Happy to see an update. We made our annual trip back to Minnesota March 20 thru April 2. We did it over a 2 week span because of all the test involved and Mom and Dad did'nt want to rush things... Alot happened and now Tommy is getting ERT...Kaitlyn is doing great. She knows her ABC's and counts to 20 and even counts backward from 10 to 1....She starts Pre K in a week. While we were there we visited with Jen and Taylor. Kaitlyn is taller than Taylor and her brother. She is 3 ft. 2 inches....Tommy is only 3 ft....Anthony make sure you keep your parents on their toes while you recovery....would love to hear from ya'll...Our annual golf tournament is August 8th this year...Take care...

Needless to say - tears are running down my cheeks.. I've been exactly where you are and you have every right to be scared. The vent is a scary thing, I know, just talk to him, let him know you are there, and kiss him as much as possible. Here is a prayer I used when Reese was going thru the very same thing...

Father, You formed us in our mother's womb and established the number of our days before there was even one of them. You are intimately acquainted with all of our ways, and nothing escapes Your notice.

Jesus, You are the Great Physician, and there is nothing too difficult for you. So we bring Tony before you now, and ask that you would touch him with Your almighty power. Your word says that "You hear the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry." Hear us now, as we cry out to you and answer us in this time of need.

Touch his body Lord, with the strength he needs to fight this pneumonia and heal his lungs so that he may recover quickly. Your Word declares that it's by your stripes that we are healed, so I take hold of that promise for Tony right now, and I proclaim your provision for his healing. Let Your peace overshadow him, and Your presence be his comfort at this time. I pray in Jesus mighty name, Amen!

My heart is with you....

I appreciate the fact you guys choose to focus on the good things that are happening and trusting God with the rest. What a great inspiration and encouragement to others, especially when so many people think they have it so bad. I just prayed before logging on to thank God for what I have - I'm lucky compared to alot of people. Thanks again for your optimism. Gina, hopefully you will get some well-deserved rest. We check the web site EVERY night to update on his condition and relay information to Dave and Marianne, who don't have a computer. We're all watching vigilently and praying for all good things. You are all incredibly strong. It has given us something TRULY important to hope for. We can't wait to see how Anthony's next phase of treatment goes. Know that you are loved and that we're here if you need us. P.S. Thanks for the new pictures too!

Moline, IL - Thursday, November 13, 2003 1:33 PM CST

I had originally planned to visit as many caringbridge sites as possible, and leave some encouraging words, prior to my daughters passing. Unfortunately her passing came sooner than we had expected, but longer than any of her doctors expected.

Another angel takes flight.

My daughter Pam had a brain tumor and was fighting the fight since November 4th, 2002, after the birth of her daughter (Casey Morgan). My youngest daughter, Karen, set up a caringbridge website for Pam. Karen's friends mother shared a prayer with us, that I would like to share with you and Tony. It's called DON'T QUIT:
Don't Quit -
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will, When the road you're trudging seems all uphill, When the funds are low and the debts are high, and you want to smile, but you have to sigh, When care is pressing you down a bit - Rest if you must, but do not quit. Life is queer with its twists and turns, As every one of us sometimes learns, And many a fellow turns about, When he might have won had he stuck it out. Don't give up though the pace seems slow - You may succeed with another blow. Often the goal is nearer than it seems to a faint and faltering man; Often the struggler has given up when he might have captured the victor's cup. And he learned too late when the night came down, How close he was to the golden crown. Success is failure turned inside out - The silver tint of the clouds of doubt, And you never can tell how close you are, It may be near when it seems afar, So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit, It's when things seem worst that you mustn’t quit.(Just call on Jesus).

I would also like to share a saying that was on the card my wife Diane picked out, and we bought for Pam:

If you were a star
That wasn’t expected back
In the universe
For a thousand years,
I’d wait.

If you were the sky
And everyone went inside
When you got sad
And started to rain,
I’d stay.

And if you were a peach
And the world decided to get rid of all peaches,
I’d pick you up,
Put you in my pocket…

AND KEEP YOU…. FOREVER..

Prayers have scientifically been proven to work.

REMEMBER NEVER GIVE UP THE FIGHT. You are in our prayers. GOD bless you all.

Hello Anthony and family,
You might not know me very well Tony, but I worked with your mother while she was pregnant with you and your sister. I also know how much she was anticipating your birth, as did I (you would never guess how many times she would have to go to the bathroom and leave me alone in the classroom). Gina & Joe,
It was nice to see little Anthony out of his room on his Mom's lap today. Even if all I could see was a bit of bald head over the top of his face mask (why are they so big?) it was still a treat in this otherwise forgettable day for us. Thank you for mentioning us in your update, your support is much appreciated. Hopefully they'll find a way to cool those fevers down and make your little guy more comfortable. You guys are doing a great job.

lol Tony sounds alot like my little guy. Caleb had the nurses at St. Jude wrapped around his little fingers, first by blowing kisses and then winking at them. Now he even says "Hey Baby!"
Tony remains in our thoughts and prayers. The first few weeks are the hardest.

