Dear Allison and Jason,
In the past Kathy asked me if I wanted to work in the special needs nursery. I even reviewed my tube feeding with Carol Foster. But the Sunday I was going to staff the nursery, no body came. Kathy has kept after me and I finally went on July 4th. I felt like I needed to apologize to Lydia. But it was 2 weeks too late for her attendance in the nursery.

As a special needs teacher for 30+ years, I can count on one hand those families who grew closer during their travel with their child. You are such strong models to those facing similar journeys, whether Christian or not, proof that families can survive and flourish. Being a Christian witness on top is all the more inspirational to people facing any kind of trial.

My prayers are for you and your family and your continued walk with Christ. Lydia's purpose has not ended with her death, but will extend beyond your horizon and belief.

Allison, I don't read manuals either, just not enough time. I am praying for you dear friend and something that was shared with me that goes along with what you've said is: If God brought you to it, he will bring you through it. Simple, but right now I need simple. Love your godly words of wisdom and how the Lord uses you and Lydia for his glory! Praying...

I'm so sorry to hear about Lydia's seizures, but I also ache that you had to relive such horrible memories. I'm sure you experienced a great deal of grief just by having to re-walk down the seizure path. What you and your husband have lived through is so traumatic. Know that I'm praying for all of you in your journey of what I've heard called 'chronic grief'. I haven't stopped my prayers for Lydia and her health, but haven't forgotten about the rest of you either. Much love...

Allison, when you share revelations and insights God gives you to help Lydia, I hear echoes of the exchange b/t God and some of His angels as He chooses someone like you to be a "Special Mom":

""Why this one God? She's so happy" "Exactly," smiles God. "Could I give a handicapped child a mother who knows no laughter? That would be cruel.
"But does she have the patience?" asks the angel.
I don't want her to have too much patience, or she'll drown in a sea of self-pity and despair. "Once the shock and resentment wear off she'll handle it. I watched her today. She has that sense of self and independence so rare and necessary in a mother. You see, the child I'm going to give her has a world of it's own. She has to make it live in her world, and that's not going to be easy."

…."If she can't separate herself from the child occasionally, she will never survive. Yes, here is a woman whom I will bless with a child less than perfect.
She doesn't know it yet, but she is to be envied.
She will never take for granted a spoken word…..

She will never be alone.
I will be at her side every minute of every day of her life, because she is doing my work as surely as she is by my side. “

Love you and thankful for you (I know that Lydia is thankful for you!),

OKAY, HELLO all you Tripps!
We have all missed Lydia on our hall at school. I am glad to read the progress that has occurred for Lydia. I am wondering if they are doing anything about her behavior(just kidding!) I love to walk by and have Lydia hear my voice and stick her tongue out at me.
My students get a real kick out of that. One of my students explained to a new student, as we passed by her class, " Lydia gets away with sticking her tongue out at Mrs. Giegler."
My students have asked about Lydia and are hoping to see her back before the end of school this year!
Tell her, her buddies from Mrs. Giegler's class miss her and want to see her really soon!
Many prayers from our home to yours!

Much Love,

Hey, dear one. I have been following your updates on Facebook but tonight had time to sit and read through your incredible trials of the last few days. We wonder, How much can one person take? I know it is hard on EVERYONE in your family, but a mama's heart never rests. I think you've got it right that God is crying over you. The suffering in our world must grieve him so, and yet he chooses to allow us to live in it and move through it. I know there are moments when you get tired of the "lessons" and long for true peace. I pray that, somehow, you can feel that peace deep within your soul. Much love to you and your family, and many prayers for your amazing girl.

Hello your story has hit home, our daughter was born with PDS and we had to wait till she was 14 days old for them to finally give her pyridoxine (she had about 100 fits a day for 14 days), as soon as pyridoxine was given her fits stopped and has now been fit free for 3 years. As we live in the UK we do not have anyone to speak. When reading your page you have said that Caleb and Josiah have not got PDS, can I ask if you took any supplements during these pregencies which broughT your chances of having another child PDS down or it was just a mircale the children don't have the condition.

