stitches in the front of the head....stitches in the back. Jeremy slipped on a step at the pool and wound up with stitches in the back of his noggin. He keeps us on our toes, allright!

Poor you! It really is non-stop, isn't it? How does two kids equal ten times the work of one? I don't understand the logic of that at all...

Here's hoping the kids will both get better soon. Big hugs from Aunt Beth--

Your updates always make me smile, and the pictures are priceless. So glad Jeremy is doing well, again, it gives us great hope. Luke is still not eating anything by mouth but he is involved in a new INTENSE therapy with a new Speech and Language Pathologist and big strides are finally being made. He spent all of Halloween day sucking the chocolate off of a snickers bar....messy,yes, but so good to see food on his face. Hope Jem is eating more of the 'right' stuff and less of the 'not so right' stuff and that the iron seems to be helping. Look forward to hearing from you soon and thanks for signing Luke's page.

Hugs,

It's been a great summer. This has also been a fun and educational thing for the children. Jeremy can hardly believe that soon, the over-abundant and beautiful apple tree will shed all of its apples and all its leaves in preparation for winter. Now, he knows where jelly, blueberries and peas come from. Holly has done a great job herself of preparing for winter.

we really did have a great day - I wish we could do it all over again, too. We did see those nice cabins at the state park....
The kids couldn't have been any better - they were both great! Jeremy's "specal day before school starts" was special to us all.

Only a few more days! I am retiring, and my last working day is May 7. I'm really looking forward to a little cuddle-up reading time with Jeremy and Ella, something we've had very little time for lately. Other summer plans include a trip to Six Flags (Thomas the Tank Engine is there) for all the children and grandchildren. BUT, I added it up and there are 17 (yes, 17) of us!! Hard to believe that we started out with only 3, isn't it? Anyway, Six Flags is definitely in the future. All donations appreciated (haha)...no, seriously!

Even though it's been several years since our nerve-shattering experience of the transplant, I'm still so thankful for everything that's "normal" in our lives. Sometimes, these "normal" things can be a little nerve-wracking, too. For example, I went to Khols to help Holly do some summer clothes shopping for the kids. She had picked out several nice summer shirts and pants for Jeremy and a few things for Ella. The thing that caught Jeremy's eye was a shirt with a lizard on it --- but not on sale, of course. So, Holly told him we'd wait on that one...but all through the store, through the shoe dept. and checkout, to the car, and all the way home...it's "I want a wizzard shirt wid a wizzard on it." That's been a few days ago, and still I hear the echo.....haha..Guess Grandmama will have to run to Khols and find that "wizzard shirt wid a wizzard on it."

I can not tell you how hard I laughed and cried at your latest update. We are so happy that things are going so well and that your lives seem so 'normal'.....it gives us great hope for Luke's future! I hope Jem's eye is all better and that he continues to love t-ball despite the injury, I know that Pat can't wait until Luke can play and has already purchased him a 'baby' t-ball set (very cute), Luke uses it to torture the cats. Sorry I have been out of contact, things here are so busy during the day and we have all been sick as dogs these past 2 weeks. I look so forward to talking with you again soon and thanks again for all of your help and support, it means the world to us.

Holly has been upset for so long now about Jeremy's eating problems, and tube problems. Jeremy has doctor appointments at Egleston on the 25th for tests. Please pray that we can find answers. In the meantime, Holly sweetie, we may have to be prayerfully patient and just "let it be." Watch this:

We have all been a little sappy on this big birthday, as we remember the incredible journey he has taken. Jeremy was beautiful outside yesterday and quite happy with his pockets full of plastic lizards his pawpaw gave him - and don't forget the frog. Yup, snakes and snails and puppy-dog tails, that's our boy!

We are another HLH family who just wanted to introduce ourselves. My name is Erika and my son, Luke, had his BMT for HLH on June 29, 2006 (at Cincinnati Children's Hospital) and just turned 2 on Jan. 28, 2007. I have read a lot about your incredible journey and am so inspired to see how well Jem is doing 4 years post BMT. Congratulations on your beautiful Ella, our prayer is for her to remain HLH free forever (I am sure she will). Luke, too, is doing great BUT he, like Jem, stopped eating by mouth post transplant (he had only nursed up to transplant...wouldn't even take the bottle) and then had to be intubated 5 days post BMT and NEVER ate again. He has a g-tube and gets 4 boluses a day but literally does not take anything by mouth...he wont even drink unless he is desperate. There is no medical reason we know of that is preventing him from eating, he just has no idea what hunger is or how to eat...therapy has not benefited Luke very much but we are going to start an outpatient program this spring in hopes of making so progress. We just wanted to say 'hi' and let you know how inspiring it is to read stories like yours and how much it helped me to read about your journey, especially with the eating issues. Although, I wish eating was not a problem you had to deal with, I can relate to everything you say and it makes me feel less alone. We will continue to check in on you guys now that we know where to find you.

Best Wishes,
Erika,Pat and Luke Celentano (HLH/BMT buddy)

Well, you are a jem!! And a funny one too. I found your page when your grandma found our page. It is awesome to find another HLH survivor. You were quoting statistic for HLH survival rate w/o BMT. With a BMT, we have been told at 5 years out it is only 55%. That has got to change!!! I think alot of the problem is the young age that they develop the disease. Theier bodies are so small, they have trouble dealing wtih the chemo and side effects. Anyway - do ya'll still have a g-tube? Do you use it? Megan has one and hasn't used it in 7 months but is not growing immensely. My other daughter was not big and I am short and my mother-in-law was shorter than myself. I think they are putting her under a big microscope because of the transplant. And I want that tube out soon. What do ya'll do with it? Contact me please I'd love to talk or even meet at some point if you are from near Atlanta. We are from Dunlap, the other side of Chattanooga - in a beautiful valley - The Sequatchie Valley - or as many say "God's country)
Gotta go!!!