There is no doubt about it - transplant sucks! It is heartbreaking that our kids have to go through so much. In our heads we know it is necessary, but in our hearts we wish it didn't have to be done. I am so sorry to hear Anthony is feeling so sick and I wish I could take it all away for you. I know the heartache you feel when you look at him and I am sorry! big day today, we cross fingers here in netherland that the coming 10 days will be not so hard. Both of my childs, Barnabas and Charliza, had their BMT's 6 and 4 month ago. It's after 2am here in room 7 and that means that technically it's Day 0 right now! Max and I are rooting for you! ATG is a bear, but it's temporary. Day 0 brings new cells and you just have to keep reminding the old ones to get out of the way and let the new roommates take over. After all, they've got the enzyme you need so tell the other guys be nice! CONGRATULATIONS!!!

So glad that the chemo hasn't made Anthony too ill. Don't worry about the NG tube. It makes life a lot easier as the medication can be given straight down the tube which helps as most of the medication tastes awful.

Hello Tony and Family!! I just wanted to give you a little warning as I do all families whose children are about to receive ATG. When Aaron received ATG it really hit him hard. He was very sick and ran high fevers. I am not telling you this to scare you but rather to inform you that once it is out of his system in a couple of days he will be just fine. Hopefully he will not have a reaction at all but if he does it will go away soon. When Aaron was in the hospital it was when he received ATG that he was at his sickest. No one told me that it would cause him to be so sick so I was scared when it happened but like I said it will only be a couple of days (if he has a reaction) and he will be feeling good again. I am checking in everyday and praying every night for the Tiger!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, unfortunatley, delays do start in the begining and don't seem to end sometimes. Be patient as once you start, you will not believe what kind of roller coaster ride you got on! Riley was to be transplanted in November and due to his lung issues was delayed all the way to March. But it was fine for us, as we made it through it all and he is doing fine, fifteen months out. Try to keep yourself busy over the next several days. Find some places to go and get out and enjoy for now. The next several months may not allow to much of that. Even just drive around and see the state, it is really pretty. Hang in their and keep your spirits high! May God Be With You.

I work as a nurse casemanager and deal with insurance authorization and delays everyday. Is there something I can do to help? Do you have an e mail for insurance adjustor? Maybe a stream of e mails from everyone would "help" put Tonys file on the top of the adjustors pile. Please e mail me back if you think I could be of assistance. Gail

Hello fellow Hurler family... This is ^^REESE's^^ mom.. My Hurler baby had a transplant at Duke in December last year but the Lord felt He needed him more than I did. I still follow many Hurler children and now I'll be adding Anthony to my 'favorites'. He's is truly a cutie and reminds me of Reese before transplant. I wish for you all nothing less than a successful transplant but remember - transplant is never smooth - there are many bumps... Hi Tony and family, my name is Cathy Peters and my daughter Isobel (Bella) had two bone marrow transplants for Hurler Syndrome. Sadly Bella left us to go to Heaven on April 10 of this year.

I have been following several and by several I mean about 20 children going through transplant to treat Hurler's and I have added your sweet baby to my list. I want you to know that if I can help in any way please don't hesitate to ask. I know that emotions are high for you right now but remember that you are in good hands and Tony will have amazing prayer support from all of the Caringbridge Family!!!

It sounds like Tony is in good shape facing transplant so stay strong and know that you are not alone!

Hello and Welcome to the Minnesota Hurler Bubble....at least that is what some of us transplant Hurler Moms and Dads called it. Anthony is truely a "Handsome Hurler Dude!" Our son Riley was diagnosed at 25 months. Riley went through two BMTs in Minneapolis last year. He is now fifteen months out and is four years old. He attends pre-school and is doing great. You will be in our thoughts and prayers as you continue through this journey. Keep your chins up and never lose your faith. These Hurler babies are really strong, just wait and see!

Hello Tony and Family. My name is Trisha Athy and my son Aaron had a transplant in February for Hurlers. We too went to the University of Minn. Aaron is now 8 months post transplant and doing extremely well. He just got his hickman out two weeks ago. Today was his last day on his immune surpressant. I know there is a long and difficult road ahead of you but remain hopeful because soon you will be in my place with a boy that has more enzymes than he knows what to do with. If you need anything please send me an e-mail and I will try to help you the best I can but with all of the other Hurler Parents up there I think you got it covered. God Bless you all!!!
