Hi Kruses! So glad to hear 3rd grade is going well for Garrett. Has it really been that long since Garrett was in my Kindergarten class? It was so fun to see you all this summer, and I enjoy the updates on the website. Garrett and Wyatt look so grown up in their tuxes. Take care!

Hello Kruse Family!

As I write this, I'm guessing you are in the car on your way to Iowa City for DANCE MARATHON!!! ...Garrett and Wyatt bouncing around the back seat like a couple of monkeys with Mom and Dad in the front enjoying the final moments of sitting down before the PARTY STARTS!!

I think this will be the first time in 5 or 6 years that I won't be able to join you guys for Dance Marathon. On top of everything else I have going on this weekend, Chicago just got about 10 inches of snow last night and this morning, so I'm definitely not going to be able to come out for a quick visit!

Garrett, I'm so glad that Chris has been able to hang out with you and grab lunch while you're in Iowa City the last couple months and party at Dance Marathon with you. He's such a great guy and now he's the head Morale Captain! I think that means another year of limitless stage access for the two Kruse clowns!

Garrett, I'm excited that you and Wyatt will be back at Dance Marathon again partying it up with Chris and showing everybody how special you are. Your bravery and positive attitude is the energy that fuels all those dancers all night. I always read up on your mom's journal entries and I couldn't be more proud of you and Wyatt. Tell Chris I say hi (and my friend Jamie who's coming back from Chicago to dance as a Spirit Dancer). I miss you guys and I'm going to miss not being able to see you all at the event. Have a great time, and make sure you take LOTS AND LOTS of pictures so you can download them to me and tell me about the event. Now go have a great time celebrating a full year of great health off treatment - you deserve it, buddy! "Creating tomorrow by dancing today, U of I Daaaaance Marathon!!!!!!" Love,

Brian

BOY OF THE YEAR!?!?! Way to go buddy...that's AWESOME! Not only were you a rockstar at Dance Marathon but you're a rockstar everywhere apparently! I just had to tell you guys that I got Morale Director for DM14 and all of my new captains are constantly asking me about you & Wyatt...I told them that I was keeping you guys for next year and I think they're all pretty jealous! Hope to see you all at the family event tomorrow! :) I wanna see that wild game face Wyatt!

Hey Buddy!!!

I just wanted to let you know that I had the BEST time ever at DM13 with you and Wyatt!! :) You guys are so awesome and I couldn't have asked for anyone better! I'm pretty sure I felt lost up there during Power Hour without either of you on my shoulders! I hope you had a blast and I can't wait to see you guys again. Keep up the great work with camp, that's so cool! By the way, did you see us in the NEWSPAPER today!?!? You and Wyatt were definitely the celebs of Dance Marathon...I'm not surprised! :) Thanks again, love you guys! I gotta say though, you wore me out playing tag & hide n seek in the ballroom! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOMORROW! Make sure mom, dad, and Wyatt give you everything you want, haha!

Hello Kruse Family!!
I hope you guys had a very Happy Thanksgiving!! I'm sure the boys ate just as much food as I did, nothing like coming home from school for home-cooked meals!! All of my relatives thought you guys looked awesome in your Halloween costumes, I showed them pictures over break. Any new loose teeth, Garrett?? Great news, both my gradeschool and my high school are going to help me out and do fundraisers for DM!!! :) I'M SO EXCITED! Enjoy the warm weather we've been having! Talk to you soon! ROCK ON DM!!!

It's a good thing you'll get it out of the way before Halloween...wouldn't want to miss out on trick-or-treating in that SPOOKY Captain Jack Sparrow costume!! Tomorrow I'm going to celebrate Halloween at the hospital with all the DM kids and dress up in my ninja turtle costume again...it won't be as fun without you and Wyatt there! You guys have a Happy Halloween and I'll talk to you later. Did dad pull out that other tooth yet?!? Take care.

Hey Garrett & Kruse Family!

I hope you're all doing well...long time no talk! Make sure you enjoy the last few weeks of good weather. I meant to tell you guys that we're still famous! Fr. Ed from the Newman Center in Iowa City sent a Dance Marathon newspaper article to me in Chicago. It had a picture of me, Garrett, and Wyatt. Two years later and they're still putting us in the paper. How cool is that!?!?

Things are going well in Chicago. I'm keeping busy by working a lot. I hope to run into you if we're ever in Iowa City at the same time (which probably won't be as often for you guys now...wooo hooo!). Let me know if you head out there anytime and I'll try to come to town. Talk to you later!

Hi Kruse's -- Hope all is well your way. We are quite anxious to hear about Wyatt's week at camp. Doesn't your school start this week? Megan starts tomorrow, and Kali started back last Wednesday. Oops!! Guess what - it is almost four years not three years since Collin's tranplant like I just posted. See, time flies and before you know it you can't even remember the dates of treatment anymore! I'm not sure if I'm finally recovering or finally completely losing it!
Donna V. <ldvolz@msn.com>
Confusionville, IA - Monday, August 14, 2006 10:48 PM CDT
Hi Krystal: It's a whole different world out there after the treatments are over, isn't it?! A place where fevers do not require the mad dash to the hospital- just a dose of tylenol! Very weird and unsettling to be able to treat a medical issue so simply. It will change - Collin was supposed to have a six month check in June and we'll be doing that tomorrow - two months late - guess we really have nothing we're worrying about with him! Of course it's been almost three years not just almost three months. My point is, the "new" normal for your family will arrive eventually. Our boys also start school the 23rd, summer went so fast. Take care.
Donna V. <ldvolz@msn.com>
Earlham, IA - Monday, August 14, 2006 10:41 PM CDT
Crystal,

Don't feel bad, I called the hospital when Darick first was off of treatment reporting that Darick had a fever and Jane calmly asked if it went away with Tylenol and I felt like a heal. I never even thought to give him Tylenol and to be honest we didn't even have any in the house. Going off of treatment is a transition. You are right, 3 years of always responding a certain way is hard to shake off after just a few months. Don't feel bad, we all have done it!!!!