You have the some of the funniest kids I think I've ever seen... Loved having Jeremy the other night, but sorry for the circumstances. Then again, when it rolled around about 11PM and the 3 of them were still up, I could have strung him up by toes, but he was still enjoyable!

Still enjoying the kids, though i'm quite exhausted when everything settles down. Holly is doing GREAT in school, and I'm glad to hear it - made a 100 on her test last night, so i'm proud to be able to help her at least a little. The kids have a blast playing together, though they leave my place looking like a federal disaster area!
So anyway, still waiting for new pics and stories... I know i get them all the time, but you've got a riot for a son! I love to hear things he's said!

Holly and I have had a long phone conversation this morning about the antics of kids... love the picture of ella with the pigtails, by the way! I'm enjoying watching Jeremy and Ella for Holly to get at least a few hours a week studying so that she gets good grades (way to go on your first test, too!!!) And no, Jeremy has had no further stitches, i am proud to report! and neither has ella!

Just wanted to say that I'm enjoying Jeremy's "she's acting like it!!!" and "No *sigh* I don't want to cry..." not to mention Ella's big bubble behind running all over the place and those big chipmunk cheeks with that big grin and her little eyes squished into slits, with an antennea on top of her head... Yeah, good times! Good luck with school, I'm rooting for ya!

As hard as it is to get through this, once she is better it will give you some peace that she can fight this off. Could the rash just be from the fever itself? Last year at this time Logan came down with Fifth's disease that had a rash and fever and caused me to panic. Then a week later fever started again and rash and he tested possitive for the flu, to top it off he was poss. for strep all 3 at the same time. It went through all the kids and after a VERY stressful month it gave me some peace that they could fight it off. Sad part was I got it all too while pregnant with Ethan, well you know the rest of the story.

God Bless! I think she is fine, just her immune system trying to fight it off!

I feel soooooooo horrible!!!!! Of course, the first child I carry for stitches isn't even mine (though, with Hayley's rambunction-ess, I figured she'd have been in there long ago.) But he was a trooper and showed everyone in the ER the "hole in his head." And no, I'm not the most horrible aunt ever, though right now I feel like it! Everything was fine til he fell, then all Hades broke loose. And even then, he didn't get really upset until Chris and I freaked, then he got upset until we calmed back down. But anyway, what happened is, my husband pulled out a toy, the water doodle toy with the Thomas the Tank Engine, so that the kids would have something fun to do. We had not even figured out how to get the batteries in Thomas yet. Thanks, Jeremy, Uncle Chris looked at Thomas the whole time we were at the ER trying to figure out how it happened, and he figured out how to get the things in there. But I'm not sure that it's a toy we are going to be leaving out. So, Jeremy runs, falls on Thomas. Chris was behind him, and picked him back up, but Jeremy just whined a bit and kept going forward, so Chris let him go. So Jeremy comes to me, head down (I'm still trying to figure out the water doodle doo-hickey) and crawls in my lap, lays his little head on my shoulder, and whines a little more. It's 7:30, and it's 1 more hour until his last bolus, and he hadn't had a nap all day, which he's used to (the twins are little fountains of energy, so the little heathens haven't taken naps since they were 1-1/2.) I said, "Ok, bud, we'll start getting you changed and ready for bed, and we'll go lay down, ok?" I lay him back in my lap, and there's blood on his face. I flipped. My honest-to-God first reaction was, "Pleeeease, let it be one of the twin's blood!" I don't want my kids to get hurt either, mind you, but I'd rather have called Holly and said, "I'm leaving Jeremy here with Chris and taking Hayley to the ER for stitches. The little *ahem* darling fell on a toy and cut herself." But oh, nooooo... It's not MY kid that needs the stitches. I have no luck. *sigh* Anyway, so I freaked, Chris freaked, and Jeremy freaked. I don't even know what the twins were doing, they could have been stripping out on the patio and doing hula dances for the neighbors, for all I cared at that point. So I clean it up and see what it looks like. Figure it needs a stitch or two (still freaking, but calmer.) So Jeremy gets back up and is running around and playing again (a total of maybe 5 min from the fall to this point has passed, but felt like 4 days) so it's time for me to make a call to Holly and Josh. Do you know exactly how bad I dreaded it?!?!? I'm not good at breaking bad news (Holly will attest to this fact after last night).

Anyway, sorry it's so long, just figured that everyone would want to know that no, I didn't let him dangle from the balcony, though he would have if I'd have let him. He fell and hit his head. We're thankful that it wasn't his eye, so yay.

That's too funny. Hide-and-seek is one of Lucie's favorite games, too, but the way she plays it is a little suspect. Like she always hides in the same place, and if you take too long to 'find' her she starts yelling until you do.

Wow! He is precious!!! I was refered to you by the 'Colby Clan' on the HAA website. My duaghter was 4 months when she was diagnosed with HLH. She wenet throught a BMT in May, 2006. Due to complications, she was intubated and really did not eat for months. Now, we have a g-tube and I am want to get some tips on how to get her to eat more. She takes 400 by tube -we just cut it down from 800. I see signs of her being dependent on the tube feeds. It is so good to see such a heatlhy HLH-BMT survivor. Contact me if you would like to talk.

Wow Holly, this is an amazing thing. I mean, terrible to have something like this happen to a child so young, amazing and miraculous for it to be gotten under control in what is a relatively short amount of time. Haha. I just read the update! I don't want to brag too much on our little Jeremy or anything - we know all of the glory and thankfulness goes to God...Jeremy is truly a miracle. He's a real joy, great imagination, takes much pleasure in his toys, all boy as he climbs and runs and squeals. He loves hide and seek, Winnie the Pooh, his stuffed animals, his cars, and especially his train. He does like his room (it's great!), and the baby's room is just precious, but I got a little knot in my throat when I noticed that the mobile on the baby bed is the same mobile I bought for Jeremy, when he so very sick at Egleston. Please pray that his eating issues will be resolved soon, and that Baby Ella is a fine healthy girl. Have a good day!

