Summer holidays are finished school is back.Eduardas was enjoyig summer so much he did and saw a lot.Now he is back to school like all his friends.He is from 8.30 am to 16.00 p.m at school.Treatment was finished on 15 of July ( 6 round of Roaccutane).Now he is NED and we'll take out port-a-cach in 2 weeks.

Hello,
Eduardas is doing great! He just finished his scholl year on 7 of July.He passed en exam to the next class.At the moment he is on the last (ro)accutane cure untill 15 of July. The hospital organized 3 days trip on the Mediterranee sea which he enjoyed very much. So after 15 th of July he will get vacation untill 21 of August we will be back to the hospital fot the final exams at the end of all very long treatment.Wait and see and by the time enjoy vacation all of us!

Hello,
The last MIBG was clear no more black spots on it for the first time since the begining of the fight against NB 14 months ago ,MIBG showed no more disease in Eduardas body.There was his best friend Maxime from Toulouse for 2 weeks staying with us.We had wonderful time together.Eduardas is back to school after 14 months of break because of NB treatment.He is so happy.So he just finished the 4th round of (ro)accutane next one will be atthe begining of June.

Hello,
Eduardas doing great just spend his weekend in the mountains see new pictures on Spring 2006.Today he will start 2 weeks of roaccutane so it's the fird round.The second was missed he did only 6 days after he couth a cold he got a temperature and he had to stop roaccutane.So now he will take lower dose 110 mg per day.Wait and see.If this round will be good tolerated the fourth round will be 150 mg again.Blood counts are very good.

Eduardas is just back from his fantastic vacation in Mauritius.
It was really great as soon as I will get all pictures I will write more about the trip.
9 of march he will start second round of Roaccutane
(accutane) 150 mg a day the first round was quite difficult for him.The skin was very very dry he was tired and angry.Lets' hope now it will be better.

Hello,

Eduardas is just approaching the last step of his treatment.If the blood chek will be ok today he will start roaccutane( or accutane )tomorrow.He will take 150 mg medicine (7 pills) per day for 14 days and when 14 days brake. So 6 rounds to go it will take 6 months.This medicine is A-vitamin based retinoids which are proven to kill NB cells in many cases.

And if.............
everything will goes well he'll make a blood cheks once per 2 weeks and he will go only once per month to the hospital to see his doctor.And if everything goes well he will make all cheks( scans,ultrasound,x-ray,MIGB)in about 4 month.

Today he feels great living normal life and doing many different activities and of course looking forward for vacation in february.

Si son bilan sangen est parfait.Avec roaccutane il va fair 2 fois le bilan de sang par mois est une visit a l'hopital voir son medecin traiten en consultasion.Si tu va bien il va fair le bilan complet dans 4 mois.Aujourd'hui il va tres bien .

On Saturday we had a very nice party for Eduardas 9 th birthday.He was very very happy with his present ROBOSAPIEN! We still doing radiotherapy every every day.HE feels great and preparing for Christmas.We got Christmas tradition a live Santa Claus is coming home! That's the bigest surprise for children!

Jam nieko neskauda nera jokiu salutiniu poveikiu.Kieviena ryta jis dar lanko reabilitacija.Kadangi per visas chemija sulyso ir sukudo tai visai nebeliko raumenu ir nebera jegu todel reikia sportuoti.
Kiekviena ketvirtadieni darom kraujo tyrima nes nuo radioterapijos plazma gali sumazeti todel reikia stebeti.Bet kolkas viskas OK.
Dabar labai laukiam Kaledu senio ateis jis pats ar tik dovanas paliks?

Just 10 after Eduardas stem cells transplant his white cells are already 2000, neutro 1000. HD hemio went as easy as possible. He is very hungry but his taste is changed! Next week we will go home and we will make some holidays in the mountains.He is just dreaming to go back to Izola 2000.
Next step of the treatment will be decided in nomember !

Tik 10 dienu po Eduko kamieniniu lasteliu isodinimo ir mus jau isleido is sterilios zonos ! Nes siandien liauokcitai jau pakilo iki 2000 ,neutrofilai 1000 . Daktarai ir mes begalo laimingi !!! Jokiu baisiu komplikaciju nebuvo praktiskai viskas buvo kaip eiline chemija ,temperatura buvo pakilusi tik iki 38 C ir tik 24 valandoms ir gleivine burnoje buvo nenormali.Bet jis turi apetita tik jo skonio receptoriai nuo chemijos visai pasikeite ,bet po kurio laiko jie bus vel tokie kokie buvo anksciau!
Dabar visa spalio menesi mums duos atsikvepti ir lapkrycio men bus tyrimai po kuriu bus nuspresta kas bus toliau!O spalio men bus atostogos kalnuose ..........

Hello, Bonjour, Sveiki !!!!!!!!!!!!!