YEEE HAW Garrett!!! Awesome to be done with your treatment!! You've grown so much, and I am glad that you are finally able to play in the dirt and have fun like every kid should be able to! I still remember you from your party in Mason City back in 2003, when your Grandpa Glen talked to my dad about you riding our horses, and I got to take you through the barrels in the arena at the big state barrel racing championship. I keep that picture on my desk and everyone asks how you are doing.
Krystal and Jon--Your strength is something that I admire so much. I looked up to Krystal for so long---from the 4-H days to high school cheerleading. You have always been amazing, and you really are an inspiration to me. Thanks for keeping up the web pages, it is great to know that you are still so awesome!

That's right, I'll be back for another Dance Marathon with you this year! Tell Wyatt I say hi and that you guys better start resting up because we have a whole night of dancing and partying to do! Keep up the good work in school. I'll see you soon, buddy.

Hello Kruse family! Greetings from the southeastern part of the state. Sounds as though things are going well, but busy for you. Megan is busy collecting money for dance marathon. She is so excited that she gets to participate this year for the very first time. She has heard so much from Garrett and Connor about the event. She toured the oncology wing at UofI last week and was thankful that she didn't see Garrett's name! So glad he's doing so well.

Just wanted you to know that we think about you guys all of the time and keep you in our daily prayers. Stay healthy and have an absolutely wonderful Christmas. We truly have so much to be thankful for this holiday season!

Hey, it's me again...I forgot to mention something...

Garrett, I am soooo proud of you for getting the Respectful Student Award at school. I just finished school after being a student for 17 years (that's 1st grade through 16th grade, Garrett!) and I learned that the COOLEST kids are the ones that are the NICEST. Being friendly to your new friend who's blind and other kids who don't have many friends is a great way to make new friends and be cool. Keep up the great work, buddy!

I hope you and Wyatt had fun at the DM Winter Family Event today! I remember how much you loved driving the ambulance last year. Hopefully you guys didn't run anymore people over this year! I wish I could have joined you.

I can't wait for the BIG DANCE MARATHON EVENT...AAAHHH!!! I'm planning on coming back from Chicago to party the night away with you. If you're lucky, I might even have present since your BIRTHDAY is only a couple days after the event! I can't wait to see you guys! Build a snow angel for me next time you're out playing! I'll talk to you later Lil' Man!

Hello to the Kruse family -- Just wanted you to know how much fun we had with Greg & the boys at G'Ma and G'Pa's cabin. Sorry you missed all of the fun, Krystal, but I'm sure you enjoyed your weekend, also! I can't believe school is already starting. We delivered Megan to the University of Iowa this week (GO HAWKS!) (sorry Greg). Losing teeth this week -- going to college next week. Watch out because time does fly. May, 2006 will be here before you know it. Our prayers continue for all of you. Take care and we hope to see you soon.

Isn't it exciting!!! Gabby finally lost her first tooth a couple of weeks ago- She was so excited, she woke up in the middle of the night to find that the tooth fairy had already come!
Gab's getting ready for school! She so pumped to ride the bus.
We had tons of noise up here. The international(fireworks guys) PGI group was here all last week. Needless to say, we haven't been getting to bed as early as we'd like with them in town. It was great entertainment for 5 nights.
Hope to see you at Gabby's birthday Saturday. It'll be a busy weekend.

Hey Garrett! MAY 2006! YAHOO!!!! A Date at last! Isn't nice to know that the docs really aren't leading you by a leash but they really DO have a plan to take you off of those steroids?!
Thanks for the luminary at the Relay for Life! Very cool to hear my name, I think I heard it like 4 or 5 times. Maybe more, I was busy walking and watching my dvd player, couldn't decide which to do.
Also, thanks for the shout out in your journal. I know my mom is a little crazy knowing that this week all I am getting is bloodwork instead of IVIG, Vincristine, steroids, 6 MP and Methotrexate. Myself, however, I think it rocks not having anything at bedtime but Dapsone! You are gonna' love it!
Waiting for you at the end of the chemo line Garrett!
Love from your friend in chemo,

I will tell you exactly what that means, it means you have caught "Connor Virus" unexplained temps coupled with clear cultures. The true identifying tag would be "did the temp completely disappear or drop to almost normal"?
garrett, Connor is very sad too. We all have super memories of Mason that we will have to talk about to keep his memory alive. But, you are right, Bud, he isn't in pain anymore and he can do anything he wants. Which is, I am sure, exactly what he is doing right now.

As for Brian, he has been practicing how to stay up and party for the past 4 years and his Dad and I are not surprised that he could handle it (easily) for DM :-) He has been the life of many a party ( a lot of them here at our house) ....and probably more than I can imagine. He has looked forward to this all year. I'm not sure who was more excited about this years's Dance Marathon-- my son or your sons !
Warmly,

WOW!! It sounds like this year’s Dance Marathon was even more amazing than I remember it being from my Iowa days! Garrett, Brian tells me that you danced the hours away with all the big boys and girls!!! And, Wyatt I hear that “you’re crazy” with your new dance moves! What FUN it sounds like you all had!!!