Well, today, September 1, is Jeremy's re-birthday. It's the day two years ago that he received the unbilical cord stem cells that saved his life. And, today, right now, he is on his way to Egleston for another infusion of antibodies. Please pray with me that it won't be too hard (his little veins are not very easy to stick), and that the 4-hour treatment will include a long nap for him. Also, please pray for the new baby, Ella Caroline, scheduled to make an appearance in November. Thank you.

I received the same "orders" 15 years ago for my kids. I just concentrated on the brushing, forget the flossing! I expressed concern about lack of brushing when we were faced with braces. Fortunately, they both survived it all and have never had a cavity! I know we don't have the medical problems that Jembug has faced but I still believe, what will be will be! He seems to be progressing well and somebody can fix whatever is wrong when the time comes. Keep up the good work, Jembug is sounding more and more like a "normal" kid

Hey Holly,
I found your son's caringbridge website through your guestbook entry on Kendrie's site. I also live in Winder and when I saw your name and that YOU lived in Winder, I just had to write. In fact, I am also a pediatric nurse at a pediatrician's office in Athens. Maybe we know each other. I have been keeping up with lots of children through caringbridge for over a year now. I will add your little boy's to my daily visits :) Email me sometime and we will see if we know each other, or maybe get to know each other since we are in the same town. Glad to hear that Jeremy is doing well.

You do not know me, but I have Katie Winstead in my small group at Christ Church in Jacksonville. Your little guy is in our prayers and thoughts. Katie told me about your website, when I had mentioned a friend of mine whose daughter is fighting a brain tumor and she has a spot on caring bridge also. As a mother I can only imagine what it must be like to see your child have to go through something like this, and I can only offer the advice of Philippians 4:13 - "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." We lift your family up and into his capable hands and pray for complete healing.
God Bless!

Jeremy looks great. I love his pretty hair. I miss him so much and hope that we will get to see each other soon. And the rest of the family too. I continue to pray for him and am amazed how powerful prayer is and how great Jeremy is doing. Give him a big kiss from Aunt Mary.

Holly, I love to hear about his eating. Yeah! I know how exciting it is. I had a terrible time getting Luke to eat. Every time I talk to heart moms, our topic of conversation always ends up on what our kids are or are not eating. We cherish every calorie and thank the Lord for every swallow. Holly-
Great job of being Jeremy's Mom! Sometimes I think we Drs and nurses take over and make Mom's feel like they can't make good decisions for their kids. However, I think they can- and you are proving it! You know the Jembug best- keep using your knowledge of him and your Mom's intuition to try new things until you find the best way to do things with him. I bet he'll be eating everything soon!

You are growing and look like such a happy little boy in your pictures. I pray that each day is an improvement to reach the ultimate goal...complete healing.

Holly, thanks so much for continuing to check on our family. We have all traveled rough roads with this disease and although our paths have taken different directions, I appreciate you staying in touch and being so supportive.

Dear Holly. I know your Mom through the 4-H office where both my children spend alot of their time. I've also known of Jeremy as a member of Union Christian Church. Having seen pictures of him from your mom and now from this web site, I feel that I have a sweet face with a fighting warrior! I am also an Occpational Therapist and am eager to hear how Jeremy responds to intervention. I know it is long past due, but hopefully he is healthy enough now and at a place that he'll do wonderfully. I can see the eagerness and alertness in his eyes and facial expression! Good luck and may God continue to bless you all, as well as all those who are caring for him.

Hello Jeremy, Holly, & Josh !

My name is Jacob. I'm a Missionary in Spain and Christy has sent me you Prayer Request. I want to pray for you and your Family.

Dear Heavanly Father . . . Lord Jesus,
I thank You for the life of Jeremy. I praise You that You have brought him into this world. And Lord, You know the purpose of Jeremy's life. You know the plans You have for him. I ask that Your Perfect Will would be done in his life. That his life would be for the glory of Your Kingdom and for Your Purpose. You are the God that we serve and we praise You for who You are and for what You are going to do in Jeremy's life.
I ask that You would never let Jeremy slip from Your Presence and that Your powerful Hand would be in every second on his life. If it'd be Your Will, Jesus, I ask that You would completely heal Jeremy and bless his life with Your very own Mouth. I ask that You would speak the words and bless his life. I ask that You touch his body and heal him completely . . . if it'd be Your Will Lord Jesus.
I lift every word of this prayer in Your Name, Lord Jesus. Let Your Will be done.

Amen

Hi Holly,
Glad to hear that Jeremy isn't getting sick any in the past day or so. That is a good sign. A year or two from now you will look back on this and smile at what a fighter you have. When I look at Kyle it is hard to believe that it has been almost 6 years since his transplant. We have Ethan too,and thank God his is fine, but I had my tubes tied when I had him. We are planning to adopt a little girl at some point. There are plenty out there that need homes. Just keep hanging in there and never forget who has the final say in everything...God does.

Dear Jeremy, Josh and Holly,
Mike had breakfast with Grandpa Winstead this morning and told me to check out the web-site and see "little Bob". Wow! What a cutie! He is getting so big and I love the hat. Tucker had a circular seat like Jeremy's and he just loved it. There wasn't an object on there that didn't get his full attention. So sorry that Jeremy is back in the hospital. We have been keeping up with you-all by way of Robert Brown and different people at EUMC. A member of EUMC had Jeremy on the prayer list the week of his birthday. We continue to pray for him but were equally celebrating the fact that he was here to celebrate his 1st birthday. What an example of faith, courage, and perseverance all of you have been to me. If his genes include all of the strength you all have shown these past 9 months, then he will grow to be a strong and healthy little boy! May God continue to bring Jeremy to wholeness.
With much love,

We hope that you will PLEASE let the Angels in Atlanta know if you need anything at all while Jeremy is at the Egg. I can't imagine how hard it must be to be away from home. We will continue to pray for that sweet little boy of yours!

