Hi Cari, My heart goes out to you and your family. Disease of any kind is horrible on a day to day basis. My soon-to-be 5yr. old grandson has Tubular Sclerosis. He has non-malignant tumors in his brain and heart. A very rare genetic anomaly, he has several kinds of seizures. Although many meds. have been tried, they do not prevent all of them.
Although this condition is different from your daughters, it is a constant in all of our lives. Wyatt, my grandson is a tall, strong boy. He does not speak and has difficulty with eye contact. His diet is extremely limited to protein and fat with almost no carbs. and sugars.
I think of you often and hope there is a break in research that will improve the quality of life for all disease ridden patients. Let me know when your are in the Naples area. I'm still here.

Those of you that know me, know what a Disney FREAK I am. I mean, I love love love it there. But I had never really seen magic until I went to Disney with Jessie! Jessie found magic in people watching, she found magic in french fries and grapes for lunch, she found magic with Mickey (who is THE MAN, incidentally, in Jessie's eyes), she found magic enough to say "dogdogdog" for the first time in YEARS! I don't think I will EVER have a trip to Disney that will come close to this one. Thank you, Jessie, for letting me and Uncle Dan be a part of it. We love you more than anything in the world.

Carrie, you may want to bring some of jessie's bath soap with you to wash and soothe her skin once the casts are removed, otherwise you'll have to use that hospital soap...lotion too, those casts really are drying. I wish I had thought of that when Bryce had his first taken off when he was born he had thigh high ones for his curve in his feet and legs. He had them til he was three months old. Your journal entry fills me with hope. It's wonderful to hear how fulfilled Jesse's days have become. I'm praying that Cooper's immune system comes back enough so he is able to attend school in the fall. I think the stimulation they receive from a school setting is pivotal in their recovery. They too long for a sense of NORMALCY!! Bravo to both of you for hanging in there during the tough times because it has brought you to where Jesse is today.

Hi Jessie and family. Hope you are all doing well and looking forward to spring. We have actually had a sunny, blue sky day here in SC today. I thought of you and all of the MPS sweeties on Friday as we released lots of purple(and one white) balloons at Izzy's school. I said a prayer for all MPS families as the balloons lifted up. Izzy's mom got a phone call yesterday from a lady who had found one on the beach a few hundred miles from us. The wind was blowing to the east that day, so maybe just one made a transatlantic journey. You are a beautiful little girl, Jessie. Stay healthy.

Thank YOU for that sweet entry. It gives me HOPE. Lately, I have been feeling as if we will never survive transplant, and knowing Jessi is thriving gives me so much satisfaction. Dear Cari and Matt,
As I read your post, I knew how true your words are. You were one of the first to offer me support when Bobby's transplant was scheduled, and I realized, right then, that we had moved over into a new world, and that we would never be the same. Some days I just can't believe the grace that I have felt in the midst of fear. It is as if all the people who have helped us (you included) are angels. And I do think that may be true. Like you, I can sleep a little more easily now, but every day give thanks for the miracles of friedship, good medical care, and the big community of saints.

Always, Robin

Dear Matt and Cari,

Blessings of the season to you! And blessings (belatedly) on Dylan's baptism. I loved reading your story. And, today, I will be thinking about that Christmas pageant at NHCC - one that I know very well. Bobby went from a sheep in the manger to Herod. I am not sure whether he ever played Joseph, because he made SUCH a good King Herod that they kept asking him to reprise that wicked chuckle.

I still keep you in my prayers, and I will do especially today. We are so blessed - all of us - in our connections to one another.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday! I glad the surgery went well. I wanted to tell you about my Jesse. He had knots in both of his achilles tendons, and docs didn't really want to do anything about it really. I started him with some neuromuscular massage and connective tissue massage and the therapist massaged those knots out in 2 seesions. They remain gone still 4 months later. It might be something worth checking into for tightness in the muscles as well.
I check in often and keep your family in prayer!