I’m very much looking forward to seeing pictures from the big event! Our thoughts and prayers were with all of the families, dancers, and supports this whole weekend long. I’m so proud of Brian, Group #30, and the Kruse boys for making this year’s Dance Marathon one to always remember. I wish I could have been there too!

Oh, and how could I forget? - Garrett, Happy 6th Birthday (a little late)!

With much love, Angie

Happy Birthday swirt!!!! Sounds like you had a great one! Busy as always! Sorry we couldn't be there! Our weekend was super busy too! I think we were maybe home 2-3 hours is all.
Did you get your soccer ball? I mailed it hoping it would get there by the weekend. Aren't they cool? It'll come right back to you...like a dog on a leash!!
Grady's getting excited for his birthday too! Shhh he's getting the cool soccer ball too.
Gab's getting ready to celebrate her 1/2 birthday at school. She anticipates a full blown party... I have to reminder that she got a big party this summer!
Well I better get busy. We're hoping to get down and see you before Grady's birthday.
Love you lots.

Hey you guys,
Just checking in to see whats up? I try to get all my little caringbridge friends checked at least 1 a week. We will not be able to go to DM this year...Masons cancer progressed we found out Friday so I have no idea what is in store for us in the next few weeks. Drs are looking into something we might be elgible for as far as studies go. By looking at him you would NEVER guess this child even has CANCER let alone relapsed and approx 50% involvment. All we can do is PRAY PRAY PRAY and have FAITH FAITH FAITH even though many days that is SO hard!!! HOPE is being pretty good....doing lots better with the potty training. Garrett we went to see the monster trucks yesterday!!! One flipped over and the man came out in good condition...that would freak me out!!!! Love to you from us.....

Crystal,

I laughed so hard when I read your post. Darick just finished steroids and his week was exactly the same. One minute he hated me and the next minute he couldn't quit hugging me. Of course his hugs were very aggressive and darn near took off my head at times. Someday we will look back on this and laugh!!!!!

Hope to see you at Dance Marathon!

I probably wont be able to come to your birthday party. Wish I could. We will have to have a party soon for Ashlyn, she is almost 2. Hopefully we can have it there in Iowa and you all can help her celebrate. I still have you and your brothers christmas presents and will bring them when I come to see you soon. Say hi to everyone. Miss you.

Hi Garrett! Glad to hear Christmas was great! I knew santa would find your house. Are you waiting for snow? We were hoping to do some sledding over xmas break but it has been so warm that we don't have much snow left!! Nothing new here. We are busy playing with all the toys that santa brought too. I'm waiting to hear when you are coming back to the area so I can see how much you've grown. I can tell that you are getting taller by the pictures that mom posts (thanks mom). And you still look "a little" like dad (ha ha). SO glad to hear all is well. I miss you lots! Take care!

We waited so long for snow, uncle Joe finally moved some snow...we can't go out and enjoy it yet. Sounds like it will be warm enough at Grandpa & Grandma Kruses @ Christmas. I think i'll pack the kid's winter clothes & sleds!
I just wanted to check in! We miss you, Love you and we'll see you soon! Hope Santa brings you what you want!!! (that's half the JCPenny's catalog at our house)

Hey garrett. Glad you are feeling better. I am working today and we got in a new Weiner dog puppy. Do you think Wilma would want a new friend? I know she has Zoe but this one is cute and I need to find it a home. Ashlyn had a rough week, She tripped at daycare and fell in the sand. Now she has scratches all over her face, but she is tough and did not cry. Well just wanted to check in and say hi. Miss you!

Theey're so cute, soft and just trying to walk. I think the kids are going to head out and see them this weekend.

Crystal,

It was good to see you at the Dance Marathon Fall Event! I haven't been able to post because I have been out with a very sick child. Darick has had a hard month - all unrelated to his cancer. We have been dealing with high fevers, vomiting, headaches, (or “forehead pain” as Darick called it) many doctors’ visits, lab work, antibiotics and a CAT scan. In the end it was a wicked viral infection and a sinus infection. In any case, all is well now. I wanted to let you know that after we left the Fall Event Darick said, "Wow Mom, Garrett was at camp with me, Adventureland and now he is here. Isn't that weird" I just laughed and then I reminded Darick that Garrett has the same cancer that he has. I just thought that was so funny. Anyway, it was great to see you guys. The costumes were awesome! Have a great Halloween!

Love,

Hi! Haven't been able to write for awhile. Grandpa's computer was sent to NJ again and gone for 2 weeks. Got a new one again. Good thing I can talk to you guys on the phone. Mom said you got the Frog Street Press things I sent. Which letter are you doing this week? We just finish "Penelope Pig". Next week we'll do "Rowdy Rat". I think you did that one already. We're bringing great grandma Ina Mae with us to see the scoccer game Sunday. Hope you stay warm enough. How was the Party in Ia City last weekend? Can't wait to see your costume. What did brother decide? Last thing I heard, he was going to be batman again. You should see our new front yard and all the cement in the driveway. Much more room for bike riding next summer. Guess I'll talk to you tomarrow night at your house. Love, hugs, and kisses, Grandma Donna

Hi Guys! Checking in to see how you're doing! Sounds like everythings going well. We survived Gabby's 2 birthday parties! She's feeling great about turning 5!
Next Tues. Sept. 7th Gabby starts her pre-kinder class everyday, Grady starts preschool a couple days a week. Swimming starts in a couple of weeks again.
Grady thinks he's a big boy and can wear big boy clothes now that he's in pre-school! It's pretty funny, he came out of his closet with an outfit size 7-8 on. We had to roll the sleeves 4 times~
Remember Paige, she's in Gabby's class for pre kinder too. They're happy to be back together everyday.
Uncle Joe's not to hot! He fell out working earlier this week out spraying bugs! He thought he'd broken his leg...just torn ligaments!
We're heading to Grandpa Jon & Grandma Colleen's place this weekend to do some fishing!
Well I better get busy! We miss you guys so much. Some one asks me about you almost everyday!
Love you!
Hope to see you soon!

