Hi Jason,
My name is Austin, your mom signed my guestbook. I'm happy that you beat cancer. I'm going to keep fighting till I beat it too. I hope you are getting to do a lot of fun things now that you don't have treatments. Right now I can't really do anything because my counts are so low. I feel good so it's hard to stay home and not go do things, because I don't feel sick. Did you have a line or a port? I have a line I'm thinking of getting a port when I start maintenance. I really hate needles so I'm trying to find out how bad it hurts when they stick you. My sister is the same age as you her birthday is the first of march so you are just a little older than her. I hope verything keeps going good for you.

I really have no right to sign this. I suffered the loss of my wife of 28 years and it almost killed me, but to have a child with cancer, I can't fathom it. I saw an episode of Hyway to Heaven about kids with cancer and I ended up in tears. Went online and found this site and your story. Your courage is magnificent, your son a trooper. May God use you to be an inspiration to others lacking hope. My hearts prayers for you and all kids with cancer.

Hi Jason,
I met you last year over at your Aunt Joann's house when we went to the motorcycle climb. I was the lady who had the little tiny dog named Bella "the amazing flying dog". Do you remember how much fun it was to see all of those motocycles ride up the high hill! We got you a cool shirt and the riders signed it for you too. That was really a fun day! I hope I get to see you again this summer because I loved spending the day with you! You are an amazing kid.

"The Strength of an Egg"

Parents of children with cancer are often referred to or viewed as having "strength like a rock". Albeit flattering it is not quite true. It is more like the strength of an egg. An egg you ask? Yes!
If you'll think about it, you'll see my point.

An egg has a polished, smooth outer appearance, with no cracks or weak spots visible. It seems almost inconceivable that the inside might not be
as smooth or solid.

Most children, at some point, are shown the famous egg trick. An egg set at just the right angle can withstand enormous amounts of pressure and cannot be cracked or broken. Yet the same egg, tapped gently at an even
slightly different angle, will break. The contents, once so neatly concealed, will come spilling out. The no-longer perfect shell will be crushed. It looks so fragile that it seems inconceivable that it ever held any strength.

A rock, on the other hand is solid all the way through. To break it is almost impossible. If you succeed, you will find that there is nothing inside but more rock. It takes a lot more than pure hardness to hold the "HAND OF HOPE".

Parents of children with cancer are not solid all the way through. We hurt, we fear, we cry, we hope. It takes a very careful balancing act to keep the shell from being shattered. "Balancing an egg" while running a household,
going for doctors' visits and hospital stays, keeping the family together, and holding on to the constantly unraveling ties of your sanity can be very tricky indeed!

Occasionally, the angle will be off and the shell will break, shattering hope and the neatly secured appearances of a truly fragile existence. Unlike Humpty Dumpty, though, parents of children with cancer will pick
themselves up and put themselves back together again.

Hi Jason,
Welcome to the ALL kids List! I also have a 19 yr. old daughter who shares your birthday, one who is 21 and married and one who just turned 4 yesterday. Leah was dx with ALL in Nov. 2001 and had a bone marrow transplant in Nov. 2003. We celebrated her 100th day post-transplant yesterday along with her b-day.
You look like a precious young boy and sound very brave, too. My oldest daughter went to Johns Hopkins for radiology school. My husband, Ken, is from Baltimore.
I love your picture talking on the phone at the hospital. Leah loves "working" at the hospital also. She is the youngest "nurse in training" at Children's Hospital in DC.
We will keep you all in our prayers!

I know I can count on you, to make us so happy to know you, with your big smile, warm loving, and fun little person that you are. I'm so proud of you. Your my little soldier and hero. This summer I'm have to come over and jump on the "tramp" with you. We'll drag Daddy on too. Ha Ha. Keep up being the sweet little boy you are.

Hi Jason -- you have a great site! I hear you like to swing play weed-eaters around. Careful big guy! I also heard you are so strong you almost took out two people... My son Logan has the same illness you do, and is getting the same treatment. We will have to get you two together some day so you can compare notes on batting techniques. Take care!

Hi Jason and Dawn! Are there any other noodles? I thought there was only OODLES OF NOODLES! We are off steroids thankfully and the noodle phase has once again relaxed a bit. Jason, way to go on your liver numbers. Dawn, IVIG stands for IV Immunoglobulins. Immunoglobulins are what help to fight of viral infections. We found out in December 02 that Connor was born with a low immunoglobulin count. They decided to start him on IVIG to help keep his numbers up. Between being immunocompromised due to chemo and the chronically low IGg level he needs them. Unfortunately it is nasty business to give and takes a loooong time to give it. It needs to take a long time to try to keep the reactions away. Since it is a blood product reactions can occur at any time even after not having any reaction for months. You just never know. Connor got it for 5 months and never had a reaction then he did, out of the blue. But you know what, when he was on it he wasn't in the hospital once. When he isn't on it he is in the hospital at least once a month. The low numbers explain a lot about why he was sick ALL OF THE TIME before he got cancer. We were always taking him to the ER. Anyway, that is IVIG. It is no fun but it is better than being in the hospital.
Hey, how do you get music on the sites?
Love to all of you.

