Christopher Schwier was diagnosed with stage 3 high risk neuroblastoma (treated as a stage 4) on 3/14/03 just one month before his 2nd birthday. His tumor was 17x12x9cm. It had compressed his left kidney, displaced his aorta to the right side, incased his ureter, compressed his heart and his lungs. He went through 5 rounds of chemotherapy, surgery to remove the tumor, 1 round of high dose chemo with a stem cell transplant, 14 radiation treatments, and 6 months of accutane at Cardinal Glennon Childrens Hospital in St. Louis MO. He also had 9 rounds of monoclonal antibodies (3f8) at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York. He is currently considered ned (no evidence of disease).

He has been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (2-11). He is currently taking blood pressure medication to help with some of the problems caused by the kidney disease.

He has two brothers...Brandon (his twin) and Aaron. He also has an older sister named Amanda.

So much has happened since my last update. Chris is doing well. However he was recently diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. He has 65idney function right now. He is taking blood pressure medication daily for hypertension. It also helps to lower the amount of protein in his urine. He will have a biopsy of his right kidney sometime in the near future to check for inflammation. If there is inflammation then he will have to start high dose steroid treatment. The biopsy will also tell us what type of kidney disease this is and give a better idea of how bad it is.

Our daughter Amanda got married last May and gave birth to our first grand daughter Bailey. She had a traumatic entrance. She was born at 37 weeks. My daughter was very sick and no one knew what was wrong. She went to the hospital but was not dilating so she was sent home. She new something was not right so within a couple hours went back to the hospital. Turns out that probably saved her and Baileys life. My daughter was diagnosed with hellp syndrome which is a life threatening form of pre eclampsia. Her platelets dropped to 7000 before they decided to do a c-section. Her blood pressure was high, her liver was enlarged and her kidneys were shutting down. It was very scary!

My husband is still driving over the road. He doesn't get to be home much. He is still looking for work locally. Would be nice if he could be home with us more.

Chris and I joined Karate. He outranks me. He is a yellow belt and I am still a white belt. He is also playing basketball and is still a very active cub scout.

Brandon is playing basketball, baseball, and is also in cub scouts. He is doing very well in school.

Aaron is in high school and doesn't like to hang out with the rest of the family much. He gets very good grades and stays out of trouble. He is still in boy scouts and plays in the school band. He was the stage manager for a play they just did at the school. He will be getting his drivers license this June.

Thanks for checking in on us!