Holly:

It sounds like things may be turning around and a mother's instincts go a long way. Zachary was placed on Nutramigen after his issues with GVHD because of the milk allergy concerns. He did well with it, the only thing is that it smells awful and tastes just as bad. The nutritionist recommended that we flavor it with Nestle quik vanilla flavoring and it worked. It also added calories that he was needing. Hope this helps.

Jeremy good luck with your tests little one. You are always in our thoughts and prayers.

We are cheering you all on and praying for complete healing.

Hugs and prayers,

It's amazing the friendships that develop among those whose children are sick and how they are interwoven with so many people. Our family goes to EUMC and heard about your precious family and have tried to keep uptodate with Jeremy's prognosis. I (Kerra) have been checking in with a website for Luke that I heard of through a college friend whose daughter also had HLHS. Amazing when I checked his website today and looked at the prayer requests did I see a familiar name. God Bless you and your family. Our church continues to pray for all of you.

Hi Holly and Jembug,
Sorry you guys are back in the hospital, but with the things that are happening, it is probably better than being home with worry and uncertainty. It is encouraging that he is keeping his nutrition down, and good that they are checking to make sure his reflux is just reflux, and hopefully can be controlled with different meds. Our prayer chain is stepping up the prayers for you guys, and for Josh too, now that we know he is under the weather. Take care of little Jembug, and I hope you'll soon have good news about both your 'boys'. I'll be praying.
God Bless,

Dear Holly and Josh:
I got to your site through William Olson's. I've spent the last hour or so reading through past journal entries to learn more about Jeremy's condition and your experiences. I gasped when I saw his sweet picture. He's so tiny. It reminded me of my little one, who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma at only 5 weeks old. I think I can imagine what you've felt. It's just not the experience you are supposed to have with a newborn. If it gives you any hope, I wanted to tell you that our little guy is now 3 and a half and doing GREAT! We're cheering you on!

Jeremy,
I can't believe how empty the house felt when I woke up this morning and you weren't here. I was so glad you could finally go home to Winder yesterday but I'm already missing your sweet smile. Heard from your mom today that you didn't sleep very well last night--missing me too, huh?
Yesterday's visit to the clinic was such a boost to everyone's spirits. Your counts are so great--white and red counts, as well as platelets. The transplant has been such a tremendous success! And now the doctor says you can start solid food again, and physical therapy to help you catch up to the other kids your age. Yeah!!!!!!
We're all praying that you'll continue to get stronger and healthier every day. I do miss you and can't wait 'til Granddad and I come to see you at your house.
All my love to you and your mom and dad.

We never had the priviledge of meeting you while Grandpa was at Ebenezer but you have been in our prayers from the begining. Jeremy is lifted in Sunday School class every week. This past week Lori Wagnon told us of this wonderful web site....We spent time at Egelston with our son Casey with a rare infection and were blessed with their care as you have been. Thank God for his blessing these very special Doctors and Nurses so that they may provide such loving care for our little ones. I have read all the beautiful messages from all of the gracious people. You are blessed with so many loving and caring family and friends. The news is the best I have heard and we will continue to pray for his continued recovery. I come to this site every day to read the updates and sometimes, I just visit to look at little Jeremy's picture. If I ever feel like I am having the worst day, I come here and see a little baby smiling and just remembering his story, my "bad" day seems to vanish. I am 18 years old but I have learned so much from this precious little one. Holly and family.. you have such a beautiful gift from God and I know that God is watching over him! I do not believe that God has brought him this far to not completely heal him and I know that He will, in His own time. Keep up the faith and be strong. I also look up to this family, even though I do not know any of you, I look up to all of you for being so strong and holding on to your faith, even if at times, it was very low. You are in God's favor and I know that He is going to continue to bless you all. My church in Watkinsville is continuing to pray for Jeremy and the family. News from the Winstead Homefront:
Jeremy has had a good week, although he still doesn't eat very well. He is getting plenty of nutrition though, using IV fluids and NG tube feedings at night, plus some bottle feeds during the day. His blood counts have been good all week, with WBC and Platelets staying close to the normal range. Special thanks to Aunt Mary from Jacksonville who has come to the rescue this week and been our 24/7 live-in RN. We couldn't have made it without her. Jeremy's best day this week was when his mom and dad visited on Wednesday afternoon - he smiled and laughed and cooed even after they went home! I am so sorry to hear about your foot, Holly. I know you are going through enough pain with Jeremy right now than you to have to deal with physical pain of your own but just keep that foot up and get some rest. I am so glad to hear that little Jeremy is doing better. We have really been praying for him at my church and I have a lot of ladies praying for him. He is so special to my heart, even though I have never met him and even though I don't know him or the family. He is one strong fighter though and even though he is only a baby, I have learned so much from him. I have learned that hard times are going to come our way but you just have to fight through all of them and everything will be ok. God has really had favor with this precious one and I know that He is going to continue to heal his little body. Healing is a process, and God will fix it all in His time. God has His own timing and when He sees it fit, He will give Jeremy and the whole family, everything they need. I have tried to think and understand why a precious, innocent baby would have to go through such pain at such a young age but we don't know. Only God knows and He does have a reason for this. But He is with Jeremy and He has brought him so far and He is not going to leave him or the family. The darkest point of the night is right before dawn so you can take that and apply it to this situation: Just when you feel like you are at the lowest point and the situation seems hopeless and that you are out there all alone, the darkest point is right before the break-through, the light. So when you are faced with that ultimate darkness, just know that the light is coming! I am continuing to pray for Jeremy and the family. God bless you all