Really glad to hear that you are doing so well. Kindergarten is so much fun isn't it? Our house is a busy place now that school has started too. Briana started kindergarten this year and Logan is in second grade. Logan also plays soccer. He played last spring also. It is lots of fun. Games are on Saturdays here so starting September 11 we have weekly soccer games. At the first game the team gets their pictures taken also.
You have fun in school and with your soccer games.

Good to hear you are doing so great. What fun things are you doing in school? I bet soccer will be really fun. You will have to take pictures at your games so I can see you. Say hi to your brother for me. Miss you all.

Hi Garrett (and Mom and Dad)!
Glad to read you're doing so well. I enjoyed seeing your pictures from camp - looks like you really had fun! Have fun with the soccer. I'm sure you'll do a great job. Study hard in school - and be good for the teacher! Ask your teacher to show you where Romania is on a world map. That's where your cousin Robin is right now. We love you lots.

Crystal,

I'm so happy that Garrett's counts are back to normal and that he LOVES kindergarten. I just know that that is how Darick will be. These two little boys are just amazing. They have been through so much and continue to go through so much, but yet can find the innocence to just say "YAY" when it is time for school. We have so much to learn from them!!!

Garrett – we are so happy that you love kindergarten!!!! I bet you are one of the brightest kiddos there. Good for you!

Love and prayers as always,

Hi Garrett!
School is getting close. I bet you are excited. Ashlyn started going to her school on Monday. She had fun and wasn't scared at all! She even made a new little friend. Sounds like you had a good time at Grandma's. I'm glad you learned to ride your bike. Now you and your brother can ride together. Enjoy the rest of your summer. Miss you.

Hi! It was fun and wonderful to have all our Big and little children home for the 4th. Hope Ashlyn comes to live near you soon so that we can all be closer in miles, too. Mom said that you're on 3/4 of meds. Good Going! Hope the next check puts you back on full meds. I went to Crazy Days this week and found a muffin/cupcake pan that looks like jack-o-lanterns. Got it for mom to do treats for school or just for the fun of it. We got the new curvy sidewalk in. It looks great! This week the driveway should be finished. The new window should be coming soon. Then we'll work on the landscaping. So far we haven't found the same block as the retaining wall that your dad help put in. May have to go with something different. Gt. Aunt Effie is in the hospital in Webster City. She may be going home today. Gt.Grandma Muriel is home. Talked to her last night. Except for weakness from blood loss, sounds good. Grandpa is working on putting the watering system in at the garden this morning, so he can go fishing this afternoon. Mary and Bill moved to their new house Wed. Contractors working over at the old house now, so not sure when the new neighbors will move in. I'm going on a landscaping tour this afternoon. There are 5 homes that are showing their lawns/gardens for a fund raiser for FHC. Maybe I'll pick up some new ideas. Will talk to your mom about the details of when and how we'll get you two for some stay over time at grandma and grandpa's. I've been planning some fun things to do when you're here. Glad to hear you're feeling good. Talk to you later. Love, Hugs, and Kisses!!!!!!!!!!! Grandma Donna

Garrett, I had a bloody nose this weekend too. Boy was my mom freaked out. I told her to "Just relax mom, just reeee-lax". I don't think she appreciated it much. Oh my mom also said to tell you not to worry about the count thing too much. Mine have dropped a couple of times during maintenance too. Just enjoy the time you don't have to take the meds. Moms don't like it much when you don't take your meds but I love it. I am very sad about our buddy Mason. We have been through this before, and worse, with some of our friends and it stinks. I can tell you this too, it doesn't ever get any easier to hear these things. Let's tell Mason we are praying hard for him, Jordan too. They HAVE to dance with us next year at DM.
Bye Garrett, tell Wyatt to stop giving you bloody noses. Did he get a time out?

Crystal,

Oh how I understand those steroid weeks!!! At least when Darick had no hair and he threw a fit out in public people were more understanding. Now that he has a full head of hair he simply looks like a naughty kid. Have faith in that your fellow "mothers in chemo" know exactly how you feel!!!

Darick loved camp and cried Sunday night because he missed his buddies from camp. Isn't that sweet! Tell Garrett that Darick says hi. I'm sure the counselors got those two names mixed-up a few times!!!!

AWESOME FUN HUH GARRETT? I can still remember my time there. Alice from Alice in Wonderland came to the village when I was there quite a bit and let me just say this " Hubba Hubba". I think she was quite taken with me too. Garrett cancer camp is great. There are horses to ride(I rode Socrates)a climbing wall that you have to take a ladder up just to get to the start, and a repelling wall that is even higher than the climbing wall! WHOA! My mom was AWESOME she rode a horse and did the climbing wall and the repelling wall. I was so proud of her, especially since she is scared of heights and horses. Way to go mom! Also they have bows and arrows you can shoot there. I have never done that but I did this weekend. Wow, we did crafts, watched movies, had campfires and ate s'mores. We slept in cabins that were heated and they had like 6 bunkbeds in them. TOO COOL! Let's see what else? You are going to love camp. We are supposed to be back at Disney during camp but if we can't go there then I think mom is going to try to get me to ck camp. It will be cool to go without her, she kinda ' cramped my style with a couple of the honeys.
Take care Garrett and can't wait to hear more about your trip! Did you just love Wacky Waterworks?