Dearest Allison,
Talk about putting "life circumstances" into perspective and all through God's everlasting grace! After viewing pics and reading your posts... One can only be transformed and know that God is surely working in "your" deepest inner being. After meeting you last night at Dutchtreat, I left thinking is my child truely "special needs" ??? or once delayed in development for there is a difference. We all have our journey's and they will embrace our lives forever, those journey's are all so different from Lydia's to my Peyton's. For that I'm convinced that God does give healing power whether it's through the parent or the child - for we are his children.
Allison Tripp, I commend you for your strength, endurance and the pure radiance you carry when talking about ALL of your children! I am greatful for the passing of our paths!

On The Journey,
Janet

I know I'm a bit hormonal with the pregnancy, but I cried through your entire post! I cannot believe the huge changes in Lydia's life recently--just reading all of the changes all on one page really puts it all in perspective! You are so right, God is amazing! His timing continues to bewilder me--He is so perfect!

I am so happy for your family--everyone seems to be doing so well! And tell Caleb not to fear--Gabriel will be his vetically-challenged friend! :)

Oh my goodness-they all look so grown up. Caleb-especially-he is looking like such the handsome little boy in those pics (which of course he has always been adorable). Josiah reminds me so much of him as a baby! Looks like the big kids had lots of fun in Florida-and WHOA-look at that cool swimming pool. Fun stuff!

Caleb had a classic response to my suggestion that he tell you that he was becoming a "water bug" now that he was learning to swim. He wrinkled his brow and got a serious look before informing me, "Bapa, I CAN'T say waterbug!!!" (He didn't realize that he just did it.)

Isaiah 40:18-31
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

What an awesome quote by Nancy Guthrie! It is so true. I never even thought about anything like this until Isaac was born with a hole in his heart (VSD). I see such a spiritual parallel with that! How many times have we heard that there is a hold or void in our heart that can only be filled by God? I find that I cannot pray for God to physically heal Isaac's heart without praying for salvation for both of my boys. I also realized fairly soon after Isaac's diagnosis that even if God does decide to physically heal his heart, but his soul is not "healed," what good is the physical healing? So for that reason I am thankful that God has used this health concern in Isaac's life to bring me to a greater understanding of my children's REAL needs, spiritual taking high precedence over physical. Praise God for his Sovereignty. My plans would fall so very short of such lofty purposes. I hope to get to know you better, and I may be in contact in the future :-) I know you're swamped right now though, so I'll try not to pester you! I love seeing you and your beautiful family at church :-)

Hi, A,
We so enjoyed our time together and listening to the Nancy Guthrie CDs from the conference on the way home. While it was raining outside the van on the way home, it often was raining inside as well. So many rich, helpful takeaways from that retreat!
Love you, Jason and the rest of your "crew" - already miss them so much,

PS: May we all be able to echo Job's observation on the "other" side of the pain in our lives - "I knew You with my ears before, but now I have SEEN You!" (Job 42:5)

Five kids! That's just amazing, you guys! You are such wonderful parents, even when you may not feel like it. I am so thrilled to hear Amelia's news! I know you've given her the praise she deserves for such an accomplishment. Even when the body works well, it takes a dedicated little girl to follow through on the signs. Tears as I read your words and see the pictures. What a huge task God has given us mothers--to birth these little ones in pain and struggle and then sustain them with food and nurture them with love. And what a responsibility he gives fathers--to support something they can't quite fathom and then to protect and provide and nurture with love. It's a beautiful plan. Your little Si is precious, as are all of your children. I pray that the stomach bug has had its last battle with your family and that the test results come back just as you imagine they will. What a sweet journal entry. God continues to bless your family in many ways! I love the sentence about looking for no one and normal at bed time. I think I spend most of my days looking for them. :-) We will continue to pray for the Lord's guidance in Lydia's care.