Bishop, Ga USA - Monday, October 25, 2004 10:48 AM CDT

I posted earlier about the little baby boy in our church and how he was born with a very rare disease that affects his kidneys and only boys are born with. They weren't expecting him to make it in his mother's womb, but we prayed and prayed for the mother while she was pregnant and for the baby and God worked a miracle to even allow the baby to be born sucessfully. Well, God is giving this baby a healing but as I have said before, healing is a process and God will do it in His own time. Anyways, when he was born, he only had 45 to 50 percent of his kidneys working but he went to the doctor on Friday and the doctor sat scratching his head because now, at one years old, that precious baby has 100 percent of his kidneys working! The doctor said that he does not know how this happened but we do! We know that God has worked a miracle and touched that baby's body! Now, I say to you, Holly and Josh and the rest of the family, GOD is no respector of persons. If he will do it for the Wilson family, He will do it for you. Jeremy's healing has already been payed for. When Jesus was nailed on that cross, He took the stripes for our healing. "By His stripes, we are healed" All you have to do is put your complete trust in God and know that He is able and He is the only one able to heal your precious baby. Our church as been praying for him every service and I have talked with a few there that are praying for him every day and night. Keep the faith and be strong. God can and will make a way as long as we keep believing and never give up on God or Jeremy. I am praying for him and the family and trusting God with you all that he is going to be OK~ God bless you all.

Dear Josh and Holly,
Words cannot describe how thrilled we are for you all as you draw closer and closer to a "normal" life with Jeremy; at least one away from the hospital. I have a feeling that Grandma & Grandpa Winstead will love having whatever mess you bring into their home. Mike and I spent the day with our little Tucker and I cannot wait for you all to be able to sit in the middle of toys, and exersaucers and swings and stuffed animals in your own home. God is good and you all are a wonderful example of His great love for all of us. Keep up the good work Jeremy. We all look forward to seeing those pictures of you on Santa's lap!
Lots and Love and continued prayers

Hello there little man! I have been reading your mommy's updates about you and I am so excited that things are looking up. You don't know me and I don't know you but you sure are a strong baby. Even though you are only 6 months old and I am 18 years old, I look up to you for being so strong though your sickness. You have a lot of people all over this country, rooting and cheering you on. Keep it up little one and you will be just fine. To the parents and family, keep your head up and be strong. God is in control and He knows exactly what He is doing. I know that it is hard to grip that fact but don't lose the faith! He CAN and WILL make a way for your precious baby. May God richly bless you all for your faithfulness, effort, and love for someone so precious as your Jembug. He is just adorable!

Hang on you guys. I know the months of worry and fear have been torture, and I am so thankful to know the new cells are doing their job, yet there are still seem to be mountains to climb. They are foothills now though--Jeremy climbed the mountain, and He was waiting to touch the good cells and make them grow and multiply, and heal his little body, and the view from the top was indescribable for all who celebrated his cure. To feel that pure joy, and witness the enormity of our collective faith, and the results of so many joined in prayer, was an experience none of us will ever forget. As much as we had hoped the trip back down the mountain would be smooth, we must not forget the struggle to get to the top, or the lessons we learned along the way. Jeremy's sweet little 6 month old body has scars from the struggle that need time to heal. Knowing the source of his pain, and how badly his tummy hurts, has to be almost unbearable for you, and when combined with the exhaustion of the past few months, is enough to leave you feeling drained and helpless as you face a whole new set of health challenges. Jembug still has lessons for all of us, and even as human weakness allows us to get discouraged, He will provide, and prayers are needed now just as much as they were before we knew Jembug's new immune system was working. I continue to pray for Jembug, that his pain will be releived, and for Holly, Josh, and the wonderful Grandparents, that each of you will be comforted, get some much needed rest, and have peace in the knowledge that God is ever vigilant and watchful over Jeremy, and He is in control.
"But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen." (1Pe 5 KJV)
In His Love,
Connie

God does not leave us to go through tough times alone! He is always right beside us and I know that it is no different with this situation. Stay strong, if not for anyone, do it for Jeremy! He has been such a strong fighter, let's help his recovery go much smoother by showering him with love, support, and strength! God will be your help when your strength seems to be low. I have shared the miraculous results of Jeremy's test with all of my Disciple Bible Study participants here at Ebenezer. Wish I could have taken a picture of the great joy as well as relief all expressed with the news. Jeremy is the result of one miracle after another. Hello,
I saw your son's name listed on William Olson's webpage, and just wanted to say that my heart goes out to you, and your baby. I will add him to my prayer list. My daughter had a BMT at Egleston on April 20, so we know some of what you are going through. I was glad to hear of you treating the other families with milkshakes - I think it helps to find others to bless at times like this. Wonderful news Holly, Josh, and Sweet Jembug!!! I am so thrilled, and God is so awesome--this is BIG!! A few more hurdles to cross, but your on your way Jeremy. Go amaze a few more doctors with your healthy cells, and now that we know how great things are going, you need to start eating a bit more to celebrate. That's what we do, but you haven't had a chance to learn all that yet--we eat when we are happy, sad, or just hungry. Holly, Josh--I know you hate for Jembug to have any more procedures, but the endoscopy might clear up some of the uncertainties with Jeremy's tummy, and I'm praying it will be a very quick procedure with more fantastic results. Prayers have been answered, and more are being offered--hang on and watch Him work a few more miracles in this precious child's life.
Love,
Connie

You are all in my prayers! I can only imagine how difficult it is to see your child so sick. Jeremy, hang in there!