Hi! Missed you at Alicia's graduation, but mom said you weren't feeling well from your spinal. Hope you're better today. Did you pick up Vilma and her new friend? I imagine you got the boat yesterday from gt. grandma's garage. Sandy said that they would be home. Sounds like you had a great time at Disney!!! I've been trying to get grandpa to take me back there again. Last time we went was when Jason was 7 yrs. old. There are so many more places to visit now. Sounds like you were brave and went on a ride that grandma wouldn't. We'll have to get together and you can tell me EVERYTHING and show me all your pictures and stuff. Mom said you got to go on the bus to visit Kindergarten. Sounds like you're as excited to go to Kindergarten as the boys and girls in my classroom. Tell mom to give you a calendar so you can mark off the summer vacation days until school starts. You could put a "Big Star" on the first day of school. Then you can see how many days it is before school starts in the fall. I wish I could come see your graduation ceremony, but I still have 9 days of school to finish. Mom said she would video tape it for us. You'll have to come and stay this summer. Sometime after summer camp. (That sounds like it will be FUN!) I'll come visit this summer, too. Tomarrow, grandpa is going to give the kids in my class a ride in the boat. We're going to the park to play and take turns in the boat. Most of the children have never had a ride in a boat before. Some moms and dads will come ,too. Guess that's all the time I have right now. Got to get ready for church. Love, kisses, and hugs!!!! Grandma Donna

Hi! Grandpa & I finished putting in the dock. You'll have to come and fish. We have to go to gt. grand's to get the boat out of storage yet. Gt. grandma Muriel is stopping Monday to eat lunch with grandpa. When you come the next time, we'll have to get out and read all the storybooks I have about Kindergarten. I even have one that works for little brothers. When you find out the details about your trip, let me know. Is Wilma staying at grandma Colleen's? Sounds like you're going to have fun at Camp this summer, too. We'll have to figure out a time to can come to grandma & granpa's Camp, too. Talked to Aunt Cinnamon, she says Ashlyn is walking! But, she's not chasing the cats, as yet. Talk to you soon. Love, hugs, & kisses. Grandma Donna

Hi Garrett! Sounds like you are keeping mom & dad on their toes!!Isn't independence great, mom? Disney will be SO fun~have a safe trip. Your friends at TUG'S miss you a lot, but are glad to hear you like your "new" preschool. They really enjoyed your update letter. You will have to stop by sometime if you are ever in the area. We would LOVE that. Kindergarten fever is in the air here too. You are just SO "grown up" once you get to Kindergarten, I guess. Sending lots of hugs and kisses your way!!

I remember those days. My oldest who will be 20 soon, ran away when he was 5 and we were living in Arizona. There was a really bad storm coming too. Sounded identical to your story about Garrett. Loved reading the story. Brought back all those memories.
God Bless you all.

Oh my gosh -- Grandpa Jon was filling us in on the little episode. When I told my Mom, it brought back a few memories -- only I hid behind the basement stairs downstairs and asked for a pb & j sandwich to take with me on my hike. Hee Hee. Just wait until he's 40 something and tells his kids' friends. Hee Hee. Not much going on in Keokuk today -- rain, rain, rain; but we really need it. Kali's track meet was canceled. Been to a few soccer games (Megan's boyfriend is on the team), so we saw the Muston kids the other night. We need to get Amy a pair of roller skates to keep up! Ha. Take care and know you're still in our prayers!! Love, Tammi & the gang!

I laughed my you know what off. Well not enough of it came off but I did laugh. Not that it was funny when you were dealing with it(which I might add it sounds like you handled it terrifically, is that a word?).
Soccer has started here so we will probably be seeing the Kirchers more. You need to come visit so the boys can play. We just need to make sure they both aren't on steroids because I think Keokuk would ban you and kick us out! The joys of steroids. Connor goes for treatment on Wednesday. He is threatening a temp right now but hopefully we will squeak by. Connor was going to go to camp but we will be going back to Disney during that time. He doesn't turn 5 until May 31 anyway so he will be barely 5 when camp comes along. He is definitely on the roster for next year though. Garrett, will you show him the ropes? Our friend Kayla is going too.
Take care.

Hi Garrett! Just checking in. I miss having you all around. I am glad you could come and stay with me for awhile. Wish you could have stayed longer, but I know your Dad missed you and you had to get home to see him. Ashlyn liked having someone to play with. She says thank you for all the toys you brought her. She has been playing with the legos alot. I hope to come and visit you soon and see your new house and check out the town. Hope you are doing well. Love you!

Garrett,
Haven't talked to you for a while. I saw your dad on Thursday at the store. It was late and I had to head for home. Next time I'm working down there, I'll stop and see you. Grandma Freddie is staying with us for a while. She is doing better. Hopefully she will get to go home soon. Is dad getting ready for turkey hunting? Ask him to take you scouting for turkeys. You'll have to get up real early, put on your camo, and be real quiet.
By for now.

