Sorry to hear Patrick isn't doing well. Shingles is definitely no fun. Brody was put on neurontin for the nerve pain, and it really helped him. They had him on morephine at first but he refused to take it after the first two doses because he hated the way it made his head feel. I'm guessing codiene is pretty stong but maybe the neurontin would help aleviate some of Patrick's pain. I will say a prayer for him to feel better soon. Please let me know if there is anything I can do. Tell Patrick we're thinking of him.

Hey Patrick & Sarah,

Sorry to hear you have shingles. They are definitely no fun. I'm glad to hear you're feeling better though. However, if the itching flares up and you just can't stand it have your mom try Aveeno Anti-Itch Cream with Calamine & Pramoxine HCI, this really helped relieve Brody's itching.

Sarah, thank you for the kind words in Brody's guestbook. I really appreciate it. Hopefully we'll get this problem worked out.

Hi Patrick! I have just visited your website and am very impressed with your courage! My name is Waleli and I have 2 little boys named Patrick & Bryan. We will keep you and your family in our prayers everyday. Patrick, you are a special inspiration to us all. I am Cherokee Indian and wanted to share with you a few special Cherokee words[my Patrick and Bryan helped pick the words]: dohiyi[doe-hee-yee] means: I wish you peace. Osiyo Oginali[o-she-yo oh-gi-na-lee] means:hi my friend. To say "I love you" in Cherokee is: gvgeyui[gah-gay-yoo-ee]. Howa, means: ok or alright. A kind person of soul, truth is : u'da'nuh't[oo-dah-nuht].
Lastly there is no word in our language for goodbye, instead we say:Until we meet again: (dah-nah-gah-goh-huhn-yuhn) WE truley wish you the very best. You have friends in high places :)You nor your family are not to ever feel alone!

Patrick,

Wow, the "Battle of the Blasts" is almost over. That is awesome news!!! We want to know if you would like 4 tickets to go see the Indianapolis Indians play the Louisville Bats on Sept. 2 at Victory Field(5:30 game). I bid on them at a Make-A-Wish fundraiser in Louisville and Patrick's brother has a soccer tournament that same weekend in Ohio. The first person we thought of was you. We heard you like baseball and want to help you celebrate your end of treatment. Have your mom e-mail us if your family can use them.We have never been to Victory Field so I do not know much about the seats except that they are in Sec. 217, Row C , Seats 1-4.
Congratulations on end of treatment!

Hi. I found your site thru Patrick McSweeney's in Ky. My daughter Karen was diagnosed with ALL May 19, 2005. She has done amazingly well. We are all so plased with her overall health almost one year later. I'm also a nurse who graduated from IUPUI there in Dec. 1985. My first thought was to drive her up there to Riley when she was diagnosed here at Kosair's. My family lives in Carmel and Muncie,IN for the most part. My Dad and his wife live in Nashville, TN. I thought about Vanderbilt too. My husband and his parents are here though. I've lived here in Louisville,KY since 1989 myself. Riley was where I had done my clinicals back in nursing school, and then I'd worked at IU Hospital for 6 years prior to moving down here. Anyhow, I'm pleased with our overall progress, and treatment here at Kosair's. I feel I made a good decision for us. It's interesting though to read about an Indiana boy nonetheless. Karen will be 6 years old May 24th. She is my only child. I'm kind of an older Mom I guess! She is a very standard risk leukemic child. She's getting the usual 1991 protocol from St. Jude's I believe. She'll be finished in the fall/winter of 2007. She was able to start and finish Kindergarten this year at a public school without too much trouble. We feel blessed. I guess I just wanted to connect to someone from my old stomping grounds. I'm sorry if I'm rambling on. Goodnight and God Bless you! I became a Catholic myself when I was married the first time in 1991. I have always loved the Catholic faith and its' deep traditions. Louisville has a huge Catholic congregation. We chose public school for Karen secondary to the unknown cost of the medical treatments, etc. in the beginning, but I have no regrets there either. God is good. Thanks for such an interesting story, and website. PS...Karen's Grandpa here is a huge fisherman! He cannot wait to get her out fishing with him again soon. Goodnite for now. Hi Sarah,
I am glad to hear that Patrick is feeling better and I hope his stomach pain improves. I was hoping to get in touch last week. We came up to Indi. to go to the waterpark. It was a very last minute thing because there was a virus going around our house and I waited to see if my Patrick would get it. Luckily, he stayed fever free and we stayed overnight at the hotel and he got to swim. I saw Mary and she was filling me in on Patrick. I really hope to meet you and your son someday. I am so happy that he only has 7 more months of treatment. Tell him to stay strong, he is almost at the finish line. God Bless.