I used to be a regular apheresis donor at the Red Cross, but I haven't given in several years. I wasn't the right blood type for Jeremy, but I called the Red Cross and made an appointment to start giving platelets again. When I give, I like to pray for the person who will receive the blood, even though I don't know to whom it is going. Jeremy's story certainly makes the process much more real. I'll give with him in mind, knowing that I'm helping someone else.

To precious Jeremy and family:
My heart goes out to you! This story has touched my heart in such a big way. I am only 18 years old and through Jeremy's story, I have learned so much. I have learned the value of life and I have learned that sometimes, you have to fight your way out of a test and trial. It is so easy for us sometimes to want to give up and forget about everything because we think "it is just to hard." And now, we hear a story of a little baby, fighting his way through his sickness and teaching all of us "grown ups" how it needs to be done. Little Jeremy, you hang in there. You have come so far and we are all rooting for you. You don't know me, I don't know you or anyone in your family but I do know of a GOD that does know you and your family and He sees what you are having to go through and He is right there beside you. He really has favor with you and He is going to bless your every efforts. To the family, everytime you feel a burst of peace and a calm come over you, that is GOD wrapping His arms around you and letting you know that things are looking up. The main thing is that you just have to keep trusting Him, even though we don't understand why this precious baby has to go through such terrible pain; it is all in God's plan. You can't lose sight of that fact. God is in control and I believe that He has an awesome plan for little Jeremy's life. I want to share a story with you about a couple in my church. They tried three times to have a child. Everytime it was a boy and he had a very rare disease that only boys can get and the first two didn't make it. On the third try, the news was no better but they decided that this time, they were going to seek God and trust in Him that they would conceive this child. We prayed and prayed and prayed for their little one and when they went to the doctor one day, the doctors were amazed and speechless when the results came back. The baby was going to make it! Something happened (we know it was the hand of GOD), and fixed the problem and to this day, He is the most precious baby and one of the happiest ones around. His healing didn't come at one time but in God's time. I know that this very same miracle can come into the little body of Jeremy and soon, He will be a healthy, happy little boy. I believe that and trust it in Jesus' name! I just wanted to share this with you to maybe, in some way, boost your hope and faith in God. Jeremy may not be fully recovered right now and it may seem doubtful at times but God is doing a work. Don't give up! Little Jeremy is not giving up so keep up the faith! I believe that your precious baby is going to be ok in God's time. GOD has a reason for this trial and you may never know why but just know that God is in this trial with you and He will make this trial a blessing. Jeremy, you are such a blessing to me and you have touched my heart more than you will ever know. You have taught me to keep going through the hard times no matter what. Thank you, and I thank the family for sharing this story and giving me the opportunity to pray for you. May God bless each of you for your effort, dedication, love, and prayers and bless your little Jeremy. With His love.

I am praying for you all daily along with many other people in your extended Christian family. I will be especially in prayer for the results of the graft you will be receiving this coming week. Josh and Holly take care for your health. Jeremy needs you to be well and mentally fit when he comes home. Remember to take minutes in the day just to relax and love each other. The Lord is watching over you and he offers his strength in your moments of weakness. He has given both of you wonderful loving and supportive parents and friends to help you share your burden. Dear Holly, Josh, and Precious Little One, Jembug,
You have stolen all of our hearts with your enduring spirit and tireless fight against this strange illness that has rocked your world and the world's of all who love you--those who loved you from the moment they excitedly planned for your birth, and those of us who have come to love you through your story of struggle and triumph written here on this site, and in many emails sent to all who anxiously wait for news from 'the Egg'. Jembug, your Mom has faithfully and courageously shared your story, and your Dad and Grandparents have inspired so many people with their dedication, their faithfullness, their love, and trust in our Lord. Because of you, and their sharing of your fight for a healthy immune system, many people who know you only by your name, your pictures, and your story, have become prayer warriors, and have been inspired with a new sense of hope, a stronger faith, and a closer relationship with God. For just a little fellow, you have already accomplished many great things without ever speaking or writing a word, and at only a few months old, have become an instrument of our Awesome God to encourage and bless each of us according to the needs only known and fulfilled through Him. Thank you Jembug, and all of your family, for allowing us to share your roller coaster ride, and honoring us with the priviledge to pray for you, for the inspiration we receive as we witness your courage, your steadfast faith, never ending hope, and deepest love. I continue to pray for each of you, and rejoice with you at every sign of a stronger immune system, and for each day you are closer to going home and filling the quiet with the most joyful noises imaginable! Holly, Josh, Buckle Up! This kid is definitely going places, and has a really big head start! Jembug, watching you grow will give your Mom and Dad the most thrilling ride ever, and they will love every second of it, as will each of us whose lives you have touched.
In His Love, and His Time, and at His Will.

Dear Jeremy,
It's been a while since I've signed your guestbook, but I check on your progress and pray for you every day. You are so precious and such a tremendous inspiration to us all. Thanks for fighting so hard, and for the wonderful spirit you have had through all of this. You are doing so well -- I can't wait for the time that we can run and play with you, and my kids can't wait to meet you. I want to thank your parents and grandparents, also. Jeremy, you are very blessed to have such a wonderful, caring family. They have been tremendously strong through all of this and have given so freely of themselves for you. I'm so appreciative of the way they have let us be a part of this journey -- the udates have been such a great way to keep up with how you are doing. Hi Jeremy,
What exciting news to here that you could be going home soon. Someday you'll be amazed at all the " fussin " that has been made over you. Even though you are so young and we are almost as old as dirt, you're an inspiration to us seeing that wonderful smile and knowing what you've been going through.

Holly, Josh & Jeremy. I've been praying daily for you all for several months. You have been lifted up in prayer several times at the Bishop UMC also. Jeremy is so precious. He sounds like such a fighter (getting it honest from his parents!) Remember,"My grace if sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." God's power is so utterly strong when we are at our weakest and you will find that strength as you continue to lean on Him. Keep trusting in the knowledge that God is good and He will never, ever leave you! May God bless each of you in a way that you can literally feel his angels aurrounding you.