HI, Glad you all got back from Cinnamon's before the big snow. I got your Girl Scout cookies from Tara. I'll send them Sunday with grandpa. Sounds like you had fun at Cinnamon's and Ashlyn's. It would be nice if they were closer, so that you could get together more often. Glad your trip to the Doctor was good. Sounds like you have grown alot since your birthday. Grandpa trimed some limbs from the trees, so now we can see the lake better. Guess what we have been seeing? While Gt. Grandma Ina Mae was here, we saw 20 eagles on the ice and then by Sat. the ice was gone. There's been lots of geese, sea gulls, and ducks around, too. They have been fun to watch. Did dad get the bathrooms done while you were at Aunt Cinnamon's? How about the laundry room tiles? Guess grandpa will see on Sunday. Lots of love, hugs, and kisses... Grandma Donna

Hi Kruse Family,
We had a blast at DU convention with all of you! I'm still exhausted, so I know how all of you must feel. Garrett and Wyatt, you two were great! We need to party together more often. Do you still have your dollar, Garrett? So good to see so much energy out of you two! (Right, Mom & Dad??) Take care and we hope to see you again real soon! Maybe a weekend in Keokuk this summer would be a good idea. Then you could see Connor and have fun in the southeast part of the state! Ducks are geese are flying around here like crazy. Ed has been snow goose hunting since we got home. He's having way too much fun! Take care and stay healthy!

Hi Garrett and Wyatt, Well, grandpa is home so I can use the computer again. (Tell Grandpa that grandma needs a computer at home.) Wish I could go with you guys to Aunt Cinnamon's. Give her and Ashlyn lots of hugs and kisses for me and grandpa. Tell Ashlyn I'm really sad about missing her first birthday in person. I've been talking to mom on the phone to keep updated. Glad you liked the Batman cake I made for you. I wonder what it will be for next year. Tell mom she did her usual excellant decorating job on the new house. It always amazes me how she can make any house you live in into a new and different look. It looks so warm and loving. She has a knack for it. Of course, that why you had to move from the lst house in Mason, because she made it look so good that it sold. (Hey, she should start a business where she decorates homes for people who want to sell their homes; or just for people who want a new look.) Have you seen any robins in that "bird" tree you have in the front yard? Someone at school this week told me they saw a robin. Hope that means winter will end early. (I'm sure mom would agree.) Sounds like you may have grown since the birthday party. Have you grown out of all the new clothes Santa and grandma/pa got you? If so, what do you need? Check out Ashlyn's closet while you're there, too. We'll get together when you get back from Ashlyn's. See if you can convince Ashlyn to talk her mom into moving close to you. Give mom some extra hugs and kisses for me and grandpa on her birthday. Give uncle Jason some, too and thank him for us for going with you guys. Love, hugs, and kisses, Grandma Donna.

Garrett,
Greetings from Utah!! Grandpa and Grandma have been here all week. We've been out in the canyons hunting mountain lions!! So far, we haven't had any luck. Tracks, but no lions we can catch. Chased a Bobcat one morning. Saw a whole bunch of elk one afternoon, elk like the ones you saw at the park. Lots of deer too. We had hoped to be on our way home by now, but we are staying another day or two hoping for the right weather and hoping to see a BIG lion track. Grandma has picked up some pretty rocks. She is bringing home some petrified wood and some Anisazi Indian pottery pieces she picked up.
Sounds like everything is okay at home. We can't wait to get back and see you again.

Hi little man! Hope to see you this weekend!! I missed you guys last weekend! We raised another $300.00 on our bake sale. Lots of special people helped out, a testament to a special little boy. I got to spend the day with Mrs. Parks.
We're getting ready for vacation! In a couple of weeks we're taking a really long drive out to North Carolina! Gabby & Grady will get to see the mountains & the ocean for the first time. I think they are excited.
Uncle Joe's been working a lot lately, like daddy! The kids and I have been busy @ home.
We had fun Trick or Treating. It's nice getting lots of candy indoors.
We'll try and see you this weekend!
Love & Hugs

Hi, I'm finally getting to use the computer. Grandpa has been gone alot lately and when home, he's hogged the computer. It's a good thing that I know how to use the phone! It was fun to spend time with you and Wyatt while mom had some time off. How was the trick or treating? I forgot to ask mom on the phone. I saw you carrying the new Halloween books I sent you. Grandpa will stop Wednesday with your Thanksgiving books. Grandpa spent last Friday with Aunt Cinnamon and Ashlyn. Grandma is jealous. Sounds like Ashlyn is growing and learning some new things. Hopefully we'll be able to see them at Xmas. Sunday, on our way to church, there was a buck running across the field at the end of our road. It had a nice rack on it. Guess some pheasant hunter scared him out. Then on the way home, in the same spot were a bunch of rooster pheasants. They were teasing grandpa, I guess. Grandpa came to my classroom today and read a story to the class. It was The Seals on the Bus. Kind of like The Wheels on the Bus, but animals were on the bus and it ended with the people yelling for help. (The last animal was a shunk.) Guess it's supper time,so will probably call you later this week. Wonderful news about being able to start the maintence program. Love, hugs, & kisses: Grandma Donna

Garrett:

We have been reading "Garrett's Grapevine" as we receive them from your Grandpa Jon. It is great to see you have done so well and are on the road to maintenance. We wish you well as you progress through your maintenance program. Your Grandpa Jon and Grandma Colleen tell us you have been quite the young man through your ordeal. You are certainly the apple of their eye.