What a lot of news! I pray that you can get Lydia's issues solved in a way that is comfortable and helpful for all of you. I always love reading what the kids say. That Sophie and Amelia must be quite a pair to watch. Sibling squabbles are completely normal, but they can be frustrating (to put it mildly). Though they get along well most moments, my girls already argue and they're 3.5 and 15 months. When Natalie gets older, I may have to learn more about your "active parenting" methods! Another boy, huh? That's great! Should balance out the family a little bit. Let us know when you choose a name. So much fun!

Oh, Allison! What sweet news all around! I'm excited for Moms and for all of you that will have her in your lives. I was very blessed to grow up knowing my great-grandmother well, and your kids will benefit so much from her relationship. I know she must miss her husband dearly, but it is good that she will be close to your family now. And another baby! Wow! You know I already admire your faith and your parenting of those amazing children, and now another one is being created to fit into your loving home. Again, you've been candid about the difficulties of life with so many little ones, so I know you must face this with some sense of feeling overwhelmed. Then, too, God's grace has been sufficient to sustain you thus far, and you know it will continue to do so. Just always remember to take moments for yourself and for you and Jason each day...somehow and some way! (:

Hello sweet sister in Christ:
I have been reading your recent updates, and you sound busy but happy. Abby was next to me on the couch the last time I was reading your update, and she said "Mommy, there's my friends Sophie and Amelia...how come I haven't gotten to see them in a long time?". Well, I had to explain the 8 hour distance thing and then told her that I hoped we would see them again soon. So, how about a trip to the mountains again this summer?

Great to hear that the clan is thriving and will pray for some answers for Lydia!

Love and Hugs!

Hello Allison, don't know if you remember me. I took Lydia's pictures many years ago. I have been keeping you and your family in my prayers all though I have not written.
It is good to read that you have made such progress with your family and the fact that you were so will to continue growing a family and added responsibilities is a testimony to your faith in God and your willingness to allow Him to strengthen and bless your lifes. He trully loves and respects you and your husband and that is why he has given you children with needs. I truly believe that He know you will do your best for them and honor Him through your love and dedication to His children. You are an amazing family and i totally admire all you have accomplished.
It is such a blessing to see God's hand at work in your lives. Children are a blessing they are God's reward...
Have a wonderful and happy 2008 and know that I think of you often.

Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Hi Allison I love the pictures of you and Jason. If I posted Ken and myself it would look similar. We were also High School sweet hearts and have been together for 29 years this December. Married 23 yrs this past June.

So to answer your question....you are correct it is not easy but when I look at the "journey" God has placed my family on because He asked us to be Mary parents, it's really incredible. We have been privledge to be part of makeing a difference in the live of those living with Epilepsy. I have been part of a learning collabrative through the Foundation for the National Initiative for Children's Healthcare Quality, I went to Washington DC with Mary and our oldest Allison to speak to congress about funding for Resite, I am now in the process of doing a Basketball Benefit again with the Harlem Wizards to raise awareness for those with Epilespy. We have to other parents who want to do the same event in their part of the State. "Bounce Out the Stigma" is now becoming a known slogan in NJ.

So what would have happened if Ken and I didn't say YES to being Mary's parents. I don't know if I would be typing this today. Although the journey has been difficult at times and sometimes my faith and purpse has been questioned. I do see the glory and I do see the purpose. We are here for one another. Even if it is through these websites or meeting in a mall. So the answer is not clear but the purpose in my opinion is not questionalbe either.

Oh, and having 2 boys of my own I can tell you, yes they are very different from girls. When Caleb gets older just remember to check the pockets of his jeans before washing them at least twice. (rocks, shells, and once a cricket) Don't ask!!!!