What a stir you are causing! I have been reading the letters from all the people that are praying for you and your family and I am struck by the outpouring of love. God uses ALL THINGS for good. I don't know how but I know He does. I pray for you several times a day. I ask God to heal your little body so that you might be all that He designed you to be. Family, stay strong and take courage.

Hi,

I am praying for little Jeremy. I can't imagine the pain ya'll are feeling, but God can. You just hang on as tight to Him as you can. Don't take your eyes off of Jesus.

Let me also encourage anyone able to give platlettes. I know about giving platlettes; it is not that bad. Truly, the worst part is when they prick your finger to check your iron count. :o) It is much less tiring than giving whole blood.

Rick Moser <rick.moser@gtri.gatech.edu>

For all the wonderful folks who are keeping up with us thru this site:

I gave platelets today and here's how to do it. First call me (Bob @ 770-235-8654) or email Holly's Mom (Carolyn Pritchett: carolynp@uga.edu) and give us your name so we can put you on the "Designated Donors" list. Then call Red Cross and set up an appointment. You can call any donation center and tell them you are a designated donor for Jeremy Winstead and you want to set up an appointment for apheresis donation. It will take about 2 to 3 hours. You can't really read because both your arms will be busy, but they will let you watch a movie or TV. Thanks in advance from Josh and Holly and Jeremy and all us grandparents. We love you!

To all our friends reading the journal:
As you can tell, we need your help with platelets. This means going to a Red Cross donation site and spending 2 to 3 hours there. Please email Holly or Carolyn first then call Red Cross in order to get an appointment. I know this is alot to ask, but Jeremy's health depends on it and many other children need this desperately, too. Thank you for your prayers - and thank you for your blood!

As I sit here reading your update and re-reading Josh's journal entry I am reminded of just how blessed I am to have such an amazing son, daughter-in-law and grandson. Josh, you've become all that I ever dreamed you'd be---a sensitive, loving, strong, human being. Holly, Josh is so lucky to have found in you a wonderful partner to share his life with. And Jeremy is so awesome and I'm sure he will grow to be a marvelous reflection of the love the two of you share. Thank you for sharing with all of us the joy and pain of your life. I understand all to well what you and your family are going thru. I was diagnoised with (ALL) a childhood leukemia, and had a bone marrow transplant March 14, 2003. To the Jembug man, Holly and Josh----thanks for the update on this beautiful Friday afternoon. The news is positive and getting better, even with the ups and downs. This website is inspirational and uplifting for those checking in, whether signing in or not, and hopefully for you all. It will be a unique treasure for Jeremy in a number of years when he can take it all in. Jeremy you're in the weekly group and daily individual thoughts and prayers of our Haygood Disciple Group---and obviously from a review of this guestbook, a bazillion others, give or take a few, all over the place. God be with you all every step of the way.

Hi Holly,
I am in one of the prayer chains that has been keeping up with your precious Jembug. I am so glad to hear his counts are showing improvement, and will continue prayers for him and all of your family. I know you have experienced many highs and lows, but prayers are being answered, and Jeremy is getting better. Soon you'll be giving us the wonderful news that the 'good' immune system is working as it should. I'll be praying for that day, and for you to continue to have the extraordinary strength that is helping Jeremy win this battle.

I want you to know that there are many of us out here in cyberworld who are holding you in our hearts and thoughts as you go through this rough journey. Right now, I am picturing you taking your first step, learning to read, running through your yard, kicking a ball, climbing a tree, playing hide and seek with your friends, going to school, swimming, arguing with your Mom, sitting on a fence, getting your first kiss, playing catch with your Dad, paddling a canoe at camp, hugging your Grandma, going to a baseball game with your Grandpa, taking your girlfriend to the movies, graduating from high school, arguing on a debate team in college, receiving your first paycheck, buying your first house, getting married, seeing your baby being born...

As long as we believe and lean on his grace and mercy, he will never forsake us. He said it in his word, and it shall be so. Give Him all the glory and all the praise. Hallelujah!

Although our "traveling family," The Lynyrd Skynyrd Band, keeps us criss-crossing the country, there is a private time in one of the dressing rooms backstage at all the different venues in which the band members join together in prayer before each concert for you, precious lil' Jeremy. They have joined together in agreement, each and every night, for your continued good health, and say IT IS SO. You don't know these folks yet, dear Jeremy, but one day, you will. And you will also know that if THESE guys claim it, well, let's just say that there's not many who would ever disagree with them on that! So, you see, not only do you have God, family, and friends agreeing in prayer, you've got LEGENDS in the music world backing you, too! :)

Keep strong and God will see you through this rough period in your lives. Like many other people, Jeremy and his family are in our prayers. We look forward to his recovery and hope to see all of you soon.

Through this wonderful venue, we can widen the circle of love that surrounds Jeremy and through every prayer, thought, and letter of support, that circle is strengthened. We pray daily that God will continue to provide strength and comfort to you as you endure the pain your heart feels and that God’s love and healing will cradle Jeremy at this agonizing time in his young life. Dear Holly, Josh, Carolyn and Johnny, thank you letting us know the progress of Jeremy. He certainly is one of God's little angels. I am praying that he continues to get better and that the time will come quickly. I feel so sorry for the little fellow, especially not being able to talk and let anyone know just what he feels. I am sure God has a special plan for Jeremy and the entire family. With all the cancer illiness' we have had in our family I always thank God first and then the doctors and drug companies for everything they do to help people survive these terrible diseases. Hi Holly,
You and I have most likely never met. A friend recently forwarded to me the website of Jeremy's on-going battle . I hope you won't mind if I forward it to other prayer warriors.
I know that what you are experiencing now is indescribable. I have had health issues of my own and I'm also a nurse who has seen some of the unbelievable things that can happen to the human body. I've also witnessed the amazing strength of will that God has blessed even the tiniest of babies with.
I just wanted to tell you that you are not alone. You have a host of angels with Jeremy and with you right now. Many prayers are going up and will continue to bombard heaven on your behalf! I will continue to keep checking his web site and will keep praying.
God bless you all with strength, grace and peace of mind. May there be angels to guide and hold you up when ever you need them. May the Lord grant you and all of Jeremy's care takers wisdom to make the wisest choices on behalf of your family. And may you be always comforted by the spirit of our loving Father who remains when an imperfect world causes suffering.
There are miracles to be had! I've seen them! Keep believing when even common sense tells you not to.
God bless you all now and always!