Hi Garrett,

Nice picture of you in the camouflage outfit. Your Grandpa Jon, tells me you are quite the duck and goose hunter. I like to hunt those ducks and geese myself. I'll bet Grandpa Jon will want to take you deer hunting one of these times. I used to hunt deer a number of years ago. Hope you have had the opportunity to do some pheasant hunting. We thank the good Lord that you are getting stronger each day. You are a real trooper.

Hi Garrett, I haven't been to your webpage recently because my job has been very busy and we moved to a new house last weekend. It was a challenging weekend with Halloween for Logan and Briana, then moving to a new house the next day. We also decided to add a little more fun to the whole mix by adding a pug dog named Susie to our family too. Anyway, we are in Janesville, WI now. Let Grandpa Glenn and Grandma Donna know they should come to Janesville now. You boys look like you were ready of some fun on Halloween. We have lots of candy at our house too. I think there is enough to last until Christmas or after. Keep up the good work. You are getting stronger every day.

Hi Garrett, What a happy, good looking, little boy sitting out there in the cornstalks. I can remember when your Grandpa Jon was a boy and went hunting with his dad and uncles. You would of scared me if I had seen you and Wyatt in the dark on Halloween night. Glad things are going well for you. You have been such a brave little boy. Love and hugs to you and Wyatt. What's Up Garrett?! Or should I say Batman? Sounds like you are Way excited about Halloween. So is Connor. He wants to be Buzz Lightyear. We tried that last year but the hard plastic shield hurt his port so he didn't want to do that. I guess we are going to try again this year. I am going to have a backup plan just in case. I am glad you are hanging in there. So are you officially in maintenance yet? If not it can't be too far off.
Tell your mommy, daddy, and little brother we all say hello. I hope you get lots of candy and tell mom to post some Halloween pics when the day is over.
Love and hugs to you buddy.

Hi Garrett and Krystal and all of the Kruse family. So Garrett I understand those counts are kinda' holding down in the low end. Well don't fret buddy they will come up and when they do you will be surprised I bet at the jump they make. Connor's went from 700 to 1100 in one night(his needed to be 750)to finish DI. Sounds like you are doing okay otherwise and who would have thought otherwise? Stay strong bud, you too mom and dad, you'll be enjoying maintenance before you know it. Oh and Garrett, did you notice that I spelled leukemia wrong in my last entry to you? Man, can you believe that? That stupid disease runs our lives and I spell it wrong. I guess that shows you what I think of it huh? :)
Take care everyone.

Hi! We've been without a computer since the benefit so haven't been able to send a message. We have a temporary one right now. Good thing mom and I can talk on the phone often. I've have been busy getting the classroom ready, going to in-service, getting aquainted with my new associate, and starting school. I have 16 children; 10 boys and 6 girls. They are 3 & 4 years old. We were lucky to get an air conditioner in our portable this year. That's a big help. Grandpa & I worked at the Iowa State Fair last Sunday. It was 102 without the heat index (according to the "wet" people that came to the window to order). Grandpa had to sweat it out over the grill. The drum sticks were cooked in an enclosed oven that went around & around. It looked like a ferris wheel for legs. They changed the marinade on the fillets. I like the old recipe best. Talked to uncle Jason this week. School will be starting for him, too. Great, Jason!!! Ashlyn had her booster shots yesterday. I bet she's a little grouchy today. Aunt Cinnamon has been working long and hard, as usual. Guess who grandpa and I saw at the motel Monday morning? We came down the steps, and there was Matt and Tyler at the coffee machine. They were there with his mom and her brother to go to Adventure Land, too. You just missed them. Tyler looked really good. Matt said that they were going to go to MN and maybe another place to get another opinion. Their doctors agree. Tell mom to check on them and see what's happening. You're in the Storm Lake paper again. There's a couple of pictures from the benefit, too. I'll save you a copy. Well, keep on fighting the good fight, and I'll call soon. Love, hugs, & kisses to you, Wyatt, mom & dad.

Hi, Garrett!. I am the lady that was there at your benefit that helped Grandma serve the food and sell raffle tickets for that beautiful quilt. I had such a great time working with the other kids on the "Kids Games" outside. You were able to break the balloon nose on the clown's face in record time. GREAT JOB, GARRETT. So glad to hear that your blood count is up. I know what that is like. I am a cancer survivor and had to have chemo and radiation two years ago. BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY, "THINGS WILL GET BETTER". Hello Dr Garrett,

I saw the poster for your special day at the Mercy Cancer Center today and had to check it out. You are a very handsome young man, and from what I've read, very brave and strong. My daughter Danielle is going thru treatment for leukemia too - we live in Hampton, IA and can you believe - she has a great-grandma that lives in Storm Lake? We go to Mayo for treatment, sometimes to Mason City. Anyway - just wanted to say hi and hopefully we can make it to your benefit next month. Stay strong and have lots of fun this summer.

Hi Garrett. We are just stopping by to say hello. Sorry it has been so long since we have stopped in but this summer has been VERY busy. Connor has been feeling so good that he keeps us on the go constantly. I am exhausted but glad for it. How have you been? Are you keeping track of that little brother of yours? Connor won't let Cameron out of his sight. I hope you are having a blast enjoying the summer. Take care buddy. What is your clinic schedule like next month? Maybe we will catch you up there. Connor goes in the sixth of August I think.
Talk to you later. Say hi to your mommy for me.

Garrett,
How was your trip to Iowa City Friday? Hope things went well.
Grandma Colleen and I went fishing last night at Okoboji. Wish you could have been here. We caught Walleyes, bluegills, perch, a silver bass, and a big bullhead. Fished until about midnight. Wilma was in the boat with us, didn't know what to think about the fish. She eventually spent most of her time sleeping.
Grandma and Grandpa are thinking about you all the time.

