries and the updates your husband has put in and it is evident that you are deeply loved. You are wealthy in the way all of us want to be. Ann, it appears that you have met this challenge head on. The attitude that one can elicit from the updates shows me that you are ready. The incredible support displayed here will strengthen you as you prepare for your surgery. I will ask God to give you and your family peace as you face surgery and recovery. God bless.

Dear Ann and Brian, We were at the Cochrane Party last night and we actually met Brian when we first arrived at 7:00pm. Towards the end of the evening I heard about Ann's prayer request. My husband Dave, 15yr old son (Derrick Rangel, who knows Ashley from school), 14yr old Daughter Calli and myself will be praying for you Ann. Because we believe in the power of Prayer we have asked our church to place your Name on the Prayer upraising list. I also have asked my sister in Texas, sister in Forest Lake and my Niece in Kansas to add you to there church Pray list. I will contact Brenda Sweet and help with the pray chain during your surgery as well. I read your messages and can just feel the love people have for you. So many people are praying to a Loving God on your behalf. He listens and answers Prayers.(AMEN)! May the Lord heal you and Hold you in the Palm of his hands.

Dear Bentler family,

Throughout Jeff's hospital stay in May 2003 due to Adenomucinosis, one prayer spoke to us more than any. We hope that you will find it as powerful as we did.
Heavenly Father
I call on you right now in a special way. It is through your power that I was created. Every breath I take, every morning I wake, and every moment of every hour, I live under your power.
Father, I ask you now to touch me with that same power. for if you created me from nothing, you can certainly recreate me. Fill me with the healing power of your spirit. Cast out anything that should not be in me. Mend what is broken. Root out any unproductive cells. Open any blocked arteries or veins and rebuild any damaged areas. Remove all inflammation and cleanse any infection.
Let the warmth of your healing love pass through my body to make new any unhealthy areas so that my body will function the way that you created it to function. And Father, restore me to full health in mind and body so that I may serve you the rest of my life. I ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
You are in our thoughts and prayers during this time. The prayer circle that made it possible for Jeff to recover successfully will now be a part of your prayer chain. Our family and friends may not know you, but in this way, we all know how difficult this time is and we are all thinking and praying for Ann's speedy recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are also with Dr. Loggie so that the Lord will watch over him and give him the power to remove all disease.
God Bless you and your family.

Dear Ann, You have been in my thoughts and prayers, and I would like to share a reading I found in one of my books. "Lord, faith is like a bridge between heaven and earth, between ourselves and you. Faith is spiritual power, an inner strength. My faith rests in you, Lord, who hears my every word and are ready to help me. In my dark hours, may my faith sustain me and be a positive force that keeps me linked to you. Thank you for this wonderful gift of faith." Knowing the faith you and Brian have, and with all the prayers heading your way, God will see you through the surgery and recovery, Remember also, that you have your mom interceding for you and giving you the strengh to fight this battle....I wish you the best of luck, and this is a great sight to keep us all posted. My prayers are with you...Love, Sherry Frattalone

Hello, Ann, Brian, and Ashley,
Thought you might be interested to know that I am another 40-something female Twin Citian who was diagnosed with PMP following an appendectomy in October 2004. I, too, have seen doctors at Methodist Hospital, the U of M, Mayo Clinic, as well as Dr. Loggie. My husband and I, together with my Mpls. internist, like Loggie's sensible, and ultimately less radical approach. My case of PMP is in the early stages, so we are monitoring with tumor markers and CT scans. I have found comfort in meeting others (online, especially the PMP Belly Buttons chat group) who face this disease, and simply want you to know that if you'd like at some point to meet another person with PMP face-to-face, I am just across town. Blessings to you and your family, Ann, as you face the awesome prospect of surgery, chemo, and recovery. You will make it through.
Best wishes.

Good morning Ann, this is Kat in Omaha. Today it is SILENT here. Not a good thing for the busy streets of Omaha. We are in a sleet falling--ice coated street situation. It has not been this silent in years--that I can remember.

Good news, we are getting this over with now so you might enjoy your time while you are here. We did have BALMY weather over Christmas.....

I've sent a note to Brenda to assure her of our prayers.
Lord bless you, kat in Omaha

Ann, Brian and Ashley,
Take comfort that our Lord has a plan and a purpose for each of our lives. (Jeremiah 29:11) We now call on the name of our Sovereign Lord and ask that He heal his daughter Ann. This aligns with the very word God has spoken in Jeremiah 33, "I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security" and "Give thanks to the Lord Almighty, for the Lord is good; and His love endures forever". We love you guys and want to help in any way we can.