Dear Josh and Holly,
My name is Pattye Hewitt and I am an Associate Pastor in Mandeville Louisiana. Josh, your dad was one of my professors at Course of Study this summer and we all shared his concern for you, Holly and of course Jeremy. We prayed for him in the middle of our classroom, envoking the Holy Spirit to bring healing and comfort. Know that Jeremy's little body is being prayed for by many, all across the country. Though this time of trial seems to be unbearable, claim the strength and power of Christ, looking forward to days of health and restoration. Knowing how much he is loved and cherished by your families, there is no doubt that he will come through this time healthy and strong. He's a beautiful baby boy! In Christ's love, Pattye

Dear Jeremy: You are a brave little boy and what a story you will have to tell when you are well. I've known your Winstead grans a long time and your Dad, since he was in high school and I know they all love you very much. You just keep on kicking to be well and strong. (Holly & Josh--You are also very courageous and I know you're tired. I trust you are resting in God's arms--God is most definitely big enough to hold all your care. Give Kathy & Bob a hug for me--They mean a lot to me, so you do too.) Love & prayers to all, Gail Thompson, Suwanee FUMC (affectionately Rev. Gail)

He's a beautiful baby, Holly. I know before you had him, you could never imagine loving anyone or anything so much, or how his sweet smile would make you feel so complete. When I check my email, the 1st thing I read is "update--little Jeremy". Your Mom has done a wonderful job keeping the prayer chains up to date on Jeremy's progress. As each of us passes these emails, and now this site, to others, we are covering the world with prayer requests for Jeremy, and for all those who love him so very much. I know you must be mentally and physically exhausted, but you are blessed with a special strength, a Mother's strength to care for her child. That strength, and many prayers, will carry both you and Jeremy through whatever you must endure, until we all joyously pass along the email that says "Jeremy is well!". I add my prayers for Jeremy's healing, and for strength, endurance, and peace for him and for your family.
God Bless,
Connie

Sweet Jeremy, you have traveled such a challenging road and are doing a beautiful job. Give your family many smiles to remind them how strong that you are and how very much you love them.

My son, Zachary, is 5 1/2 months post-transplant and was also diagnosed with HLH at 10 weeks of age. I remember their baby days like it was yesterday and so my heart aches for you and all that you are going through. So today I pray for strength, comfort and courage to face what is before you. I am praying for your family to be ONE and united in the midst of all of these difficulties. When you feel like you can't take it any longer, just remember to breathe once more and take one more step. I am praying for you to have the courage to do so! May you know God's presence in a way you never have before and may you see more of who He is through all that is before you. With love, Alice Woodard

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. I am so happy to hear that Jeremy is doing well... What a little fighter! I first read about baby Jeremy on the histio.org site as my son is going through the same thing/same diagnosis. He is in the induction phase of treatment and so far so good... we are waiting for him to be healthy enough for a BMT. It was so nice to read that Jeremy did so well and that he did not wait long for the BMT. I have been thinking of you all so often as the fears that you have written about are the same as we are feeling. We will continue to pray for Jeremy and his family.

I know what it's like to go through a trying time with someone you love. When my grandson was born his lungs were not quite developed, Elgeston hospital was our home for the first 6 wks of his life. I could'nt thank the Lord enough, for the place that he was sent to get well. The care and love they give to you and your child is heaven sent. God bless Jeremy and his family, and may each day be a better and stronger one for him and his family. My prayers are out to you.

Holly, Josh, and Jeremy,
You don't know me but I am one of the secretaries at Mars Hill Baptist Church and Kathy Hayes has been keeping us updated on Jeremy. Please know that you are all in my prayers. I pray for strength, comfort, healing, and peace for each new day. I cannot imagine what you have been through (and are going through) but my heart goes out to you. I know it is so much harder to watch our child suffer and struggle than it is to take the pain ourselves. I am so thankful that you have placed Jeremy in God's loving hands, our Father who loves our children even more than we do! May you continue to know that He is everlasting and that He is our tower of refuge and strength. God Bless you all!

I can't begin to tell you the number of calls, e-mails, thoughts, and prayers that have been sent on your behalf. You are a special little person to all of us at the ACC Fire Department and all the government employees. God has already used you to bring a large group of employees to their knees to pray daily for you and I'm sure he has other paths for you to travel. The e-mails from your Grandmother Carolyn are traveling around this country and prayers are being said for you everywhere. Hold strong to your faith and know that you are being lifted up to God every day & night in prayer. We love you all!

We pray daily for all of you and that God will heal little Jeremy and strengthen each one of you. We have a 15 week old little boy, so this is hitting so close to home each time we read an update and we gaze out our son and try to imagine what you are going through during this hard time. You have been put on many prayer lists and God hears each whimper, sees each tear and wraps His gentle loving arms around you when we ask. We love you and continue to pray.

You keep holding on to GOD and looking to him for FAITH. You are such a strong person. I love the pictures. He is a cutie pie. Please let us know if we can help you in any way. Can't wait to see him and hold him.
Love you all very much!