Happy to hear about Jesse's first day of school. Are you sure that one of the dog's didn't eat Dylan's cake? Mary used to be an expert at sneaking things which she didn't want to eat to the dogs. Lorraine and Ron

I was so happy to hear about the first day of school and Dylan's birthday. I love that Jessie's little friends are so protective and that she clearly doesn't have separation issues. With all she's been through, it's amazing that she does not fear school. Alot of Faith's classmates cry every day, and they have had none of the obstacles that Jessie had. Just one more example of something you already know...she's a phenomenal kid and you've obviously helped her develop her self confidence. You should be really proud. The first day of nursery school is such a big deal, and I'm so happy that Jessie gets to enjoy this experience.
Love,

Cari,
This is Chris Adams, Bryces dad. I just wanted to thank you for sharing your experiences with my wife Koren. It is tough not to be there for her right now, and it helps to know she has support there and from those who have been through the transplant process already. I am heading down to Duke for transplant day and cant wait to see them. I wish I could take all the girls as well but I think it would be very difficult to get the girls to leave after a couple of days with them, and if one of them got sick in the process of getting there and couldnt see them it would be devastating. Thanks again for being so supportive, I still can't believe this is happening.

Cari and Matt,
How great to get a night out (and what GREAT service)!! And, how nice is it to get to bring Jessie to therapy so she can get a change of scenery! I really believe Frankie will also perk up more (if that's even possible) when allowed out of the house to play with someone else's toys. I think the kids will also respond amazingly with other children. Right now, Frankie's reflection in the mirror is his best friend!
Hope all is well and that Dylan will agree with the walking request. I'll cross my fingers for you! :)

Hello,

I can picture it now and boy do I remember those days! There were a few months that John and Ciara were back in California and that left Tommy, Hunter and myself at Duke. Of course every time we went to clinic, Tommy would take off running in one direction and Hunter would go in the other. I was left standing there looking back and forth wondering which one will cause the most damage, who do I chase first!? Thank God you have wonderful nurses who help you out!

We hope Jessie is feeling better! Benjy also had a stomach bug...Dr. Kurtzberg cultured everything and determined it was the "small round virus"...apparently also known as the "winter vomit disease"!! Anyway, Benjy's been getting IVIG in his feeding tube for the past 3 weeks and (knock on wood) he's doing remarkably well. Just food for thought...in case they didn't check Jessie for that particular virus. We continue to keep Jessie in our prayers..she certainly is a fighter! Great news about the MRI!!

The truth is, I have always been connected through my prayers for Jessie (and for all of you.) I will continue to pray--now more fervently than ever-- for Jessie's health. Your strength inspires me. Dear Jessie,
You do not want to acquire your friend Kate's eating habits, or lack thereof. Hopefully you will rebound in terms of appetite once you get rid of these awful stomach bugs. It sounds like enough to rob anyone of the desire to eat. Why does all of this have to be so hard for such little people?

Hi strangers! I just wanted to pop you a note to say "hi" and check in on Jessie and Dylan. I'm sorry to read about Jessie's persistent rash. But, I'm sure the visit back down to Duke will ease your minds just that much more.

The clinic in Boston sounds wonderfl! I'm kinda jealous. There is only one isolation room at Frankie's clinic. Thankfully, he's really the only child that really needs it, so he takes precedence.

I hope the two little ones are doing well.

Cari
I have a freezer full of food! I make Michael something and he eats a bite or two and then looks at me so sad. So I just freeze the meal for myself to be eaten later. I have learned to cook "big" when other family is around, that way it gets eaten. Michael kids me that I have become a TV dinner queen since that is what I buy for him - that way it is safe, not a lot of food and he can look at the choices and decide what he can handle eating right at that moment.
I am sure that if Jessie could tell you, she would be saying the same thing - I thought it would taste good, but YUCK!
hugs!

Guys,
Things it's sometimes awkward to say when making someone's coffee: I am so in awe of your strength through everything you and Jessie are going through. I am impressed with the character and will that it takes for the three of you to just get through a day, and especially, through it all, that you remain compassionate and friendly, wonderful people. I'm honored to have met you and will miss seeing you in the mornings. Thank you for allowing me to feel connected to such good people. You three are my heroes. I wish you all the best and continue to pray for Jessie. Good luck, and I will stay in touch.