On 19/09/2005 STEM CELLS TRANSPLANT WAS DONE.It was very quick just 10-15 min. since 13/09/05
he got hd chemio - busulfex 4 days every 6 hours for 2 hours- and mulfelen 1 injection for 20 min. HD chemio went without any problems he was studing ,playing and eating but since yesterday he is more tired. He`s white cells are 1000 so we are waiting to go down to 0! He stiil gets some apetite but hospital`s good is really bad....

Nuo rugsejo 13 - 18 dienos Edukui buvo padaryta super didele chemijos doze ( 4 dienas busulfex kas 6 valandas po 2 valandas ir 1 melfelen injekcija 20 min).Apetita jis dar turi nors noretu valgyti tik pica ar blynus ,bet cia jis gali valgyti tik super sterilu ligonines maista ,kuris jam aisku visai nepatinka, o jis ne is tu, kurie valgo bet ka ! Jis valgo tik tai ka jis nori arba nieko !!!

HD chemio started on monday 12 of september 2005 with stem cells transplant will follow next week but so far so good! Wait and see next week.The room is very very small but still he can wach TV ,play PC or PS he is doing homeworks and working with hospital`s teacher .

Taigi prasidejo II gydymo etapas, ty super stipri chemijos doze 5 dienas .Kita savaite sulasins jo kamienines lasteles ir tada reikes laukti neutropenijos (neutropenija-labai mazas leukocitu kiekis kraujyje tuo metu ligoniukai neturi jokio imuniteto ir jiems bet kokia infekcija gali buti net mirtina nes pats organizmas visai nebekovoja). Neutropenija gali testis nuo 1 iki 10 dienu su labai auksta temperatura, su baisiais berimais burnoje , stempeleje ir tt ,nuskausminimui gali prireikti net morfijaus .Gali buti visa eile kitu salutiniu poveikiu ir komplikaciju o gali ir nieko nebuti! Zodziu kiekvienas vaikas skirtingas !Laikas parodys.Todel sitas 3 pirmas savaites mes esam super sterilioje zonoje.Pvz : as i palata negaliu nieko atsinesti ne sterilizuoto ir turiu apsirengti specialius sterilius ligonines drabuzius ir batus, kiekviena karta kai iseinu is kmbario turiu vel viska persirengti ir uzsideti naujus steriliu drabuzius.

On Saturday (13/8/05)Eduardas came back home after his 10 ht round of chemio(CADO).You can see new pictures made on the same day in the pool he was already swimming with sister Alexandra.He feels great!His blood counts are still ok but he is in neutropenia.
Since 14/8/05 Eduardas is getting injections of Granocyte-34 every atfernoon which makes his bones marrow work harder.
On tuesday(23/8/5)Eduardas is going back to the hospital to collect his stem cells.On wensday(24/8/5) he will make a lot of pre stem cells transplant checks.
On the 1st of september he is making scan.Thank you for being with us!

Hello everybody!
Thank you for reading and signing Eduardas guest book, it's very important for him to get your messages, because for him that's the only way to communicate with the world now! So far chemio was so intensive that by the time he is getting out of anaplasia ( neutropenia) he has to go back to hospital for the next round of chemio. And in this way a long marathon happens! But anyway he went already to the Chinese restaurant once and a big supermarket to choose some games for his Game Cube (he was very happy to get back to normal life just for a while).

His immune system is still very fragile, so we have to avoid crowded places. But the good news is that his hair started to grow again! Now he looks as an ordinary kid with a very short hair cut. For some reason he doesn't like his blond hair (that comes from family), he wishes he had black hair.

On the 29th of July Eduardas went back to the hospital. After 9 rounds of chemio his immune system weakened, anaplasia (neutropenia) started and his temperature rose up to 38 degrease C. So he had to go back to the hospital, but luckily there was no infection found in his blood, but as a rule he was prescribed Fortum (antibiotic). He lost his appetite again. Now he is still in hospital, till his blood counts will come up. On the 8th of August the 10th chemio is scheduled. Since the 24th of July Eduardas gets injections of Granocyte 34 every afternoon, which makes bone marrow work harder, in order to come out of anaplasia (neutropenia) as soon as possible. He was transferred with red blood cells and platelets too. It's been long since he needed transferring (last one was in the middle of May).

On the 4th of August anaplasia has finished and he was let to get go out of hospital. Next round of chemio is scheduled from Monday (the 8th of August).

After 8 rounds of chemio!
On the 11th of July bone marrow biopsy was made, which showed that bone marrow is CLEAN!!!
But there are still some bad cells left in other places on the bones.
Doctors decided to make 2 more additional rounds of chemio, named CADO ( Cyclophosphamide, Adriamycine, Vincristine) with a break of 3 weeks.
No initial tumor was found.
What will the next step be, we will find out after these 2 rounds of chemio. If the response to the chemio will be as it should be, then stem cell transplantation will follow.
I have to say that Eduardas reaction to chemio is very mild (he does not vomit of something similar).
Zophren is very effective for him; he is eating, playing and meeting other children, his sister in hospital during chemio.