Hi, Just tried calling to talk about yesterday's events. Sounds like everything is good. Wonderful! Talked to Uncle Jason yesterday. Sounds like he's got school worked out. Good going, Jason!!! Says he still has your tent. He got rained on. Wish only dry tent weather for you, Garrett. Talked to Aunt Cinnamon this week, too. Ashlyn is talking (baby talk). Her doctor appointment is July 7. Tell Wyatt, grandma will bring a Bob the Builder cake for his party. Got a surprise for you, too. Also, I'm working on some things for the benefit. Summer is going much too fast for grandma. Glad to read your updates and know that things are going so well with you. Keep up the good work! Summer is really underway now here at our house. Robin is working as a student nurse at the hospital just up the road. She worked in surgery for a while and is in the emergency room now. Robin and Adam will be going to Honduras in less than two weeks now. They will help to build a place for kids who live out on the streets. Good Morning, Garrett,
I was going to dress up in my Pioneer costume and quilt on the Rock Island Arsenal Island, for Fur Trader's Weekend, pretending it was 1830. but called off due to too much rain. We were to sit in the Colonel Davenport house and quilt. Colonel Davenport, protected the Native Americas. He married Margarite who was part native. They were given most of the land which is now Daveport. It would have been fun to visit the house. I'm told that in the bed room upstairs there are curtains which close all the way around the bed and that the curtains are embroidered just like curtains in Europe. These curtains are on the bed just not around, like hospital curtains. I think it would be fun to find in the bed. Tell Grandma Donna that I love her, and that I have you, Garrett, in my prayers. Fondly, Cathy

Georgie was diagnosed when Connor was an inpatient just like you. I think Connor must be the ALL Welcome Wagon Rep. What do you think? Hi Garrett! What a fun day we had at the park today! Can you believe that preschool is over already? I can't! I'm glad I'll be seeing you all summer while working with the benefit, because school won't start again for a long time!! I bet you and Wyatt will sleep good tonite for mom and dad after running around all morning. Wyatt had lots of fun today too I think. He sure is cute, just like his big brother. I'll see ya in a couple weeks at Aunt Kim's. Have a great weekend!!

Hi, I'm guessing that you just got home. It was great to have all of you visit. Grandpa was glad that you could help him put the new benches on the dock. He was especially happy to have someone to fish with. It's good to see that your energy is returning and also that you are eating a few more foods. Keep helping mom keep an eye on brother. You're a big help. Help grandma by keeping an eye on mom, too. She needs your help taking care of you, too. As soon as school is out, grandma will come to visit. We'll have to hunt for bugs. I'll bring some of my insect books so that we can figure out what type of bugs we find. Tell dad Hi. Love, hugs, & kisses to all. Grandma Donna

What a cool webpage Garrett! Glad you received the book. I hear you don't like some of the medicine. I just had my tonsils out and I had to take some yukkie stuff too but it sure made me better. I pray for you at night-time and happy that God is in your heart. He takes good care of us. Went fishing with Dad the other day and fish weren't biting. I was feeding them worms but I think they would rather have ham & cheese.

Garrett, I am Baileys (in your preschool class) mom, April. We are looking forward to coming to your benefit in August. I would love to help in any way possible. Bailey goes to Iowa City for her scoilosis (crooked back). She loves to go to her appointments, cause it means she gets to spend the night at her aunt Rachels house and get spoiled. The hospital is pretty big isnt it. Have you been able to go play at the playground there? Bailey really enjoyed that. Well hope each day gets better. Please let me know if I can help in anyway!! We will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers.

Hi Garrett. I am stopping in to say hello. Also, could you tell your mommy that I am really sorry I haven't responded to her emails yet? Connor and his almost 1 year old brother insist on my every minute it seems. Anyway, from the sound of your journal you seem to have a great attitude and it sounds like you keep everyone on their toes. I talked to Mary Lou ( nurse in clinic, you know her I am sure) and she said that you remind her a lot of Connor. Oh Wow Crystal, if that is even remotely true I KNOW you have your hands full too.
Take care and even though I may not respond in a timely manner I am still thinking of you.
Love and prayers.

He said to have mom and dad bring you and Wyatt up to the Fire Station sometime and he will show you around and let you sit up in the fire trucks. Take care of yourself and take care of your mom and dad too!! You are in our thoughts and prayers every day!!.

Love your new friends,

Let me know. If you need me before that, call. I'll be there. Tell Wyatt to watch out for the "little boy eating bed." Glad you're all okay. Take care of your mom, too. Mom's get sick sometimes, too. Hi Garrett. I am Connor Muston's Mommy. I understand that your grandparents are friends with Ed and Tammy Kircher. They are our friends too. Connor was diagnosed with ALL on March 10 2002. How about that? We took him to the ER for what we thought was pneumonia after he was at the doctor 2 days in a row earlier. He got to ride in the helicopter up to IC. You two should get together and swap medical transport stories sometime. Who is your primary doctor Garrett? Connor's is Dr. DiPaola and he loves him. Keep your chin up little mister. Connor just entered maintenance after a long year and it is easier, just like Jane said it would be. Stay strong. You too mom and dad.
Amy PS: mom feel free to email at any time.We have been where you are and would be happy to answer ANY questions. None are too small. I have already asked them all, just ask Mary Schlopkohl in the clinic, she will tell you.
