Hey Alex,
You are just one year younger than my daughter Kathryn. She turned 19 Feb. 5th 2010. She was diagnosed with a GBM in April 2010. She was also diagonosed with a medulloblastoma in 1999. She is doing well and I heard you are too. You have 8 years since your diagnosis and that's great. I'm a school teacher and there should be no stopping you from working in the school system too. I wish you the very best.

Happy Belated Birthday Alex! It's been quite awhile....going through my older guestbook entries I found a few CB kids I wanted to check on! Sending prayers that the scans are scarring..I know how nerve wracking this can be...David was first dx in 2003 and again in 2004...so far his scans have been clear since the relapse...it never changes though..that feeling you get before the scans..he's getting them every 6 months now, so June 09 is his next. Hang in there!

Alex,
Happy Birthday!

I'm glad the scan results came back as no tumor growth. It is very frustrating waiting for the radiologist to intrepret the MRI results.

My nephew is now 6 years old and has been batteling his GBM for almost 2 1/2 years. I understand some of the long and winding road you have been traveling.

I am very proud of you and pray for your family.

Hi, Alex:

This is Cameron. I have brain cancer too, Anaplastic Astrocytoma, and I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I just wanted to let you know that you have a brother here in Minnesota and I hope we get to meet someday.

I'm starting a magazine called Brain Candy, that will be written by and for kids living with brain cancer. Would you like to share your story for the magazine? Let me know. Let me know any other ideas you have that you think kids would like to see in a magazine.

I'm going to take a nap now, so I'll talk to you later.

Peace out,

Cameron

I found your website from the PBT Yahoo group. It is good to hear of a GBM patient doing so well for so long. My 15 year old daughter was dx with GBM last July. She has had two total resections (one after a recurrence) and has now had two clear MRIs. Your son gives us hope. It is good to read about him.

Lorraine, I know what you mean, when James was in remission we had so much stress with school, side effects, appointments, medication, worry - and people would say thank goodness it's all over .... things are never really the same I guess. Hi Lorraine,

I hope you are OK, you've had such a lot of stress for a long time you are bound to feel it. Is Alex singing in end of term concerts? I was so jealous of the work experience, James should have been doing it too. We went to a memorial service today, and on Friday we are going back to see his ward before it shuts - first time back in the hospital without James, I'm not sure how that will feel. I hope you are feeling better and Alex is still doing well.

So very happy about Alex's clear scans!! And you are right....these kids can't be on chemo forever, and GBM is so aggressive. Dave was on temador for a year when his tumor came back....now it's been 2 years clear since the second surgery and his new protocol....Dave has decided he will stop chemo in September.....he just wants a break and understands there are no gaurantees....but he will be 14 in October and wants to just be 'normal' for a change....so we totally understand where you are coming from and as a parent, how difficult these decisions are.....moment by moment. But their bodies need a rest. If anything, while theya re doing so well, they need a chance to build back their immunity levels....thinking of you and praying for Alex!!!

I have cardiomyopathy (heart failure) and am 29 years old, I have a 6 year old and a 7 month old, both boys named Jordan and Joshua. I wanted to share a bible verse that I always think about if I am in the hospital or just scared.. Its Joshua 1:9"Be strong and courageous, do not be terrified for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." Always remember how much Jesus loves you, hes right by your side. Best of luck to you Alex. You are an inspiration to so many.

Hi Lorraine, Alex and family,
Have just read your journal and you are a real inspiration. My husband Joe (who's 48 ) has just been diagnosed with GBMIV and he is also suffering from seizures so seeing how well you have coped has been a big help. Also, he never used to eat vegatables either, but now that I have shown him how important it is and that you are doing it, he has promised to eat his spinach and brocolli ever day along with all the other healthy food which will help to make him better. I hope you had a lovely easter and that all continues to go well with your treatment.
Take care
Sue & Joe
