Wednesday, July 29, 2009 9:23 PM CDT First of all, I want to apologize for the long delay since our last update. We have tried to update several times in the last couple of months but have not been able to access the update page. Fortunately, Yvette was able to get on tonight, so here we are.
Alot has happened since our last update. In June, Coleson was chosen as the grand marshall of the Hall Summit, La. Good Ole Days Festival. He got to lead the parade and was the star of the weekend. The festival commitee had several different functions throughout the weekend to help raise money for Coleson's medical expenses, including an auction, a raffle, and other activities. The response was OVERWHELMING. We can never thank the people of Hall Summit and the surrounding area enoughfor the support, kindness, and love shown to us.
July 5 was the two year anniversary of Coleson's transplant. He (and we) has come so far in those two years. He went to Houston for his two year checkup and got a great report. All of his numbers were good, bones were strong, and lungs are getting more clear all the time. He continues to have his hip issues, but even that seems better now. He goes back for a hip checkup in October. Praise be to God for the amazing miracles we have watched him do with Coleson over the past two years. And the best is yet to come.
Perhaps the most amazing part of this story is the following. Because of the large amounts of iron in Coleson's body from all of the years of transfusions, his ferritin count continues to be quite high. This iron needs to be removed from his body. The best way to do this is through phlebotomy. Yes, phlebotomy where they actually take blood out of your body. So Coleson has gone from needing blood every month just to survive to actually needing blood removed from his body, with no worries of if he will be able to make it back. So he has literally gone from one end of the spectrum to the other.
Please continue to pray that Coleson's hip will improve and that the bone and hip socket will be back in their normal position. Also, please lift up the phlebotomy issue that he will be safe and there will be no complications from the procedure. Also, continue to pray for clear lungs, a good appetite, and continued growth.
Thank you for continuing to check on Coleson and our family and for lifting us up each day. Although we continue to make progress, we still have a journey ahead.
Amazed by His goodness,
Alan
