Valentines...... To Heaven

This Valentine is not of the ordinary kind,
Its still filled with love...and blessings inside;
But mine has to be sent on the wings of love...
You see its destination is the Heavens above.

Its not being sent to my parents so dear,
For they are still with me each day of the year;
Its being sent to my child...who left earth so soon,
Who's now in the Heavens with the stars and the moon.

The message is the same as your valentine,

And its sent with hugs and kisses...from me to you."

Dear Mr. Hallmark,

I am writing to you from heaven, and though it must appear,
A rather strange idea, I see everything from here,
I just popped in to visit, your stores to find a card,
A card of love for my parents, as this day for them is hard,
There must be some mistake I thought, every card you can imagine,
except I could not find a card, from a child that lives in heaven,
they are still a parent too, no matter where I reside,
I had to leave, they understand, but oh the tears they cried,
I thought that if I wrote to you, that you would come to know,
that though I live in heaven now, I still love my parents so,
they talk with me, and dreams with me, we still share laughter too,
memories are our way of speaking now, would you see what you can do?
my parents carry me in their heart, their tears they hide from sight,
they plants flowers in my garden, there my living memory dwells,
they writes to other grieving parents, trying to ease there pain as well,
so you see Mr. Hallmark, though I no longer live on earth,
I must find a way, to remind her of her wondrous worth,
they need to be honored, and be remembered too,
just as the children of the earth will do,
thank you Mr. Hallmark, I know you will do your best,
find a way to tell them, how much they mean to me,
until I can do it for myself, when she joins me in eternity.


I know Christmas must be so hard for you although I can't comprehend how difficult it must be.

It has been way toooooo long since I've written or chatted with you. Just no excuses...I still think about your beautiful Maddie all the time. Maddie is one of the strongest, most beautiful little souls I've been blessed to meet. Whenever I need to smile I just come by to see her beautiful face :) Truly beautiful! Well I just popped over to see if there was anything new going on and there was a new update!!! So glad to hear things are going well. Miss Madison is definitly a trooper. Happy Belated Birthday to Taylor, we hope it was a special day. I certainly understand your worry about germs and stuff, ask anyone around me, I was officially the germ queen:-) I walked around sanitizing everything all day and clorox wiping all her baby furniture and everything everyone touched! I also carried around hand sanitizer for people to use if they wanted to touch her. I was awful. So I can definitly relate there! I think it's normal though Laura, so don't worry.

I am sorry that you are having such a hard time with the doctors. We were very lucky to have some very strong and outgoing doctors on our team. If we ever had to come involved with a difficult doctor, our regular doctor would solve any problems with them before we had too. I sometimes think that doctors lose their ability of compassion and understanding. There will be a time and place when we don't have to worry of sickness and mean doctors, until then all we can do is pray for everyone's comfort and safe keeping!

To Maddie's Mommy,

You certainly aren't rambling :) Your update was great, thanks so much for letting us know how your beautiful girl is doing. I'm so glad that Maddie's therapy is going well. Chloe too finally got to the point where she enjoyed therapy again, it warmed my heart to know that her little body had relaxed and didn't feel the pain that it did early on in the progression of the disease. Ohhhhh & doctors, Laura I can certainly relate to your feelings and emotions. It took us a long time to finally find the perfect, most loving, compassionate and kind doctor for Chloe. He was well worth the wait. It is sad that being compassionate isn't a requirement of the job. But I guess it is up to us to try and share some of our compassion with them and show them the beauty and miracles that our children are. Somehow, someway we need to get through to some of these thick-skulled docs. Maddie is a very lucky little girl and boy is she ever gorgeous!!!

Keep your chin up and know that there are so many of us who know what you are feeling and that love you.

I hope Maddie is over her infection soon, poor sweetie.

Some friends of the Caringbridge Website have set up a little group who visit each others websites. They "adopt" each other by sending messages of support. I am sure they contacted you. After looking at quite a few Caringbridge websites I came upon Maddie's. When I saw the picture of her in the red dress looking like such a beautiful baby doll, I just had to "adopt" her site. She is such a beautiful baby with a beautiful name! I have learned quite a bit about Krabbes disease after reading your links. Before this, I had never heard of it. It sounds like such a horrible devastating disease.... My heart just breaks for you. Having a son who has been battling a pediatric cancer (Rhabdomyosarcoma) for over 5 years now, I know what you are going through. My son is being treated at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in NYC.
So aside from signing your guestbook every now and then, please know I will also be remembering you, and your family in my prayers.

I am glad to hear the Maddie does not have pneumonia. You are right...pneumonia sets in quickly and the winter months are the most difficult. Makayla got pneumonia three times last year. We felt like we live at the Children's Hospital. I sure hope her ear infection gets better. I know that these children are prone to these as well because of all the secretions. They are unable to manage their secretions. I will continue to keep little Maddie in our prayers. Maddie is close in age to Makayla. Makayla was born in April. You are doing a great job. I sure hope that you are getting some rest Laura. I know how long the nights can get with these children. God Bless

I just looked at Maddie's website for the first time. What a beautiful little girl she is. I know how devastating this horrible disease is. My granddaughter Makayla has krabbe. She too went to Duke with hopes of a transplant but it was decided to leave it in the hands of God also because of the progression of the disease in her. I respect your very difficult decision. Never second guess yourself. You are making the best decision that you know at this time for your daughter. Only you know her best and what you want for her. I hope and pray God will give you lots of time to build memories with Maddie and to enjoy her, and God willing - bless you with a miracle of making her better. Glad to hear you will all be together soon. Dr Kurtzberg also recommended Ativan for Eden when we went down to Duke in May, it works really well, but she builds a tolerance to it so easily and she's now up to 4 1/2 ml's 3 times a day which is quite a bit, and it also makes her very sleepy. I'm glad it makes her comfortable but at the same time when she started on that medication she very rarely opened her eyes after that and she got that medicated look in her eyes from that point on. So I just wanted you to know that yes it does make them more comfortable but at the same time the wide awake and alert baby seems to disapear almost overnight. Just thought you'd like to know.
We think of you all often and hope your all doing well. We know too how hard that decision was to come home, but we feel we made the right one for our family as I'm sure you will too. Keep us posted on your precious girl.

That little Madison (love her name!) is a beauty. I'm so glad you have a webpage now. Just 5 months ago we were also in your situation trying to make the best decision possible for our little Eden. We were hopeful but we also knew in our hearts that the best thing for Eden was to take her home for we didn't feel that she would make it through transplant or have any kind of normal life after.