Allison, you and Jason are too cute - thanks for sharing the pics

Such a great update this time, its so wonderful to see all the new pics (your kids are adorable) and read all thats going and get to feel like a tiny part of your lives

how has Lydia (and the rest of you) influenced me? I guess the biggest thing is youve taught me to not take anything for granted - especially each little second with my kids - all their nuances and smiles... even when they drive me crazy at times, I still stop and realize how lucky I am.... I think I fall in love with them brand new every day, and without you guys, I dont know that I would love my kids just wildly and appreciate them for who they are and how much they give to me.... you guys also make me realize my responsibility and privilege of teaching them about Christ and showing His love to them....

I could babble on endlessly, but instead, Ill say thank you!

I am so thankful to hear that Lydia is less fussy and enjoying mommy time much more these days. Isn't it funny, pre-kids we wouldn't dare talk about poop but with children it becomes an almost neccessity. Lydia's has been much more intense and I am so joyful to hear that it may be working itself out. I know the other two girls are also enjoying their Nana time and I know how nice it is to have some slow time, even if its too slow. I am looking forward to introducing our little boy to this house full of girls, Caleb sounds like such a joy and it makes me look forward to the months ahead. Hearing about his joyfulness makes me a little less aprehensive about bringing a boy into this world. :-) Jeremiah is not aprehensive at all, he is looking forward to having a male counterpart in this house, although I must say he is also very much crazy in love with his girls. Thinking of you often and praying for you as you tackle these new developments in Lydia's health and care.
Love,

Allison, You are so wise to enjoy each of these precioius moments with your kids. It seems like I blinked and the chaos of having 3 young children with homework, doctor's appointments, scouts, dance, chorus, karate etc. were gone. Don't get me wrong my life is still chaotic, but now it is with wedding plans and getting ready for 2/3 of the crew to be moving on with their lives. Even the tough times with the ER visits and the seemingly endless hospital stays seem much less significant now, but at the time they ruled my world. Your children are truly miracles of God and are making such phenomenol strides forward each day. Lots of hugs to you!

I have heard great things about cloth diapering but never got up the nerve to try it... or convinced Matt to (even though he was a cloth diapered baby). The site that hosts my journal has several communities devoted to cloth diapering. They're full of advice & resources on where to find the best deals. I listed the most popular one but also the page with all the communities that list cloth diapering as an interest.

It's so good to read about a healthy family. Maybe some people would read your journal and wonder how I can say "healthy," with all the physical challenges, but your obvious spiritual health totally overwhelms the problems.

I am convinced that Mamie's cancer was for the glory of God. Some say that any God who would choose some to suffer, some to live and others to die, must be an "immoral" God. I've been asked if I am ever mad at God. I can't comprehend mortals trying to judge God - it just doesn't make sense. Anyway, my little one is in the physical presence of Jesus, and yours are still glorifying Him in a secure, loving Earthly family.

Sounds like a plan.

Boy, it was quiet when we woke up this AM!
No chatting b/t the girls in the den as they waited for us to get up and only needing breakfast for two.
And no ecited discoveries ("Uncle Jeff!" as a jet flew over), and observations ("Sophie, you are not my far-ity!" & "Way to go, God" sunsets!)
Thanks for allowing us to enjoy Sophie and Amelia the last two weeks.
They are precious, well-behaved little girls that are full of life--and, of course, very smart.
Love you,
Dad

Hey! I forgot to mention how much I love the girls beautiful dresses. Easter dresses I am assuming? Mom saw you and Jason pull out of the street yesterday and I asked her "Did the turn in the direction of the hospital? Did they seem anxious?" Of course she didn't know, but it was fun guessing! Greatly anticipating the birth of this baby boy!

Allison and family - I check in often to read your posts about your family. I am a friend of your mom and dad, in fact worked with your dad when he was on staff at Ingleside. I just wanted to let you know that Jay Gaskins passed away yesterday. Someone may have already told you but I just wanted to be sure you knew. The arrangements are posted on his website.