Patrick, I'm glad to see that your counts are improving. What have you been doing during your x-mas break from school? Meg went sledding with friends 1 day and William went to a sports camp at the university for 3 days and the coaches worked on football, volleyball, baseball, basketball, rock climbing, frisbee, track...he came home very tired each night. What fun stuff did you get for x-mas? Did you have fun in Chicago? Thinking of you. Hope that we get to see you in Feb--what are the dates that you'll be visiting? Love, Aunt Kitty

Hi Sara and Patrick, I guess we missed you at the clinic today. Dustin was in for a spinal tap. We were the first one's in the procedure room, and we were out of there by 12:00. we met another little boy diagnosed Dec. 1. His name was Brody, and he was six and in the first grade. I was able to share a few pointers with his mom. It seems we have been doing this clinic business forever, and we still have a year to go. I also noticed your school does Market Day. I used to be a rep for Market Day, but had to give it up when Dustin got sick. Now I am a volunteer at his school too. Have a very Merry Christmas!!! Love Cecelia

Hello Patrick. My name is Mrs. Reeves and I was Dean LeCompte's first and second grade teacher! I just visited his site, I do that often, and read the message from you. So I thought I would check out your site too! I love the pictures and you like Dean certainly have a winning smile!

I am going to add you to my prayer list with Dean for a speedy recovering. I don't see Dean as often as I would like even though he is now a 4th grader in my school.

So Dean taught you how to "torture" the nurses huh! Well Dean would know!

Wishing you and your family a Happy Holiday Season and only the BEST of NEW YEARS! Mrs. Reeves (aka to Nancy and Scott Dean's mom and dad as Lois)

Patrick, We had such a good time visiting with you and Katherine last week. Our trip home was VERY long (do you remember how long the trip is? 8 hours!!!) and boring. It was so good seeing you like your old self--running around and playing with the cousins. William had a wonderful time playing at your house. We all watched "Bewitched" when we got home on Sun (Katherine gave it to Meg)but I fell asleep so I'll have to watch it again. We pray that you continue to feel well. We'll hopefully see you in Feb. Hi Patrick, Uncle Randy and I both sent Birthday wishes that never got posted. We use AOL and this site says that there are often problems with it... Oh well, I hope this note reaches you. I am very happy that you are doing better. I hope you got to eat icecream on your birthday. I called to sing "Happy B-D" to you, but you were sound asleep. (I forgot about the time change.) I did get to talk to Katherine..... great job on your straight A's Katherine! It was Uncle Randy's birthday on the 7th also. He turned 50. He didn't feel much like celebrating, but Andrea and I took him out for pizza anyway. We're going to Madison this weekend to go to a Badger game. We're taking Aunt Kitty and Uncle Pat with us. Andrea and her roommates are coming down too. We're going to celebrate Emily's birthday with her and Steve. Well, I'll look forward to seeing you at Thanksgiving. I hope you have lots more good news for us then. Love, Aunt Jane

I haven't checked your web page in awhile. It sounds like you had a great vacation. We didn't do much this summer because Meg and William have been so busy. How is school? M and W just started last Thurs (9/1/05) so they have only been there for 3 days. Hope that you're having fun. We'll see you in Nov. Love, Aunt Kitty