Heya Jason :-)

I saw the link to your page in Kendrie the Kutie's guestbook and followed it. It's very nice to meet you! We have lots in common, you know. We're both Millenium babies, we both got this ALL sick blood thing at 3 years 4 months old, and we're both wasting our time not starting up modeling careers!

Boy, I like the picture of you as a big ol' snowman! That's pretty close to how we all actually dress up here in Canada.

Anyways, I just wanted to say hi and to wish you continued good luck as you sail through treatment :-)

He is on COG-1991 Augmented Protocol for Poor Early Responders. He didn't make it to remission by day 14 so the docs said he HAD to go on this protocol. That's okay though, whatever it took. Anyway, he made it to maintenance in 14 months which was in May 2003. He has a full head of hair now and even has had several haircuts. So, no worries buddy it comes back. His came back darker and thicker than it was originally. Hey, tell your mommy thank you for signing Connor's guestbook. I really like it when people check in and sign in. I like for us to make new friends who are like us. Also, can you tell her that your site is very cool and if she can teach me how to dress ours up I would love to know the tricks. Take care buddy and HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2004 will hopefully be a good one, right?
Love,
Amy

Good Morning Jason and to his family too.....
I know you're in the hospital right now going through your treatments and I'm praying things are going better for you. I will call you at the hospital alittle later on today. Don't want to wake you if you and Mommy are sleeping. I know you like PlayStation games so you'll have to let me know which ones you want. Everytime I look at your picture and see that beautiful smile, I just want to hug and squeeze you. You are a brave little soldier. We'll have to give your Mom some lessons in becoming a sergeant so she can get through the days with you. You are a very active little boy and I am so proud of you that you are able to keep going and going. Maybe we'll give her some roller skates too. You keep up the good work and remember Uncle and I love you very much.
Aunt JoAnn, Donna Jo and I went over to your house last night and we had a Birthday Party for your Mam-Maw. She was surprised. James and Megan helped to open Mam-Maw's presents too. We left some freezer pops in the freezer too. Mam-Maw blew out her candles too. We had a good time. Then Aunt Jacque called and Mam-Maw talked to Aunt Jacque for awhile. We hope you had a good night last night. You remember to get some rest too.

Get used to those fevers and stuff. They come and go a lot during the first year especially.
I can totally relate to your entire intro. When I brought Aizee into the E.R. after months of being told she just had a virus, I never would have thought cancer. Strange how one automatically feels like Alice going through the looking glass.

Hello Jason. My name is Amy and my little boy, Connor, has ALL too. He was diagnosed right before he turned 3. He was considered a poor early responder and was pushed into an augmented protocol. The good news is that he is in maintenance. I know you are pretty early on in your treatment so I wanted you to remember to keep your chin up buddy. It will get better. I will keep checking in on you. Tell your mommy that your website is phenomenal and I may want some advice on getting ours to look a little snappy too.
Good luck to you all.

Hi Jason! This is Amanda. I am your friend from the sixth floor at Johns Hopkins. I am so glad that your condition is imporving greatly! It is so amazing to me that you have so much energy and deal with your condition so well considering you are so young. For the past year i have been debating back and forth on what i want my career to be. I have always wanted to be a pediatric doctor so some kind but now it is clear. I want to work with kids that have cancer/luekemia! Your one of the strongest little boys i have met and i wish nothing but the best for you in the future. I am going to attach my email address to this and would like if you and your mom email me once in a while to let me know how you are doing. GOOD LUCK BOY!!!

Dearest Jason
You sound so much like my little boy, who is now 9 1/2 years old but still loves monster trucks, race car's and motorcycles. I hope and pray you will be stronge and healthy very, very, soon. Who is your favorite monster truck? My husband, Gene has a race car it's called a Willys and if you would like to see it and if mom and dad say it's ok you could take a ride in it too.Have mommy email me and let me know if you would like that. Be brave and may god bless you and your family. Our prayers will be with you.Sincerely the Shillman Family

It will be alot of fun when you are old enough to come to Churchville. I am going to pass this on to some of my friends who live out of town, so they can write to you too!!!!! Keep up the good work. You are doing great. Give your mom and dad a big hug for me. Love, Ms. Judy

God bless the children fighting this illness and the parents who endure the heartache. Dawn and Owen my love to you both and Jason and your family are in my prayers. Seeing Jason go through this ordeal makes the daily issues we deal with seem trivial and for me gives me hope that God is watching over the good ones . All my love and prayers your friend Keith.

This website on Jason is the sweetest thing I have ever read. I know this little boy and I know that everything his Mom said about him is true. He is a brave little man and a happy one too. His parents are real troopers too. I give them all the credit in the world for handling this situation as they have. They have a sweet little boy and he is as cute as a button. One thing I know for sure, Jason keeps them stepping. No sitting down with him around!!!! He's precious. I know this too because I am his Great Aunt. Jason's Mom is my niece but we consider her as a daughter. Jason's brother James and his sister Megan are truly tough, little troopers themselves. They have to deal with a tough schedule and some tough days too and they get through those days. It's hard on them too but they go on like real troopers. We love this family and always pray for them and keep them close in our hearts. We love them and pray their spirits and strength will get them all through this time.
