Garrett Jon Kruse, Cancer Survivor! The boys looking serious at Man, Women, Celebrity of the Year for the Luekemia Soceity.
Garrett Jon Kruse was diagnosed with standard risk ALL (Acute Lymphobalstic Leukemia) March 11, 2003. This time has been the most unpredictable and wonderful of our lives. Garrett arrived at Iowa City Hospital with a pale and ill appearance. His WBC was 26.6, hemoglobin was 4.9, platelets were 14,000, ANC was 0, with greater than 20,000 peripheral blasts. The bone marrow test comfirmed that he had precursor B-cell ALL. Garrett had a rapid early responce to therapy with 3% blasts on the day 7 bone marrow. We have overcome sponatneous nose bleeds, PICU, 3 attempts to place his port, mild neutropinia throughout these months and five admissions for fever. Garrett started maintanance on November 21, 2003 and finished treatment on May 9, 2006. We have been blessed with the strongest child and he has shown us the joys and faith of God and his love. We have become a closer family throughout the generations and it's all due to this wonderful child who just happens to have leukemia. What God will do to bring a world of people together. Thank you Lord for you love and guidance.

Saturday, October 18, 2008 2:40 PM CDT Well Garrett has gained 5 lbs in 2 months! Wow!!! So his all day ADHD meds were not working anymore. So we are on a new all day that has more mils. We are only on day 5 but it seems to be helping. If it doesn't we will go back to the 3 times a day routine.
He is doing great in scouts. He has earned 6 Webelos pins so far and is the number one earner so far in his Webelos I group. (Working hard on his book so he can earn them all! There are 20 all together.) The pack went to an astromony session last week and now he wants a telescope! He loves science and the outdoors so I guess this is a natural fit for him.
We make the trip to Iowa City in a month for his 6 month check up! It seems like forever since we were there....is that a good feeling or a scary one? Garrett can't wait, he loves going there! Strange child. Well that's all for now. He is healthy, strong, and quite a handful now. All in good spirits. God Bless, The Kruses'