His life quality is quite well; of course he misses swimming and traveling.
He feels absolutely healthy and happy, just quite fed up with going to the hospital.

The first stage of treatment, 8 courses of chemotherapy, has finished. Eduardas again has anaplasia. After 7-10 days, depending on blood, thorough analysis will be made, which will determine further treatment.
According to the protocol an implantation of his own stem cells will be made. His mood is good and he feels well, he says that he has already recovered. At last mother has found a psychologist, who will start working with Eduardas. All in all, he leads a normal life, just he can't travel and dive as he was used to.

According to plan today the 8th course of chemotherapy should have been made, but his blood tests show that immune system has not recovered yet, so the doctors decided that now the situation is not critical anymore and they can wait and not force with the 8th course until his blood will recover, in this way less damage will be made to his body. That is we are living at home now and in all the way possible e try to protect ourselves from infection and wait for better blood results.

We planned to go to Marineland yesterday, but blood tests showed that the blood has worsened and the immune system is gone again. That is nothing special, after 7 courses of chemotherapy it was expected, but we had hoped that would happen bit latter. That’s why today in the evening we went to the beach of Marseilles and let fireworks there. Both Eduardas and Alexandra were very happy. We have decided that tomorrow we will go again to the beach to let the fireworks.

Today in the morning Eduardas has returned from hospital. 7 courses of chemotherapy have already been made (vincristine, etoposide, cyclophosphamide). The last, the 8th course of chemotherapy is supposed to be on the 12-13 of June, of course only if blood is good.
Today Eduardas blood was almost as if he was a healthy child. Poly. Neutrophiles 1300 mm3, hemoglobine 9,4 g/100 ml, Plaquettes (plazma) 314 000 mm3.
On Wednesday we are planning to go the The Marineland, where there are shows of dolphins, killer whales and sea lions.

Today Eduradas immune system has got better to a non dangerous level, that’s way doctors immediately started the 7th course of chemotherapy.
In the whole Eduardas health is not bad. Blood plasma gets better, appetite rises, he started to gain some weight, but his knee and back hurt. Most likely this is because of long not walking. Now it is almost as if he should learn to walk all over again. He has to train his muscles.
This illness and its treatment changes a child psychologically, a child becomes nervous, uncontrolled, get angry and insulted fast, to other people he complains that he has chaged, that it is hard for him.
Unfortunately, but know we only can wait for a positive result, when the illness will go away, all the collateral factors should go away as well.

Hurray! He was let out to go home for a few days. And in Lithuania lilacs have come into bloom. Again Hurray! Everywhere, though short, but a celebration. On Tuesday (2005.05.31) the seventh course of chemotherapy should be done ( C). During the chemotherapy, according to protocol vincristine 1,5 mg/m, etoposide 2x175 mg/m and cyclosphamide 2x1050 mg/m should be given. This course will last for two days, then hidratation. This kind of dosage is strong. Later there will be the eighth course ( B) which is the strongest one.
After than, again several tests. We hope, that after the eighth course there will be no cancer cells in bone marrows.

He has recovered from chickenpox, but his blood tests aren‘t good. Blood was transfused to him. As soon as the tests will get better and there will be no danger of infection, he will be let out of hospital to go home. After all at home mood is better and health recovers faster. Eduardas cannot sit at one place, he is running around the ward, but further he cannot go due to the danger of infection.

On the 9th of March, 2005 neuroblastoma was diagnosed.
It was more than a shock for everyone, to recover from the shock may only be possible after the recovery from neurblastoma and if no remission will occur in years to come.

The diagnose was ruthless, but clear – neuroblastoma IV highest risk factor. Metastasis in all bones, other organs unharmed. Cancer cells of high aggressiveness.
Eduardas’s doctor is Jean-Louis Bernard, Hospital De La Timone, Marseille, France.
Eduardas was assigned to an aggressive treatment protocol.
First stage is 8 courses of chemotherapy, made every 10 days.

The main drug is vincristine, but this is not the only one, carboplatine, ciplatine and others are used as well.
After first four treatment courses cancer cell have still been found.
At the present moment 6 courses have been made, but Eduardas got chickenpox (varicella), because immune system has weakened from the chemotherapy, so the 7th course will be delayed.

According to the treatment protocol an operation should be made after the 8th course of chemotherapy, but a tumour has not been found in Eduardas, as it is known, this happens very seldom. So there is nothing to operate.

After 8 courses of chemotherapy an implantation of his own stem cells, after that for another 6 months chemical drugs will be used orally.

We hope that all these treatment methods will give positive results and this terrible illness will retreat.
